Author's note: Unfortunately, this is the chapter where Breakdown dies.

"If it pleases you, Lord Megatron, once Soundwave discovers a means of decoding the remainder of the Iacon Database, as we know he will, I would suggest the deployment of an underutilized asset." Airachnid said.

"And what asset would thst be, Airachnid?" Megatron asked. "I believe that my superior tracking skills would expedite your quest to recover the remaining Relics." Airachnid said. "Noted." Megatron said. "You are a gracious audience, my lord." Airachnid said. "Soundwave." She said to Soundwave.

"Remind me of her trustworthiness." Megatron said. "I believe we must consider the possibility of a future without Megatron." Soundwave repeated Airachnid's words from the chaos of Unicron rising.

Dreadwing examined a able of weapons, and Megatron appeared on the screen behind him. "Dreadwing." He said. "I am at your beck and call, Lord Megatron." Dreadwing said. "I wish to entrust you with a task I would normally reserve for myself. That is if you wish to prove yourself worthy of becoming my first lieutenant." Megatron said.

"That post belongs to Airachnid." Dreadwing said. "She will be missed, and I suggest you bring backup. She can be a handful, especially when cornered." Megatron said.

Airachnid, Breakdown, and Dreadwing walked through the forest at night. "Am I the only one here who considers this to be overkill on Lord Megatron's part? I mean, dispatching two of his most proficient warriord to track down one unconfirmed Energon spike." Airachnid said.

"Megatron knows me and Dreadwing here will get the job done." Breakdown said. "Actually I was referring to Dreadwing and myself." Airachnid said. Breakdown growled. "Breakdown, remain on task. This must be a unified effort." Dreadwing stopped him.

"Indeed, Breakdown. I know we've never seen eyes to eye, but that doesn't mean we can't patch things up." Airachnid said while boldly saying 'patch'. "That's it!" Breakdown yelled. "Don't!" Dreadwing warned. Airachnid used her spider legs to climb onto a tree, and launch a web at Breakdown's face-plate. He grabbed it but his servo got stuck, and he fell down.

Dreadwing started shooting at her, and Airachnid dodged, and climbed on trees, then threw more webs at Dreadwing, but he dodged them, but was hit and got stuck to a tree. The shot caused the tree Airachnid was on to collapse. She fell on branches and landed on the ground. She noticed one of her spider limbs was missing and it landed in front of her.

Breakdown ripped the web off his face-plate, readied his shoulder cannon, and shot Airachnid, then chased her. "Breakdown, don't be a fool! Release me!" Dreadwing ordered. Breakdown chased Airachnid through the forest, then came across a pool of spilled Energon. He followed the trail and found Airachnid struggling to get up.

"Easy prey." He snickered and raised his sledge hammer, but a web shot from Airachnid, restraining his arm. He tried to pull it free but failed. Airachnid smiled maliciously as Breakdown growled. Airachnid slowly raised a fully intact spider leg, then swung it at Breakdown. His screams filled the forest.

Dreadwing continued trying to pry the webs off. "Breakdown, what is your status?" He asked but got no response. "Breakdown?!" He said again.

A flashlight shined onto Breakdown's sledge hammer arm, then his body, which was literally torn to pieces. M.E.C.H. soldiers surrounded the corpse. "M.E.C.H. 1 to Silas: Our maneuvers have yielded unexpected results and a familiar face." A soldier said as his eyes landed on Breakdown's severed helm.

Deep in the bowels of an abandoned Energon mine, Starscream climbed a rocky wall. "How is it that I have been reduced to seeking Energon scraps merely to survive?" He wondered as he grabbed a tiny shard of Energon. His pede slipped and he fell down. He picked up the shard, then heard heavy footsteps, and a shadow.

Starscream followed the shadow and his optics widened in shock. He saw an Insecticon. An Insecticon on Earth?" He questioned. The Insecticon removed a large crystal of fresh Energon. "You there, scavenger, deliver that Energon to me." Starscream ordered.

The Insecticon growled, but turned away. "You dare turn back on a superior life form?! I am Commander Starscream!" Starscream declared and smacked the Insecticon, which was a great mistake. The beast swung its bug limbs at Starscream, and he scurried into a hole. "Fine! Keep the Energon! I hope you choke on it!" He shouted.

The Insecticon suddenly stopped. It left Starscream alome and walked away to where the traitorous Airachnid was. "Yes, minion. Approach me. Obey me. Worship me." She said. The Insecticon kneeled before its 'queen' and presented her the Energon crystal. "You shouldn't have." She said.

"What?! You reject a commander, but grovel at the feet of that wretch?!" Starscream yelled as he came out of his hiding spot. "Starscream. Don't get your turbines in a twist. After all, the beast and I are somewhat related. You might even say we are of one mind." Airachnid said. "Why are you here? Decepticons never return to stripped mines." Starscream said.

