It was over.
"It was finally over." Sonic was saying to himself as he lifted Caliburn and declared his victory. King Arthur has been finally defeated. This kingdom was finally free of King Arthur's tyranny. As he promised to Merlina.
But as Sonic turned, expecting to see the body of his fallen foe, he was surprised to see he was turning into nothing but smoke, just like one of the creatures from the underworld, leaving behind nothing but the scabbard of Excalibur.
Sonic just stared at the scabbard for a moment. Trying to make sense of what has just happened. Why did King Arthur just disappear like that? Where was the Excalibur if its scabbard was right? Were there more sacred swords that were as powerful as these were?
Sonic shook his head, being bothered by how this momentary thought had slowed him down, and went to pick up the scabbard of Excalibur. As he was about to pick it up, though, he was pushed back by a great force, finding himself flat on the ground without the scabbard.
"O the king slayer! The worst of the knights! How dare you even to touch the sacred scabbard let alone take it!" the voice of the unknown knight reverberated throughout Avalon.
Sonic let out a grunt, followed by a chuckle.
"And I was thinking I was done with you guys," said Sonic as he got up and stabilized himself. He finally was able to see the knight. The knight was a hawk with green feathers, adorned in a silver and green armor with brown boots.
"Hmph!" The knight grunted. "You were the one who beat Percival, weren't you, Knight of the Wind?"
"Hehe, I didn't know I was famous!" Sonic said with a chuckle as he scratched his nose with his left hand while holding Caliburn in his right hand, stabilizing himself towards it."
The unknown knight smirked. "Heh! At least a knight who is worth fighting and slaying, brace yourself!" he shouted and dashed towards Sonic.
"Be on your guard!" Caliburn warned Sonic. "That's Sir Lamorak. One of the most loyal knights of King Arthur and also one of the strongest. He is best known for slaying 30 knights in a fight. He is a fair knight."
"After what we just did, I think we can defeat anything, partner." Said Sonic with a smile as he charged towards Sir Lamorak.
Their swords started to slash each other. The metallic sound made by their swords resonated within the whole castle.
"Gotcha!' shouted Sonic as he thought he was unguarding his body, only to find himself watching Sir Lamorak jump over him and slash towards him, which Sonic was barely able to block.
"I told you!" shouted Caliburn at Sonic.
"It is just a small inconvenience" Sonic laughed it out as he slashed his sword back to Lamorak's swords.
"Tell me, Knight of the Wind." Sir Lamorak granted as his swords slashed at Sonic's. "How did you not let your pride get in the way?"
"Huh?" Sonic was confused.
"You were aware of all the titles you would get. You knew you would never accepted as a knight of honor. You were aware you would be seen as the lowliest of the knights. And yet for Merlina-" he slashed through the open spot of Sonic, only to be blocked by Sonic. "You had no hesitation in killing King Arthur."
"I saw someone in need-" said Sonic as he blocked Sir Lamorak's attack and finally found the open spot he was looking for, slashed through Lamorak, injuring him enough to stop him from fighting.
Sir Lamorak was on his knees. Too ashamed to look into the face of Sonic, he was staring at the ground. Sonic was standing right in front of him.
"I saw someone in need, so I helped her. I don't care if this world puts all the worst titles on me, as long as I do the right thing, I don't care what the world thinks of me. That's my way of doing things." Reaching his hand to the fallen knight.
Lamorak stared at the hand for a moment, as if, for a moment, he did consider taking the hand of this new knight he had met, to learn his way of leaving, to learn how his pride won't get in the way of doing the right thing…
But it only took a moment for him to remember why he had isolated himself from the Knights of the Round Table and consequently pushed Sonic's hand away and got onto his feet.
"Hmph!" Grunted Sir Lamorak. "It only takes one moment for your ideals to be shattered." He stated bluntly.
Sonic only stared at him with confusion.
"One dirty deal is enough for you to completely shatter your ideals. Especially when they are done by those closest to you." Said Lamorak with a blank expression. But as he was preparing himself to go away, simple words made him freeze.
"Heh, even in the case of such an event happening, I will still follow my own way." Said Sonic with a chuckle.
As if these simple words made something click in him, he looked directly into Sonic's eyes, which made Sonic stiffen himself.
