Free Will*

"You're sleeping in Castiel's arms again?" Lucifer asked as he scowled. He had just walked into Sam's dream.

"Don't be jealous. Cas misses Dean and I'm here with you. I'm meeting Dean in the morning so hopefully he will come back soon." Sam said and then he kissed Lucifer.

"Do you think Dean has forgiven you?"

"I'm not sure, but I hope so."

"I hope so too for your sake, I don't want to see you hurt again. Our connection is getting stronger. Can you feel the exhilaration from the spark of our bond?" Lucifer asked as he grabbed Sam's hand.

"Being with you, it feels like I've finally found a place where I belong. A home to call my own," Sam said as he led Lucifer to his bed.

"I feel the same way Sammy. I've waited for you for a long, long time," Lucifer stated and then kissed Sam again.

XOXOXO

Lucifer ran his fingers through Sam's hair as Sam laid in his arms. He curled his massive wings around them both, like a feathered blanket.

"What do you think is wrong with my soul?" Sam asked as he tilted his head so he could look into the eyes of his dark Angel.

"What?" Lucifer asked as he stoped playing with Sam's hair.

"Cas told me that you questioned him about my soul," Sam explained.

"Of course he did," Lucifer stated as he scowled again.

"Cas is my best friend. He tells me everything, but that's besides the point. Why were you questioning Cas? What do you think is wrong with my soul?" Sam asked again.

"Nothing is wrong with your soul, it's just different than most humans. Your soul has more power then it should," Lucifer explained.

"The demon blood," Sam whispered as if he was releasing a dirty secret.

"No, the demon blood should have no impact on your soul."

"Then what is it?"

"I don't know Sammy. I thought I knew, but my theory was wrong, but I Promise that I will not rest until I figure it out," Lucifer promised.

"I need you to tell me what it is when you find out. Good or bad, I need to know," Sam said.

"Of course," Lucifer stated.

Sam looked into Lucifer's face. The burn marks on Nick's skin was getting bigger. "Does it hurt?" Sam asked.

"Does what hurt?" Lucifer asked.

"This?" Sam asked as he traced his fingers around one of the burns.

"No, I've muted the pain, but Nick's wearing a bit thin. He can't contain me forever, and it's taking most of my strength just to keep him from going supernova," Lucifer explained.

"Does Nick feel any pain?" Sam asked.

"I've muted his pain as well, in fact I've muted most of his negative emotions. He doesn't feel scared, angry, jealous or hurt. I've put Nick in a sea of tranquility where he can spend all of his time buried under memories of his wife and child, reliving all of his joyous times over and over again. Nick did me a favor by saying yes so I put an end to his suffering. I owed him that much, especially since I was the one that cost him everything," Lucifer stated.

"What do you mean by that?" Sam asked.

"I needed a plan B in place just in case you didn't say yes, so a few weeks before you set me free, I had some demons kill Nick's wife and Child. When you were gone, I used Nick's pain to manipulate my way into a Yes. I know it's ugly, but I had to do it. So now Nick doesn't feel much of anything and he won't until I burn through him."

"You're killing him?" Sam asked as he looked horrified.

"A simple yes from you could end all of this. You're the only one strong enough to contain me Sam," Lucifer explained.

"I can't say yes with the apocalypse on the table. I would say yes if you would just say no to ending my world."

"I can't stop the apocalypse, not even if I wanted to," Lucifer stated.

"What does that mean. You could stop it if you wanted to."

"Free will doesn't exist Sam. It's an illusion, a fable, a lie that my father spreads, but it doesn't exist for you or me. We're all just characters in his creation. He wrote that Lucifer would be the embodiment of evil, so I am. He wanted a devil in this story, so he created me. He wrote the apocalypse just as it is unfolding now. I have to end your world and all the people in it. I don't want to, but I have to. In Detroit, you're going to say yes to me, you may not want to, but you will just the same," Lucifer explained and then Sam woke up.
