Disclaimer: I got inspiration for this story from another fanfic called 'Skyward Swaps by HolyMaiden24.' In this story I'm obviously switching Link and Zelda's roles, where Link is the one who fell out of the sky and Zelda hast to save him. I'm also turning Hylia into a boy for obvious reasons so instead of the statue of the goddess it'll be the statue of the god. This is the first game fanfic I made so I'm not expecting it to be good but I'll try. This will contain spoilers for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD so if you haven't seen or played the game I suggest that you do that first.

Zelda, the daughter of Gaepora who is the headmaster of the knight academy in Skyloft, found herself suspended in a dark, void like place. She looked straight ahead and came face to face with a giant monster. It had two legs, three rows of teeth, as well as black and red scales that covered its entire body. Suddenly a bright light appeared above them. Making Zelda cover her eyes.

"Rise, Zelda the time has come for you to awaken. You are fated to have a hand in a great destiny and it will soon find you. The time has come for you to awaken." She heard, though she did not recognize whose voice that was. Once the light was gone, Zelda uncovered her eyes excepting to see the monster but to her surprise she saw her childhood friend standing before her with his back facing her.

"Link?" He didn't react as if he didn't hear her. She walked towards him and once she was close enough she placed a hand on his shoulder. "Link?" She said placing a hand on his shoulder. This time Link turned around and smiled. His expression quickly turned to fear. "Behind you!" He shouted. Turning around she saw the monster lunging towards them with its mouth wide open.

She jolted up screaming, sweating, and panting profusely. Looking around she noticed that she was in her room. Zelda breathed a sigh of relief. 'Thank goodness. It was just a dream' she thought. She's been having a lot of nightmares lately, though they weren't the same. They all included her, Link, and that monster. They all ended with that monster devouring them.

"Zelda!" Her father came rushing in. "What happened? I heard you screaming so I came here as quickly as I could. Are you alright?" He asked obviously worried. Zelda didn't answer. "Did you have another nightmare?" Zelda nodded. "I'm sorry for making you worry." "It's alright Zelda." He sat down beside her. "Do you want to talk about it?" She shook her head. "There's nothing to talk about, it's the same. It's just me, Link, and that monster and it ends with it devouring me and Link." She then remembered the unfamiliar voice in her dream. 'What did it mean by "you are fated to have a hand in a great destiny?"' She asked herself.

Gaepora pulled his daughter in for a hug. "It's alright Zelda. It was only a dream." "I know father… I'm just… confused on why that thing keeps appearing in my dreams and why me and Link are always killed by it" she said. "It'll be ok. We'll find a way to get rid of these nightmares. Anyways we better get ready for the Wing Ceremony today" Zelda nodded. She was going to be playing the role of the goddess for the race so she had to be ready.

After putting on an outfit and the wrap she made herself, she quickly wrote a letter to Link, grabbed her harp, and made her way to the god statue. Once she was there, she called for her loftwing and handed it the letter. She then started to play her harp and sing.

After the wing ceremony, Link graduated to a senior knight, he, Zelda, and their loftwings were standing in front of the statue of the god. "You know, Link, seeing as you won today." Zelda stopped what she was saying when she saw Link looking around frantically. "Is something wrong?" She asked concerned. "Did you hear that?" He asked. "Hear what?" She asked back. Link shook his head. "Nothing never mind." "Is something wrong? You've been acting kind of strange lately."

Link sighed. "It's just… recently I've been hearing this voice. I first heard it when I was training with Eagus. I thought it was just my imagination but I heard it again the next day and every day before that. It's almost like someone is calling me. Either someone is pulling a prank on me or I'm going crazy." Zelda giggled. "Well then, since the weather is so nice, how 'bout we go fly around in the clouds to get your mind off it." Link nodded. They then got on their loftwings and took off.

