Black and blue streaks dash between artillery barrages and machine gun fire, sweeping up a trail of mud and dirt at near supersonic speed as they draw nearer to a massive tower.

At the top of the tower, staring out of a grand observation platform, a tall man in red holds a radio communication device to his snarling lips. "EGG PAWNS! DESTROY THOSE INTRUDERS!"

Concentrated fire has the two blurs taking evasive movements, but they are already about to reach the entrance.

"Shadow! You take care of Eggman's robots out here! I'm going in!" Yells Sonic. Shadow slows and stops at the entrance while Sonic dashes through. The steel door closes behind him, cutting them off from each other.

"Reckless hedgehog." Shadow mutters, turning around to face the approaching army of Egg Pawns.

Several speakers around the base echo with the sound of microphone distortion, clearing up after a few seconds. "OHOHOHO!!! If it isn't Sonic and Shadow! How nice of you two to drop by! I hope my robots gave you a warm welcome!" Eggman announces.

Sonic dashes through the inside of Eggman's base, attacking the orange robots designed in Eggman's image. "Heh! Nothing we couldn't handle, Egghead!" he exclaims in reply, a cocky grin plastered on his face.

Once again, Eggman guffaws. "OHOHO! Well, I'm afraid you two are too late! I have all the Chaos Emeralds and my ultimate weapon is almost ready!"

Sonic turns on his communicator and tunes it into Tails' frequency. "Hey, buddy! How much time do we have!?"

"Not long! I can't hack into his computer and disable his weapons system!" Tails exclaims. "You've got maybe two minutes, at the most!"

Hearing this, Sonic stops attacking the robots and begins running as fast as he can towards the stairwell. "Damn!" he shouts. "I got no time to lose!"

Shadow is taking cover. He is being overwhelmed by gunfire, and he only has a few bullets left in his pistol. He brings out his own communicator and calls Rouge. "Damn it, Rouge, I'm a sitting duck here! Where the hell is Omega!?" He yells, taking out another robot with a careful shot.

Rouge's voice blares out over the communicator, filled with adrenaline. "Shadow! I'm almost there! Stay alive, dammit! I'm going in!"

Shadow growls.

"We don't have time..." he says to himself. He tunes into Tails' frequency.

"Shadow? What's going on?" Tails says.

The black hedgehog barks into the device. "I know we don't have long, but you need to pick me up! I can't take down all of the robots without a Chaos Emerald!"

Sonic bursts through a barrier into Eggman's control room. "Where are you, Eggman!?"

The sound of Eggman's laughter fills the room as he steps out from behind a computer terminal, a large laser pistol in his hand. "Oh, don't worry, you little rodent. I'm not going to leave you in suspense." He grins, aiming the gun at Sonic. "You're going to stay right there, like a good hedgehog, while I activate my GREATEST INVENTION!"

"Not if I can help it!" yells someone from the vent above. Tunnelling down through the ceiling, a red Mobian lands directly onto Eggman, knocking him off his feet.

"KNUCKLES! YOU PEST!" Eggman screams, swiping at the red echidna with futility.

Sonic quickly grabs Eggman's gun and tosses it far across the room. "You're done, Eggman! We're taking you straight to the G.U.N."

"...ohoho... hehehehe! AHAHAHAHA! So, you think you've won, Sonic? Remember, I'm the bad guy! I play dirty!" Eggman yells, taking out a remote with a red button, pressing it. A large machine raises up from the floor, practically oozing Chaos energy. "In a few seconds, we will be taken to another world! Say goodbye to Mobius, Soni-"

The Tornado smashes through the observation window, throwing Tails and Shadow out of their seats and into the middle of the room.

"SONIC!" Tails exclaims, running to his friend. Shadow senses the Chaos energy emanating from the machine.

"Doctor! What have you done!? With this much energy, the entire planet will be destroyed!" Shadow yells, running towards Eggman and pulling his pistol out from his quills.

"Shadow! No! Stop!" Sonic cries.

"You won't get away this time, Eggman!" Shadow yells, raising his pistol.
