Chapter 1
Thirst for Glory
Scorpius Xenophilius Malfoy
Scorpius Malfoy was standing atop the tower of astronomy watching the group of people playing in snow. One red haired girl in particular had his undivided attention. The girl also being his step sister.
The one who was now being held by another blond haired guy trying to shower her beautiful red hair with snow. While she laughed.
Scorpius's blood was boiling.
One might have taken that as brotherly concern But Scorpius's line of thought might have scandalised them.
It would all have been fine. Scorpius could have been with her in his arms. They could have been enjoying the first snow of the season, sharing kisses. He would have taken her in his embrace and kept her warm. He could have been the object of envy of the entire school. If only...
That's when she looked up. All his senses zoomed on her. Her beautiful green eyes sparkling with mirth. Her subtle red hair stained with snowflakes. She was so beautiful. She waved at him.
He didn't wave back.
He turned around and left.
...
Professor Raisancoat
The potions professor was running. He tried to do it as subtly as he can. But he couldn't help it. If he can't hide his stash, the Aurors are gonna arrest him. They had gotten an anonymous tip that the Hogwarts students have been supplied with muggle drugs.
Few of the students were already being questioned discreetly. Most of them being harmless as they wouldn't know it was him. He wasn't worried at all. That was until he heard one of the students had mentioned something about the Potions cabinet. He didn't stop to listen what else. He ran to his lab.
He had formed a false cabinet for keeping ingredients for the students. Behind it was a latch, which will opened up to a real cabinet full of the drugs. He didn't know how any one had know about it, as the latch has been so discreetly placed at the bottom corner, that it looked like a splinter of wood stuck from the door of the cabinet.
Who in their stupid mind would try to dislodge such a sharp object? He wondered.
He reached his lab. There were several filled cauldrons kept overnight by the NEWT students.
He passed by the benches and straight towards the cabinet. Opened it and jiggled the little latch at the bottom of the cabinet three times. The cabinet gave out and the real cabinet showed it self. He quickly destroyed and vanished the evidence. It had been more than thousands of galleons worth of Stash. His heart burned with such a huge loss, yet keeping out of Azkaban was much more important.
'The stash can be replaced but the freedom can't.' He told himself.
He laid the false cabinet upon the real one just in time. As there was the headmistress and a Auror beside her at the door to the potions lab. It was a good thing that his face was hidden behind the cabinet door when he had heard the headmistress's voice call him to him. His heart stopped but he had gotten a few seconds to school his features and put on a smile. He grabbed the first bottle his hand landed on.
He stepped back and faced the pair, the bottle held like a sword in his hand.
"Headmistress?" He asked as he nodded towards the Auror.
"Professor Raisancoat, this is Auror Rodriguez. There had been a disturbing turn of events come into light." She was about to elaborate when the Auror cleared his throat.
"If you please madam, we would like to investigate before enlightening a possible suspect."
"It's better not to throw around accusations without proof Auror."
"That you are right, but tell me why would a professor be in a potions lab at such a late hour. Isn't it suspicious."
Headmistress looked at the professor questioningly.
He found his voice at last and crossed towards one of the cauldrons.
"Oh I needed to add a pinch of AshwaGandha to this potion. Tomorrow the students are gonna try on their potions. I have to keep an eye on in all night, for them to brew perfectly. Safety of the students comes first after all." He told the pair with his cheerful voice he has always dawned on as his cover for being a trustworthy old professor.
He uncorked the vial and dumped a small content on his palm. He sprinkled in with expertise on the orange liquid and started stirring it. It was turning into a darker shade now.
When he looked up he saw the Auror examining the open cabinet. Tapping on the wall to see if it will give.
He reached out to the little wooden latch at the bottom of the cabinet and did a little manevour.
And just like that the cabinet gave in to another set of empty shelves.
The professor put on a look of shock on his face.
"What is that? I never knew there had been another shelf there. How did you find it?"