Once they were far enough away from Skyloft, Zelda called out to Link. "Yeah?" He said. "Today was amazing. Watching you win the race and performing the ritual together… I'll always remember this. It really was wonderful." Link nodded in agreement. "You know… Link… there's something I've been meaning to talk to you about-" Zelda was interrupted by a flash of light and the wind became stronger than it was a moment ago.

"What's going on?!" Zelda shouted panicked. "Zelda! Let's get back to Skyloft!" Link shouted and Zelda agreed. As they turned around her harp fell. Despite the danger, Zelda flew down to try and grab her harp. "ZELDA!" Link shouted chasing after her. As she got closer, Zelda reached out to try and grab it but she couldn't due to it being a few inches out of her reach. A strong gust of wind knocked her off her loftwing and she fall. As she was falling Link, with the help of his Loftwing, managed to grab her hand and pull her up. "Thank you" Zelda said. "Any time" Link said.

He placed her in front of him and held himself over her, pressing her to Crimson's back to prevent her from falling again. "I've got you. Now let's back to Skyloft!" Link said. As they tried to fly back to Skyloft, the wind became much stronger making it nearly impossible to escape. Suddenly a black tornado appeared. Due to the strong wind Link lost his grip and balance causing him to fall with the tornado sucking both him and Zelda's loftwing in. "LINK!" Zelda screamed. She tried to go after him but the tornado released a strong gust of wind sending her and Crimson flying back, knocking her out in the process.

Zelda opened her eyes to find herself falling in the same dark place she often finds in her dreams. A bright light appeared above her as well as a blue figure. "I am waiting for you. The time has come for you to awaken. You are vital to a mission of great importance. Zelda" the figure said before disappearing. After the figure disappeared she saw Link below her, falling with her. As they reached for each other the monster from her dreams appeared right below Link with its mouth wide open.

Zelda opened her eyes and quickly sat up to see that she was in her room. "You're finally awake, my dear." Zelda turned her head to see her father approaching her close to tears. "When Crimson brought you back, you were limp and unconscious. I feared the worst. Fortunately, you don't appear to have any serious injuries. For that much, we can be grateful." Gaepora pulled her into a hug.

"F-father" Zelda said trying to hold back her tears. "You're shaking. What happened?" He asked pulling away. "And Zelda… Where's Link? He was with you, was he not?" Zelda looked at her father in the eyes and explained what happened before she was knocked unconscious. Gaepora listened to the entire story from start to finish. "A black tornado, you say? Hmm. That was no ordinary storm" Gaepora said.

Zelda tried to get up but Gaepora put a hand on her shoulder to keep her from standing. "You must not push yourself. You're still recovering" he said. "I need to go save him!" She shouted. "I get that you're worried but you need to calm down. Remember Link's not just a student anymore he's a senior knight now. He can handle himself" Gaepora said trying to reassure his daughter but it wasn't working. "Zelda, tell me. When you saw Link today did anything about him seem off?" Zelda nodded.

After a bit of explaining, Gaepora said "I see. So he's been hearing someone calling him and those nightmares you've been having were dreams about a great mission? How interesting." Gaepora pandered on what Zelda had just told him. "Father?" Zelda said. "I'm sorry. I was lost in thought there for a moment. It's all very strange, but I doubt there's much of a connection between these things. I'm concerned for Link as much as you but so long as he's with your loftwing I'm sure he'll be fine." "Either way I have to find him I need to know if he's ok" Zelda said trying to get up but once again her father stopped her. "You can't right now. Daybreak has yet to arrive. It would be very difficult to spot either one in the dark. It would be best if you rest now and go look for him in the morning. Link's going to be fine. He's strong so he'll be able to defend himself. Just... promise me you'll wait until morning to fine him." Zelda sighed in defeat. "Alright."

Gaepora turned to leave. "Father" Zelda said stopping him in his tracks. "Yes?" "I… I lost the harp you gave me during that whole ordeal." Hearing that, Gaepora face paled. "I'm so sorry… I know how much that harp meant to you." Before Zelda could finish what she was saying Gaepora hugged her. "It's alright. I'm not mad at you. You don't mean to. Get some rest." He then left the room leaving Zelda alone with her thoughts.

