"Well? Sam…have you located him?" Lucifer asked as the chief demons cautiously approached him.
"I'm sorry, Sam, we…well…the Winchesters haven't been spotted. They must be staying low key."
"Well, that is disappointing," Lucifer stated. He sighed and then snapped his fingers and the demon turned to ash and then was gone.
"You…you…you killed him," the other chief demon stuttered nervously.
"Find him…don't disappoint me again," he spat out in anger.
The demon turned and left the room leaving Lucifer alone.
"Sammy where are you?" Lucifer asked out loud and then he felt him. Sam had just fallen asleep. Lucifer didn't know why, but he had always seen Sam's dreams since the boy was five months old. He could even control the dream if he wanted, although he never had before, but now it was his chance to not only see Sammy, but to talk to him.
Sam was dreaming about Jessica. Lucifer could see him so clearly as he took on the persona of Jessica in the dream. Sam was sitting up on bed. Lucifer could see the toll of the stress that the boy was under and it broke his heart, but it had to be this way. It just had to be.
"How long are you going to hide? You can't stick your head in the sand forever," Lucifer stated as he brushed his hand across Sam's forehead, brushing his hair out of his eyes.
"I love you Jess, but you're wrong, people can change. I have reason to hope," Sam stated as he turned his back on Lucifer.
Lucifer wished for a small moment that the words he spoke were to him, not Jessica. He would give up almost anything to be the one that Sam loved, but he couldn't have that, at least not now.
"No Sam, there isn't," Lucifer answered. He reached out with a longing desperation, stroking Sam's hair as he dropped the facade of being Jessica and was himself.
"How can you be so sure?" Sam asked.
"Because you freed me," Lucifer answered honestly.
Sam jumped out of bed and put some distance between them as he realized that he hadn't been talking to Jessica after all.
"You know who I am?" Lucifer asked.
"Lucifer," Sam stated.
"You are a hard man to find Sammy, harder than most humans."
"It's Sam, Dean's the only one that gets to call me Sammy," Sam stated as he took a step backwards.
Lucifer felt pangs of jealousy…he really didn't like how close Sam was to his brother.
"I don't suppose you would just tell me where you are," Lucifer stated.
"What do you want from me?"
Everything, Lucifer thought, but instead answered, "I walk the Earth because of you. I want to give you a gift."
"I don't want anything from you," Sam stated.
"Nick here is just plan B, but you are my true Vessel," Lucifer informed Sam.
"No," Sam stated as a look of horror crossed his face.
"Yes," Lucifer stated.
"That will never happen."
"I'm sorry, but it will. I will find you and when I do, you will let me in."
"I will kill myself before I let you in"
Lucifer felt a twist of pain at the thought of his Sammy dead. It's something that he could never let be. Lucifer felt as if his very own existence was tied to that of Sam. "I would bring you back, again and again until you realize that you were made for me. My heart breaks for you…if there was some other way, but there isn't. I will never lie to you. I will never trick you, but you will say yes to me."
"You're wrong."
"I'm not. I know you better than you know yourself."
"Why me?"
"Because it had to be you Sam. It always had to be you.," Lucifer stated and then his connection ended as Sam woke up.
Lucifer sighed, feeling lost and alone. His father had once asked him to love mankind more than him and he fell because he didn't think it possible, but now with Sam…his feelings for the boy was stronger than any he had ever felt before. He loved Sam…he knew that, he could feel it, but the boy would never return the feelings.