"A student had confessed that he found a lot of drugs here and he had supplied it ahead and that it was a tidbit of information given to him by a letter."
"In my potions lab? Impossible! Surely the boy is misinformed."
The Auror turned to the headmistress. "Madam I would have to bring in a muggleborn drug expert to examine any leftover evidence tomorrow. Until it is to be kept closed and everyone out of this room.
The Auror said the last part pointedly towards the potions professor.
"Ofcourse." The Headmistress told the Auror as she turned to him, "Come along Mr. Raisancoat I will help your levitate the cauldrons to theory Potions room."
"Let me help." The Auror said as he looked at the him pointedly and levitated the cauldron in front of the professor, as he stepped out of the room. The headmistress following behind with another Cauldron levitating infront of her.
The potion professor was so befuddled that he levitated another cauldron and followed them.
When all the cauldrons has been situated to another potions lab, the potions professor watched the Auror lock the lab with magic with his magical signature. Worst of all he didn't even know what potion he had put the Ashwagandha in.
He might have just watched his doom into play.
...
Lily Luna Potter
It was advanced potions. Lily being a Ravenclaw was exceptional with it. She was so extraordinary at the subject that she had already passed her OWLS level potions last year and now was attending NEWT level potions. Her family and teachers has pegged her to be Potions Master in next two years.
This afternoon she was standing with Scorpius. They have been paired up for the extra credit potion for a month now. They were allowed to choose any advance level potion that could be brewed in a month. They have researched and researched for a worthy candidate to be their potion. Both of them being competitive and excellent at potions, couldn't just choose any potion.
After all a Ravenclaw and a Slytherin together are a formidable team and they had an image to maintain.
After days and days of research they had finally found the potion.
It was an extremely rare and ancient potion. Just as hard to prepare. Yet they had their ways to get their hands on the right instructions. After all they had full access to Malfoy, Potter and Black libraries. They had searched during the Christmas through all of them.
The potion was used in the olden days by traditional Wizarding families. They would give it to a couple who wish to join their houses or been chosen by the elders to merge their houses. Since pure blood families could rarely have more than one child, they used the potion to see how much of the fertility rate did the couple have together. Not only that, Lily and Scorpius had taken it a step further, they had managed to get a glimpse of how the child will look like and watch him grow in minutes until his natural death. Then the memories of their child could be shown in the pensive to the class.
It was an excellent piece of magic. It had fallen out of practice and procedure and to create it had been all but forgotten.
People might have thought of it to be awkward for them to do this, but they had taken it as a challenge.
Glory is what they had been after.
One by one, every one had shown their talents at potions. None of them had been impressive enough for Scorpius and Lily. Then time had come for them to show their innovation.
"Mr. Malfoy, Miss. Potter? You ready." Professor Raisancoat said.
Scorpius and Lily looked at one another. They explained their project to the class, each sharing the details at appropriate times. When they were done, they turned to one another.
Violet coloured viles in each of their hands. They clinked the glasses and drank the potion in one go.
They held hands and said the incantation. Air surrounding them started glowing.
Movements later both of them fainted.
...
"Miss potter. You are pregnant."
Lily looked at the Mediwitch with her mouth open.
"What? That's impossible. It's been ... I mean... I think you are mistaken, Madam Bones."
"No I am not mistaken. But your bafflement is not uncalled for."
"What do you mean?" Lily felt like fainting but still managed to ask.
"You have been asleep for 12 hours Miss potter and I have been monitoring you."
"12 hours." Lily's eyes widened in shock.
"Your parents have been informed. They will be coming to see you in a few hours. It's a good thing you woke up before them. It's better that you know before they do."
"Madam Bones. Please. It's impossible for me to be pregnant. If such a report reached my parents, there will be hell to pay for."
"Mind your language Miss potter. And if you will please let me talk I will tell you why."
