Aiming – SAO Integral Fragments
The next day
As the sun raised above the SBC Glocken tower, the gang and I ventured across the fields of the Remnant Wastelands, searching for better gear or another part for Rei. The further we progressed, the more interesting the enemies got. Unlike SAO, were the enemies had unique and understanding way to fight, GGO had mechanics that were hard and trickier to grasp. For one thing, the enemies often shot at us and they were pretty quick on their movements. Some enemies even attacked from above, without tight coordination and some help from the rear end, it was hard to defeat enemies. In this game, teamwork is important, and of course that implies with almost getting killed. The enemies had shooting weapons as well, but they did not work together like we do.
"Tar-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra"
Rei: Master, the enemies are 3 meters away from here, there seem to be some destructible objects near their point.
You: Good. Aim for the other enemies guarding the entrance and get their attention on Kirito and Sinon.
Rei: As you wish.
Rei, using her new pair of eyes, Rei aimed at 2 enemy robots that were standing in front of the entrance to a dungeon that Rei said was missing a part for her collection. The problem was, that the entrance was not only guarded, it was surrounded by enemies. But, with Rei's new set of eyes, we coordinated their locations and are trying to lock them down to an ambush, so far, we placed three different groups of enemies together in were we set a few surprises for them.
Rei: Steady…
Rei, locking her eyes on two guardian robots, protecting another robot that seemed to be 10 feet taller than the others, attempted to grab their attention. The tall one seemed to be the sub level boss of the mobs.
You: *I grab a radio* Okay guys, Rei is going to grab their attention. Once she shoots, run to the first group, east side of your location.
Sinon: Copy that.
Kirito: Is she ready?
Sinon: Yes. If anything goes wrong, be prepared to engage.
Kirito: Right. We only got one shot. Is Kureha ready?
Kureha: *she speaks through the radio* I am ready. I've set the traps. One trigger and its "boom" time!
You: Copy. *I load my handgun* Alright Rei… in one… two…
Rei places her finger on the trigger and the bullet line appears.
You: Three!
"Pew!"
The bullet is fired… the air pressured around the bullet, fired from the barrel, now heading straight towards the robots.
"Bang!"
The bullet hits the floor, grabbing the attention of the robots.
Guardian robots: "BRZZZ?!"
Robot leader: "BEEP-BRZZZ!"
Sinon: They bought it! *she fires a pistol* "Bang"
Robot Leader: "BRZZZ!"
The larger robot gives out the order, and begins chasing Sinon and Kirito.
Kirito: Lets go!
Sinon and Kirito begin running through the streets with the three robots chasing and shooting them, heading east to the first group.
Sinon: there they are.
Four sets of robots were standing in one place and turn their attention to Kirito and Sinon.
Sinon: Kirito!
Kirito: Right!
Sinon and Kirito leap above the robots and land on the other side as the three other robots who were chasing them stand in the center from where the other robots are standing.
Kirito: Heads up!
The beeping sound of a mechanism is heard as they step in the center and then.
"KABOOOM!"
The robots explode, falling into different parts of the area, bursting into polygons.
Robot leader: "BRZZZ!"
Sinon: Looks like it wasn't enough to knock him down after all.
Kirito: then let us proceed.
Kirito and Sinon begin running again with the robot leader chasing them.
Kirito: *he speaks through the radio* Kureha, he is still on foot, heading your way now!
Kureha: Copy that. Alright…
Looking from above, there are a few gliding drones with weapons at their bottom. Some of them were rifles, others were snipers. The drones seemed to have different shooting strategies.
Kureha: Just a little more…
Kirito and Sinon, now approaching the area woth the drones, keep running with the robot leader still chasing and shooting at them.
Sniper drones: "BRZZZZGH!"
The drones focus on Kirito and Sinon as they dash through the drones with multiple bullet lines targeting them.
Kureha: Say goodnight! *she presses a control button*
As Kureha presses a button on her remote, bombs, placed on the buildings, detonate all simultaneously, making the drones explode with the blasts.
"BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-KA-BOOOM!"
The drones fall down and burst into polygons as the buildings were light up in flames from the bombs.
Kureha: Ha! Take that suckers!
Kirito: Great work, Kureha! *he yells as he keeps running*
Robot leader: "RRRZZZZT"!
