Chapter 6
The Grand Border
In the Warp, many ships of the Imperium are traveling to the galactic west in search of the new solar systems that have been hidden for untold millenniums. They are in search of more resources, new people to indoctrinate into the Imperium, and most importantly, acquire archeotech. They spent an unknown amount of time traveling through a dimension that is chaotic, horrible, and full of daemons. The combine fleet are getting closer and closer to where this great treasure is. But there are some problems.
"I'M SO FUCKING BORED OUTTA ME GOURD!" Leman Russ screams out his frustrations and boredom in the flagship. "Wolf's teeth, this is a long trip!"
Roboute Guiliman approaches, "I know, brother, I know. As a matter of fact, we all know." He is just as bored as Leman.
Magnus teleports, "You can say that again. We've played all the video games and board games in the fleet, bashing a few daemons that managed to get on our vessels, and singing whatever sound that we can found." Magnus is just as bored as everyone else and want some action. "Fuck, I've read every book that there is."
Kitten approaches, "Sorry, my lords, but some of the ships are reporting their reliquaries have been broken into and robbed."
Everyone look at Magnus.
Magnus is offended, "Don't look at me!"
Aboard the Silverback ship, many of them are pounding their chests and making gorilla sounds.
One of them go, "Hooha hoohaha!"
Translation: "Who the fuck broke into our reliquary?!"
On the Ice Dragons ship, many members of this chapter are in an icy room with icicles danging from above.
One of them goes, "HEY! Someone broke into our reliquary and robbed us!"
"How!?" says the Cryomancer (Librarian), "It is locked up and entombed in layers upon layers of ice! If it's the damn Blood Ravens, I swear by the blood of Vulkan!"
"But how did they rob us when we're in another ship!? In the Warp!?"
Aboard the Blood Ravens ship, Captain Godfrey looks over the large collection of various objects that have been collected.
One marine approach, "Pardon me, Captain, but shouldn't we stop taking artifacts of other chapters? Because we now have the identity of our Primarch and don't really need to steal anymore to discover who he is."
Godfrey whines, "But knowledge is power!"
The marine sighs, "I know. But that's not our motto anymore because of our new Chapter Master, Gabriel Angelos."
Then we cut back to the Primarchs (and Kitten).
Guiliman says, "At least anything is better than listening to Corvus' poems. They're more depressing."
Everyone shivers at the though.
Magnus speaks, "In any case, we should get there soon and - AHHHH!" He screams in pain, "My head!"
Leman growls as he place his hand on his head, "What is that?!"
Red lights of the ship start blaring as they hear an announcement, "EMERGENCY. EMERGENCY. EMERGENCY EXIT OF THE WARP."
All the ships come out in real space while they make a screeching sound as they stop.
Kitten gets on the vox, "What is happening?"
The captain of the ship replies, "Something is blocking our warp traveling capabilities!" She sounds worried. "Our Navigators are in great pain along with our Astropaths! Something is blocking all telepathic communications and the Librarians suddenly fall into a coma!"
"That can't be good." Corvus appears. "That would explain why my head feels like a thousand needles poking deep into my cortex. And I lost my shadow abilities."
Magnus is suffering from a massive migraine. "Can we at least see where we are?"
"Let's head to the bridge." Kitten says as he walks to it.
They all enter the bridge as the crew and captain bow before them. So too Primarch Rogal Dorn, Jaghatai Khan, and the three Stripstodes. They all look outside and see a humongous asteroid field in front of them.
"What the hell?" Jaghatai says as they all look upon a huge wall of rock that is blocking their path.
This particular asteroid field stretches for what looks like light years in the void. On the other side, they see a cluster of stars just beyond. Barely visible in view.
"This is quite a lot of rock in the way." Magnus says with an ice-pack on his head. "Can't believe this is on the edge of the galaxy."
"It is quite impressive." says Rogal. "A collection of rocks that stretches far beyond that had stand perfectly still for untold millenniums. Completely undistrurb, unmine and never been seen. A natural beauty that is unfathomable and almost impossible. Yet here we are now, on the edge of the galaxy. Astonished by the impossible."
