Record 5 - Fighting!
— July 4th 2016 — 5 am — Pentwin- Hopps - (4 months later of Judy's first day)
A shrill alarm began to sound, lighting up the room. In just 3 rings, a paw reached out and turned it off.
- Monday again... Time to make the world a better place...
The officer jumped up, grabbed her sport suit, ready to leave, looked at her cell phone and smiled a little.
- I don't think a message can hurt.
— July 4th 2016 — 5 am — Third bedroom north wing - ZPA
With his curtain completely closed, enjoying a good nap, a red fox, in a fetal position, was resting deeply in his bunk, the bottom bunk.
Following the instructions of what he hoped would be his next partner, he had stayed up all night studying the manual, but where he disobeyed her was the part about: "But make sure you go to sleep early, it's not my place to tell you why."
- Wake up you slackers! - The deep voice of a female polar bear and her whistle woke them all up. - 5 o'clock in the morning, come all of you with me.
An entourage of zombies got up as best they could, and followed their instructor. Cadet Wilde got up as soon as he could, but froze on the spot, hearing the ringtone designated to the doe.
Carrots:
Have a good first day, sly, good luck, you'll need it!... ;)
- Carrots naive, the little one thinks I need luck.
— July 4th 2016 — 5:15 am — Park
After an effective warm-up, the doe began to run around the park near her home, enjoying the cool summer morning, watching as the first rays of sunlight appeared in front of her, seeing other mammals running alongside her, and a small group further away practicing yoga. She exhaled deeply and smiled.
- I love jogging in the mornings! There's nothing better than starting the day by exercising!
— July 4th 2016 — 5:15 am — Running track- ZPA
- I can't… feel… my legs… - Cadet Hipoz groaned as he struggled to stay awake.
- So this was cottontail rabbit's little surprise!
Incredibly, the fox was in the best condition in this test, the polar bear looked at him without showing her astonishment.
- Nicholas Wilde... We'll see how long it takes you to break you.
— July 4th 2016 — 6:15 am — Pentwin- Hopps
Judy enjoyed a revitalizing shower, enjoying the cool water and its aromatics.
Once clean, the doe put on her uniform, looked at herself in the mirror... stopped her gaze on her badge and put her paw on it.
- One more day, just one, I promise. - She said almost in a whisper.
— July 4th 2016 — 5:15 am — River- ZPA
- Since you all suck...it's shower time! Female Trunkers, you first!
The elephant and only female of the group looked at the icy river with surprise, while her companions awaited their turn with trepidation.
The elephant sighed and jumped, surprising everyone.
- What are you waiting for? An invitation? Now you Wilde!
- Why the hell did I listen to the doe! - He chided himself, as he felt his limbs freeze deep in the river.
— July 4th 2016 — 6:30 am — Starbulls
- I would like a carrot muffin, and a small decaffeinated moka. Thank you.
- In a moment. - The zebra gave her a smile and handed her her order. - Just a moment... Aren't you Officer Hopps? The one from the night howler case?
The gray ears began to lower, feeling the gaze of everyone present on her, after the girl's scream.
- Ehm... yes, but I have to go, thank you!
Without even letting her give her change, Judy left as soon as she could and made her way to the station.
- That was close - she relaxed a bit, until she noticed that she only had the muffin on her paw. - Great... it will be with water! - She chided herself.
— July 4th 2016 — 6:55 am — Showering Area- ZPA
The shortest cadet in the group arrived exhausted at the showers. He began to feel the hot water running over his body and finally smiled.
- Exactly... that's what I needed!
But his happiness was short-lived; a few seconds later, the water began to run as cold as the river. The fox gave a startled yelp, put on his clothes and quickly got out.
- You were his victim too, eh?
Hearing a male voice, but somewhat shrill, Nick turned to look and found a smiling buffalo.
- I don't think anyone was spared. I'm Nick...
- Wilde, right, everyone knows you at Zootopia, the 50% of the team that stopped Bellwether.