Kureha: and don't think I've forgotten about you! *she presses a button*
As Kirito and Sinon flee from the area, the robot leader steps in a circular glowing area where…
"KA-BOOOOM!"
An explsion is detonated from his feet and it falls down hard with only a quarter of HP left.
Kirito: And its still on foot. Alright *he speaks through the radio* he is coming to you now, be ready!
You: Right. Alright, Rei. Its time.
Rei: Right, master.
Using my UFG, I grab Rei by the weist and fire at a path crossing building, where I swang myself spiderman style and landed right in the middle of the street, where I saw Sinon and Kirito running towards us.
Sinon: It's all on you two now!
You: Rei.
Rei: Yes, master.
Rei loads up her submachine gun and then aim behind Kirito and Sinon.
Rei: RHHGAAAA! "Ta-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra!"
Bullet shells fall to the ground as Rei fires at the robot leader who was now shifting focus from Sinon and Kirito to Rei. Which is exactly what I wanted.
Robot leader: "BRZZZT!" "SPHOOOSH!"
The robot leader let out some gas from its face as it focused its bullet line on Rei, giving me an opportunity to strike.
You: Over here you oversized iron-man! HREAAAAGH!
Using my saber blade, I swing at the boss over and over as the "Vroom-vroomy" sound echoed through every swing. With precise movement and agility, the boss missed every bullet targeted at me, shooting buildings or the street.
Robot leader: "BRZZZZ!" "Pew-pew"
The bullets hit the street as I agiliticaly swift through them and finally.
You: HREAAAA! *I slash through its torso*
Slashing through its torso, the boss explodes into polygons and the entire district was secured.
Sinon: That's the last of them.
Kirito: Whew, that was amazing!
Rei: And you were amazing too, master!
Kureha: *pant-pant* hey, you guys did it?
You: Yup. Thanks to Rei's eye upgrade, the enemies were easy to locate and prortize a strategy. We saved a lot of ammo and a lot of time thanks to Rei. Thanks, Rei. You did me proud.
Kirito: Yeah, good job!
Sinon: It was splendid.
Kureha: That's right, you are amazing!
Rei: Uh…
Rei, inable to control her happiness, she bursts into tears and begins holding me as she cries in happiness.
Rei: Waaaah! "Sniff" I am so happy! "Sniff" I was of use!
You: Ighehe, see… I told you, you would grow. Now, could you loosen your grip before you break my neck?
Rei: Waaaah!
You: Seriously, are you even listening to me? You're hugging me too tight, gah!
Kirito: Snrk…
Sinon: whats that supposed to mean?
Kirito: oh nothing, it's just… they remind me of when I met him and Koharu for the first time. Whenever she did something amazing, she'd cry in happiness and hold him all the time. It sure takes me back.
Sinon: Well now, I never thought you'd be the sentimental type. I always thought of you as some egotistic maniac who would always go jumping into danger before thinking things.
Kirito: Wh-What?! How the hell did you come up with that conclusion?
SInon: you always wear black, you like to travel solo, you constantly see the good in others and you always jump right into the danger zone without caring about your own safety. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Kirito: I… don't…
Kureha: I see that you all are really close. Do you guys hang out together or something?
You: Uh, well… we go way back. Two years actually.
Kureha: Really? That long?
Kirito: Yeah. Though we mostly met by coincidence.
Kureha: Really? By pure coincidence.
You: Yup. I met Kirito on an outing (More like fighting off some monsters that Koharu summoned thanks to her yelling and he saved us both).
Sinon: and I just stumbled on them when I needed… some help.
Kureha: Wow, so just by pure coincidence and yet you three are this close. I saw the way you three acted accordingly in that battle, it's like you guys have done this a thousand times, surely something must have brought you this close, come on tell me.
Kureha looked at us with anticipation but we can't just tell her that we are this close because we are SAO survivors. She is going to have questions and we can't easily answer them, but if we don't give her a decent answer, she is going to get suspicious, especially since I am involved in this.
You: Well, the three of us would play online games most of time. The three of us are in the same party and we'd always come up with strategies like these.
Kureha: Wow, but what kind of game would you three play if you are this skilled?!
