BPOV
This week has been sheer misery. Felix took me off the morphine, and a physical therapist named Zafrina has been working with me. The stretches have been a godsend, now I can walk around like a human being, yet I'd be lying if I said it wasn't unpleasant.
Adonis gave me two options; to live in this penthouse with him, or to live below him in a different enormous penthouse he owns. Deciding it was best not to bombard Edward's space, I chose the latter. I was adamant to try to move back into my old place, turns out Adonis is just as bullheaded as me.
Edward got my clothes sent over from my apartment. Alice has been assisting me with packing all of it neatly, and also has been throwing away the majority of my clothes because of my "taste". Perhaps Alice isn't comprehending that it takes money to have decent clothing. With that being said, I'm grateful for Alice, she's been an incredible friend to me this week.
Putting my Mom's purple scarf as the last item in the box, "Are you going to help me bring these two boxes down?"
She looks at me, baffled, "The men do that, Bella!"
Nodding dumbly at her, "I'm just excited to get back to work. I'm getting stir-crazy in this room."
"That's because you stay in this room. There are seven thousand more square feet that you've barely seen!"
Inhaling sharply, "Seven thousand? My apartment was 1500 square feet...what theā¦"
A knock on the door broke my revelation, dammit, not who I wished it'd be.
Running over to his wife, he wraps her in a large hug, "I missed you darlin'!"
Alice rejoices, "Jazz, I saw you this morning!" They're made for each other, two balls of energy- "Oh! Bella would like to take these two boxes down to her new digs, can you get someone to help us?"
It physically hurt to stop from rolling my eyes, "Alice-"
"Nope! No excuses. This is now the life you lead, get used to it." I've barely known Edward for two weeks.
Walking to the side table to pick up my medications, I decided to disturb the love bugs, "Is Edward here?"
"Why? Are you both done avoiding each other after the kiss?"
SHIT, "ALICE!"
Grinning at me like the Cheshire cat, "Bella, he's my husband, and you're important to me now. I had to ask Jasper for advice on the situation."
Sighing, "Jasper, we aren't avoiding each other. He's come by every evening to say goodnight. Anyway, I have to ask him about my living arrangements."
With his arm still tucked behind Alice, "He's here, probably in his office. That guy never stops working..."
Deciding to venture out into the world of the penthouse, I stepped out of the room and was immediately hit with how spectacular it was. Everything was bright white, with contrasting gray marble floors. The guy even lives like a Greek God.
Taking the first left turn out of the room, I walked down a hallway that opened into a colossal living space. A gorgeous off-blue sectional sofa sat in the middle of the room, with a crystal, (hopefully not real), coffee table in front of it. The room couldn't be completed without the monstrous television that was perched on the wall. Everything was sleek, yet also refined, which reminded me of Edward.
Continuing my walkthrough, I reached beautiful white double doors. Double doors, this is probably the office.. Right? Big mistake.
Knocking lightly on the door, I heard no reply. Feeling brave today, I decided to peep my head in. That's when I saw an absolutely flawless 5'9'' blonde, with the body of a model, except for the good parts which were curvy. This woman is the perfect specimen for a man and she's in Edward's room with him. She's standing with her arms crossed, looking at Adonis who stands in front of her.
Not meaning to listen, I overhear parts of their conversation, "This is dangerous, Edward. You don't even know who she is. Did you know her Father is the Chief of Police in Forks, WA? I know it's some podunk town, but this puts all of us in a threatening situation."
"Are you questioning me, Rose? Seriously?" He mutters.
She places her hand on his shoulder and strokes lightly, "You know I love you, but this is one of the dumbest decisions you've made."
Does she love him?
My ears began to ring, my signal that anxiety would soon take over. My breathing hitched, and I gently closed the double doors. Fight, flight, or freeze. I decide on flight.
Running to the guest room, I grab one box that holds clothing and scuttle to the elevator. Tears began to blur my vision as I stepped into the metal enclosure, pressing the lobby button on repeat. My guess is that Alice and Jasper headed home because those two never stop talking and can usually be heard if they're nearby. The steel doors close, and I'm staring at myself in the mirrored doors on the way down.
My hair is down, mostly to cover the healing bruise on my face. I'm in blue jeans and a brown long-sleeve sweater with a camisole poking out from underneath. My shoes are still my ratty Converse, and my jeans have a few holes from being overworn. No wonder he chose Aphrodite. How could I have been dumb enough to think he would care about me at all?
Hailing a taxi, I jump in with my box, thinking of the best place to go. If I go to my old place, Edward will find me. Deciding it's time to leave Chicago, I call Charlie, my Dad.
It takes three rings, "Bells! How are you, kid?"
My eyes begin to overflow, "I'm okay, Dad."
"Bells. I can hear it in your voice, what's going on?"
Taking a cathartic deep breath, "I want to come home, Dad."
Charlie's quiet for a moment, "Want or need?"
Tears stream down my cheeks, "Need."
Charlie sighs, "I'll get you on the next flight out. I love you, Bells."
"I love you too, Dad."
After telling the cab driver to take me to O'hare, I sit and weep while looking at the city of Chicago surrounding me. It'll be better this way.
It has to be better this way.
