In her room, Bo sat chewing a piece of gum while nursing a beer in her hand. Her mind wandered to why Lauren had led her to her location and then all but dismissed her. Then she cooked the woman a few meals. Now the succubus feels like a maid to the doctor and not her girlfriend.
Maybe that's Bo's problem. Thinking they are still a couple. Lauren doesn't even look at Bo the same anymore. Her love for Bo probably died with every kick and slap from Nelson's hands and feet. The doctor thought of the succubus when she used her blood to treat her paralysis. Now, she sat wondering if she's just a walking blood bank in case Lauren wants or needs a fresh supply. "Fuck that." She tossed the bottle into her trashcan and walked out of the room. She walked down the hall and glanced down the staircase. Vivian and Megan weren't there. Her teeth felt cold as she clinched them together. She stopped at Lauren's room and knocked on the door. After a few raps, she didn't get an answer. She turned away and looked around. It was quiet. Too quiet. Had the doctor left again during the night? They had stayed out pretty late. Bo thought of last night too.
Lauren had danced with just about every woman that came near her. She rejected a few men that tried to dance with her. They look just as disappointed as Bo had when Lauren turned her down too. But to the brunette's amusement she hadn't danced with Vivian or Megan either. Megan seemed to be enjoying herself as she danced with no one in particular. But Vivian? Vivian was dancing near Lauren and smiling back at Bo whenever she got the chance. She never invaded the doctor's personal space though. Bo shook her head and ordered another beer. She jumped from her stool when she saw Lauren pull her thick, wet hair over her back and started the short walk to the ladies room.
The doctor smiled and spoke as she walked past a few bar patrons. She took a glass of water and slammed it before handing the glass back to a cocktail waitress. She finally made it to the ladies room and bent over the sink as she splashed some fresh water on her sweaty face. After freshening up with hand soap, she grabbed a few paper towels and washed her face off. "Are you going to speak or just stare?."
"I don't get it, Lauren. Or maybe that's it, you don't want me to get it". Bo jammed her hands into her jean pockets.
"Pardon?". Lauren turned around as she blotted her hair with fresh paper towels.
"Why did you make it so easy for me to find you and then basically treat me like your maid?." Bo asked.
"I know the Fae. I know you. You would not stop hunting me down and I am not going to stop living my life as I want to. Now, if you don't like how you've been treated, as a friend, maybe we were never friends to begin with. You are welcome to leave anytime that you like. I was alive before I met you and I can take care of myself." Lauren's face was hard but gentle. Her voice was firm but not soft.
"I didn't know, Lauren! I didn't know Nelson would come for you. I didn't know Tamsin would openly lie about us!". Bo's temper broke through.
"That doesn't even matter anymore, Bo. I got all I needed out of you, heartbreak. You don't like to be lied to but you certainly don't have issues with lying to us. Dyson. Me. Tamsin. Whomever else is on your radar". Lauren walked forward and waited for Bo to move so she could walk back to the bar area.
Bo stood shaking her head. She walked to the sink and splashed her own face. She's welcome at the bar, but not with Lauren. She doesn't want to be her friend. She wants things back like they were before Lauren broke up with her. Before her damn Dawning. Having to heal with Dyson. All of it.
She stared hard into her eyes. She wanted her succubus to surface. She wanted to see the blue come and leave again. If she is as powerful as she claims, why didn't she see any of this shit coming? Why didn't she get spidey senses or some shit of warning before Nelson beat the hell out of their girlfriend? "Nothing? Okay". Bo rolled her eyes and turned to leave.
After that, they all sat down to eat. Lauren ate quickly, paid their tabs and they all left. The blonde drove herself home, so Bo didn't get another chance to talk with her. Like she wants to right now. She walked towards the stairs and saw Lauren walking up them. She looked sweaty. Bo cringed thinking why since the other succubus weren't at their posts.
"Good morning, Bo". Lauren spoke as she walked by the woman.
"Good morning, Lauren. I was hoping we could talk but it looks like you need a shower". Bo pointed to a soaked towel and the doctor's sweaty body.
"I do. I will be down shortly". Lauren nodded and walked to the nearest bathroom.
Bo threw her hands in the air. Cold. It's still cold between them. She thought about their conversation in the bathroom. Friends. Lauren wants them to be friends. Bo doesn't think she can do that. Hell, she knows she can't.
"Problems with the doctor?". Vivian smiled and turned around at her post at the foot of the stairs.
Bo stomped down and got into the woman's face. "What did you say?".
"I was asking if you have problems with Lauren. You remember Lauren right? The one you cheated on and left to get her ass beat?". Vivian replied.
"I didn't cheat on, Lauren! I needed to heal." Bo spat back.
"Megan, have you ever needed to have sex to heal?". Vivian turned to the woman.