She laid down, riddled with guilt for not being able to save her friend. 'Link I'm so sorry I wasn't able to save you but I promise I'll look for you the moment I wake up.' As she was about to close her eyes and sleep she heard a noise outside the door.

Zelda got out of bed and headed towards the door. 'I swear to god, if that's Groose.' "Who's there?!" She demanded storming into the hallway. "Groose if that's you, I'm not in the moo-" Instead of seeing Groose she saw the same blue figure from her dreams, hovering above the ground.

She didn't move an inch or say anything. "Great! I'm still dreaming" Zelda said frustrated. "I can reassure you Zelda that his is no dream" the figure said in the same robotic voice she heard in her dream. Zelda sighed. "Alright then if I'm not dreaming then who are you?" "I'll gladly tell you who I am but in order for me to do that, you must follow me." "And why would I do that? I don't even know how you are" Zelda said. "I can assure you Zelda, I mean no harm to you or anyone else in Skyloft. That would go against everything I was created for." Zelda sighed. Although she has no reason to trust this person a part of her is telling her that she should. She believed her when she said she wasn't going to hurt her cause if she was she would've done it already.

Zelda shrugged and followed the figure. The figure led her all the way to the back of the statue of the god. She managed to scare off a couple of creatures and a remlit which turns aggressive at night. She fazed through the wall and the crest started to glow before disappeared entirely, leaving Zelda astonished. Upon entering the statue, the first thing she saw was a sword in a pedestal.

As she was studying the sword, it started to glow and the figure she had been following appeared in front of it. "The one chosen by my creator. I have been waiting for you. You will play a role in a great destiny." Zelda shrugged. "Alright… but could you please answer my questions now? I'm very confused." The figure nodded. "According to your social customs, I should provide you with my personal designation. Fi is the name that I was given. I was created for a single purpose, long before the recorded memory of your people. I must aid you in fulfilling the great destiny that is your burden to carry. Come Zelda, you must take up this sword. As the one chosen by my creator, it is your destiny." Zelda didn't move an inch, unsure whether she wanted to do this or not. Unsure of what she was getting herself into if she does take it.

"The strange dreams troubling your sleep. My sudden appearance. Uncertainly surrounding the fate of one you hold dear. Under the circumstances, it is only logical that you would exhibit some apprehension. To minimize your uncertainty, allow me to share some information. My projections indicate that this information has a high probability of altering your current emotional state. The one you seek, honorable Link, is still alive" Fi said. Zelda gasped. "He is?" Fi nodded making Zelda sigh in relief.

"The spirit warrior… the one you call Link… is another chosen one fated to be part of the same great mission. Therefore should you wish to meet with your friend, I highly recommend you take up this sword before you set out to search for him. Does that information invigorate you to accept this sword?" Fi asked. Zelda took a deep breath and dashed to the sword. Fi flew up a little higher. "It seems that further persuasive measures will not be required. In the name of my creator, draw the sword and raise it skyward."

Zelda still wasn't sure if she could trust Fi or not but if what she said was true and Link's alive then she's willing to take that chance. She pulled the sword out of the pedestal, surprisingly with ease and raised it to the sky. "Recognition complete, Mistress. Zelda… my mistress. From here on out I am to aid you in your journey, tasked with helping you on your journey and to provide information on your enemies" Fi said. "Enemies?" Zelda questioned. "Yes. There is a 100% chance that you will encounter many enemies who wish to do you harm along the way." Fi said. Zelda knew what she had said was true but she still didn't like the idea of having to fight things.

