Hello everyone! This is Yua's first time creating fanfiction. And this one is entirely by Hu Tao and Yanfei from Genshin Impact. Although I do plan on creating White Rose fanfiction as well, I will attempt to do my best in terms of correctly naming everything from the region and such. This is purely fiction, so it is not officially canon or endorsed. Every character is 18 or older. This first chapter will be short for now, and then I will attempt to increase the pages more as the chapters roll out. I will try to keep a consistent stream of chapters when life doesn't hit me first. Now, let me stop rambling and start the story already.

Chapter 1:

In the land of Teyvat, Liyue

—-

She woke up again to the sound of her alarm clock. Yanfei got up and looked at her clothes for the day. The same free-looking clothing that she always wore. The same shorts and hat with all the emblems and doohickeys symbolizing her legal experience. She was a lawyer, and a tired one at that.

Every day, there seemed to be the same robbery, bribery, and other illegal actions. Some even are just repeats from multiple scoundrel kids just stealing food. Although she understands, food has become more expensive. The mora currency has increased, so more items are much higher than before. Still, it does not mean to disobey the law. She knew that more than anyone.

Yanfei got up and checked her clock; around 9:30 am was her basic time to get up, brush teeth, bathe, and eat breakfast before heading to work. Hopefully, today was something different. Something completely peculiar than the same redeunant cases. But usually, it never happens.

Hu Tao, the 77th Director of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor and Liyue's mischevious "brat," wakes up at 7 a.m. Sharply everytime. She gets up and observes herself in the mirror with the same babyface everyone knows her for. Although not for the right reasons.

Let's just say she may or may not scare kids unintentionally with pranks or ghosts. At every lantern rite event, Hu Tao tends to make the best impression of what death looks like with blanket ghosts, tomato sauce-filled head dummies, and just overall jumpscaring unsuspecting people as they walk around. She made a reputation as the "playful" funeral director. It does not help that she also pranks anyone who does come to her parlor. After endorser Zhongli intervened and had her stop her antics, Hu Tao toned it down.

Hu Tao grabbed her clothing, her hat, and her dress, ready to start the day. She had a ghost spirit make a toast with jam and ran out with coffee in hand. Looking around at the lovely view of Liyue's beautiful scenery. Liyue was known for its culture and adepti impact. The Jade Chamber, flying and hovering over the town as a symbol of business and righteousness. Of course, Liyue Qixing monitors all aspects and affairs of said chamber with pride and diligence. The chamber itself is coated with lovely brick and wood, polished to perfection. It has roofs of inspiring Liyue culture providing shade. It is a natural landmark, and Hu Tao can't deny that it looks beautiful.

Liyue truly shines when it has its cultural festivals, such as the Lantern Rite festival. It honors fallen warriors up to a path of guidance for home. Every week, once a year. This was Hu Tao's calling. She loved performing songs and stories to share with everyone. At that point, everyone takes her seriously. And she loved that. She wished it had happened more, though.

Hu Tao walked by the shop and grabbed some flowers for her next job. It was the burial of an old woman known as Madam Chen. She was well known for her bubbly personality. Hu Tao knew she had to make a proper and beautiful arrangement. She grabbed one of the rare glaze lilies for sale with a few pieces of Mora (expensive to her!), and she headed out with the flowers carefully placed in her side pocket.

Yanfei started taking her daily walk before heading to the Ministry of Civil Affairs. As a lawyer herself, she deals with any court cases that are provided before acceptance into a court. Yanfei had studied for years to make a well-paying job and help others with justice, just for the cases to be mostly redundant. There was not much extreme, which, to her, sounds like a bad thing to say. Liyue has proper security known as the Millelith, which handles arrests and other situations that can occur. (Basically, the police.).

She didn't mind it entirely; it just meant she could escape to go home early. However, she was also alone most of the time. She would watch the birds flock, take jogs, make food, and sometimes even eat out. However, there is no one to share it with. She felt empty. A feeling that hasn't been entirely filled in. Mind you, she has friends, but most are busy.

Captain Beidou of the Crux stays at the front end of the ship, observing the sea ahead of her. With her eyepatch, firm big chest, and her leadership, she is determined to slay any sea beasts that dare challenge her.

Beidou sits down and leans back, laughing with a smile. Another glorious day at sea. Although it's been quite some time since she last checked up on Yanfei, Yanfei and her met on a rare chance while Beidou was boarding the ship. Yanfei seemed to have free time, so they sat and chatted for a bit about their interests and such. Beidou realized Yanfei was well known as "Liyue's best lawyer" due to her excellent and outstanding work with civil cases. She knew she was talking to a big hotshot. Beidou herself was known as a fierce pirate capable of storming and plunging ships while taking down sea beasts. She felt great pride in it, and her fearless attitude is what got her notoriety. To some, it was admirable; to others, it was annoying.

However, she noticed that Yanfei seemed more or less dissatisfied. More of a bored, tired look. She explained to Beidou that it was nothing and that some cases were just simpler than others. But Beidou knew what it was. She didn't push forward with it and offered to see Yanfei again once she came back to the dock. Yanfei agreed.

After coming back and forth, they both snuck in between free graces of time to sit down, eat, have tea, and attend other social events. Yanfei seemed to really be happy with it, talking about her dreams of one day hitting Mondestant and living there. She really seemed to enjoy its atmosphere. Beidou just wishes to die as a legend and have a family she can be proud of that will carry her legacy. That was always her goal, but she too feels lonely as well. Although talking with Yanfei helps a lot, She felt like Yanfei also needed that mutual feeling as well.

Beidou looks at the sea and measures with a sundial; she may be able to make it by dawn. She can ask Yanfei for another hangout then. That was perfectly fine with her.

Yanfei sat down at the bench near the alleyway towards the shopping district of Liyue Market. She admired the birds flying near her. They perched on bread crumbs, then started to fly away. She enjoyed simple things like that. It was one of the reasons for her affinity with nature; it was simple, and usually something happened. Something eventful. Something to fill her excitement up:
She turned around and noticed a young woman who's shorter than her by a few inches. a shiny black hat with flower decor and gym-like shorts with a jacket on. She wore matching black jewelry to go along with the whole outfit. The woman looked gorgeous, however. She had a baby face that was pretty with a slight mischievous smile. A smile that would incite trouble and chaos. She realized there was a smile, and it was towards her.

Hu Tao: "So, admiring me, are we?". Hu Tao stood at the wall, looking.

Yanfei: "Uh no, I was just observing some of the birds that are around Liyue." Yanfei looked at her hands, showing them a fidget slightly. For someone who is calm during confrontations with dissatisfied customers, she was shaking a bit at the thought of being caught looking at another person with awe.

Hu Tao: "Likely story~ Hehe. Mind if I sit here?" Hu Tao asked nicely before taking a seat anyway.
Yanfei: "Sure, now that you're sitting.".

They both sat and watched the birds once again fight over bread. But this is only the beginning.
