Chapter 10
Ominous Sky
With a heavy sigh Percy pushed the bed against the steel door. He double checked the door and gave it several tugs before concluding it was indeed shut.
After triple confirming that fact, Percy began to lower himself to the floor. He felt tired, dirty, scared but most of all; so damn lonely.
It was ironic, considering he could hear the dead scratching against the other side of the door.
He wanted to laugh at the irony of the situation. To just yell at the castle in the sky and curl up to cry.
He couldn't do any of that.
Over the course of his day it became clear that these abominations swarming the street were attracted to sound. His invisibility cap–no Annabeth's–still worked as intended. After they had all woken up he could walk right pass them for several blocks. That was until he made the mistake of coughing.
The cough alerted only a dozen of them, but they started howling which brought in even more lost souls. They too began to howl and it wasn't long before every undead in the city was afer him.
The only reason he was still alive was the cap and the fact leaping from rooftop to rooftop masked his location.
The Moon was rising and Percy hoped that if he just managed to stay quiet long enough, the city would go back to sleep.
Slowly munching on a chocolate bar Percy looked up at the pale moon. The moon, it felt wrong. It looked like it was glaring.
The city in the sky hung quietly above the Empire State building. No movement could be seen, no live but the tiny flames of torches and temple fires. The only light source in the city came from its demise.
At least the night wasn't cold.
Percy began to look through all the random rubbish he found on this rooftop.
He struck gold when a dirty looking blanket presented itself. Almost gleefully Percy wrapped it around himself and leaned against the barricade. If he suspended his disbelief and ignored the scratching noises he could almost imagine he was back inside the Argo II, hiding in the horse stables with Annabeth.
A mechalonic smile grew. How funny that back then, he thought the situation was bad. If only now he could have the entire crew to back him up or the approval of his father and a semblance of a plan.
He promised Leo to find out why and to put a stop to this but now, sitting alone on top of some random tall building in his hometown, he felt further from his goal than before.
What could he do? Storm Olympus?
Maybe doing that would be possible if there wasn't a horde of zombies going through Manhattan.
Zombies.
That's what they were. Except Percy had seen plenty of zombies, ghost and spirits before. But they all didn't come close to what he encountered today.
Nico's driver had been a zombie, Frank's weird bodyguard in Alaska was a living undead but both of them looked more alive than the entire horde in this city combined.
Everything inside Tartarus looked more welcoming than this freakshow.
The thought of Tartarus made Percy homesick. That hell pit had been manageable, or felt like it at least.
If only Annabeth was here...
A bright light show awoke Percy from his dream. It had been a pleasant dream. Everyone was still alive.
Percy sat up straight and rubbed his eyes. The moon was definitely higher than before. Percy was wondering what woke him when he stared at the skyline and saw a wall of green light cutting the city in two..
Still dazed Percy got to his feet and walked to the edge to get a better look.
The East River, or atleast the East side of its shore, was bathing in green flames. Green tendrils of fire wormed their way through Brooklyn. A sea of Greek Fire pulverising skyscrapers and streets like a violent river.
Percy was both amazed and terrified.
The entirety of Manhattan was captured in its green glow but for some reason the fires didn't spread out but remained around and in Brooklyn. Almost as if the fire had a will on its ownPercy fell asleep not long after ¹»¿©±¼Ñ¥ᛀ¦§ōŤĦį!̵̡̣͈͔͍̹̮͎̦̺̭̚͜!̶̘̮̲̙̩̜̹̗͉̇̏̃̎͛̐̈́̌̏̇̾ŋ'')(8̷̡̡̛̰̟̮̘̼͕̝̩̫̥̺̩̟́̓̔̾͌͒̕̕͝3̵̧̢̢̙͙̓̈́͛̿̂̿̾͝͝ĠŧŐő ⊞¥¦§¥¦§7̷̨̲̳̯̖̾̇̌̍̎͠*&¥¦§*ᛀ^* š⊞éꥦ§ ħēᛀřë-ᛀᛀᛀ=
It happened in the morning and passed so quickly Percy wasn't even sure it happened.
There were planes- no jets. Military ones. They flew through the city so fast Percy noticed them only a second before they were gone. His ADHD noticed they had Japanese symbols on the wings instead of English.
They were headed for Olympus, shooting glowing orbs towards the floating stronghold—maybe missiles.
They crashed into a glowing shield that covered the city. They exploded but only nearby buildings fell.
The planes turned.
A blinding flash came from Olympus.
Lightning struck both planes.
Both planes exploded.
All of this happened in just 3 seconds.
Percy stared at the clear blue sky.
He suddenly wanted to run as far away from this city as possible.
He packed his stuff.
A/N Hi, it is me again with another chapter. I do love writing this fic as I am pretty sure there arent many fics with this premise out there. Most of the time when Olympus is the antagonist Percy is a Dark Percy but I like to think this works pretty decent.
