"Hadrian Stark! You get down from there this instant!" Harry heard his mother yell out to him.
Harry looked out from the tree he had climbed down at his mother. Samira Stark was a fierce person who took shit from no one. It was no wonder Benjen had fallen in love with her on his one trip across the narrow sea. While her background was unknown to anyone but her. Harry knew though that it was the blood of a dragon that just wanted to be released. It was no wonder she was crowned Champion of the Arena and easily bested men. It wasn't her strength that took people down, it was her speed. "But, mom... It is so peaceful up here." Hadrian complained as he looked up at the sky.
"Hadrian, if you are not down here in the next three minutes there will be hell to pay!" Samira yelled back to him. She meant it too. She would force so much harder training on him that he wouldn't even think of climbing a tree again.
"But..." He started before he was interrupted.
"No BUTS! get down here NOW!" Samira yelled at him.
Hadrian knew he was in trouble. It was that no nonsense tone that she took when she trained him or when she was worried about something that made his skin crawl. He immediately started to climb down to his mother. As he reached the ground he looked up at his mother. She was a beautiful woman with silver and black hair split evenly across her head. Her hair as always was weaved into two identical braids that went back and combined into a bun that sat on the back of her head. Her face was currently sporting a scowl that made men cower before her, but regardless she looked like a beautiful warrior. She currently wore an eye patch over her right eye as she had a long scar mark that could be seen underneath. That is what she called her warrior blemish, the only injury she ever received. Her left eye was a violet iris that made her seem like her eye glowed in the dark. Her skin was slightly tanned from the sun as she tended a small garden normally which the tree he climbed in was. She had a graceful and toned body that many would deem as weak, and that is exactly how she wanted it.
"Now, how many times do I have to tell you not to climb that tree?" She asked as looked down on him.
"But, mom..." Hadrian started before getting stopped.
"No buts, Hadrian. You have just passed your fourth name day. I expect better of you." Samira explained as she pulled him into a hug. "You stupid brat, what would have happened if you fell and got hurt."
"Come on, mom. I can't help it. I got your blood wanting to be free in me, and dad's blood wanted to run. It feels like the world is going to change again soon." Hadrian said as he looked out onto the city of Pentos as his blood seemed to sing out as the shift had happened multiple times during his life.
"Regardless there are better ways to let your blood run free. I swear Hadrian you are going to make my hair all silver by your tenth name day." Samira as she ran her fingers through his hair. "You must remember, we have many enemies everywhere. Your father left us for a reason."
"I know, but it isn't fair. I want to be out there seeing the world." He said as he turned into his mother not wanting to see her shame of him.
"My hūra, you can if you wish but only if you can beat me. That way I know you can beat anyone in combat." Samira said, making a deal with her son. She knew if she lost to her boy before his sixteenth name day he would be ready for the world.
"I know, I know. It is just so much out there. I feel like I am stuck in a cage." Hadrian complained.
"Hadrian... The world is not fair and it is unjust." Samira started with her most important lesson to her son.
"I know, and it is up to us to use what is unfair and unjust to our advantage." Hadrian said as he remembered the last time he had seen his mother fight. She had not been fair. She had not been just. She used anything and everything to kill the men that had thought they were easy to rob.
"Good, it seems my lessons are finally sticking." Samira smuggly stated. "Maybe now you won't climb the tree and potentially get yourself injured or worse killed, my hūra."
"But mom, you know I can make it so I won't fall fast enough to get injured." Hadrian said as he had shown signs of his magic already something Samira feared came from both her husband and herself.
"No, Hadrian. That is only to be used in worst case scenarios. Wanting to climb a tree does not count." Samira put her foot down. "Now come, we have much to work on today. Last time your footing was shit."
Across the Narrow Sea. Catelyn Stark had just gotten out of labor. "M'lady you have done well. Another beautiful babe. The gods have blessed you with a daughter." Maester Luwin claimed as he gave the cleaned baby to her mother.
"Thank the gods, Cat. You are both alive and healthy." Lord Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North said as he walked to his wife's side."Oh, Ned. Look how beautiful she is." Cat said as she held up her daughter to her husband."She will have all the heirs' from around the realms wishing for her hand. My sweet, beautiful Sansa." Ned exclaimed as he gave his daughter the name he had chosen with his wife had something occurred, much like when Robb was born.
"M'lord, I must ask you to leave. The lady and baby need to rest."Maester Luwin explained as he did not wish to burden them any longer.
