Bite

Toga sighed, looking around the crowded room with ill-disguised dislike. He had never liked these things…these galas. They were a necessity, an unwelcome custom that allowed other nobles to see just how powerful the House of the Moon still was, how powerful it would remain and how much more powerful it would become.

At the firm prodding from his mate, he motioned to the conductor and the music stopped. Silence fell on the dance floor as everyone turned to look at him, waiting expectantly.

Clearing his throat, he looked at Sesshoumaru. Sleepily, the boy stood and moved to stand by his father's side. Right behind him was Kagome and she sat regally, beautifully, by Sesshoumaru. Smiling at the picture they made, Toga cleared his throat again. "Welcome, powerful denizens of the West, to the Palace of the Moon. We graciously invite you to our home in honor of the young Heir and the acceptance of a Western Ward, to the Moon Palace."

Murmurs filled the room, too many, too quiet, to be distinct. He watched his subjects, eyes narrowed, waiting for the questions, the objections. Only one person stepped forward, a young male, reptile. A dragon. He had expected this. "What is it, Kotsei-san?"

"Ryūkotsusei -Sama," reminded the dragon absently as he studied the young pair. The heir he was not concerned with. He had seen the child, blessed him with the Northern gift as was protocol and was keeping a careful eye on him. It was the girl he was curious about, the girl who held his interest. "You've given your boy a pet?" he asked quietly, studying her. He reached out to pet her, wondering if her fur was as soft as it looked.

Before Toga could warn him, the girl snapped out. Sharp teeth locked around purple hued skin and dug in, a vicious growl escaping a thick throat as that soft fur stood on end.
