Chapter two: Applejack vs. Garchomp (My Little Pony vs. Pokémon)
Over in the Crystal Kingdom, Princess Cadance was going over a spell book she had when she was approached by her husband, Shining Armor. "Hey Cadance, what's with the book?" Shining Armor asked as he looked at what his wife was doing.
"Oh, Twilight sent me this book because she wants me to check out a spell in here," Cadance replied. Her horn glowed with magic, and then she felt a popping flash somewhere. "...Well, that's it," Cadance remarked as she looked at the spell book.
Arching a curious eyebrow, Shining Armor asked, "What did the spell do?" Cadance merely gave a confused shrug, showing that she was just as clueless as her husband. Perhaps it was for the best that neither of them knew what happened.
Because the both of them would have freaked out if either of them had any idea of what all chaos that Cadance's devil-may-care spellcasting was going to lead to.
...
Out in the far away (from Cadance and Shining Armor at least) barren fields that the Diamond Dogs are known to dig around in, a flash of magic appeared, and when the flash faded, a Garchomp was shown to be standing where the flash had just occurred.
When the light from the flashing magic faded, the Garchomp, the notch in its back fin indicating it's a male of its species, opened its eyes. Right away, Garchomp could tell that wherever it was that he had been zapped to, it wasn't with his trainer in the Sinnoh region.
"Garchomp?" said Garchomp, confused by his surroundings and mildly worried to be in an unknown (to him at least) land. The mighty pseudo-legend was panicking as it was in an alien place without his trainer there to reassure him.
And it was as Garchomp was panicking that a rock hit him on his right thigh, although the rock only succeeded in making Garchomp turn to see a trio of Diamond Dogs starring at it, the shortest one of the trio looking to have been the one to throw the rock at it.
"Hey! You there, weird monster!" the shortest Diamond Dog called out, "You're going to work for my brothers and I to help us dig up gems! Now come over to us so that we can put you in a metal collar and some chains so we can put you to work!"
Garchomp's answer to the demands of the Diamond Dogs, an answer that he gave right away, was to retaliate by using Earthquake.
...
Over at Sweet Apple Acres, Apple Bloom was sitting at the table eating breakfast with her older brother Big Mac. "When's Applejack coming in?" Apple Bloom asked, "Her pancakes will get cold if she doesn't come in and eat them soon."
"Applejack is probably stubbornly trying to finish up her chores before she-" Big Mac said, only to stop short when he and Apple Bloom felt an earthquake rock the land that the farm was on. "Now what in blazes was that?" Big Mac said.
"I hope Applejack won't investigate whatever that was," Apple Bloom said, "Because at that rate, she'll never eat her pancakes."
...
The Diamond Dogs were all running scared from the digging fields they're known to inhabit, all of them fleeing like a herd of stampeding cows. But whereas the Diamond Dogs were all fleeing from the direction of their fields, Applejack, the earth pony farmer and bearer of the Element of Honesty, was making her way in that direction.
"What in tarnation has got all of these Diamond Dogs all up in a tizzy?" Applejack said aloud to herself as she made her way, "One would swear that it's probably Discord up to his tricks again even though Fluttershy got him to behave himself now." Rounding a corner around a large rock in the fields, Applejack went on, "There's got to- WOAH NELLY!"
Applejack stopped short upon seeing some knocked out Diamond Dogs laying on the ground, some of them not looking too hot. Standing in the middle of the field of knocked out Diamond Dogs was some tall, bipedal beast of some kind that looked to be a mix of shark and dragon, along with a dash of some flying machine Twilight mentioned after her return trip from the world of humans.
Having heard Applejack's exclamation, the beast turned around and spotted her. It gave a very low, guttural snarl before it roared at the earth pony. "GARCHOMP!" roared the beast, equal parts as a threat and as a challenge to Applejack, "GARCHOMP!" Knowing she wasn't exactly able to get away for help, Applejack resigned herself to one heck of a rodeo.
Right away, Applejack charged right at Garchomp, intending to shoulder ram into it. But Garchomp retaliated by using Earthquake again, shaking the entirety of the surrounding area with a truly strong earthquake. Applejack stumbled side to side as she struggled to stay upright while she felt as if her entire world was shaking.
After the earthquake settled, Applejack got out her lasso and swung it around before casting it at Garchomp, catching him around his neck. "Aha!" Applejack said, "I got you, ya mangy var-" Applejack stopped short when Garchomp cut the rope around his neck with a claw that was glowing fiercely with dragonic power, an ingenious way to use Dragon Claw to get free from a lasso.