"Of course." Ned started as he kissed both his wife and daughter on their heads. "I will be back later, Cat."
Ned proceeded to leave the room of his wife with a pep in his step and new found happiness. He must have let the news show on his face as he walked into the family room where his brother and sons were sitting. "So, I take it everything went well?" Benjen asked, watching his three nephews play with little toys.
"Aye, a daughter." Ned replied, as he beamed with happiness."Good," Benjen said as he looked at his nephews thinking about his own son.
"Ben, you could go to them, you know. Samira would still accept you in her life." Ned said."Nah, with all that happened... besides I took the Night's Watch oath. Hadrian is better not knowing his father." Ben sighed out.
"You could have brought them to Winterfell. Knowing father would have welcomed them with open arms. He was always like that." Ned tried.
"Aye, but it is in the past. Besides, it was the worst time. First, I ignored our father's wishes as a stupid 16 year old does. Got myself into massive trouble by going on that adventure. Then your rebellion and the new king hunting anything related to the Targaryens. It would have been suicide." Ben sighed. "I wish Lyanna was here. She could have convinced anyone to let my family be here."
"Aye," Ned confirmed. There were so many times he wished Ben and him did not have to take their secret to the grave."Well regardless, I will only be able to stay for about another week. Then I must return." Ben started to get up out of the chair. "Could you have a raven sent out to them for me?"
"Aye, I have been sending them to her this entire time. Making sure my nephew was safe." Ned agreed. He had been sending a small amount of money to Samira to take care of Hadrian since Ben took up the black.
"Oh, please. If anything we need to make sure no one is hurt. Last time, she killed 15 men who tried to harm Hadrian. That woman is the literal embodiment of death and a dragon." Benjen laughed out.
"And you put the first men's blood and direwolf blood into his veins. That child is destined to do great things." Ned tried his attempt again. "Why not have him here with his family? That way he can be safe."
"Cause if I did, Samira would have already killed your friend." Benjen stated as a fact. "She would never allow Robert to be even near her dear boy."That fact is what shook Ned to his very core.
Eight years later
Hadrian ran up the stairs of their house as he made his way to his mother's room. "Mother!" he cried out as he entered looking at the woman who raised him on her deathbed, pale with black veins running up her arms.
"Hadrian... my sweet boy..." Samira coughed out as black tar-like substance escaped her lips.
"Mom, what happened to you? Who did this?" Hadrian asked as his blood began to boil. Whoever caused this would feel his full might.
"My kirine... It was bound to happen... Do not allow hatred to blind you... It is what they want... They want... you... to come to them..." Samira whispered out as his mother pulled out a book from her stand."You... have made me so proud... Do not forget who you are... You have to be better..."
Samira raised her hand to him. "Come here... my kirine..."Hadrian leaned in to hug his mother. He heard, "Do not fret... go to the basement... and pull out the... loose brick... inside is a switch... once the door opens... take all that is inside... remember this... those that bathe in fire... are also born in fire..."
Samira pulled back slightly, looking him into his eyes. "I love you, my hūra... be free... and if you ever need help... look towards the west and the direwolves will come..."Hadrian watched as his mother closed her eyes to never wake again.
Hadrian grieved for his mother as she laid on her bed, taking the book from her hand. 'Whoever did this will pay. It will not be today, it will not be tomorrow, but someday their death will be given.' He thought as he looked at the remnant of what he assumed was the poison that had taken his mother from him.
"Hadrian, you must leave." He heard as the one man who helped his mother and him through it all came through the door downstairs. "The other magisters are coming to take what they want. We must leave."
"Illyrio, do you know who did this?" Hadrian asked as he walked down the stairs to see the Mopatis, magister of Pentos, was one of the few friends he and his mother had in Pentos."I do not, however there are several that it could be. We must hurry and get you out of Pentos. It is not safe." Illyrio tried again to get him to leave.
Hadrian, seeing the panic did not rush. 'If they want what was in this house, they will have to kill me first.' He thought as he proceeded to do what his mother requested of him. Walking down into the basement, Hadrian walked over to the area that his mother had pointed out. Taking his Valerian steel dagger, Dragon's tooth, the gift his mother gave him when he bested her in combat on his fourteenth name day, prided the cement away to pull the brick out. Inside the hole, Hadrian found a chained mechanism. Pulling it, Hadrian thought, 'Damn, mom. Just how paranoid were you? Who caused you to be this paranoid?'After a minute of waiting, Hadrian saw a slab on the floor that was propped up from it that looked like a crank. Peering cautiously, Hadrian pulled the slab to the side revealing stairs. Inside were three chests and a bag. Hadrian teared up as these were the first thing he ever made with his mother.
