Wargames 2: New Dawn
So another chapter for the Red Alert alternate timeline, I have to say I like the allied side story a lot more than I do the Soviet side, but it's all good in the end, this was written shortly after I did the previous chapter but I never posted it up. Again I try to do what the Red Alert/Command and Conquer series did in general and try and avoid naming the Commander. I just think it fits better that way, also introduced albeit only for a brief moment is another Commander Lissette whose attitude in the game always amused me.
Fun coincidence I also have a Warlock in WoW named the same… didn't even make the connection when I did that. fun had by all.
Summary: Lost in time, Harry was thrown into the Red Alert 3 timeline, discovered by the Alliance, Harry agrees to help them fight the Red Menace, no matter the cost.
Disclaimer: Obviously I do not own Red Alert or anything you recognise related to it, that all belongs to EA. I also do not own Harry Potter, which belongs to J.K Rowling
Timeline: Red Alert 3
Chapter 1: Agreement.
The Commander looked at the results of the tests in front of him. The peacekeepers had gone to the Dursley Residence and found the young Harry Potter in the condition that Harry had predicted and the Dursley's were now facing charges of Negligence and Child Abuse. Their son, Dudley was being sent to a foster home while the proper authorities continued the case against them.
Tap, tap, tap.
The commander didn't even look up as he called for the person to enter.
"Sir, the file you requested on Tom Riddle."
"Thank you, leave it on the desk." The Commander continued as he signed away at a few pieces of paperwork. 'The bane of my existence.' He mused idly as he put the last one away and picked up the folder. "Tom Riddle, what is your background." He muttered as he flicked open the folder, staring at the picture blinking slightly. "Damn he's ugly." He muttered looking at the picture. The man was bold,, no nosed, pale and looked like what a snake would. "Impressive body modifications but did he really think that looking like a snake would appeal to anyone?" He questioned and flicked through the pages. "Real Name: Tom Marvolo Riddle, Aliases include: Voldemort." He paused, snickering slightly, "Voldemort? Really?" He questioned. "The (self proclaimed) Dark Lord, The Heir of Slytherin." He paused at that name. "Slytherin… I've read that before somewhere," He dug through several folders looking for the relevant ones, several others falling to the floor paperwork sliding everywhere as he opened the Hogwarts folder. "Hogwarts Founders, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff, Godric Gryffindor and Salazar Slytherin." Again he paused looking over the notes. "Why would you want to announce you're an heir to a founder of a school?" He asked before switching back to the notes of Tom Riddle. "hmm, attended Hogwarts School for Gifted Children, disappeared shortly after leaving, linked to several mysterious deaths but nothing concrete…" He trailed off as he heard another tap on the door. "Enter!" He called out and the door clicked open. "Leader of a Terrorist Group known as Death Eaters. Did he pull these names out of a cartoon or something?" The commander questioned.
"To you they would seem comical, but to others, they inspired fear to which is still holding people to this very day." A wizened old voice spoke and The Commander looked up staring in disbelief at the person.
The man looked old enough to be his great grandparent. He stood in front of him in a dark blue robe with stars and moons decorated onto it. he was looking at him with a disapproving look on his face, clearly visible even with his large white beard that he had and Harry. He blinked a couple of times and slowly closed the folder. "I think I've been working too hard." The commander spoke up and the man laughed for a moment. "Either that or Gandalf the White is actually standing in my office… although he seems to have gone colour blind," he paused as he made a hand gesture at the robe. "Or I've just entered a whole new level of insanity." He commented and the man stood there. "So, who are you and what can I do for you?"
"I am Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts, I have been sent to speak with you, concerning your inquiries into the school and subjects related to it, Voldemort being one of them." He paused as the Commander snorted at the name.
"Sorry, still can't take it seriously." He responded and gestured for Dumbledore to take a seat. "So, who sent a school teacher to speak to me?" He asked.
"Your investigations are very close to revealing a secret that has been kept since the very founding of Hogwarts." Dumbledore explained.
"What, like it's a school of magic or something?" He asked and saw a twinkle in the eyes of the Headmaster. "No. no way, that's just not physically possible." He spoke and Dumbledore smiled as he pulled a stick out of his pocket. "Magic Wand?" He questioned and Dumbledore nodded as he brought a hand to his eyes rubbing at them as Dumbledore turned a lamp into a cat. "Not possible… that's just, ok, I'm definitely hallucinating… meeting that Potter teen finally added too much to my workload." He commented and Dumbledore looked at him.
"Potter teen?" He questioned.
"It's classified," the Commander quickly responded, cursing himself at letting that information slip. "Can't go into it at all." He continued. "So, magic… its, if the cat is any indication, its real." He said changing the subject and listened as Dumbledore went on about the secret society and the truth behind Tom Riddle. During this talk he had pressed the button to open a link between himself and Eva, just so he had backup on what he was hearing just so he didn't sound like a mad man. After about an hour of Dumbledore explaining everything that the Commander thought was relevant at that time he asked if Dumbledore had anyway that he could get in touch if there was any more questions. Dumbledore left him with a small device and then with a small smile of amusement left with a small pop, vanishing in front of him.
