Chapter 3

His voice filled the air and his guitar rocked as he continued playing the song, all while floating above the crowd. Just in the lyrics Adam sang to Charlie and the rest of the patrons in the bar that night, he was having a good time. When he finished, he allowed the DJ to resume playing music, all while he put up a fire show for everyone, sending torrents of golden fire dancing up on the stone ceiling. People cheered and some even tossed random objects into the air so Adam would effortlessly incinerate them with a smirk.

Later, he was knocking back shots with a group by one of the bars on the first floor, everyone toasting him. He might've had another shot if Charlie hadn't shown up and swiped the glass from his hand.

Meanwhile, Vaggie watched from the third-floor railing, eyes fixed on Charlie, who seemed to be giving Adam a lecture about drinking too much, while Adam rolled his eyes with boredom before amusing himself by mimicking Charlie's gestures with his hand as she spoke – Adam was a very tall guy, and a few shots weren't going to faze him like Charlie thought they would. Then again, did Adam even build up any tolerance for it since his time in Hell?

People around them laughed until Lucifer stepped in to pull Charlie away.

"Your girlfriend is funny," Crash, the light blue-haired fallen exorcist, remarked with a smirk as she approached Vaggie. "Acting like she actually cares for Bossman."

"Because she does care," Vaggie show back coldly, prompting a blink from Crash. "Unlike that selfish asshole you all blindly follow, Charlie has a good heart and cares too much for everyone. Even though they don't deserve it."

Crash hummed thoughtfully. "I see you're still hella judgy, huh?"

"I'm not judgy," Vaggie muttered with annoyance, shifting her gaze back to Lucifer and Charlie conversing along the opposite side of the room. Charlie was peeking over her dad's shoulder to occasionally keep an eye on Adam who was entertaining some girls with his magical golden axe guitar while he sat on the bar counter. "What do you want, anyways?"

"Well, I just thought I should say hi, since we haven't talked in so long."

"Geez, I wonder why," Vaggie said dryly.

"I mean, we're basically on the same side now and-"

Vaggie glanced at her as if she had gone crazy. "Um, no we're not. You literally tried killing me and my friends weeks ago."

"Well, yeah, your friends were the enemy, and you were a traitor to Heaven."

"I didn't betray Heaven. I just decided not to kill a child."

"We had a job to do, and you went against orders."

Vaggie looked away with annoyance, finished with the conversation with her 'sister' and noticed Charlie walking over to Angel and Husk where they stood by the second bar, opposite to where Adam was, Lucifer nowhere in sight.

Crash sighed. "Well, I guess I'll let you be," she remarked after an awkward silence. "Oh, by the way, you should probably tell your girlfriend not to worry about Bossman. After all, he has us to watch his back."

Vaggie glanced at her with a frown.

"And yeah, he may act like he doesn't care, but that just shows you don't know him at all." Crash grunted out before she walked off, leaving Vaggie gazing at her quietly.

She noticed a couple of her other 'sisters' eyeing her wearily before she pulled away and descended the stairs to join Charlie, sitting on a stool. Angel had bought a drink for himself and Husk and the two quietly sipped them while gazing at Charlie.

"Where's your dad?" Vaggie asked her.

"He went to the Heaven Embassy to request a meeting about Adam," Charlie said before she sighed as she observed Adam downing a fourth shot before tossing it into the air and incinerating it "I just don't get it. He's acting like… this is the best thing that's ever happened to him. Just look at him! You'd think he'd be losing his mind, being away from home and all, especially with enemies all around. But nope! He's just drinking with them like there's no tomorrow." She then buried her face in her hands out of sheer frustration.

"It's just… it's not adding up…" she muttered.

"What I don't get is how he and his gang are still alive," Angel pointed out.

"And I've only seen five of those angels with him," Husk said as he observed how all five were in different positions, either keeping watch on Adam or talking to one another. "I know we've taken out way more than that."

Vaggie placed a comforting hand on Charlie's arm. "Hey, maybe we should go home. We've still got that movie waiting for us back home, remember?"

Charlie didn't respond right away. She had a lot in her mind right now, especially as she didn't know how to feel about Adam actually being alive and in Hell.

A part of her had some resentment for his attempt on her life and for killing Sir Pentious. But, at the same time, she believed in forgiveness and was worried for Adam. Hell was a dangerous place, especially for a fallen angel that led the massacre of many of their people for years.

"Um… Charlie…" she heard Angel say with a tone that sounded completely defensive.

She immediately sat up with confusion before noticing Adam walking over to her, clutching his stomach, his shoulders hunched, and his wings curled protectively around him.

"Hey, buttercup…" Adam said with a pained voice. Instead of mischief glowing in his golden eyes, they were clouded with distress. "I… something's wrong and… I want to go home…" He trembled, his gaze darting around anxiously. Nearby, a group of sinners who had accompanied Adam watched silently, their faces devoid of expressions.