"It took us all night to figure out what had happened. When you first fainted, the potions professor brought you here along with Mr. Malfoy. You were both burning up. When I made a checkup on both of you, your cores were burning up. They were turning into so many colours. We were confused. Oh very confused."
Madam Bones went quiet, lost in thought.
May be Madam Bones is getting old and mad. Lily thought.
"Madam?"
"Oh yeah. It has been my first experience with professional conceive-ing procedure. It was enlightening. Enlightening indeed."
Lily's mind was going 2000 kilometres per hour. This isn't happening. Madam Bones has gone crazy. She didn't have a conceiving potion. Why would she. Madam bones is crazy. Crazy crazy...
"It was a beautiful procedure Miss Potter. Your cores glowed the same colours for hours, like dancing in harmony. Then ... then there was this golden spark in your core. And I knew what test I have to do next."
She didn't know what to think. The only thing she could make sense of, she asked.
"Scorpius ...?" She asked unsure.
"Oh Mr. Malfoy woke up hours ago. He got the news. He was here the whole time. The whole night. He just went to the headmistress to get permission to cancel his classes for the day. He wanted to be here when your parents came."
Lily felt like she was gonna faint.
"Madam bones. I think I am gonna sleep."
"Sure sure, dear."
She turned away from the school nurse and laid down.
...
Scorpius Xenophilius Malfoy
Hours before Lily had woken up, Scorpius was in the headmistress's office with his and Lily's Fathers. She had been still asleep. They have all been given the news of the Pregnancy. He was now explaining to the headmistress what had happened.
Harry had, as expected, thrown a fit and cursed everyone under the sun. To say that The potions professor was scared was an understatement. Draco then had suggested to Harry that throwing a fit like a moody pregnant lady was not a solution to the problem at hand, and neither was leaving for Azkaban for killing Professor Raisancoat.
"You think this can be solved? You think this is the situation to taunt me, Malfoy?" Harry had said glaring at Draco.
"Great. Now that You have come to your senses and calmed down, we can begin to let Scorpius explain the matter."
While Harry was still glaring at Draco, his father took a seat at the Headmistress's visitor's chair.
Harry went to stand by the window but remained silent.
"Mr. Malfoy. Please enlighten us to how did this happen." The headmistress told Scorpius.
He had an idea to what could have ended them up in this predicament but he was confused as to how was it made possible. He did not see a way other than telling the whole truth to the party.
"Lily and I were partnered before Christmas for advanced potions. We were given an opportunity to make any potion which could be completed in a month. We wanted to go big and get the most credit which could be given.
We spent the whole Christmas going through books and books, most were of ancient origins. We came around to this ritualistic potion. Lineagus Sominium."
He saw his Father's eyes bulge out as The headmistress's lips thinned into a line.
"Ancient Wizarding families used the potion with an incantation to see if the two matched couple could produce an heir in order for the houses to keep their line intact. The incantation was for the couple to see their offspring in a vision, to see what the child looked like, to see the child grow until its natural death. We were going to draw our memory of the vision into the pensive."
Harry was still silent, Scorpius could see the man was about to jump out of his own skin. He turned to the headmistress.
"Lily and I spent weeks looking for that magic professor. We know what it had been used for. It has never once given a result like this. It was supposed to give a mere glimpse of the future. Nothing more."
"Then how do you suppose did Miss Potter conceived." The headmistress asked.
"Actually professor we both knew it could be done. During our research we found out that some modifications had been made to the process since then. Modification to go a step further.
There was only addition of one ingredient and the couple could achieve the child itself, instead of just getting the glimpse. It was used to get the women to conceive and keep the ... errr... the baby if she had trouble doing so."
Scorpius felt his face heat up.
"What ingredient is that."
"Ashwagandha. It was an improvement. But we were very careful with all our ingredients. Ashwagandha was no where near our ingredient box. We made sure of it."
"What... what ingredient did you say?"
"Ashwagandha, professor."