Custodisi says, "That is quite impressive speech, Lord Rogal."
Karstodes isn't impressed, "I think it would be better if we can mine all of these in a giant factorum."
Corvus says to Rogal, "To be honest, I was surprised at you, brother. Looks like there is hope for you in the literal arts yet."
"I appreciate it, brother."
Auspex has detected something, "My lords. I'm detecting something among the rock."
Many of the asteroids move away and see something that is spherical in shape that is glowing purple. It looks like a ball that looks to be a mile long in radius as it spins in random directions, discharge static and covered in strange runes.
"What is that?" Guiliman sees the object but don't know what it is.
Magnus say, "Whatever it is, it is the source of this painful headache I'm having."
"How atrocious!" says Wamuudes, "The color is just dreadful!"
"Indeed." says Karstodes, "Not to mention the runes. But if it was gold, that would be different and makes it twenty-five percent more appealing."
Kitten speaks, "I think we have bigger problems. That device there is jamming all of our psychic communications and cutting us off from Warp travel."
Leman says, "At least me librarians gain their abilities from the ice storms of Fenris, so I think we're alright. Right?"
There was a cricket noise happening on the ship.
"What?"
"We'll discuss your philosophy later." Magnus then turn his attention towards the object. "We have to destroy the object in order to travel further. Our goal is in sight. We must go through to save the Imperium from impending doom!"
"Do we have a good shot from here?" Kitten asks Auspex.
"Barely, my lord. But I am also detecting some activity in the asteroid field and it is not just that object."
Magnus asks before realizing, "That what the hell is out theeeerreee... Uh-oh."
Out in space, many of the asteroids move aside to reveal large asteroids armed with massive railguns! Twenty of them aim at the ships and are charging up.
Auspex says, "Detecting energy surges from those asteroids! My lords, they're gonna fire at us!"
The captain says, "Initiate void shields!"
The asteroid artillery guns fire at the ships with only one of them being destroyed.
The alarms on the main ship start blaring and shine red as Auspex gives a status report. "We lost one ship! The Judgment of The Emperor's Hand! Three other vessels have reported damage in multiple sections!"
Leman orders, "Open fire!"
The ships of the fleet fire their cannons and missiles at the asteroid artillery stations yet only do minor damage because some of the asteroids are in the way. The asteroid artillery fire another round at the fleet and destroyed one ship with their combine shots.
"Sir!" Auspex shouts, "We lost another ship! Void shields are non-functioning!"
The ship's Vox Hailer says, "My lords! We have multiple contacts coming in! Non-Imperials!"
Coming from the rear, a multitude of different ships come out of the Warp and also do some screeching sounds as they halt. Among the thousands of ships, there are the vile forces of Chaos of the Word Bearers, the relentless Orks of Wazdakka, the frightening Necrons of the Thokt Dynasty, and the endless Tyranids of Hive Fleet Leviathan. However, when they exited out of the Warp, the ships took a moment to recover before firing at each other.
"Ah!" Wamuudes freak out, "We've been taken in the rear!"
Karstodes also freaks out, "This is one spitroast I don't wanna take part of."
"At least they're fighting each other and not us." Kitten points out. "We need to take out that sphere to enter into the Warp again! All ships, concentrate fire on that sphere!"
The fleet fire some of their rounds at the sphere and destroyed it despite some of their munitions didn't make it through.
"It's down! Go go go!"
The Imperium ships entered into the Warp and headed towards their destination.
One of the Orks in the Ork fleet notices, "Oi! Them Imperial boyz 're fleein' like cowardz!"
"Don't matter! We gotz a good fight! Plenty of scrap for everyone!"
Aboard on one of the Chaos vessels, a Chaos Sorcerer of the Word Bearers go, "I can sense the Warp again! I can hear the loving voice of the Gods!"
"Then let us unleash their fury!"
A Chaos Navigator, being hung on chains with many of his innards revealed and spikes protruding from his body, he sees in the blood cauldron.
"The lapdogs of the False Emperor have taken flight! They are heading towards worlds full of such delicious souls untouched by the Gods. WE MUST GO FORTH IN THEIR NAME!"