"Zelda." She turned around to see her father standing in the entrance. "I-I had my suspicions, but until now I wasn't sure. Yet here we are in the chamber of the sword, the very place where it was foretold the youth of legend would one day appear. It is said that this place was left to our people by the god himself. The very knowledge of this room's existence is a secret passed down to a select few each generation, along with a handful of words. When the light of the god's sword shines bright, the great apocalypse will wake from its long slumber. Do not fear, for its then that a youth that resides at the academy shall reveal herself in a place most sacred. It started days ago. The sword that I've kept secret years. It began to give off a faint, otherworldly light. At first I was sure I was seeing things, here alone with the sword. There was simply no other explanation. I never dreamed the prophecy of legend would come to pass in my lifetime." He then looked at Fi and continued "the words I have sworn to keep secret are coming true before my very eyes. The youth will be guided by one born of the blade-one who is also youthful in likeness yet wise with knowledge immeasurable."

"Ah yes, oral tradition, one of the least reliable methods of retention and transmission. It appears that critical sections of the passage have been lost over the generations" Fi said cause Zelda and Gaepora to look at each other then back at her. Fi floated back to the ground. "The youth who draws forth the guiding sword shall be known as the God's Chosen hero, and it is she who possesses an unbreakable spirit. She shall be burdened with the task of abolishing the shadow of apocalypse from the land. Such is her destiny. With the spirit of the blade at her side, she shall soar over the clouds and plummet below. And, united with the spirit warrior, shall bring forth a piercing light that resurrects the land." Once Fi finished, Zelda was left speechless. She remembered that some of her father's old texts talk about a place below the clouds called the Surface. She had even told Link about it when earlier today they were searching for his loftwing. She had wanted to go there the moment she read about it but she wasn't sure how to get past the cloud barrier.

"Mistress, you must embark on a great journey beneath the clouds to the vast realm of the Surface. It is through this journey that you can fulfil the mission set before you by my creator, the God. It is also the only method available for you to reunite with the spirit warrior, honourable Link" Fi said. "This is no easy task Zelda. The world below is a forsaken place, and to reach it you must pierce the cloud barrier below. In living memory, no one has ever done this" Gaepora said.

Fi silently raised her arms in front of her and an orb of blue light appears between them. It then transformed into a stone tablet with an emerald in it, floated to Zelda. "This tablet will illuminate a path through the clouds to the land below. Take it and place it within the altar behind me. But in order to do that, the first thing you must do is hit the crest sitting in this room with a Skyward Strike. These blasts are formed of pure energy that charges within your blade when you lift it skyward." Fi said. Zelda, now knowing that she had a destiny she needed to follow, did exactly what she was told. She held her sword up and once it was charged, she struck the crest turning it blue and the altar appeared.

She took the table and placed it in the altar. "It is done. Until now, a cloud barrier created by the Goddess has separated the world you know from the one below. The tablet you placed into the altar has opened a small rift in the barrier. You can use it to travel through the clouds to the realm below. I have recognized you as my mistress, and so it is my duty to follow you wherever you may go. I reside within your sword and will accompany you in your travels, mistress. You may summon me whenever you require my assistance" Fi said before turning into light and going into the sword.

Gaepora walked towards Zelda. "Father" she said. "As much as I dislike the idea of you having to bear such a burden, I wish I could have protected you from such a fate. I know there is nothing I can do about it. Listen for a moment, the nature of the great apocalypse mentioned in the old texts is a complete mystery to me. But whatever it turns out to be, it seems both you and Link have big roles to play in the destiny of this land. Just think—if what this Fi says is true, then Link is alive! Alive and no doubt coming to terms with whatever it is the God has in store for him. I don't know what dangers you may have to face, especially down there… it soothes my worried heart to know that you won't be alone. Just please come back to me alive and with Link" Gaepora said. "Father… I will!" Zelda said.

"I know it's a heavy burden to shoulder and it pains me to know that I can't help you with this. But the god believes you can do this and so do I. You will do your people proud, as you do me proud like you always have." Touched Zelda started tearing up. Gaepora pulled her into a hug and said "come on, dawn is drawing near. It has been a long night for the both of us, hasn't it? We should try and get what sleep we can." Zelda nodded and they both headed back to the academy.
