Chapter 82 – Decorating the House
Luke was sitting on the floor, playing with his son, when the door of his apartment opened and the girls came running in their direction, each one of them holding a bag.
"Papa!" Alli screamed, stopping in front him. "Padmé and I got the most beautiful dresses for Life Day's eve in the Temple." she said all excited.
"Really?" Luke asked looking at the girls who had sat down at the lounge couch.
"Wanna see?" Padmé asked, but before her father could answer, they both were already taking out the dresses out of their bags.
Padmé showed a light pink dress, while Alli was pearl type of white, but what made Luke notice was that both dresses were totally different. Alli's one had some type of cape.
"And we got matching shoes too," Alli said taking out her sparkly white shoes, while Padmé's shoes were light pink.
"Aren't they beautiful?" Padmé say twirling around.
"They are actually, very beautiful." Luke nod.
"Come on girls, go put the bags in your bedroom, and you too Ben, while mama put the grocery in the kitchen." Ines ordered, shaking her head when the girls ran towards their bedroom, while she went towards the kitchen, with Luke following her right behind to help her, leaving R2 watching Luke jr carefully, just in case the toddler didn't touch one of the decoration that were on the floor, ready to be on the Life Day's tree.
"I was started to worry since it had being a few hours since you left with Leia and the kids?", Luke said helping Ines with the groceries.
"I'm sorry sweetheart," she said wrapping her arms around her husband's neck and kissed him on the lips. "But the fits for the kids outfits for Luma and Reed's weeding took a while, since we were not expecting the boys outfits were ready to try. And the boys will look so cute." she smiled.
"I can imagine," he laughed.
"Then the girls saw the dresses and you know that we still needed something for the girls, since we already have the boys suits. And Leia also found the cutest suits for the twins. So that took us a while too."
"I have to say, I'm shocked that they choose different dresses. It is the first time that happened."
"Me too. You know when it is fancy clothes they always want to wear the same thing. But today Alli liked one and Padmé the other. I asked them, more than once if that was what they really want, and when I bought, they couldn't change it anymore. But they were sure."
"They are growing and I don't like it," Luke pout, making Ines laughed.
"They are 5 now and you better get used to that. There will be a time they will not wont to dress the same anymore. That happened when they were little. Yes they are identical, but they have different personalities all along."
"I know," Luke sighed.
"And then when we went for the groceries, it was packed. I guess many people had the same idea than us, buy stuff ahead before the weekend's fog." she said. "That is why we took longer."
"Well Han was here and it gave me time, to take everything from the boxes, I had a little help of my own," he said looking at her son who entered the kitchen caring the ball and showed it to his mother.
"Ba!"
"Yes that's a Life Day's ball." she smiled at him and looked at Luke. "So, I guess you have everything ready now?"
"Only waiting for you guys," he said picking Luke, and both head to the living room.
"Girls, Ben, come on, let's put the tree up," Ines called, shaking her head when they came out running and jumping.
"Yes!" they said at the same time.
Little by little, they started to put the big green tree together, piece by piece, until the top almost touched the ceiling of the apart.
Then, like they used to do every year, they but the balls of many colors and sizes, then the different color and sparkling ribbons, and then the lights around the tree.
After all of that was in the tree, Ines brought a little box, which made Luke frown.
"What is that?"
"Well, this year we decided to add something new for the tree," Ines said.
"Dad, we saw in the Life Day's shop when we were coming hope, some great decorations and me and the twins asked mom if we could bought some to put in the tree this year."
"More decorations?" Luke asked looking at the tree. "Don't think the tree is full enough?"
"We didn't bought a lot. Actually Leia thought it was such a god idea, she bought some too."
"Okay, and what type of decorations is it?"
Putting the box on the couch, Ines opened and took a little X-Wing.
"It's decorations related to you, mama and aunt Leia and uncle Han and Uncle Chewie?" Padmé said, taking out a Millennium Falcon decoration.
"It has your dad's and your green's lightsaber," Ines said showing to Luke.
"And it has you Papa," Alli show a little Luke Skywalker, with his black outfit with his green lightsaber, and another one as a pilot.
"Isn't this cute. It even has Leia back in the day with that hair!", Ines said showing a young version of Leia.
"I bet my sister didn't find funny at all."
"Aunt Leia was not happy, but we loved it." Ben laughed looking at his father.
"Come on, let's put this on the tree and see how it looks like," Ines said.
After putting the many decorations, like X-Wings, their little figures when they were young, even little Ewoks were there and Master Yoda figurine, Lando's, alongside with Obi Wan's and even Anakin's, they stepped back and looked at it.
"So?" Ines asked looking at her husband.
"I have to say, it is different but weird to see, at least, us on the Life Day's tree."
"That is why is funny. The shop owner was the one who came up the idea, and they are selling like crazy."
"Are you telling me that throughout Coruscant, everyone will have a Luke Skywalker figurine on their tree?"
"Dad, that's the pay of being a celebrity," Ben said taping his father's arm making Luke looked at his son with wide eyes, while Ines laughed.
"Han will not be happy," Luke said.
"I can't wait to see his face too," Ines laughed. "But there is still one thing. The big Life Day's Ball at the top of the tree. So who will put it today?"
"Me, Me!" the girls said jumping up and down.
Even their little brother did the same, imitating them.
"Well, for the past years, mama and papa were the ones who put the Ball at the top, and you two will have your chance too. But since your brother started at the Academy this year, how about we let him put the Ball this year and an early Life Day's present?" Luke replied looking at the girls, who nod.
"Me? Really?"
"Well, we know you can do it, and this is the only time we use the force so, how about you show us what you are learning at school," Luke smiled at his son, who smiling, he focus and all of the sudden the Big Blue Ball flew from his hands and land on the top of the Tree, making everyone clap.
"Very good sweetie," Ines said hugging his son.
"Now let's turn on the lights," Luke said and turning them up, the tree light up with all the different light colors, that in minute were still, while in the next minute they were turning on and off in a sequence, like they always did.
"Oh!" Baby Luke said pointing at the lights, in his mother's arms.
"Pretty isn't baby?" she asked kissing his cheeks.
Looking at the beautiful tree, Luke looked at his kids:
"How about we put your trees too, and then help mama with the dinner so we can check Uncle Han and Aunt Leia's tree after that?"
"YAYA!" the girls said and ran right away towards their bedroom.
"Hey who said yours will be first," Ben said running after them.
Ines and Luke smiled and kissed each other. They loved Life Day's, especially after they become parents and they couldn't asked for any other way.
So the Skywalker Tree is ready.
