Lucifer was looking for something to eat. He kept forgetting that he had to eat, drink water, and all the annoying maintenance humans had to do to survive. His stomach was growling at him like some pissed-off monster and he had a headache, he was probably dehydrated again.

"Can you spare any food or money?" Lucifer asked a stranger who approached him. He hated begging, but he didn't have money and the soup kitchen had closed hours ago.

"No, I don't help trash," the prick said and then walked past him.

Lucifer memorized the details of his face. When this experiment was over and he had his powers again, he would imprison this mortal and force him to go without food or water until he perished. Lucifer chuckled at the thought.

"What are you laughing at?" the pest asked as he turned and looked back at him.

"Oh you'll see by the end of the week," Lucifer promised as he glared at the man.

Then he felt it, his connection to Sam had snapped. He couldn't feel the presence of his other half. It was the first time in a long time that Lucifer had felt isolated in this big universe and that left him feeling vulnerable and worried about Sammy.

"Gabrielle, something has happened to Sam. I need my powers back now," Lucifer prayed.

There was silence for longer than Lucifer would have liked and then the response returned in jumbled pieces.

"Fire…trap…Sam…trouble…Castiel help…Grace…Hotel room…safe," Gabriel's response came across, which confused him even more.

"Castiel, Sam's in trouble, I need to see you now," Lucifer prayed.

Cas appeared before Lucifer.

"Sam's in trouble," they both said at the same time.

"I need to get to my powers, they are in Gabrielle's hotel room, tell me what you know on the way there," Lucifer demanded.

"I was in Sam's mind…"

"What were you doing in Sam's mind?" Lucifer asked.

"Is that important right now? Anyway, I was in Sam's mind when the books of his knowledge started to disappear and the lights went out one by one. I checked on Sam. Dean thought that Sam had gone to bed early, but when we broke into his bedroom there was no sign of him. He went out the window. I'm afraid that Sam killed himself," Cas explained as Lucifer broke into his brother's safe.

"I'm afraid that you're right. My connection to him is gone. I am going to find his soul. Find Gabrielle, he might be trapped. Once you free him, get to Sam's body and do whatever it takes to heal him," Lucifer ordered. He grabbed the vial of his grace and drank it and then he was gone.

"Cas, thank god you found me. Did Lucifer get his grace?" Gabrielle asked as Cas appeared in the warehouse.

"Yes," Cas stated. He reached up and turned on the sprinklers.

"Thanks, Cas."

"How are we going to find Sam? I've carved an Enochian shielding spell in his ribs. At the time, it was necessary, but now…"

"I know Cas, I have a witch friend who can locate him, let's get back to my place," Gabriel stated and then they were back in the hotel suite.

"Rowena, I need Sam's location," Gabriel stated as they appeared in the room.

"I'm way ahead of you my love," Rowena stated as she handed him a piece of paper with coordinates on it.

Lucifer started killing the reapers who didn't give him answers on who had taken Sam.

"Stop, I didn't take Sam, but I know who did," the reaper by the name of Tessa stated as she appeared in the ether between Earth and the afterlife. She knew that it would piss her boss off, but what choice did she have, there were so few reapers left.

"Bring him or her to me. I need to question them," Lucifer stated as he released his hold over the reaper.

Tessa disappeared and then she was back with a reaper Lucifer didn't know.

"What's your name?" Lucifer asked.

"Ben," the reaper replied.

"Ben, did you reap the soul from this man?" Lucifer asked as he showed him a picture of Sammy.

"I can tell by the nervous look on your face, that you reaped the soul from my precious Sammy. Where did you take him?" Lucifer asked when the reaper had stayed silent.

"Ben, I don't want to torture you, but I will if you don't tell me what I need to know," Lucifer growled when there was more silence.

"Just answer him, Ben," Tessa encouraged.

"You don't understand, his one request is that I don't say anything," Ben stated.

"I don't have time for this," Lucifer stated coldly as he placed his hands on Ben's forehead.

Ben started to scream as Lucifer scanned his memories and thoughts until he saw that he had taken Sammy to heaven.

"Was that so difficult now?" Lucifer asked, but he snapped his fingers, turning Ben into smoke before he had a chance to respond and then he was gone.