You: (For frying out loud, why must she ask so many questions?) Well…
?: Well, well, well…
By mere coincidence, a deep menacing voice was heard from behind us. It was the same guy that was trying to buy Rei from me the other day.
?: We meet again, ey.
You: Yeah… Mister number 2?
Bazalt Joe: My name is Bazalt Joe! For crying out loud! Grr… anyways, I am sure you know why I am here, right?
Three bullet lines were in my line of vision. Two were coming from higher ground and the third one was coming from the bottom ground. Two players were aiming from large rocks just a few feet away from us and the one at the bottom was just five feet away from Bazalt joe.
You: So, you're really going to try and take her from me, are you?
Bazalt Joe: I told you I wouldn't give up… when I see you're Arfa-sys… the urge to have her gets more and more strong. I may not be as strong as those in the higher rankings like Musketeer X, XeeXeeD or Itsuki, but my will definitely is. Of course, I am also a reasonable man, hand over your Arfa-sys and we'll let you go.
You: You really expect me to just hand her over like that? I am not going down that easy.
Kirito: Rei, is more than an Arfa-sys, she's our friend, and we won't hand her over like some tool.
Kureha: Ehaha, before proceeding any further, I need to have a word with these two.
Kureha then drags Kirito and I from our coats and huddles us up.
Kureha: Okay, I know you guys say that you have been fighting together for a while, but are you two actually serious. He may not be as strong as those in the higher ranks but he is definitely not in the lowest either. His squad is considered a raiding squad.
You: what do you mean by that?
Kureha: He and his buddies are highly skilled when it comes to taking things. They are not as hot headed as some of the other Pkilling squads that lurk around here but they are as skilled and strong as them. You guys have only been here for a couple of days, are you guys sure you want to head into player to player territory?
You: Mm…
As I looked at Rei, I could tell that she was nervous, not about Bazalt Joe but rather… for me.
You: Look, I understand your concern but rather we like it or not, they are not going to let us down easy. They have surrounded either way.
Kureha: Tsk… I guess you're right. But do you guys think you can do it?
Kirito: Don't worry, we've faced way worse.
Sinon: Just let them be. One they have their objective, there is no stopping them. *she loads her sniper* that same goes for me. One my target is insight, I won't let it go away that easily… not without a fight.
Kureha: You… you three seem really determined, like… like as if you've faced death straight in the face.
You: (That wouldn't even be surprising when you've actually faced the prince of hell) We wont hand her over.
Squad member: find by us, we'll take her then.
You: Rei.
Rei: Y-Yes, master?
You: Do me a favor.
Rei: Yes?
You: When they run out of bullets, aim for the guy behind Bazalt Joe. Sinon, think you can take the furthest one at the top of the rock?
Sinon: Roger.
You: Kureha, it will be up to you to get that last one at the nearest rock.
Kureha: Wh-what are you even planning?
You: Kirito, if I miss, keep them safe.
Kirito: Now your starting to make me curious…
You: "Vroom!"
With my saber blade now active, the blue particle glows as it vrooms with my swing, getting ready for battle.
Squad member: Hah! Your going to fight us with a sword? Your as good as dead.
Looking very closely at the bullet lines, I steady my aim at the three lines, beginning to get ready at the first sound of fire.
You: Hmm… (I can do this… I can do this) Sinon, Rei, Kureha, get down.
Sinon, Kureha and Rei lay down as they steady their weapons.
Kureha: (Y-You) what are you even planning? Answer me!
You: *I breathe in and out*
Bazalt Joe: FIRE!
"BANG!"
…
…
The bullet was flying towards me… and just as the bullet line turns red…
You: Hmph! "Clank!"
The bullet gets deflected with my blade and turns into hot air leaving chunks of metal. The three girls behind stared at me with wide eyes, not believing what I just did.
"Ta-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra"
The bullets, rapid firing me, deflected with every swing I took.
"Vroom-vroo-vroom!"
Blue light shined around me as the bullets got deflected one by one. With precise speed and movement, I was deflecting bullets with my sword, after a while, the bullets stopped and the players saw that they were out of bullets.
You: Switch out!
Sinon, aimed for the fursthest member and then…
"Bang!"
Squad member 2: Wh-what the?! GAAAAGH! "Dead"
Kureha: U-Uh! Hmm… *she switches gear* take this! "SWOOSH!"