- Someone's well-informed, huh. - He gave a somewhat sheepish smile to the boy in front of him, his naivety told on that he was even a little younger than Judy.
- Yes, it was amazing how you disarmed her plan! You are a hero to me!
- Relax, take a breath, it was Hopps who did the job, I actually got in her way a lot...
— July 4th 2016 — 6:55 am — ZPD
The doors of Precinct 1 opened wide, trying to go unnoticed, Judy entered at a slow pace, looking at the animals around her, always all running.
- Hey Judes! Good morning! - The cheetah receptionist greeted her cheerfully, startling her a little.
- Hey Ben! How are you doing?
- Since I've been reinstated at the front desk, everything's fine! I'm a little sad for Officer Rhinons, but he's very grumpy.
- Totally agree... well - She cleared her throat. - If all is well, I'd better get back to my cubicle.
- No Judy, wait, Bogo...!
But the call from the chubby officer couldn't stop her, she walked almost running as fast as she could, until she saw the door to her cubicle and breathed a sigh of relief.
- It was close...
- Hopps, what the hell are you doing here? - The chief's deep voice almost made the bunny's heart explode.
- Sir, I was about to start work and...
- Enough of your report about the nighthowler case. You had three weeks and it is quite complete now, come to the meeting.
- To the Bullpen, sir?
- Unless you want us to go to my house... Well, sure and quick!
- Yes, Chief. - She said getting into high gear. - Damn... I thought I...
Suddenly she saw the huge door in front of her, she remembered her first bullpen four months ago, the day that changed her life forever. - I can do it...
She took a last sigh to give herself courage, and walked through the door. All the officers were chattering away, until she started to walk through the door.
Suddenly, all the officers' eyes focused on her, an uncomfortable silence filled the room, which ended with the entrance of the chief.
- Andersen, Snarlov, patrol in Tundratown. Pennington and Trunkaby, I want you to finish your reports, you're late, Grizzoli and Hopps, I want you to patrol Savanna central and...
- Chief... Hopps and I? I can't work with Fangmeyer and Delgato on our pending case?
- Oh excuse me Officer, I didn't know you knew better than me how to do my job, if you want to go ahead and lead the meeting.
If the place was silent before, it was even worse now.
- I'll get my patrol, sir.
- And take the seat for Hopps. Dismissed!

Recording - Hopps 1-E
Well, it's 7am and I officially proved what I feared, everyone in the precinct hates me... I ruined lives, jobs... now no one will want to trust me... and besides Nick and his big fox heart... no one will trust me or forgive me, I know that. I wouldn't either. I just hope Nick is doing better than I am.

— July 4th 2016 — 7:55 am — ZPA's training ground
The sun was barely peeking out and the sergeant was in the midst of her new cadets. She loved the suffering faces of the first day.
- Let's see who are this year's fresh meat...one, two, three...only eleven this time, well, you have my full attention then.
As you know, Zootopia is divided into 12 ecosystems, you don't know which one you will be working in, so you must be prepared, or you will be dead... the first test of the day is Scorching Sandstorm. Come in when I call your name:Trunkers 1, Trunkers 2.
Two elephants, a male and a female, who looked like twins, began to run, sinking little by little into the sand.
- You two are dead! - Shouted the bear. - Hipoz!
The hippopotamus took a step and immediately sank into the sand.
- Dead! They sent me only useless cadets this year! Javan, Sumatra, go on!
The two rhinoceroses took firm steps, managing to advance a little.
- At last something promising. Cadet B, Wilde, your turn.
…
Recording - Wilde 1-E
I swear that at that moment I could hear Carrots's voice, whispering in my ear how she managed to pass this test, I totally kept it in my memory, "dodge, dodge, anchor and move fast"... unlike her, I will pass all the tests with excellence and break all her records, that Fluff will cry for my performance.

…
- You're dead fluffy butt! - The major screamed while Nick landed on the sand, for the tenth time.