"You are not the only rogue Decepticon in need of Energon." Airachnid said and showed him her damaged spider leg. "Was it a run-in with the Autobots? Or did Megatron invite you on one of his field trips?" Starscream asked. "Megatron was otherwise engaged. But you should see his lackey." Airachnid said.

"You know, Airachnid, as fellow outcasts, we should consider putting aside our differences. With this creature under your control and at our disposal, we might employ it to terminate Megatron, allowing us to rule the Decepticons." Starscream suggested. "Together?" Airachnid asked.

"We would simply need to lure Megatron here, away from his support systems so that we might catch him." Starscream started. "With his guard down? An intriguing proposal. If ruling the Decepticons or spending length of time with you were of the slightest interest to me." Airachnid said.

Starscream sputtered. "Of course, you had me at 'terminate Megatron'. Payback would be sweet." Airachnid said. "However, you wish to spin it. "I would need to ensure my assassin is up to the task. Perhaps a test run is in order." Airachnid said. "What? I thought we were partners." Starscream said.

"Eviscerate him." Airachnid commanded. The Insecticon howled and ran after Starscream.

The Autobot compyter received a signal. "What is it?" Bulkhead asked. "A high frequency signal, with an embedded message." Ratchet said. "Again?" Bulkhead groaned. "Starscream." Ratchet identified. "I have obtained information of extreme interest to you. Bring medical kit." Ratchet read the message.

Starscream grasped the injury dealt to him from the Insecticon. Then a Ground-Bridge opened in front of him and Bulkhead jumped out, guns ready. "Clear." He said. Ratchet jumped through the portal with his medical kit. "Make it fast." He said.

"It wpuld appear that, like myself, Airachnid has gone rogue." Starscream said. "What's it to us?" Ratchet asked. "She's planning to retaliate against Meg-er-mankind. I can provide you with her current location." Starscream said. "I don't believe you." Ratchet said.

"Why wouldn't you? I directed you to the location of the Decepticon Space-Bridge, so you could rescue Orion Pax, didn't I?" Starscream asked. "Yeah. But then you helped M.E.C.H. steal Bumble T-Cog." Bulkhead reminded. "So? He got it back, didn't he?" Starscream asked.

Ratchet and Bulkhead walked back to the portal. "I admit aligning myself with those vile humans was a colossalerror in judgement, But, I am alone! I do what I must to survive." Starscream said, then fell to his knees and servos. "But I have paid the price. I am now the one missing his T-Cog." He groaned. "You're grounded?" Bulkhead asked.

"Thus of little, if any, threat to you. But Airachnid and her Insecticon intend to -" Starscream started. "An Insecticon?! Here?!" Ratchet interjected. "How?" Bulkhead asked. "Well, I would have asked, but I was too busy squeezing through a narrow crevice trying to keep the vermin from chewing my leg off, while Airachnid watched." Starscream said.

"The reason for our inability to locate But signal is all too clear, but how is it that you were unable to recover his remains?" Megatron asked Dreadwing. The monitor beeped. "What is it?" Megatron asked. It was a call from Airachnid. "Heard from Breakdown lately?" She asked.

"Trace the communication." Megatron ordered. "Megatron, truly you sent simple henchmen to terminate a high-ranking officer. I thought you reserved that honor for yourself." Airachnid said. "Is that a challange?" Megatron questioned. "An invitation. And since Soundwave is no doubt tracing this signal, you know where to find me." Airachnid said.

"I'll be back." Megatron said. Allow me to accompany you." Dreadwing said. "You already had your chance." Megatron said.

The Autobots found Airachnid's location as well. "The coordinates Starscream provided are within an abandoned Decepticon mine." Ratchet said. "Hold on, you just fixed him up and sent him on his way?" Arcee asked. Bee buzzed with her. "What were we supposed to do? Take him back here?" Bulkhead remarked.

"Not that I wouldn't jump at any chance to put Airachnid down, but she isn't the only one who's robbed me of a partner." Arcee said. "You weren't there, Arcee. Starscream was weak, defenseless." Bulkhead said. "And learning of the Insecticon could prove highly tactical. Starscream's intel has proved credible in the past." Ratchet said.

"Sure. When he wasn't busy stabbing us in the back." Arcee retorted. "Without the resources we possessed on Cybertron, we lack ready means of capturing and imprisoning our enemies. Nonetheless, I do not condone the termination of any defenseless life-form." Optimus said.

Megatron soared through the stormy sky, and flew into the kine and transformed. "You don't waste time." Airachnid said. "Your stay of execution has come to an end." Megatron said and the Insecticon ambushed him from above. He hurled it at a rock mound. "I will leave you two to get acquainted." Airachnid climbed to the top of the shaft.

"Bow before Megatron. Your leader." Megatron ordered. The Insecticon ran at him. "I said bo-" The creature grabbed Megatron's helm and threw him away. It then pinned him to the wall. Airachnid grinned. Megatron freed a servo and used his fusion cannon to shoot the Insecticon away, which transformed into a Cybertronian beetle. Megatron started summoning his magic, but webs were shot at his palms and cannon, rendering it and the magic useless.