A rocket missile was fired and heads to the next member.
Squad member 3: WH-WHOAA! "Ka-boom!" "Dead"
Rei: HEAAAA! "Ta-ra-ra-ra-ra!"
Squad member: Gagh! Dagh! DAMN IT! "Dead"
Bazalt Joe: Gigh?! How did you—GAGH!
Bazalt Joe then gets tackled by Kirito and I show up behind him pointing my handgun to his face.
Kirito: its over.
Bazalt Joe: Igh… *he raises his arms in surrender*
Kirito: *he backs off*
Kureha: I don't believe it…we… we won.
Rei: Yay! Master!
Kirito and I both twirls our swords and put them behind our backs.
You: U-Uh, oh right.
Kirito: Ugh, damn it…
Realizing it's not SAO, we turn to the others who stared in disbelief at us.
Sinon: that was the first time I've ever seen someone deflect bullets. To be honest, I didn't even know it was possible.
Kureha: Well, hardly anyone use a saber blade so, not a lot of people would have discovered such thing. But still, to be able to deflect every single bullet, that's… beyond luck, there is no way that could be possible! How did you do that?
You: Uh… well, since the bullet lines were aimed at me at a specific direction, I swung my sword at each side at precise speed and movement. It's not hard if your stats are high.
Kirito: Like they say, predict the predictions.
Sinon: that is… that is just crazy…
Bazalt Joe: gotta say. That was some impressive display of skill… guess I shouldn't have underestimated you just because you got lucky on a dungeon event. Surely you must have had some skills to have made it that far… oh well, guess you win this time… but next time it won't be so easy.
Bazalt Joe then proceeds to walk away with no single trace of embarrassment, if anything, it looked like he took it as a learning experience. If it is how he feels… then maybe I am underestimating him too.
Rei: U-Uh, mister— I mean, Bazalt Joe.
Bazalt Joe: Hmm?
Rei: I don't understand why you are doing this but… d-don't think my master will go easy on you next time.
Bazalt Joe: Uh… *he smiles* good to know. *he walks away*
Kureha: I am still in shock that we won, not everyone wins on the first try. But I guess it was mostly thanks to you, (You). You're really good with a sword, did you happen to train with one before?
You: Uh, not exactly… I guess… when your stats are high and you get used to the mechanic of a sword, it becomes easy… which is the best way to describe it.
Kureha: you say that… but the way you put your sword away looked like you've done it before a million times… that same goes for you Kirito.
Kirito: Ehehe, yeah, I guess so. *he says scratching his head*
Kureha: Hmm…
Rei: Hmm… master!
You: Y-yes?
Rei: I am sensing the missing part around here… over there!
Rei then runs behind a building where out of nowhere…
"BOOOM!"
Rei: AAAH!
You: REI!
Rei gets blasted away as four small missiles aimed at her.
"Stomp!" "Stomp!" "Stomp!"
At the end of the street, stood a large robot, almost about the size of a building, with two rocket launcher weapons on its shoulders and strong metal as its armor.
You: the Corpse Sniper.
Kirito: judging by its size, it must be a field boss.
Kureha: those things are hard to beat, bullets can barely go through its armor.
Corpse Sniper: "BEEEP!"
The boss was focusing on Rei, who was laying on the ground.
You: Well we can't leave, Rei!
Dashing into the field, I reach Rei and tuckle her out of the line of fire.
"BEEEEEEEEM!"
A massive laser ray was shot from its eye and it began to walk towards us.
Corpse Sniper: "BEEEP!"
"Bang! Bang!"
Kirito shot at the boss a few times, grabbing its attention.
Kirito: Go! Get out of there!
You: Igh! Come on, Rei!
Grabbing Rei, I take her to a secure location.
Kirito: Okay, looks like they got away.
Kureha: except that's its now focused on us.
Sinon: Kirito! Look out!
Kirito: Huh?! MPHHHH!
Kirito is then grabbed by the boss in where it aims at the buildings and then with all its force, throws Kirito into the building.
Kirito: WHOOAAAAAAAAAAAA! "CRASH!"
Sinon and Kureha: KIRITOOOOO!
Rei: Okay, Master.
You: you need to recover your health first, here. *I give her med-kit* use that, and it should get your health back. I am going to save Sinon and Kureha. When you're healed up, wait for my command, okay?