"When King Arthur tried to pull out Caliburn but wasn't able to, he demanded Percival to bring Sir Galahad's sword." Sir Lamorak paused for a moment, surmising that Caliburn would explain all of the information dump he just did to Sonic, which he was right about.
"Sir Galahad was the chosen knight who used himself to seal the power of the Holy Grail. Like me, his sword was also stuck in a stone, waiting for him." Caliburn explained to Sonic, whose usual smirky expression had been replaced with confusion, just staring at Caliburn.
"His sword is the strongest out of all the sacred swords, ignoring Excalibur of course." continued Caliburn.
"Percival was with Sir Galahad when he sealed the Holy Grail's power." Interrupted Sir Lamorak with somewhat of a sad expression on his face. "So she was the one who had the possession of the sword. King Arthur and all of us, Knights of the Round Table, were aware of this and ok with it since we knew they were closer to each other than any of us ever could have been…" as he said these words, Sonic noticed, a small smile formed on his beak. But that smile was short-lived as Lamorak kept on talking, it disappeared.
"But after gaining the power of the scabbard…" Sonic looked at the scabbard, which was now in his possession." "He longed for any type of power he could find."
"That wasn't hard to see." Sonic murmured to himself.
"The last straw for him was when he couldn't pull out Caliburn. Not being able to gain his power made him furious, and eventually led him to demand Percival to bring Sir Galahad's sword to him. Although she didn't want to, she had to. But it was stolen from her…"
Sir Lamorak stopped for a moment as if trying to swallow something in his throat. Sonic was patiently listening to Sir Lamorak, embarrassed to admit that he was curious to hear what he was about to say.
"… And it was found within my possessions by Gawain, so the blame was on me-"
"But you weren't the one who actually stole it." Sonic guessed. Sir Lamorak nodded.
"I explained myself to King Arthur and other knights and eventually thanks to Sir Lancelot and Percival, I could prove my innocence to the most."
"To the most?" questioned Caliburn.
"Gawain wasn't content with this decision at all. He believed that the decision was based on the devil's proof, which was risking the king and the Round Table. It didn't help the fact that despite the sword being in the possession of King Arthur, Merlina was able to steal the sword."
Sonic couldn't do anything but just the stare at the knight with wide open eyes at the disturbance of this revelation.
"Hah! Not expected at all, right? Neither did we. Until I was able to find that Merlina had stolen the sword, it was unknown to us who had stolen the sword. Knowing my ability to snitch anything from the enemy when needed, and the previous situation I had, he went out of his way to accuse me personally, knowing that the Round Table wouldn't listen to such allegations…" Lamorak winced his face. "I was forced to fight a knight of Round Table with no armor when it was completely dark. We fought for hours and I barely could beat him with great injuries. Also preventing me from reuniting back with the Round Table."
Lamorak took a quick breath and continued.
"So just don't tell me how there is no way you would change your ways even if you went through such things while I had the pleasure of experiencing them first hand and I can assure you that you won't be the same ever again!" shouted Sir Lamorak at the last past with great furry in his voice
Sonic just stared at Sir Lamorak for a moment, then with a smile he said
"And which knight had let King Arthur know the truth about Merlina?
"Hmm?"
"You were, right? Not to mention how you attacked me after killing King Arthur. So you were still loyal to the king despite all the things that happened to you."
"King Arthur has nothing to do with this!" Shouted Sir Lamorak. Sonic continued.
"So loyalty to the King is still your way of doing things. You haven't changed. You're still doing things your own way."
"For me, my only Master is the wind and I will always go with it. And I won't ever let the wind blow upon me to make me fall, nor will I stop the wind from blowing. I will run on my own path and wait for the changes the wind will bring until the path that is life ends." said Sonic with great enthusiasm and started to run to the Camelot Castle to meet with Merlina, leaving Sir Lamorak alone with his thoughts in (place name)
"You're something else…" signed Caliburn.
"Hehe! He had somewhat of a familiar face and I didn't want him to go before me!" chuckled Sonic. He was seemingly getting more used to these Knights of the Round Table. Though one thought was bothering him.
"So Merlina had a sacred sword with her…" Sonic thought to himself, wondering why she never mentioned that sword to him…
With Sir Lamorak's swords and the scabbard, Sonic ran to the Camilot castle to meet with Merlina.