Ships and monsters on all sides keep on firing with the Chaos fleet trying to follow the Imperium. But a sizeable Tyranid Ancient One block their path as Escort Drones and Boarding Worms attack the vessels. Desolator and Despoiler Class battleships fire their guns and unleash some of their dark powers onto them. This includes the Furies, pestilences of Nurgle, fiery meteors of Khrone, dark energies of Tzeentch along with Tzeentch's Screamers. The two forces clash as an Ork deadnot fires a massive beam of energy at one of the Chaos ships. A Cairn Class Tomb Ship fires at the Ancient One with green bolts of lightning followed by a a round from the sepulchre. One Chaos vessel launched an array of missiles at the ship while it is attacking the Tyranids. The battle rages on as all sides try to claim the route to the new systems while being hammered by the asteroid artillery.
In the Warp, the ships of the Imperium made it as they travel through the chaotic realm.
"That was too close." Kitten says.
"Indeed." Leman agrees. "I don't think our combined fleet can take them all on at once."
Magnus looks at Leman, "At least someone has gain some wisdom."
The Vox Hailer speaks, "My lords! The Navigator is having some difficulties!"
In the chamber of the Navigator. The bald man with his third eye seem to be suffering.
"The Emperor's light is no more! I cannot sense his good graces in the Realm of Chaos! Even more so, we are nearing its end! I sense holes! Holes at the very edge of the Warp!"
Auspex checks, "I'm detecting multiple wormholes up ahead! The Navigator is right. But beyond that, I don't know."
Guiliman says, "Then we should move forward with caution."
"Aye, lord."
Magnus says, "I'm starting to regret ever coming on this trip now."
"So do I, brother." Corvus agrees. "So do I."
The entire fleet enter the various wormholes and ended-up in a completely different kind of space. It looks similar to real space but has a multitude of nebulous gases, stars still being young, and strange ancient technology left to be hung and dry.
In the ships, everyone moan and groan in pain after suffering the effects of going through a wormhole.
"Fuck!" Wamuudes tries to stand up, "I can everything being feeble."
"That was nauseating." Custodisi tries to shake off the dizziness of going through a wormhole. In the Warp.
Karstodes stands up and tries to shake everything off, "Let's not do that again. That was nauseating, terrible, and unfabulous."
"Agreed!" the other two agree.
Magnus suffers the worst, "Gaaaaahhhh! That was the WORST! Let's never do that."
"Oowww." Kitten stands up, "Where are we?"
Auspex checks, "According to my analysis, the place we're in is similar to real space, but not. It's not the Warp either."
Vox Hailer speaks, "Navigators and astropaths have gone into a coma. They said that they lost all connection with the Warp."
"Does that explain the horrible headaches I'm still having?" Magnus asks as he places another ice pack on his head.
Leman says, "Yeah. This place...is weird. Almost as if we're near an army of Blanks."
Vox Hailer also speaks, "I still have communications with the rest of the ships but I'm picking up a multitude of other signals. They're weak, but there is a multitude of them. Almost as if echoes of a long forgotten past still have something to say."
Auspex also says, "Scans indicate that it is safe and we won't need our gellar fields."
The shields that are meant to protect the ship and its crew from the horrors of the Warp are lowered. The outside view can be seen by all as they see this vast new space they're in.
"Crikey." Magnus says to their surroundings.
Corvus speaks, "Isolated. Grim. Lonely. I can make a new home here." Corvus loves the way things look.
Magnus says to Corvus, "At least it is more roomier than the Engine of Woe, right?"
"Yes. An ocean of nothingness in the vast void darkness and gases of the universe. My own cathedral of darkness among the grimdark wreckage of ancients."
Rogal Dorn admires some of the ancient structures, "Those are some impressive and magnificent structures despite their state. Those have probably been around long, long before the Dark Age of Technology. I would like to study them and their architecture when we have the time." Then looks at Corvus, "Speaking of, how would you like your Cathedral of Solitude?"
Guiliman speaks, "Enough. We must push forward to find the new systems in order to save Terra. All ships, move forward."