Charlie's heart twisted at the sight of Adam's distress. She couldn't help but feel moved, and some sort of satisfaction that she was right, that he had been acting like everything was fine earlier. She rose from her seat, concern etched on her features as she placed a gentle hand on one of his wings. "I told you drinking all that alcohol wasn't good for you," she said softly, hoping that no one had spiked his drink as well. "Let's get you out of here, okay?"

Adam's expression twisted with shame as he looked down, nodding silently. He hunched into himself even more, his eyes avoiding Charlie's gaze.

Then, unexpectedly, he started to giggle before it turned into a loud laughter. Confusion flashed across Charlie's face.

"Fucking…Fucking got ya, you dumb bitch!" Adam laughed as he threw his head back, just as the other sinners joined in with their own cackles. He glanced down at her with a wicked grin, his golden eyes sparkling with amusement. "Damn, are you always this damn gullible? You should have seen your face! You looked like a dumbass!" He turned to the others who were still laughing. "You saw how stupid she looked, right?"

Charlie recoiled, her hand falling away from him as she stared at him in disbelief.

Vaggie quickly stepped between her and Adam, glaring daggers up at him.

"Awww, did I hurt your feeeelings?" Adam's voice dripped with sarcasm as he raised his eyebrows and pursed his lips in a caricature of concern.

"You're a fucking dick," Angel retorted out at Adam.

"Not just a dick, but the greatest of them all and don't ya ever forget it, sweetheart." Adam winked at Angel playfully.

Angel and Husk now glared at him before Adam just walked off without a care along with the group of sinners who snickered at Charlie and her friends, who later glanced over to Charlie with concerned looks.

"You okay, Charlie?" Vaggie asked her softly as Charlie's cheeks were flushed with embarrassment and sadness, her eyes on the ground as she clutched her own arms tightly. She was avoiding making eye contact with everyone before she let out a heavy sigh.

"Let's just go home," she murmured quietly.

Hello by Martin Solveig & Dragonette

Just as Charlie and her friends left the bar, the place was filled with an upbeat sound, and many people joined on the dance floor. The group surrounding Adam paused, their eyes lighting up as the rhythm took hold of them. Without hesitation, they began to move, their bodies swaying to the song with a playful energy.

Adam blinked; his attention drawn to the sound. It wasn't his usual style, but there was something undeniable catchy about pulsating beats. Before he knew it, one of the girls grabbed his hand, pulling him into the center of the dance floor.

Adam felt a flutter of nerves in his stomach as white lights began to flicker along with the rhythm. Sure, he loved to dance, but was used to only doing it with a couple of people behind closed doors or in front of a small crowd on stage.

He let out a nervous smile, attempting to politely decline as he moved away from the sinner, but just as the opening notes began, two other girls nearby playfully held onto his arms, urging him to mimic their movements.

Adam stood there, hesitant, looking up at his ladies who were observing him from the third floor with encouraging smiles. He slowly found himself nodding his head to the beat while he glanced down at the girls by him, especially when the electronic beat was fused with other sounds and other colorful lights flashed on them. Bit by bit, his body moved, his heart pounding slightly, taking hesitant steps from side to side.

Then, when the song reached its crescendo, a wave of excitement washed among the crowd, making them all move more vibrantly. Adam wasn't sure if it was the effects of the drugs or alcohol, but he couldn't help but smile as excitement rushed through him before surrendering himself to the music, allowing himself to be swept up in the contagious enthusiasm. As he danced to the beat, moving his arms and body while keeping his wings by his sides, the ladies moved closer to him. The worries of dancing in public melted away - he was lost in the euphoria of the moment.

Three of his ladies were dancing now in the air above the crowd, moving side to side with their hands up high. While two, on watch duty, sat on the rails on the second floor next to one another.

"I think I'm definitely going to like it here," Wildhair said to Crash.

"And we have to make sure Bossman does too," Crash stated with a grin as the two watched Adam now jumping along with the crowd; they've never seen him dance close to so many people like that before and it made them glad he was.

Heaven may be a paradise for many, and Adam might have had some freedom, but he was held back from doing a lot due to the important role he had to fulfill as the first human in Heaven.

"I wonder if Lute was here, if he would've dragged her down by now," Wildhair pondered, which made Crash's smile morph into a sad one.

"Oh, he definitely would have," Crash said. "But she would have loved it too."

The two former angels end up smiling at one another before looking back down at the dance floor while the song continued and Adam just danced and danced till the rest of the night.

"Fuuuuuuuuuucckkkk…" Adam groaned as he threw a hand over his aching head after waking up on his bed, a mattress they had stolen days ago. His naked body was utterly cold, and he curled up on his side underneath his blanket and golden wings. He pulled a second pillow over his head to block the sunlight that was coming through from a broken window - he took note to somehow nailed it shut with something later that day.

He's suffered a couple hangovers already since his time in Hell, but this time, he felt as though his head was splitting into two and he felt utterly nauseous.

"Someone… anyone… I don't fucking care… get me my shit…" Adam whined pathetically.

Wildhair zoomed quickly to his side, offering him a joint, lighting it up for him so he could start smoking to relieve the pounding headache. She also handed him a water bottle.

