Halves Of The Same Whole

Chapter 49

They know a secret

I knew they would not keep.

Now I wait for a break in the silence, 'cause it's all that you left.

Just me and these four walls again.

"I've said enough. I should go now."

"You understand Dan. Keith took Karen from you."

"The life you were supposed to have. We're the same." Peyton said.

"I lost Karen because of my choices. You lost Lucas the same way."

"Or maybe it just wasn't meant to be." Dan replied.

"Well unlike you this won't end until I get what i've earned." Peyton proclaimed.

"Keith's death wasn't on me. If you want to move on from this. Stop what you're planning." Dan advised.

Peyton smiled and made her way back inside the home.

...

Dan got back into his older model car and started to drive.

He knew where Lucas worked and decided he would take a chance and see what would happen.

The sound of his receptionist filled his office. He sighed staring at the empty screen. With him and Brooke in this place he had no inspiration or motivation to write anything of substance.

When he was informed of a visitor requesting to see him. He accepted. His heart leaping into his throat at the sight of Dan appearing in his office.

"We have no contact for a reason." Lucas said.

"I was never a father to you. Keith took on that role and you were better for it. I let my pride and jealousy get in the way."

"I have the chance to do the right thing and i'm taking it."

"Salem isn't you're son. He's Julian's. Peyton Sawyer is the real reason you're babies died."

"They had a chance Lucas. But she made sure you and Brooke lost them." Dan admitted. Before leaving the office.

Lucas felt his heart sink and stomach twist in knots.

He felt his eyes burning with unshed tears. Anger and frustation radiating. Peyton had done this because of him.

Brooke was right. Lucas couldn't concentrate on anything else.

He went home. Brooke was off that day and he knew she would be there.

When he found her she was in the living room sketching.

"I have to talk to you."

"Salem is Julian's son." Lucas said. Taking a seat next to her.

As he put his hand on hers. The look on face softened.

Which concerned Brooke. She stopped sketching.

"What else?" Brooke asked.

Lucas sighed deeply. "Our babies died because of Peyton."

"Dan told me all of this he confronted her at her house."

"They had a chance. I don't know what she did but she made sure we lost them." Lucas explained. The emotion in his voice thick.

Tears falling from her eyes quietly as she felt him wrap her in his arms.

She hit against his chest. "Let go of me! Let me go!"

This revelation brought it all back. The loss the destruction of their relationship in the aftermath.

"I need to go! I can't breath. I can't take this."

"They could have saved." Brooke said. Her body shaking as she started to cry and scream. Hitting his chest. Until she finally fell apart.

Lucas held her tightly. Securely. His own emotion resurfacing.

Brooke carried guilt and feeling as if she hadn't done enough.

Brooke couldn't process the truth that they could of been saved.

But Peyton decided she mattered more.

Her anger rage frustration grief. Had boiled over.

Brooke felt something inside her shift and knew.

She had nothing more to lose now. Peyton would pay.