"No but..." Megan started.
"See, we don't always need sex to heal. What makes your almighty succubus so weak?." Vivian smiled.
"I will kill you." Bo stepped closer to the woman.
"No, you won't. Lauren likes me and it kills you. I saw how you looked at us last night. If I wanted to, she would have clung to me as we danced. But I wanted her to enjoy herself. Just like she was mere minutes ago". Vivian folded her arms across her chest.
"What is she talking about?." Bo turned her attention to Megan.
"Lauren was training with us again. Then she went for a long run, privately." Megan replied. She looked at Vivian and shook her head no. She needed to stop this. They have a job to do and she can't be objective if she's falling for Lauren.
"Why? Why doesn't she want to train with me?." Bo looked back and forth between the two of them.
"You will have to ask her that." Megan replied and turned her face forward again.
"You two are dismissed, Lauren and I need to be alone." Bo gestured towards the door.
"We can't leave. We have orders from the Ash and the Morrigan. You can't boss anyone around but your dog". Vivian stood up straight and followed Megan's lead.
"Fine, don't come up these stairs, since you are stuck here." Bo winked and turned back up the stairs.
She felt a little better. She had been dumb about this. If they can't leave their posts, Lauren is available to talk to her. She waited an hour and walked to Lauren's door again. The blonde opened it and Bo was suddenly shy. "Can we talk now?."
"What do you want to talk about Bo? The same thing from last night? I told you, you can leave whenever you want. I will be fine." Lauren shook her head.
"I'm not leaving, Lauren. But I do want to talk. To see what I can do to help you. To find out why you won't train with me, but you will train with them. Why did you really bring me here?". Bo rambled off and took a breath.
"I don't need any help. Your blood is the same as mine, fighting against you won't help me fight again. Our strengths would be too evenly matched. Should I be attacked again, I need to be ready. You will always follow me like I suspect Dyson or Tamsin are doing with you. We are friends. I can't promise you that we will be more than that anytime soon. Take what I said as fact or leave." Lauren left her door open. It wasn't an invitation but it wasn't a denial either.
"I'm wasting my time here, aren't I? That is until you need my blood again." Bo spat and looked horrified when Lauren turned back to her. "Lauren, I'm so, so sorry I said that. My emotions are everywhere because we aren't where I want us to be."
"You thinking I'm treating you like a walking blood bank just knocked us farther and farther away from each other. I don't need your blood. Should I get wounded or deathly ill again, I'd rather die this time." Lauren replied.
"Lauren...". Bo's eyes flared blue and back to brown.
"These are my hands. Everything that I do, I do with them. Them and your blood. You want to know what my training is about? It's about seeing what I can do with your blood inside of me. Seeing what I can and can't heal as a doctor. My career is all I have left. It's all that I know. It's all that I am. It's something the fae could never take from me short of killing me. It's mine." Lauren showed Bo her hands and never broke eye contact with the succubus. "I'm in control of everything. My life. What I do and who I do it with. Besides having Fae protection, I'm all but done with the Fae. Before you say you're Fae, it wasn't an insult. It's just me trying to come into my own. Sooner or later, I will ask them to remove Megan and Vivian from my detail. That is probably weeks away because I know you have Fae that are probably looking for me to make my life hell again."
Bo dropped her head and raised it again. "Nobody is coming for you, Lauren. They aren't your only bodyguards, I am too. I am happy that you have your science to lean on when you can't or couldn't lean on me. Do I want more than friendship with you? Yes. But I won't force you into a relationship. I don't like being just your friend but I can accept it. I just want to help you. Help you eat. Help you sleep. Help you to stay healthy and happy. Even if I am not the cause of your happiness. For the record, you hold me in your hands too. All of me. My life. My future. My world." Lauren sighed and took a seat. "So, what can I do for you, right now?." Bo asked.
"I just want to sit and be quiet, Bo." Lauren answered honestly.
"I can do that". Bo took a seat and sat back. She closed her eyes. The silence is helping her too. Her Succubus finally woke up and is ready to pounce on the doctor. She always does that around Lauren. Especially after they became a couple. It was her succubus that never wanted to feed from Lauren. It is a pure protective love and caring like Bo had never experienced before. She's glad to share that with her nature because she feels it too.
Megan and Vivian.
"They have been in there for some time. You don't think they're in bed, do you?". Megan asked.
"No. Lauren is not ready for that. I read her aura every time I look at her. She's pissed. Not just at Bo but with how awfully she's been treated by the Fae. Surprisingly, she wants nothing to do with the Fae, but keeps us around". Vivian looked over her shoulder and then straight again.
"That's true. When she was training she looked like she was fighting back against something. Fighting towards something too." Megan frowned and turned back to her job.
