Bones and Spock had decided that at the end of their second five year mission that it was time to settle down and raise a family. They both agreed that a starship was no place to raise a baby, so they decided to live on vulcan and start their future together.
They figured now would also be the perfect time to have their bonding ceremony, they both wanted to have it done on vulcan and they even had an meeting with t'pau to make sure they were psi compatible and would have a strong marital bond and that bones would be able to share a parental bond with their children. Now they are in their third month on Vulcan, they've got their house mostly furnished and have almost settled in to this new part of their life together.
They had gone to Spocks parents house yesterday for dinner and they discussed normal things like work, interesting research papers they've read recently, and other polite conversation topics. And near the end of dinner bones brought up a conversation he had had with Amanda a few years ago on the Enterprise when she and Ambassador Sarek were aboard for transport to a conference. "So this teddy bear you mentioned Amanda it was his pet?" Bones inquired "actually I-Chaya was my pet. But he did indeed endup protecting both of my sons, and becoming quite attached to Spock." Leonard was happy to learn that his husband was more human then he let on but he was still a bit shocked that Vulcans even had pets. "T'hy'la as I have said before I sehlat is more akin to a teran grizzly bear with 6 inch fangs" bones still could understand how that could be considered a pet. Well now back at their home Spock thought brekfast would be the perfect time to bring up last night's conversation.
"Leonard I think it would be in our best interest to get a sehlat this week since we plan to start actively attempting to make a child together" he said his voice just dripping with logic.
Leonard of course let out a bit of a laugh, "Spock darlin i don't know how I feel about us having a giant bear with teeth the size of my forearm living in our house and being around our vulnerable baby."
Spock tried to convince his mate by making the logical argument that "ashayam while I understand your hesitancy to cohabitating with such a large animal I have assured you in the past that sehlats have been properly domesticated by Vulcans so you need not be frightened. Our offspring will benefit from the companionship, lessons, and skills provided by having a pet sehlat."
Bones thought about what is partner said knowing that Spock rarely did things without thinking them through and throughly analyzing the logic of said decision. Damit the hobgobin was rubbing off on him. "You make a logical argument, how about we go to the Vulcan equivalent of a sehlat shelter and I can get more comfortable around them?" Spock was pleased with his mates compromise and agreed. After they put their dishes in their dishwasher Leonard lifted his index and middle fingers for a vulcan kiss which Spock happily returned. Bones was kinda sad that now that they spent most of their time on vulcan he would have to keep to touch Spock in public to a minimum especially since he didn't not want to be arrested for whatever the vulcan equivalent to public indecency or lewd acts in public was.
Sensing this through the bond Spock assured his lover that he would make sure that he would insure that his human mate would not commit a cultural offense. Spock was trying to normalize his communicating with Leonard telepathically to lessen the possibility of something like that happening and to make sure Leonard could be capable of using the bond to comunicate faith their future children and himself in times of need.
