After he had calmed down,Tony wondered why had Valentina stopped him from leaving? Why couldn't she just let him go? After all,he wasn't able to be with Maria this way. She was gone and he wanted to be with her. But for some reason Valentina had not let him leave to go do something so he would be with Maria again. He wondered why. He looks at Valentina and asked,"Why didn't you let me go out to be with her again?" Valentina just sighed before answering the confused grief stricken boy.
She said,"Tony,I did what I had to do to keep you safe. What I told you was not true. Anita had told me to say it after what the Jets had done to her. Maria is safe and alive. I could not let you leave. I had to save your life." Tony was in disbelief at what he was hearing. Maria was alive? She couldn't be because of Chino. It was a lie? What had the Jets done to Anita that would make her lie? He was grateful that Valentina had told him that what she had told him earlier was told to her to tell him after something the Jets had done to Anita. He was angry and he didn't even know what they did to Anita before she told Valentina to tell him that lie.
He said,"Thank you for telling me that it was a lie. That the love of my life is actually alive and okay. What did the Jets do to Anita before she told you to tell me that lie?" Valentina said,"You don't want to know that. And I am happy to have been able to tell you that Maria was actually alive." Tony said,"Valentina,you saved my life. Thank you." Valentina said,"You're welcome. I can't tell you how grateful I am that I was able to calm you,that I saved your life."