The whole fleet moves forward into this strange new type of space. The realm they enter through isn't the same as the Eldar Webway or any other known type of space that the Imperium knows. It's almost as if they've entered into something akin to real space, but isn't fully at the same time. If you all are familiar with EVE Online, this is wormhole space. A completely separate form of space that is similar to real space in all its form with various ancient structures from the Sleepers. As such, the fleet moves with caution as they travel through, in silence as tensions rise.
Kitten, broke it, "So any ideas on what was with those asteroids with guns? I thought it was some form of Ork idea, but those were way too sophisticated."
"Indeed they were." Rogal agrees. "They are like the the smaller version of the Attack Moon that nearly destroyed Terra when The Beast threatens."
"Not to mention that device that was used to prevent us from using Warp travel and does a significant damage to our psykers." Guiliman pointed out. "Pretty advance technology."
"You can say that again." Magnus says. "But I cannot sense the immaterium. We are way outside of the boundaries of the Warp. However, I am picking up a few small traces of it. It is feint, but still there. I cannot exactly pinpoint it yet I sense we are getting closer to our destination."
"Where, ye giant, red compass?" Leman asks.
Magnus points to the direction where he senses the source. "Right there. Straight ahead. There might be more of those holes."
"Excellent work, my Magnumuffin!" Custodisi compliments.
"Uhh... Thank you?"
"Might have to take it steady." Jaghatai speaks, "Move fast but move with caution. We're in unknown territory and on our own from this point forward."
So the fleet moves straight where Magnus pointed, which is straight ahead. The ships travel a good distance across a bunch of ruined structures. Corvus has a whole bunch of paper and a pencil out as he tries to make his new poems. Everyone try to ease the tension and suspense by chatting about things like what would the new solar systems will be like. Leman can't wait to fight against any sort of beast and have a collection of teeth to prove his successful hunts. Rogal and Guiliman are more interested in some of the architecture that might be there. Jaghatai prefer to meditate in silence before claiming the heads of any enemies they might come across. Magnus is maintaining contact with the Adeptus Mechanicus about what sort of knowledge would be there as Magos Delphan Gruss is anxious on getting the prize he has been seeking; the Omnicopaeia.
On Terra...
"SIGH." the Emperor types. "IT SURE IS BORING AROUND HERE. I WONDER WHAT MY SONS ARE UP TO BUT I CAN NO LONGER SENSE THEIR PRESENCE. I'M STARTING TO REGRET NOT HAVING THEM HERE. BUT IN ALL HONESTY, IT IS NICE TO HAVE SOME PIECE AND QUIET WITHOUT THE MALE STRIPPERS, MY SONS BICKERING AND THE SUN CAT. ON THE OTHER HAND, I AM STARTING TO MISS THEM. I WOULDN'T TELL THAT TO THEIR FACES THOUGH. REALLY WISH MY OTHER SELF WOULD SHOW UP SO WE CAN SWITCH OUT SO I CAN ENJOY LEADING AGAIN. BUT HE IS AN ASSHOLE THAT REFUSES TO SWITCH WITH ME. I COULD JUST SIT HERE AND CONTEMPLATE ABOUT THE UNIVERSE LIKE THAT ONE NERDY GUY THAT WAS FOREVER STUCK IN A CHAIR BACK IN ANCIENT TIMES, YET HIS CHAIR CAN MOVE. WAIT, I SENSE SOMETHING."
The doors open and Vulkan walks in, "FATHER!" He says in an excited happy voice.
"OH FUCK!" the Emperor types on his text-to-speech device.
"I am so happy to see you again! Even though it took forever to remove the Orks in my skull which resulted in the deaths of many psykers. But now I'm back! Come here and give me a big hug!" Vulkan approaches with his arms stretched out to embrace him.
"FUU-UUU-UUU-UUU-UUU-UUU-UUU-UUU-UUU-UUU-UUU-UUU-UCK! SOMEONE GET ME THE FUCK OUTTA HERE! I INSTANTLY REGRET HAVING COMPANY NOW!"