Flashback 6 years ago
Hadrian watched as his mother was pulling the shadows and her magic towards her as she was silently chanting in Asshai. Slowly the shadows began to merge with her muscles and faded away. "This Hadrian is the magic of our blood. We are of the shadows and night, of the light and fire, and for you specifically, of the ice and forest. Our blood is stronger than any have ever seen. We wield creation as well as destruction. This is why we must keep it secret. If this ever got out, we would never survive." Samira said as she picked up a steel blade.
"My hūra, this is what can happen with our power, our blood."Samira proceeded to bend the blade causing it to snap in half.
"Woah! That amazing mom!" Hadrian exclaimed as he watched his mother create fire in her hand, melting the steel remains into a metallic mess.
"This hūra, is but a fraction of what we can do. Today and for the foreseeable future, we will be using our magic to enchant items to allow us to hold the entire city's weight in a bag without it being heavy." Samira said as she watched her son in awe about all of this. "First my hūra, we must..."
Current
Hadrian walked over to the black leather bag. It was the shadow bag his mother and him created after months of having to push to the limits. It was the one thing he never knew she kept hidden. Pulling the bag open, Hadrian saw the blood seal they placed on the flap that would keep all but their blood from ever opening it. 'Now, is not the time, Hadrian. We need to gather everything and leave.' He thought as tears threatened to overtake his eyes.
Grabbing the sack, Hadrian grabbed the chests, placing them and the book his mother gave him into his bag. 'I will avenge you mom.' He thought as Hadrian looked around the room one last time before leaving. Hadrian walked up to the man waiting for him, "Illyrio, I can not thank you enough for this."
"Hadrian, your mother saved my life multiple times in this life. I am merely paying a debt that could never be fully repaid." Illyrio explained as they rushed out of the house.
"Wait, they will never have her blood." Hadrian said as she grabbed a torch that was on the wall and ran up to his mother's room.
"I am sorry mom."Hadrian watched as his mother's bed and remains caught fire quickly spreading across her.
He quickly ran down the stairs out of the house and into the carriage that Illyrio was waiting for him in. "What now?" Hadrian asked as he secured his bag at his feet.
"Now, we act on your mother's failsafe protocols. That woman wanted to ensure you were safe as you began your journey. Though with how this happened, I have a feeling it will be more of a conquest than a journey with how everything went down I fear." Illyrio said as he tried not to give away anything.
"What do you mean by that?" Hadrian asked as the man in front of him felt the anger of the son of the Desert's shadow.
"Well, your mother and I have been preparing just in case something like this were to happen." Illyrio stated as he felt his eyes meet Hadrian's. "We have known for a while that multiple factions were at work to get rid of her and by extension you. I do not know all the details however, I believe she left you all the details she knew in her journal she gave you."
"Hmm, perhaps." Hadrian released Illyrio's gaze. "Still, I fear I may have to change my name for a while. I will also need an army..." Hadrian stated calculating all that will need to be done before he can get his vengeance.
"Hadrian, your mother wanted you to live a free life, not one on a warpath." Illyrio tried to bargain. It would not do well for him if all around him was destroyed by this young man in the near future.
"I will, as soon as I get revenge on all that have tried to destroy my family." Hadrian stated as his blood demanded that the dragon have his revenge and the wolf inside agreed. "No one messes with my family."
Alright, I got where I wanted with the second chapter. Honestly this is my muse right now so it might be more updated than the other HP story right now. I have been watching House of the Dragon and I am hooked. So I apologize in advance if this comes out twice this month instead of the Naruto story. But as you can see, Hadrian's magic is going to be different. While still able to use spells, his magic is going to be based more in his blood and more aligned with the GOT magic. I wanted to have Hadrian's life with his mother be more clips in later chapters than full blown out there in this chapter because it is more interesting in my opinion. I always enjoyed getting on with the story and then giving back end info throughout when the situation comes up. Example being this part here where Hadrian started learning about the shadow magic and strengthening himself. Blood magic will play alot in this story as Game of Thrones Blood has magical power.