Garchomp then used Rock Tomb, making large rocks fall down from the sky above and around Applejack, striking her along various parts of her person including her hind legs. "Gaahh!" cried the farming earth pony, "I'm gonna feel that one in the morning!" Applejack was able to get out of the rocks and tried running for Garchomp again.
However, Applejack saw that, despite putting in as much effort this time as she did the last time she tried charging for Garchomp, she wasn't running as fast. She had no idea that getting hit by the Rock Tomb attack from Garchomp actually lowered how fast she was. Regardless, she knew that she was in trouble if she couldn't take down this monster before her.
As such, Applejack charged right at Garchomp again, but her shoulder ram was countered by Garchomp swinging its head, which was shining like polished metal, to knock Applejack back to where she was. "Now that smarts!" Applejack cried, "What in tarnation is your head made out of you monster, solid iron?!"
"Garchomp!" roared Garchomp at the talking equine he had just hit with Iron Head. Applejack was worried that things may go south here if things stayed here, so she decided to try to lead Garchomp away from the Diamond Dog fields. Luckily for her, the Everfree Forest was nearby, so she really pumped out a lot of effort into running to lure Garchomp into a more remote location.
Even though her speed was lowered due to the earlier hit she took from Rock Tomb, Applejack was still able to successfully lure Garchomp into the Everfree Forest. But the beast was hot on her tail, too much so to let Applejack have time to set something, anything really, up to give her an edge. All she was able to do was bring Garchomp even further away from Ponyville.
Celestia willing, that would be enough.
Applejack still had enough rope to make another lasso and try again to wrangle Garchomp, but as soon as he saw the lasso coming and recognized it, he readied a Dragon Claw attack and clawed at the flying rope, cutting it up before it could try capturing him again. Applejack scowled, especially as she no longer had a long enough length of rope to make another effective lasso.
Applejack ran in to shoulder ram Garchomp, taking a gash across the left side of her back (from her point of view) when Garchomp used Dragon Claw on her directly. She was still able to shoulder ram the monster, pushing it back a bit but not looking like she had done all that much. Applejack was then able to run in and kick at Garchomp with both of her hind feet.
It struck Garchomp on the front of his left thigh, making him snarl a bit in a tone that was three parts pain and seven parts annoyance. He then used Iron Head, swinging down with his shining head and striking Applejack in her back, making her cry out in pain as the Iron Head had actually hit Applejack on the wound on her back made earlier by Dragon Claw.
The earth pony farmer stumbled away, a mix of pain and slight disorientation. But Applejack is nothing if not stubborn, and she gritted her teeth and forced herself through the pain so she could turn back around and face Garchomp. "You..." Applejack said, huffing and puffing with exhaustion, "...You're a light workout compared to what I do to keep an eye on my little sister and her friends."
Garchomp, having no idea what his opponent was talking about, snarled in an unamused tone before he lashed out with another Earthquake, utterly wracking the whole of the area of the Everfree Forest that he and his opponent was in. Applejack, due to injury and exhaustion over the course of her fight against Garchomp so far, actually fell over onto her plot.
She was barely able to scramble herself away as Garchomp came rushing at her to strike at her with Dragon Claw. The pseudo-legend turned sharply just in time to see Applejack try kicking at him with both of her hind feet again, but aiming at his right thigh this time and her rear right hoof missed while the rear left hoof scored a mild grazing hit at best.
Applejack had to jump away to avoid Garchomp's next Iron Head, and as she stumbled to regain her footing after landing from jumping away, Garchomp used Rock Tomb to make large rocks fall down onto Applejack, hitting her again and scoring another drop on Applejack's speed. Applejack was able to get out from the rocks, but her speed was now even lower.
Garchomp figured that his trainer had her reasons for having him learn Rock Tomb, and seeing that his opponent was getting less fast with each time he hit her with Rock Tomb, Garchomp knew that he'll be able to keep her from getting away from him before he's able to bring her down and win this crazy battle that they were having in this forest.
Applejack could tell she wasn't going to be able to get away, so she drew on what all stubbornness that she had and rushed at Garchomp with every last ounce of strength she was able to muster up, despite her injuries over the course of the fight, her speed being lowered twice, and the fact that she was actually losing blood.