"Eva, I didn't just imagine that did I?" He asked as he turned to the monitor to see it flash up, Eva staring at him with a look of disbelief.
"If you did sir, then I saw it too. This is… incredible to say the least, a whole other world hidden in the shadow of our own."
"I don't think much of the dress sense though." He commented and Eva laughed.
"Nor do I sir, but just think of the possibilities… do you think that's how Mr Potter managed to travel through time?"
"I have no clue what so ever, but I plan to ask him." He said and Eva nodded her head and cut the link as the Commander ordered Harry to be brought back up to interrogation. The only reason they had him in a cell here was because they were holding him under the pretence of trespassing but Harry didn't seem to mind, when he had been asked about it his only response had been to comment on how he had no where to go at the moment.
In the interrogation room Harry sat looking calm and relaxed as he hummed to himself. Yes it sucked that he was in a cell when not in the interrogation room, yes it sucked that he was still not back in his proper time, yes it doubly sucked that Hoshi was not here as well. But he knew that things would sort themselves out one way or another. Idly he wondered about how him getting his younger self out of the Dursley's might effect the time line but another less rational part of his mind didn't care, as far as he was concerned, a wrong needed to be righted. The door opened and the Commander walked in.
"How are you Harry?" He asked calmly.
"Well treated, surprisingly relaxed and also surprised that the cell bed is actually comfortable." He commented, not adding the fact that the bed was in truth terrible but he was playing nice.
"Good, good. Now I want to ask you something else." He commented and Harry looked at him. "I want to ask you about Albus Dumbledore."
"He's the headmaster of my school, why?" Harry asked voice tinted with curiosity.
"I had an interesting chat with him today." He continued and Harry looked surprised. "He told me quite a bit about the current state of the magical world and its more recent events concerning Vol…" He trailed off as he chuckled again. "I'm sorry but that has to be one of the stupidest names I've ever head. He told me about Riddle and half the things he was involved in. Now I want you to continue the tale. If you're from the future like you say, you have a presence around you that shows that you've been involved or witnessed things that others haven't. You also mentioned that things weren't right about now." He commented coolly, still unsure as to what he meant.
"The UK wasn't at war with the Soviet in 1986, there was the cold war, yes but there was nothing like this, we didn't get invaded by them, they weren't invading the rest of Europe." Harry explained and the Commander gave up on all pretence of acting calm and collected as he actively gaped at Harry. "Everything around here seems a lot more advanced than what was around back in my time. I'm really not sure, having not seen much, but that tactical interface. I don't think I've heard about that in the 90's let alone the mid 80's." Harry continued without care as he spoke. "Riddle, you've no doubt read that he's dead, but he's not, this is gonna sound really strange but he, at this moment is a spirit hovering around somewhere, if I remember correctly Dumbledore said it was Albania… sounds right, but I cant remember." He spoke calmly. "A year before my time first time jump, he got his body back." Harry explained and then continued covering the details that he knew as the Commander sat listening in shock to what he heard.
"This is all so hard to believe…" The Commander muttered and Harry snorted.
"I've lived it and I'm still waiting to wake up." Harry smirked as the Commander stood up.
"Give me a bit of time to speak to a few people and I'll see what I can get done about your living arrangements, seeing as you have no where to go or what to do. You sound like someone who has seen their share of fights, the Allies plan to push back into Europe to fight the Soviets, if what you say is true and things have changed then you'll have some hint on what to look for."
"I will?"
"Possibly, it could be magic, it could be some technology that they have hidden away, but I want to find out. Would you be willing to tag along?"
"Things aren't right here, you're taking a big chance by trusting me but," he paused collecting his thoughts. "This can help me if things get turned back to normal, I can learn how to fight properly so that I can deal with my problems." Harry responded with a nod of his head. "I'll help you where I can." He replied and the Commander nodded as he exited the room.
The door to the observation room opened up and a Brunette woman stepped out, wearing the female commander uniform he smiled at her and nodded his head. "Seems kind of crazy, huh commander." She spoke up and he couldn't help but agree.
"That it does Lissette, that it does, but I can't help but believe him." He spoke, "It sounds too crazy not to be true and everything I've witnessed so far just backs it up.
"Aren't you at all hesitant about what the 'real timeline' might be? And wow I feel crazy just saying that." Lissette spoke up and laughed as the two walked down the corridor. "You plan to take him with us when we go to France?" She questioned and he nodded.
"If the origin of all of this is magical, that feels weird just saying, don't think I'll ever get used to it… if it's magical then he can help us spot it, if its technological, we can find it. if it all turns out to be true but I've had tests done on both his DNA and the DNA of the Harry Potter kid we rescued from the relatives and they are a match so unless someone has been creating clones… well he's the real deal." He commented and Lissette shrugged her shoulders.
"We'll see commander, we'll see. But the General Okayed your change of station, you and me, we're heading to the front for this."
"You're coming as well?" He said in surprise.
"Of course, Bingham thinks some on the scene commanders might make transition of orders more effective. Besides, you're not the only one tired of being cooped up behind a desk." She said as they stopped outside the door to Bingham's office. "Well Commander? Are you ready?" She questioned and he nodded his head.