…
Recording - Wilde 2-E
Well, sand and heat have never been my thing, but surely, in the other tests I will be the rightful king, precinct 1, there goes your first fox!

…
- 1,000- foot fall! - Nick rushed forward among his companions, only to be nearly crushed by the elephant. - You're dead Slick fox!
…
Frigid ice wall - Major announced to her terrified cadets. Nick tries to advance, only getting to fall into the icy water. - You're dead pawpsicles boy!
…
- Enormous criminal - Nervous, the fox looked at his next opponent, and although he tried to use his cunning as a weapon, the rhino's experience brought him down hard against the net. A group "uh" from his companions was heard. - You're dead red boy!
…
Recording - Wilde 3-E
What the hell is going on with mammals training future police officers! First Carrots and now this crazy bear! It will be a miracle if she doesn't kill me by the end of the day... Just for surviving this, I should have been more respectful to Hopps when I met her... yes, she is a real cop. I hope she is having a better day, mine sucks!

— July 4th 2016 — 2:55 pm — Savanna Central's main street
The patrol car stopped in front of the most famous fast food restaurant in town, Buga King, the wolf turned off the car and looked at his uncomfortable co-pilot, even more uncomfortable.
- I'll go get something to eat... uh... you want to come?
- Oh, don't worry, I have to go eat with a friend, I'll see you in an hour!
The bunny tried to smile and left the patrol car, walking aimlessly, just to release her stress, until a notification brought a smile to her face.
Slick Nick:
You're a liar, pretty bunny! Everything was like eating a delicious blueberry cake for your sly fox!
Hardly had the fox put away his cell phone when the answer rang.
Carrots:
DON'T USE THE "C" WORD! ¬¬
So you're assuring me that I can save you a seat in the Bullpen? Because in case you didn't know, I still have a contact with Friedkin, and something tells me that it differs with your perception of the facts... XD
Judy walked into Pred Salads and ordered the smallest one in the place, laughing as she watched a new message appear.
Slick Nick:
Ok, ok, maybe I wasn't the best, but I'm sure that I'm not the worst, all that mammals are just… well, worse than you, so, imagine!
Carrots:
jar, jar, jar. So… Do you want a friendly bet? :)
Slick Nick:
Surprise me…
Carrots:
Well my dum box, you'll have to wait. Remember, we promised, not chatting during training/service.
Slick Nick:
Wait a minute… Am I YOUR dumb fox? ( ‾ʖ̫‾)
Carrots:
You know what I mean… anyw, see you, MuzzleTime, 9 pm.
Well, well... that doe goes fast! - The fox began to laugh as he put away his cell phone.
- Wilde, get your furry ass over here right now! - The Major screamed.
- Coming Ma'am!
Judy sighed as she finished her salad. She put the phone away and set about finishing her shift.
- Only about four more hours, Hopps, you can do it, fighting!
— July 4th 2016 — 9:05 pm — MuzzleTime
And fortunately for the future partners, the day came to an end. In their eagerness to earn a spot in the precinct, Judy covered an extra half shift, while Nick stayed on to train overtime, wanting to hide it from each other, they put on their best faces when it came time for the long-awaited call.
- Hey you! Oh You got the ZPD blue t-shirt! - The rabbit appeared on the screen of his friend's phone.
- Oh yes, it is the latest fashion trend! I'm a sexy cop now!
- Oh sure… except because you aren't a cop, yet, you're a cadet and about the sexy thing… Maybe a female fox can explain to you why you are wrong.
- Jar, jar, very funny Carrots! And tell me, How bad was your day? A total mess or just another psychotic mammal?
- Oh, actually it was a cool day, pretty quiet and boring.
- Oh yeah? And if it was so boring and quiet... Why have you just arrived? still wearing your uniform, your tired eyes and droopy ears?
- Well future detective, you got me... Finally I finished the paperwork, back on patrol, and even got a training partner.