"Oh Sam, what did you do," Cas whispered as he entered the hotel room that Sam had rented.

"Where's my brother," Dean called. out as he arrived at the room.

"Dean, don't look," Cas said trying to spare his love pain.

"What did he do?" Dean cried out like a wounded animal as he ran to Sam's side. He felt sick as he looked at his brother, his shirt was stained red from where the blood had pooled. Gabriel had already taken the knife out of Sam's chest. His brother's eyes were shut and Dean wondered if he would ever see them again.

"Damnit Sammy," Gabriel swore under his breath. He had his hand placed on Sam's forehead, but there was some kind of magical wall keeping him from being able to heal him. He could sense the damage that was done. There was a little spark of brain activity, but the damage to his mind had been severe. It would take several sessions to heal him, that is if he could get past the magical warding that was keeping him out.

"I sensed that I would be needed here," Rowena stated as she appeared in the doorway.

"Sam cast some kind of spell to keep me from healing him," Gabriel explained.

"I can reverse the spell, once I know what magic he used. Everyone, look around the room," Rowena ordered.

Dean headed to the dresser. He could see four sealed envelopes addressed to Cas, Bobbie, and Lucifer as well as one addressed to him. He picked up the letter with his name on it and then slammed it back down on the table.

"Michael, where is Sammy?" Lucifer asked as his brother appeared at the gates of heaven.

"I happen to think it's a good thing that your perfect vessel is dead, so why would I help you revive him?" Michael asked in a mocking tone.

"Oh, I see…you don't think you have the skills to beat me when I'm at my best with Sam so now you're practically cheating," Lucifer retorted with his own mocking tone.

"I didn't kill Sam, he did that all on his own," Michael stated, obviously bored with this conversation.

"No, but you're keeping me from him. What will the other Angels say when they realize that you kept me from him? Will they realize that their leader is just a scared pansy?" Lucifer stated.

"I'm not scared of anything. Sam's not here. The Empty came for him," Michael explained.

"Why would the Empty…"

"I don't know and I don't care. Go and get your vessel if you can. I'll see you on the day of the Apocalypse little brother," Michael stated just as Lucifer vanished.

They had torn apart the room, but there was no sign of the spell that Sam used.

"It might not be here, Sam has a photographic memory. He could be using any spell that he's seen over the years," Dean explained feeling defeated.

"I know of a temporary enchantment that may get you passed the magical wall, but it will be tenuous at best," Rowena explained.

"It's better than nothing. We'll have Lucifer get that information from Sam, but we have to try otherwise…we just have to try," Gabrielle stated. He went back to Sam's body. The damage done was worsening and if they didn't heal him soon then it would be too late.

Rowena placed her hands over the wound on Sam's chest and then began to chant, creating a blue light over his heart.

"It's working a little bit, keep chanting," Gabrielle stated as he placed his hand on Sam's forehead to heal the damage.

Lucifer felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand upright. It took a lot to frighten him, he was the devil after all, but The Empty was as terrifying as it was strange. Everything around him was black and then he saw himself like he was looking into a mirror image.

"I thought that you might come looking for Sam, but he's mine now," his mirror image said and then laughed a deranged laugh.

"How do you figure? He has a soul, he doesn't belong here," Lucifer argued with the being.

"He has a soul alright, but he also has demon blood, not to mention the power mixed in with his soul. I'm not quite sure what it is, but that boy isn't just human, which makes him mine," the creature said as he laughed.

"What do you want in exchange for Sam?" Lucifer asked.

"You have nothing I want?"

"I can't help but notice, how empty this place really is and I know that it can take a very long, long time for an Angel or a Demon to die."

"What's your point?" the insane figure snarled.

"What if I can guarantee you fifty Demon or Angel death's a year for the next 100 years," Lucifer offered.

"Make it a thousand years. The more Demons and Angels that fill this place the more I can sleep."

"You got yourself a deal," Lucifer said as he went to shake the hand of the Empty, only to find that his hand passed right through the form as if there was nothing there.

"I'm here, but I'm not," The Empty said and then laughed again. Sam appeared next to him. He looked confused and anguished about where he was.

Lucifer grabbed Sam's hand and then disappeared leaving The Empty behind them.