Rei: Y-Yes, Master.
You: Alright.
Getting up, I begin running towards the boss and then, using my UFG, I aim at the boss and as the green beam shoots me in the air, I power up my legs and aim for the boss's back.
You: HREAAAAGH!
With a powerful kick, the boss is pushed down.
Corpse sniper: "BRZZZZZ!"
Kureha: Its down!
Corpse sniper: "BRRZZZZZZT!" *it slaps Kureha*
With a powerful slap, Kureha is thrown into a building and she falls down with her HP falling down.
You: what the?! Kure—GAAAGH!
The same way as Kureha, the boss gets up quickly and slaps me away, knocking me a few feet away.
Sinon: Igh…
The boss focuses on Sinon and Sinon begins to run through the streets. The boss shot at the ground each time Sinon made a dodge. Jumping from building ledges and abandoned cars, she covers a large amount of ground between her and the boss and she managed to find cover.
As the boss faced away from me, I saw a large glowing like button on its back. Remembering a while back, when I hit its back, the boss did fell pretty easily.
Sinon's memory voice: all enemies have a weakness, once you find it, they are pretty easy to beat.
Feeling curious, I grabbed my handgun and aimed for its back, the bullet circle grew and shrank but after a while, it focused on the button.
"Bang!"
With single shot, the boss gets a critical hit.
You: that's it! Its back is its weakness!
Corpse sniper: "BEEP!"
The boss turns its upper torso frantically… and aims at me.
You: Oh…
"BOOOOM!"
Eight set of small missiles hit me the same way as Rei and I am blasted away.
You: Pugh! *I get blasted away*
Kureha: Igh… *she gets up* its back, huh.
Sinon then switches to her rocket launcher and aims for its back.
"SWOOOOOSH! BOOOOM!"
Corpse sniper: "BRZZZ-ZZZZT!" *it falls on one knee*
Kureha: its down for real now! We need to land our attacks!
Hearing Kureha's words, I begin rapid firing at its back the most I can with her following up with her submachine gun but it was not enough. We needed more bullets.
Kureha: Damn it! its not enough.
Corspe sniper: "BRZZZZZZT!"
The boss gets up and then begins to glow in a heat of red.
You: take cover!
The boss then spins around from where it was standing and fires a set of missiles from where it was spinning.
"BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!"
You: Igh!
With a heat of wave covering our faces, the boss then reaises its leg and stomps the ground, landing a shockwave and makes us unable to move.
You: Igh!
Kureha: I… can't move…
Corpse Sniper: "BEEEEEP!"
The boss's eye begins to shine, it was preparing a laser beam.
You: its line of fire is too large. *I prepare my UFG* Kureha, grab on!
Kureha: Okay *she grabs my hand* but do it gent— *I fire* -TLYYYYY!
The two of us were out of the line of fire and the beams fires at a building instead. Kureha and I landed at the top of a demolished building as we view our surroundings. Sinon and Kirito were nowhere to be seen and Rei was still in cover, Kureha and I were the only ones on the front lines.
Kureha: that thing is too strong, we can't defeat it. We need to retreat.
You: even if you say that, that thing is targeting us, it won't let us escape that easily. What could happen if we die out here?
Kureha: worst case scenario, the items and money you've earned all get dropped from where you died.
You: I am in debt for 5 million credits, no way am I going to lose that… there has got to be another way… where are the others anyway?
"SWOOOSH!"
Corpse sniper: "BRRZZZZT!"
Purple light was shining from the boss's legs, it was Kirito.
Kirito: HREAAAAGH!
With Kirito's strikes, the boss was hitting damage.
You: Kirito is damaging it!
Kureha: of course! The saber blade, just like that other boss, you and Kirito can defeat it!
You: wish it were that easy, you saw how it attacked when you and I closed in on it, we need to get to focus on a target that is at least out of its range.
"BANG!"
A strong blast was heard and the boss was hit with a critical blow on its back.
Kureha: that shot sounded like it came from over there.
Looking at a faraway distance, I saw small light reflected by the sun on the inside of a tall building, it had to be Sinon.
You: Looks like Sinon found her advantage point, with that I can proceed. Think you can also lend a hand.
Kureha: *she switches gear* count on it.