But she could do this. She had gone on so many crazy adventures with her friends that there was no way she couldn't pull herself out of this mess. With a defiant yell, Applejack when she got close enough jumped up at Garchomp to try and shoulder ram him as high up as she could reach, hoping to knock the monster onto its flank.
However, Applejack didn't see Garchomp's right claw glowing fiercely with the dragonic power that happens when he uses Dragon Claw. Aiming for right below Applejack's chin, Garchomp swung his glowing claw swift and true, gouging out Applejack's throat and making her go wide eyed with both pain and alarm.
The earth pony farmer landed with a thud, barely able to stand up as blood came from both her mouth and gouged out neck wound. Garchomp then raised his head back as it shone like polished metal, then swung his head down to ram it into Applejack's head, striking Applejack in the head with Iron Head hard enough to bash her head in.
Applejack fell lifelessly to the ground in the Everfree Forest, like a puppet whose strings had been cut. Seeing that his opponent was defeated forever, Garchomp raised his head up and loudly roared out, "GARCHOMP! GARCHOMP!" Garchomp then looked down at Applejack's hat, sniffed at it, picked it up with his mouth, and ran off with it.
WINNER: GARCHOMP
END, CHAPTER TWO
Author's notes;
As a sidenote, part of the name for the Marbles Numbuh One used in the last chapter refused to be saved even though I wrote it down. I tried multiple times but the last few letters refused to show up for some odd reason. But just so we're clear, it was the marbles he was using.
Anyway, this chapter sees the first death in Fiction Fighters, as Applejack is killed by a Garchomp. He also takes her hat for some odd reason and runs off with it. This will be addressed in a future chapter believe it or not. But you'll see what I mean if and when that chapter comes out.
Anyway, this chapter introduces a new Fiction Fighters rule, although it's exclusive to competitors who are Pokémon;
4. If one of the competitors in a chapter of Fiction Fighters is a Pokémon, that Pokémon will be able to use any attack that it can legally know in the games. For example, Garchomp was able to use Earthquake in this chapter as Earthquake is a move it can legally know, but it couldn't use an attack like, say, Roar of Time as it can't legally know that move.
Anyway, I'm still open to ideas for future fights in this story. I'm also going to try to work with a theme in every chapter; the last chapter, Numbuh One versus Clover, was red clothes wearing operatives of organizations like KND and W.O.O.H.P., and this chapter was gen four characters with an earthen theme to them.
I'm not sure how the theme of the next chapter will work, but this is still something I'm trying to work with. Anyway, I'll see you later. Until then, take care.
Next time, on Fiction Fighters...
Lynn Loud Jr. ran after a ball that one of her friends had kicked too hard while they and their team was getting in some practice for the next big soccer game. She had to go into some wooded area to get that ball. "Mom's gonna kill me if I get mud on this jersey again," Lynn said to herself as she looked around for her ball.
Eventually, Lynn found a ball but it wasn't her team's ball. But it was the same kind of ball, and it had a cool yet subtly monstrously creepy vibe to it. "Dude, that ball looks cool," Lynn remarked, "I bet that a ball like that can get even Lucy interested in joining me in sports!" Lynn, forgetting all about her team's original ball, went right for the cool new ball.
Lynn reached down and picked the new ball up, but stopped short when she heard an older girl's voice call out, "Hey, that's me and my friends' ball you found!" Lynn turned and saw an Afro-Latino girl who looked to be around Luan's and Leni's age come walking on in. She had long bushy hair, wore glasses, and was dressed for playing sports.
"Can I have that back, young lady?" the Afro-Latino girl asked Lynn, "My friends and I were still playing soccer."
"You can have it back when my team and I are done playing," Lynn said, "We lost our ball so we need this one for at least until practice is over."
The older girl immediately became annoyed. "You had better hand it over, young lady."
Taking the older girl's sudden shift in tone as a challenge, Lynn said, "Oh-ho! Sounds like you're ready to rumble!" Setting the ball she down down, Lynn assumed a stance for fighting. "Let's see you put your money where your mouth is."
"...Fine," the older girl said as she reached down the front of her jersey, pulling out a necklace that she wore around her neck under her jersey. To Lynn's surprise, the necklace glowed, and in a flash, the older girl had turned into what seemed to be a werewolf. The now transformed girl said, "I'll teach you better than to try and take from me and my friends!" The transformed older girl then went right at Lynn in a straight rushing line.