The Dal
Kenzi walked in. "Still no word?."
"I talked to Hale. As far as he knows everything is tense but everyone is still alive and safe." Trick replied over his shoulder.
Kenzi sighed and took a seat. The old man turned around to the woman. "Go see a movie, Kenzi. Find something to get your mind off of Bo. She's where she wants to be. There isn't anyone holding her hostage."
"I just left the movies. That's what made me think of Bo. It was so graphic and violent. How do we know these Succubus won't attack Bo? How do we know Lauren won't not stop them from attacking Bo? I don't mean physically, I mean emotionally too." Kenzi took a beer and took a small sip.
"Lauren is a doctor, she doesn't believe in fighting. I have never in all of my years seen her swing at anyone. I've known her longer than the two of you. That woman is all science and very little Lauren." Trick walked away to serve another customer.
Kenzi took another drink. As much as she misses Bo, she wonders what Lauren is doing to her. The doctor doesn't understand the depths of Bo's love for her. Although Kenzi had a front row seat to Lauren's love for Bo when the pig Fae attacked. The succubus had thrown her to the ground, and Lauren had to kiss her to get her to let her up. That's how the blonde explained the rip in her jacket after she came down to work on the serum to cure Bo of The Morrigan's curse or whatever the hell it was.
Hale and Evony's meeting.
"This has gone on long enough, I demand in the name of the Blood King, I demand you tell me where Bo and Lauren are!." Dyson screamed.
"This boy has lost his damn mind. We can make your life much, much worse than just you being horny over an absent succubus". Hale eyed the wolf.
"He really has. Lauren is free and Bo is unaligned. Neither of them owe you shit". Evony laughed and held her nose. "Got soap?."
"You rushed into your decision, a human shouldn't have Fae bodyguards. She shouldn't be free. She should be here working in the compounds and in her apartment." Dyson looked back and forth.
"Man, you don't expect to live long do you? Show him the bodies, Morrigan". Hale turned to the woman and watched as she slammed the pictures on a table. "That is what Bo did without Lauren around. We found those bodies twisted and mangled. Bo's succubus obviously has new powers that we never knew about. Now, tell me, can you stop that succubus? Look what she did to this ogre."
"If Lauren comes back, Bo will come back. It's not that hard to understand." Dyson looked at the pictures and shrugged. He'd seen worse during his years on the police force.
"Evony, we need to implement two new laws. The wolf is banned from the compounds and he has the right to be a dumbass". Hale picked up a pen and wrote down what he'd just said. "Now I need your signature." He pushed the paper over to the Morrigan. She signed them and called to have them stamped and approved by the High Council. They know they will be because Dyson has been making new enemies left and right.
The women.
"I'm not eating anything that she cooks." Vivian pointed towards Bo.
"I won't be cooking, Lauren will." Bo laughed and pointed towards the woman scrubbing her arms and hands like she was about to enter an operating room.
"What's going on?". The blonde asked.
"Vivian thought I was about to cook for us. I told her you are." Bo smiled. She can't wait. Lauren has always thrown down when she cooks. Which wasn't on the regular when she was with the Light Fae.
"It won't be a heavy lunch. I want to get back in the field again." Lauren looked the three in their eyes.
"That's fine." All three said in unison.
Lauren got busy and before the three knew it, they were sitting down to eat. Lauren ate faster than any of them. She set her napkin down and drank some water. "Are we ready?." She asked when they seemed to stall finishing theirs.
"Okay". Bo looked up and finished her food. She wasn't trying to be slow, she was just enjoying actually sitting and eating with the doctor.
"I will be back shortly." Lauren stood and left the table.
"What's going on?." Vivian asked.
"I don't know." Bo shrugged.
"Are you sure about that, Bo?." Vivian asked again.
"Look, you don't like me and I don't like the two of you. You asked a question and I answered it, truthfully." Bo's temper was teetering towards full.
"No freaking way!." Megan screamed.
"Is there something wrong?." Lauren asked.
"No, Lauren. Not like this." Bo shook her head.
"I have to be prepared for any eventuality. This will do that." Lauren replied.
"I won't fight you, Lauren. Not like that. Not ever." Bo stood and walked away from the table.
"I'm concerned about why she thinks she needs to fight. What did you do, Bo?". Vivian asked.
"I didn't do anything. But if she's thinking of training blindfolded, you won't be fighting her either." Bo raged at the woman.
"Lauren, what is this about?." Megan asked.
"Wait. It can't be, can it, Lauren?." Bo walked over to the woman.
"It can. I'm ready, and you're going to fight me!." Lauren gripped Bo's neck.
"If you wanted to learn how to thrall someone, sweetie, all you had to do is ask". Bo's brown eyes turned blue.
TBC.