Before anyone knew what had happened, Minerva McGonagall waved her wand and everyone in the room turned to see the potions professor immobilised and thudding to the ground.
...
When all was said and done, Harry has called for the team of aurors to arrest the professor. Auror Rodriguez along with the muggle contact has found that the Professor was the one to sell the drugs when they had checked cabinet. There had been tail-tale signs of the professor's magical signature to be used their last.
Both the headmistress and Auror Rodriguez has been witnesses to Raisancoat putting the ingredient in Lily and Scorpius's cauldron, which had landed the teenagers into such a predicament which was irreversible. Which of course would increase the sentence of Raisancoat.
After everyone had left, Harry and Draco along with Scorpius had made their way for the hospital ward.
Lily was sitting on the Hospital bed as Madam bones urged her to drink whatever it was in the tea cup she was holding.
"I can't, Madam, I just can't keep anything down at the moment."
"I know Miss Potter but this is for your own good. It will help."
Reluctantly lily took as sip and visibly swallowed it with some effort.
She looked like life has been drained from her eyes.
Without thinking he ran to her and took a seat beside her in the bed. He laid a hand on her back, trying to soothe her. He took the cup and brought it to her lips. Lily didn't even look at him. She looked so exhausted, she just laid her hand on his thigh and tried to drink again.
He was murmuring soothing words to her as she drank the whole thing with an effort.
"Scor" lily whispered.
"Yes, love?" She hadn't even looked at him, yet somehow she knew it was him.
"How did.. did it happen. We were ... were... care... ful." She laid her face in his shoulder as she closed her eyes. He wrapped his arm around her.
"We just found out how, Lil. But we can discuss that later. You need to rest now."
"Who is ... we?" She asked. Even in the exhausted state she was curious.
"You are a curious kitten." He told her, "Our fathers and I."
It took a few moments for it to register but she looked up from his shoulder towards the end of the bed where their fathers stood.
Draco had an arm around his husband who held on to the iron railing of the bed, his knuckles whitened. There were angry tears in Harry's eyes, as Draco murmured something in his hair.
"Dad." Lily said and Harry flew out of his Husband's arms and went to the other side of lily. She turned with some effort as Scorpius let her go. She wrapped her arms around his waist.
"I don't know what happened dad. I..."
"Shh." Harry soothed her. "It's okay. We know. You will be alright, baby. Please don't cry."
When she didn't reply they noticed that she had fallen asleep.
...
Hours later Lily was in better condition. She sat on her bed as Draco was talking to her from the chair next to her bed.
Scorpius was beside her on the bed, While Harry talked with Madam Bones across the room.
"You don't have to go through with this if you don't want to." Draco said to Lily.
Lily's watery eyes looked at him, stunned. Something like defiance flashed in her eyes. She felt Scorpius stiffen beside her.
"I .. I .. it's my baby, Draco. I won't. I won't give it up."
Draco's eyes soften. He laid his hand in her head.
"I know, Little one. You are as brave as your father and as fierce as your mother. I expect nothing less from you. But I have thought of you as my daughter since you were 9 years of age, and oh so excited to fly with me. I worry for you."
Lily flew into his arms. Draco has been a parent figure for her for years now. She has never called him so but she has always thought of him as her father in her head.
"Sorry to interrupt but I wanted to clear something." Harry and Madam bones now stood beside Draco.
"Even if Miss Potter wanted to give up the child she can't. The potions procedure has been developed specifically for the couples with issues of not being able to conceive or inability to keep the pregnancy long enough. The procedure is designed that it wouldn't be failed no matter what. The whole of ancestral Magic of Potter and Malfoy families are guarding the children." Madam Bones informed them.
Nobody said anything for a long time. Taking in the extent of the magic.
Scorpius laid a hand on Lily shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze. Lily leaned into his side, "I am fine." She said looking up into his eyes.
He nodded "I will be back" he murmured getting up from the bed.