Jumping down the building, I begin running with my saber blade activated.
Kirito: HGREAAA!
Corpse sniper: "BRZZZZZT!"
The boss focused on Kirito as it was preparing its missiles for launch.
Kirito: Igh!
You: watch out!
With little time to react, I stab the boss on the chest which triggers a plasmatic explosion through its armor.
Corpse sniper: "BRZZZ-ZZZ-ZZZT!"
The boss, almost like as a last attempt, raised its arm and formed a fist directed at me.
Kirito: (You)! Get out of the—!
Before he can say anything, I feel strong pressure on my chest as my vision is covered in darkness… it was dark but I knew I was still alive.
You: ghigh… you think… you can squish me… like some bug?!
The boss smashed me to the ground with its fists… but I wasn't going down that easily.
You: GHIIIIGH!
Using all of my strength, I began to lift its fist.
Kureha: Hey, what happe—… oh my gosh…
Kureha, Kirito, maybe even Sinon were amazed as they saw me lifting the boss's fist, both of my hands on its fist, slowly lifting it up.
You: GHIIIIIRGH! S-Switch!
Kirito: Uh! Right! Kureha, with me!
Kureha: R-Right!
Kirito began to slash the boss with sword movement I can only describe as SAO Sword skills, side slashes, vorpal leap, vorpal squares. Kureha was backing him up as she fired her submaching gun on at its back.
Sinon: 50 yards. 15 feet tall, armor denser then metal, nothing I cant handle…
Sinon aimed steadily and calmly as her rifle focused on its back. Her finger touching the trigger, then—
"BANG!"
The bullet fires from her rifle and then lands a massive critical hit on the boss.
You: Ghiigh! *I push the boss back* Rei, now!
Rei emerges from an alley and then jumps on the boss as she grabs the knife I gave her…
A few moments ago
You: Listen, the three of us are going to exhaust the boss, once he is at a critical point, use this and finish him off. *I give her a knife*
Rei: Why me, Master?
You: Because I trust you. If we are going to survive, then we need to put trust. Do you trust me?
Rei: I do… I always do.
You: then do as I say.
Rei: Okay, Master.
You: you need to recover your health first, here. *I give her med-kit* use that, and it should get your health back. I am going to save Sinon and Kureha. When you're healed up, wait for my command, okay?
Rei: Y-Yes, Master!
Rei: GREAAAAAA!
Electrical sparks flash out of the boss as Rei stabs its weak point, making the boss fall down to its face.
Corpse Sniper: "BRZZZZZ-ZZZZT-ZZZXXXX-ZZZT-ZZZXXXT!" "BEEEeeeeeeep…."
The boss falls silent, and after a while…
"POOF!"
The boss explodes into red pixelated polygons and the area was cleared.
Congratulations!
Kureha: I… I don't believe it… we won again!
Kirito: phew… that was intense. But not as intense as when you were being squashed like a bug now, is it?
You: Heh, or as you getting thrown into a building.
Kirito: I crashed through several walls.
Sinon: Now that it's all dealt with *she says walking towards us with her rifle* I propose we head back and gear up. I don't have many bullets left.
Kureha: neither do I. Heading back seems most logical. Also, that was… amazing (You), the way you lifted that boss's fist. Like… how did you do that?!
Kureha talked in great amazement, I fear that the more I show her my power… the more suspicious she will get. Heck, I think she already is.
You: Well, the boss couldn't kill me, my defense was higher so he only damaged me, so I used my strength to defend myself. I think any player can do it if their level is high.
Kureha: Y-Yeah, I guess so.
You: Rei, are you okay?
Rei stared at the ground where the boss was defeated, holding the dagger that she used to kill it.
Rei: I did it…
You: Huh?
Rei turns around with a big grin on her face.
Rei: I did it, Master. I stabbed the boss just like you said, was of use to you?
You: Uh… *I smile* Yes, you were. *I pat her head* you did me proud.
Rei: Uh… *she smiles and blushes* Mm?
Rei then looks at the ground and as I turn to see what she was seeing, I saw a part.
You: A part.
Rei: Master *she grabs the part and hands it to me* you know what to do.
You: Right.
Using the setting menu for my Arfa-sys, I boost a few of her status points and then proceed to add the part. It seemed to be attached to her back.