- That sounds good, don't get too used to him, eh!
- Of course not!
- But?
- All the officers treat me strangely and uncomfortable. They stop talking if they see me, they sit far away, today patrolling with that wolf was terribly uncomfortable!
- What do you think is going on?
- The usual... that stupid conference...
- Still haven't written your speech for your public apology?
- No... I'm terrified! What if I screw it up? What if I hurt people again... what if...
- Enough with the "what ifs...". You realize you're afraid of something you don't know will happen?
- I'd hate for it to happen... again...
- Listen Carrots, just speak from the heart, that's what made me forgive you, see your sincerity and understand that we all make mistakes. Just let them see who you really are, and believe me, they will love you.
- Do you really believe that?
- Cadet's word! - He winked at her friend and laughed a little with her.
- Okay, enough about me, what about you? How horrible was your day?
- Well you were right... I got beaten to a pulp...
- Oh no! I told you...
- But still... After an elephant, I came in second place.
- Excellent Nick! At that rate you will be valedictorian without a doubt!
- And not only that, my bunkmate and I are friends! His name is Eddy! He's great... even though he's a mess!
- Really? Tell me about it!
…
Recording - Hopps 2-E
Sometimes you just need a friend, someone to listen to you and reset everything! I am thankful to have Nick, being here alone, going through all this at the beginning, was very hard... Without realizing it, we talked for almost three hours, but I was finally inspired.

. . .
The precinct was packed with reporters, taking pictures, and waiting for the heroine of Zootopia to see what she had to say, hopefully she'd say the wrong thing again.
The first female rabbit officer sighed, looked at her audience and a huge fear almost came over her, she shook her head and smiled.
- Just let them see who you are. - She said to herself.
- And so I yield the floor to Officer Hopps. - Bogo motioned to her and stepped up to the podium.
- First of all, thank you all for being here and... Am I totally terrified and nervous? Yes, yes I am.
A few chuckles echoed around the place, while a proud fox listened to her as he did his morning jog.
- But I'm not nervous about your presence, I'm nervous about me, about what I might say.
Words are powerful, they can be sharp and lethal weapons, and that is a very expensive lesson that both you and I learned a few months ago.
First of all, I want to apologize to each and every one of the predators, I spoke unfairly, without solid evidence, I complicated their lives and families, I did to them what they did to me for years, and I understand that there is no forgiveness for that.
I just want you to know that I really don't think that of you or anyone else. That case showed us that evil and goodness are individual things, not a species thing. I want to take advantage of this mistake to invite you to be a better mammal than I was, give predatory mammals a chance to surprise you, one changed my life and opened my mind. We have the power to restore everything and start from scratch and better, and I want to give my word that I will protect and serve you as long as I have life, since that is why I came to the city. I hope you can forgive me and that we can make that change together. Thank you.
About to go down, almost running away and wiping away some tears, the rain of applause stopped her in her tracks. She looked around and saw her boss give her a thumbs up and what the officer could swear was a smile.
- That 's my bunny! You did it Carrots! - The fox stopped jogging, enjoying the sun in front of him.
Judy sighed, and walked to the Bullpen, determined to face what the day had in store for her, but when she opened the door, what was inside, she would never have expected.
- Surprise! - shouted all her companions, even Bogo.
- I don't understand... What is this? My birthday is in February.
- Hello Officer Hopps... this breakfast is our way of... apologize to you. - Francine stepped forward.
- Apologize? But I'm the one who should...
- Of course not! We failed you on your first day, we underestimated you, we pushed you aside, we even made fun of you when you had already solved everything. - McHorn hung his head in shame.
- And what's worse, instead of giving you comfort after the conference, we pushed you aside again. - Delgato looked at her with regret.
- What we want you to know is that now you have a group, a team and you are part of it... Welcome Officer Hopps.
Tears appeared, wetting her gray fur. Each officer came forward to give her a hug, or as much as they could. Judy, at last, felt at home.
To be continued…