The Insecticon collided with Megatron and smashed him into the wall, before tossing him up and stabbing his shoulder, drawing a little Dark Energon. The Insecticon started shooting him into the ground. Megatron stood up as the Insecticon transformed.

Airachnid snickered. The Insecticon ran at Megatron, but he backhanded it away. "You and your beast would do well to remember." Megatron unsheethed his wrist blade. "I honed my skills in the pits of Kaon!" He declared.

The Insecticon howled and charged at Megatron again, and the warlord ran at it.

Just outside the mine, a Ground-Bridge opened, and the Autobots came through. "Proceed with extreme caution." Optimus instructed.

Megatron and the Insecticon's blades collided. The Insecticon jumped around the warlord and hit him. "Finish him!" Airachnid commanded.

"Whoa. Scream never mentioned Megatron." Bulkhead said. "It would seem Starscream orchestrated this convergence in the hope that all his enemies would destroy each other on his behalf." Optimus said. "Should we intervene?" Cyclonus asked. "Nah. I wanna watch this." Chromia said. "Well, you can have whatever's left of Megatron. Airachnid's mine!" Arcee said.

"Arcee, no!" Optimus called, but Arcee transformed and drove off a ledge, transformed again, then collided with Airachnid and threw her into the wall. "You!" She growled. Arcee readied her wrist blades and charged at Airachnid as Megatron kept slashing at the Insecticon but was hit. He punched, and kicked it away, then looked up but Airachnid was gone. He turned and saw the Autobots staring down at him.

"So many surprises today." He said as he ripped the webs off his servos to use his magic again as the Insecticon climebd up the wall and lunged at him, but he swatted it away.

Arcee and Airachnid threw webs and Energin shots, until Airachnid started drilling into the wall as Arcee shot into it. She entered and crawled through it.

Megatron stomped his pede, covering a part of the floor in purple ice, making the Insecticon lose its balance. He summoned wind and blew the Insecticon off the ice, and then grabbed its bug legs, making it roar in pain. Megatron kicked the Insecticon, ripping the legs off. It ran at him and grabbed his servos, but Megatron swatted them off and used his powers to freeze its arms. He then unsheethed his wrist blade again and sliced the Insecticon's helm off. It clattered to the ground and the rest of the Insecticon fell dead.

"Let that be a warning to anyone who dares cross a gladiator of Kaon! Be they Decepticon." The Autobots jumped down and pointed their guns. "Or Autobot." Megatron finished. He took two steps forward but then fell down. "It would seem I'm unarmed and at your mercy. So, tell me, Optimus, do you intend to take me alive, or end this here and now?" Megatron asked.

Optimus aimed his cannon, but then dozens of shots erupted from the top. A bunch of Vehicons, lead by Dreadwing, surrounded the Autobots. "Oh, scrap." Bulkhead muttered.

Arcee slid down the tubnel, and her guns turned back into servos. She continued crawling until her servos landed in something sticky. Airachnid's web. "Scrap!" She muttered, then a large web covered her and she was dragged out of the tunnel and tied to a tree by Airachnid.

"This may not be the day that I take Megatron's Spark, but it is the day I remove yours -" She was shot off when a missile hit her. The attacker was Starscream. "How right you were, Airachnid. Payback is sweet!" Starscream growled as he slid down and fired another rocket as Airachnid drilled into the ground, and the missile blew up next to her.

"Deliver Megatron to us and I will allow you to live." Dreadwing said. "Never trust a 'Con. Kick Buckethead's bucket!" Bulkhead yelled. "Dreadwing, do I have your word?" Optimus asked. After a moment, Dreadwing put his gun on his back, as did Optimus. Dreadwing helped Megatron up. "My liege." He said.

"Dreadwing may have given you his word, but I did not. Destroy them!" Megatron commanded. The Vehicons all fired at them. Megatron and Dreadwing transformed and flew out of the mine.

"You disobeyed my orders in following me here. You will make a fine first lieutenant." Megatron said, and picked up speed. Dreadwing hung back for a second, but picked up speed as well.

The Autobots soon ended all the Vehicons. "That was intense." Bulkhead said.

"Now, if there's one thing I despise nearly as much as eight-leggers, it's Two-wheelers." Starscream said as he walked around Arcee. "Go on. Get it over with." Arcee said. "As I recollect, in a similar predicament, you once allowed me to live." Starscream said. Arcee braced herself, but much to her surprise, Starscream sliced the web holding her to the tree. "Consider us even." He said and walked away.

"Arcee, what is your status?" Optimus asked. "In need of assist. But alive, and so is Airachnid." Arcee said. "At least Megatron took care of the other bug problem." Bulkhead commented.

Airachnid drilled through the wall, and landed in a large tunnel. "Starscream, I vow I will have your head!" She growled. But then she heard a weird sound. She followed it, then crawled through a tunel and emerged on the othsr side. She saw Insecticons inside Stasis pods. They were everywhere. "So, my warrior was merely a scout." She said.