Scorpius turned and looked at his father and stormed out of the room. As expected when his father followed him out into the corridor, into an abandoned classroom. He turned his defiant eyes on Draco.
"Father. I don't appreciate you insinuating that Lily give up our baby. You have no right."
Draco looked at his son, seeing the anger and the fear underneath. His mind flashed to something dangerous.
"Did you.. Did you do it on purpose? Did you know what those potions were?"
Scorpius looked taken aback. His anger temporarily curtailed. A hurt looked crossed in his eyes.
"You think I did it on purpose. That I will put the girl I love through something like this. To accomplish what Dad?"
Draco's eyes flashes with recognition.
"Don't. Don't pretend you didn't know about my feelings for her."
"I am not. That's why I was worried that love has made you do something rash to tie her to you."
"I never knew you had such low opinion of me. If you don't want to, you don't have to be part of our family, Because that's what we are gonna be. I intend to do right by her and my child."
Scorpius told his father. His face was blank now.
"Scorpius. I know you are of age now, that doesn't mean you are in anyway ready for this huge responsibility."
"I don't care. It is my baby, father, not yours. I will take care of it and Lily."
"I know you will, Scor. You are a responsible young man. I just worry. Forgive me for making you think I won't support you in anything you do."
Scorpius was silent for a while. His father wasn't trying to be mean or difficult. It was the situation they were in which was difficult. He understood that. He didn't want to regret anything. So he decided to just be honest.
"I am scared." He said in a low voice his eyes downcast.
His father didn't say anything. Moments later he felt arms around him, hugging him.
"I am here for you son. Always. No matter what."
"I love you, dad."
"You are my pride and joy, Scorpius. Love isn't strong enough word to describe what you are to me. And now you will know what it feels like when you hold your own child in your arms. In a few months."
Scorpius tightened his hold on his father. Not saying anything. Just remembering the times his childhood self had felt safe in his father's arms. The feeling hasn't changed even after all these years. Now soon he will have to be a father to his child soon. Thousands of questions flowing in his mind.
"I couldn't have asked for a better role model."
...
Lily Luna Potter
"Dad, I am scared." Harry was now sitting in the chair vacated by Draco.
"I am here for you, baby. No matter what. This little bundle of joy will have a huge family who will love him or her to pieces. You don't have to worry."
"I know, dad, but.
"What is it?"
"Scorpius. Surely he didn't think he will have a baby straight after school. Least of all with his Step sister. What if. What if he leaves and I am alone? Worse... What if he stays and resents us for the rest of his life."
Harry knew the questions coming in his daughter's head weren't unreasonable. It seemed she was unaware of the obvious feelings Scorpius had for her.
Initially he had suspected if the young man had done the deed on purpose in order to get Lily's attention, but then he had heard Draco talked to Lily like a concerned father. That's when he remembered the little boy holding Draco's hand, the boy who was fierce and loyal towards his sons. The boy who has been the first one of all the children to accept Harry. The boy who had eyes only for his little girl. He had know Scorpius for so long and had known he would never do something like that.
"Lily. If I were you I wouldn't worry. Yet I know all your questions are valid. There is only one thing you could do. Talk to Scorpius. Each and every question you have. Talk to him about your doubts. After today, none of you are little kids any more. Now you will have to take responsibility of a child together. It's time that you handle it like adults and talk."
"I ... I thought I wanted to grow up dad. I wanted to grow and move up and learn and experience so much. Now. Now I don't think I am ready to grow up."
"You don't have to. For your mother, Draco and I, you both will always be our little children. But it wouldn't be right for us to not let you be adults. Now your child must come first. You both will have to make decisions on your own. And believe me when I say this, we will always support you both with everything you decide. You three will never lack love from us."
Lily was silent for a while.
"You are right, dad. I love you."
"I love you too, my baby."
"Lily! Harry!" They heard a voice from the doorway
They both turned around to see Ginny holding hands with a little dark skinned girl with curly haired pigtails.