"Not a great idea, Boss," Fury said as she landed next to Wildhair while Adam looked up with confusion before he had the chance to smoke the blunt. "I read online a few days ago that it's better to give yourself a break from all the smoking and drinking." She tossed him a bottle of pills, which he stared at with confusion – he's never taken one in his existence. "Take a couple of those, drink tons of water, and I'll have someone cook you something nutritious so you can feel better."

Adam sat up, the blanket slipping down to his lap, revealing bright gold scars on his chest where he had been stabbed to 'death' weeks ago, and a thin, black tail with a golden triangle tip currently wrapped around his lower waist – he wasn't used to having one and did his best to keep it close to his body just like he did with his wings. He looked between the pill bottle and his joint before he frowned at Fury. "Fury, why ya gotta be a buzzkill…?"

"Yeeeaaah, Fury, why you gotta be laaaame?" Wildhair playfully nudged Fury, who sighed in response.

"Someone has to be responsible here," Fury countered before looking at Adam. "Make sure you swallow them whole."

He struggled to open the bottle and eventually Fury did it for him, explaining there was a trick to it.

He took two pills and stared at them as he thought about the events from last night. He definitely didn't regret snorting that white powder and downing tons of alcohol. He had felt so great and had such an amazing time.

But what really made his day was performing that concert in front of all those sinners. Truth be told, he didn't think he was going to enjoy it as much, since, well, they were losers, but seeing how excited they got and cheered for him had really made him feel like an actual rock star.

Oh… he would kill to do it all over all again.

Suddenly, images of familiar faces crawled into his mind which made him quickly try to distract himself by plopping the pills into his mouth before taking a big gulp of water. Swallowing them felt very foreign to him and for a split second he thought he was choking but relaxed when they went down without much of a problem.

The group heard the front doors of the small building open. They had taken refuge in an old building right at the edge of the city, once filled with degenerates lost in a haze of drugs.

"Guess what, guys?!" Crash exclaimed loudly entering with excitement, a bag in hand, with Terminator following behind with a calm expression, causing Adam to wince in pain before laying back on his bed and buried his head in his pillow. "I got some tooth floss!"

The news made everyone in the room brighten up. And Adam had to admit, he was happy as well; he took pride in keeping up his hygiene. He had felt utterly disgusted when they hadn't had supplies to brush their teeth after their fourth day in Hell. Though, being unable to shower as often was also gross…

Crash flew over to the group. "Oh, and someone gave me this when I was leaving the store," she said, pulling out a red envelope from the bag.

Rebel, who had been resting on her own bed on the other side of the building, quickly joined them. Adam removed the pillow from his head with confusion when his golden eyes caught the sight of the envelope. Rebel opened it and read the letter inside. Meanwhile, Adam took a couple of puffs from his joint, much to Fury's disappointment.

"Someone named Vox is inviting the Boss to a meeting with him and the Vees later this evening, at the V Tower," Rebel stated. "They said they were impressed with his performance yesterday and have a proposition for him of a lifetime."

Adam furrowed his brow. "Who the fuck is Vox?"

Fury reached into her pocket and pulled out a smartphone she had stolen from someone in the streets. With a few taps, she pulled up a picture of the sinner with a face of a flat-screen television and showed it to Adam. "Based on my research earlier this week, he's an Overlord, the CEO of Voxtek Enterprise, an umbrella organization for all the media-related brands in Hell."

The moment Adam heard the word media, his interest piqued.

"And who're the Vees?" Wildhair asked curiously.

"A group made up of two other Overlords," Fury continued before retrieving an image with two other faces alongside Vox. "Valentino, the director and head of the porn studio, and Velvette, a fashion designer and social media influencer."

Adam took another hit of his joint before taking the letter from Terminator and scanning through the words himself.

"Hmmmm…" His mouth twisted to the side as he thought about what he should do. He wasn't going to lie, he was rather curious. "I think we should check it out," he eventually said.

"But what if it's a trap?" Fury asked him.

Adam chuckled before he stood up from his bed, the blanket falling from his naked form, his tail unfurled from around his waist, swaying gently from side to side. Quickly, the rest quickly glanced away out of respect, except for Terminator, who just watched casually.

"Then, I guess we'll just have to kill them," he smirked at them with glowing gold eyes, making the girls look at one another with amusement just as he took another puff of smoke.

Author'ers after notes

A quick description of adam's crew:

Rebel: Current leader of the girls, while Lute is away, she does her best to take a more leader sort of role, though she likes to jam a lot
Fury: The responsible one and likes to be on top of things with knowledge
Crash: The somewhat laidback one. Tends to think there's not much to worry about
Wildhair: Adam's number one yes man, hahaha, super fan and energetic
Terminator: The silent type, and sometimes somewhat 'robotic' with her interactions

Next chapter, Lucifer's meeting with peeps in Heaven, and Adam meeting the Vee's, both meetings not turning out as one side wanted to, hahaha, and some charlie being charlie hahaha

Gonna see a cute fun Adam next chap for sure and some possible friendship later
