The guys just finished reading all the papers in the folder. Running his hand through his bleach-blond locks, Lester who never has an issue keeping quiet was suddenly thin-lipped and tense. A quiet Lester can be a dangerous Lester.

Ranger turned to Lester "What's going through that mind of yours Primo?"

He sat there staring silently at the closed file for a good 90 seconds. He cleared his throat. "I feel like I'm somehow responsible for this. I did his interview when you, Tank and Steph were busy with Brenda. I went over his background report 3 times. How did this not come up?"

Wanting to make sure he understood, Ranger didn't have his blank face in place. There was empathy and understanding in his eyes. "Primo, we all looked at his file. It checked out. There were no flags and he came recommended by Chief Master Sergeant Marton. His reports were clean and there were no large sums of money being deposited or withdrawn. This isn't your fault. We all agreed to hire him."

Stephanie put a hand on Lester's arm. He finally looked up at her. There was anguish and anger in those emerald eyes. Steph and Ranger knew why this was bothering Lester so much. Santos's mom Marcella and Ranger's dad Emilio were siblings. Lester's dad died when he fell off a ladder and suffered a traumatic brain injury when Les was only 15. Marcella moved down to Florida to start over. When her son would inquire about her dating Marcella seemed disinterested. When Santos was 18 he signed up for the Army with Carlos. Their birthdays were a month apart. While the boys were at boot camp Marcella had met a man. Internet dating had just become a thing and they met in a yahoo chat room. The way he was described to Lester and everyone else, you would of thought he hung the moon. Bill truly believed it about himself too. He said that he was a Vietnam combat Veteran. He wore a Purple Heart, Bronze and Silver Star. A very accomplished soldier. He also said he was a retired lawyer who prosecuted the worst of society. He claimed he sent many rapists, child molesters and murderers to prison.

Lester, Carlos and family met Bill at their boot camp graduation. They both couldn't put their finger on it but didn't like the guy. It turns out neither did Emelio but he didn't want to push his sister away. He told her his feelings. Marcella got offended and Emelio apologized. He loved his younger sister too much to fight over her boyfriend at their age. The guys were leaving for their jobs after graduating and there wasn't much they could do. Lester's mom seemed happy and that was most important to all of them. Marcella married Bill without telling her family. The marriage ended with Marcella being scammed for every penny she had. It would also end up costing her even more. She paid with her life.

Lester called his mother like he did every Tuesday and Thursday. She hadn't picked up Tuesday and when he tried on Thursday his call was answered by a woman who was not his mom. She hung up on Lester and when he tried to dial it back the number was no longer in service. He caught the next flight to West Palm Beach Florida. When he was strangely denied entrance at the security gate, he picked up his phone to call his Aunt Teddi. She wasn't really his Aunt but was a cousin of a cousin. Not blood but just as close. Teddi explained that his mom was rushed by ambulance to the hospital Monday morning. She offered to call Lester but Bill said he did. He never called. He never texted. Lester heard her mumble softly "John and I never liked him but we wanted your mom happy." Raising an eyebrow for her to go on, Teddi just hugged him and expressed that he needed to go see his mom and where to find her. She also said to call if he needed anything at all. No matter the time. Lester had no idea he would find his mother on life support and the husband nowhere to be found. He found his mother in a coma and on a ventilator at Delray Medical Center. Les had only been able to hold Marcella's hand and didn't even get a private moment with her because Bill walked as if someone alerted him that he was there. Bill was so eager to have the Doctor pull the plug. Had Lester not driven down there on a hope and a prayer, he would have never gotten to say goodbye to his mom. Santos pleaded for the Dr to do an autopsy and toxicology report but due to Florida laws, he was denied by the husband who insisted on having her cremated the next day. The asshole didn't even allow for a memorial. He refused the funeral director to allow her son to have the ashes.

Lester channeled that grief and pain into making sure this asshole Bill got as much of the punishment he deserved. He knew that evil man wouldn't suffer enough but Lester would try his hardest. Lester called Ranger and his uncle for help. Ranger joined and they did surveillance for 3 weeks. Learning his routine. Where did he stop for gas? Where did he food shop? Did he have friends? He was able to gather pictures and proof to have him charged with Stolen Valor. He hired a private medical examiner to check out his mom's medical records and death certificate since what was on the certificate did not match what the Doctors had said to Lester. That medical examiner was able to get the accidental death changed to suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. A forensic analysis was done on Bill's computer and during the trial, Lester was able to have the lawyer present all the evidence he had gotten. That piece of shit Bill is sitting in Marion correctional institution for the rest of his natural life. It doesn't bring back Lester's mom but it helps him focus his grief and guilt for not doing all he felt he should have to try and stop the relationship. Scamming others is one of Lester's biggest triggers and he knew he had to stop this employee like yesterday.

Trying to break up the complete silence, Tank leaned back in his chair looked at everyone and spoke his thoughts. "Bomber I know you did a background check but I would like to do another one. I know you only had last night so I ask that you spend your shift on only this.. I want financials, medical records and aliases. Whatever you can think of, we want it." Taking out his phone, he hit 5 and pressed the speaker. "Hector are you busy? Can you come up to conference room 2? Thanks."

2 minutes later Hector walked in with a file and his laptop. "I am going to guess this has to do with helping Steph last night." Five heads nodded In agreement.

"I did a little digging of my own last night when I got home. It turns out Edward or his nickname Loki has been doing this for the last 10 years. He changes the names on his social media. He befriends strangers online in specific groups that benefit him. He panders to them based on the posts in the group. He claims anything from poverty to his kids having no food in the house. He doesn't have kids. From what I gathered he would read the stories of others who battle certain illnesses. He does a little research and takes bits and pieces of their story to create his sob story"

I heard a growl and was pretty sure it was Lester.

I signed and wondered out loud "How do we stop him and make sure he's unable to do this again."

Ranger pinched the bridge of his nose and went straight into planning mode.

"I want a tracker on his personal vehicle. Who's his partner? Since men who are here for a year or less are partnered with someone who has more experience, I want to talk to his partner. See if he's opened up at all to him. Hector, can you attach a tracker today while he's out with a fleet vehicle"?

" You got it Jefe." Hector saluted his boss and nodded to the rest of us as he left the room.

"Babe can you go back through the list of people who donated and cross reference? Let's see if we have any that donated on his previous go fund me and angel link thinking it was a completely different person. I agree with Tank. A deep dive into his finances and his various social media accounts is where we will find the majority of the evidence. Bobby can you pull all the physicals we have from him since we're his medical proxy. Please find out if we're missing any reports. Let's meet back here at 5 and see what we have all uncovered. Babe and Santos, please stay behind after the meeting."

We all gave an acknowledgment that we understood our tasks. Tank and Bobby left leaving the 3 of us in the conference room.
