Chapter 11: The Phil Cup - Part 2
Standing at the centre of the arena, Phil raised his arms high, commanding the attention of the buzzing crowd, ready to signal for the next match in this great tournament so far.
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, let me hear you for our next contender!" Phil began, building up the suspense. "The one, the only, the kid with destiny in his eyes and a Keyblade in his hand! Give it up for the junior hero wanting to become a full-time legend, Sora!"
The crowd erupted in cheers as Sora stepped onto the stone platform, waving to the enthusiastic audience. Sonic and Shadow observed from ringside, their eyes fixed on the upcoming match. Meanwhile, Donald sat with Goofy on a bench nearby, the latter nursing an icepack on his head, still recovering from the intense battle with Knuckles.
"How are you feeling, Goofy?" Donald asked, checking up on his friend.
Goofy was still out of it, holding the ice pack on his head firmly.
"Gosh, I feel like I've been hit by a bus… Uncle Scrooge..." Goofy replied in a daze.
Donald sighed and face palmed by Goofy's remark. He had seen his friend take some heavy hits before, but never like this.
From the centre of the arena, Phil continued to hype up the atmosphere, his voice echoing through the coliseum.
"This young hero has the heart of a lion and the courage to face any challenge. Let's see if he can make the Phil Cup the island of relevancy for his journey!"
"So, this is what it feels like to be somewhat famous," Sora remarked with a smile, he could feel the warmth in his heart. "The crowd are behind me, I better not let them down."
As Sora stood tall, Phil's booming voice reverberated through the arena, infusing an extra layer of excitement into the already charged atmosphere. The crowd's cheers echoed off the walls, creating a palpable sense of anticipation for the impending showdown.
"Now, let's welcome a fighter from a distant realm, with a lineage steeped in bravery and heroism," Phil announced, his words captivating the audience and drawing their attention to Sora's formidable opponent. "She's a warrior with a noble heart, ready to test her mettle against any challenger. Get ready to witness the valour of the legendary princess—put your hands together for...Lucina!"
The crowd, a sea of eager faces, leaned forward from their seats, curiosity piqued by the introduction of a fighter from a distant realm. And then, she emerged. Sonic, Shadow, Donald, and Goofy watched from the sidelines in awe as this new warrior stepped forth to face Sora.
With a graceful yet determined stride, Lucina stepped into the spotlight of the Olympic Colosseum, commanding attention with every step. Her presence exuded an aura of quiet strength and unwavering resolve, a testament to her lineage steeped in bravery and heroism. Clad in a regal ensemble that mirrored her noble origins, she wore a flowing azure cape that billowed behind her like a banner of defiance against the darkness.
But it was her armour that truly captured the audience's gaze—a polished blend of silver and cobalt, adorned with intricate engravings that spoke of battles fought and victories won. Each piece was meticulously crafted, designed not just for protection but as a symbol of her unwavering dedication to her cause.
As this new warrior continued to the centre of the arena, Phil continued commentating to the eager and intrigued crowd.
"Armed with the legendary Parallel Falchion," Phil's voice reverberated through the Colosseum, "she can use this blade steeped in the essence of both past and future. It is a weapon of unmatched power and legacy."
In her hand, Lucina gripped the Parallel Falchion tightly, the blade gleaming in the flickering light of the arena. The audience could feel the hum of power emanating from the weapon, eager to be unleashed upon any who dared to challenge its wielder. It was a testament to her lineage as the heir to greatness, a symbol of her strength and determination.
As Lucina raised her legendary weapon in a grand salute to the crowd, Sora's heart raced with a mix of excitement and apprehension. The aura of power emanating from the warrior before him was undeniable, her determination a tangible force that seemed to ripple through the air.
From the sidelines, Sora's friends watched with a mixture of awe and curiosity, their own excitement palpable.
"Whoa, that's one sweet-looking sword," Sonic exclaimed, his green eyes following Lucina's every move as she worked the crowd like a seasoned pro.
"Indeed, a unique weapon," Shadow agreed, his usually stoic demeanor betraying a hint of admiration for the blade in Lucina's grasp.
Donald, ever the inquisitive one, couldn't help but voice his thoughts.
"Do you think the Keyblade can outmatch it?" he asked, his voice tinged with intrigue.
Shadow's response was cryptic yet telling, his gaze unwavering as he watched the unfolding spectacle.
"We shall see," he replied, his crimson eyes never leaving the gleaming blade in Lucina's hand.
Meanwhile, in the shadows of the Colosseum walkways, Hades lurked with his trademark smirk, his fiery eyes alight with mischief and intrigue. The Lord of the Underworld had seen his fair share of battles, but there was something about this match-up that piqued his interest like never before.
"Well, well, well," he murmured to himself in that trademark sarcastic tone of his, his voice dripping with the kind of wit that could turn Medusa to stone. "Seems like we've got ourselves a new contender in the ring. And she's got a sword fancier than a peacock in a tuxedo."
His gaze flickered towards Lucina, sizing her up with a blend of amusement and scepticism.
"Oh, sure, she's got the whole 'noble warrior' thing going on," he continued, his tone laced with playful mockery. "But let's not forget, folks, it's not the size of the sword that counts—it's how you swing it."
With a chuckle that echoed through the dim corridors, Hades leaned back against the stone wall, crossing his arms with a theatrical flourish.
"Looks like our boy Sora might have his work cut out for him," he mused, a mischievous glint. "This is going to be great entertainment.
Back in the arena and watching Lucina closely as she entered the battlefield, Sora knew he had to stay focused. He couldn't afford to be distracted by the daunting presence of his opponent, no matter how formidable she appeared. The Phil Cup was his ticket to starting his quest, his chance to prove himself as a true hero. This Lucina looked tough, but Sora was willing to do everything in his power to advance to the semi-finals.
From their vantage point on the sidelines, Sonic, Shadow, Donald, and the still-dazed Goofy observed Lucina's entrance with keen interest, their eyes drawn to the undeniable power and presence she exuded.
"Whoa," Sonic exclaimed, his curiosity sparked by the sight before them. "She looks like one tough cookie for Sora to go up against. This'll be quite the showdown to showcase his skills."
Shadow, ever the picture of composure, shot Sonic a knowing glance as they observed the unfolding scene.
"It seems Sora will have his hands full with the ever stoic Lucina, Princess of Ylisse," Shadow remarked, his tone as blunt as ever.
"Stoic, huh?" Sonic couldn't resist a jab at his brooding companion. "Sounds like someone I know. Maybe you two could start a club?"
Shadow turned his head to give Sonic a deadpan stare, his crimson eyes boring into the blue blur with an intensity that could rival even the most fearsome of foes.
"What in the world are you blabbering about?" Shadow retorted, unimpressed by Sonic's attempt at humor.
"Aw, come on, Shads, lighten up," Sonic replied with a grin, the hint of a chuckle in his voice. "I'm just messing with you. But seriously, got any juicy intel on Sora's royal opponent?"
Shadow's expression softened slightly, though his trademark scowl remained firmly in place.
"Intel?" he repeated, his tone skeptical. "I have my sources, Sonic. Let's just say I know more than you think."
Sonic raised an eyebrow, a playful glint in his emerald eyes.
"Ooh, mysterious," he teased, nudging Shadow with an elbow. "But seriously, spill the beans, Ultimate Lifeform."
With a resigned sigh, Shadow relented, knowing he couldn't keep Sonic in the dark for long.
"Fine," he conceded with a deep huff. "She hails from a distant realm, fighting tooth and nail to protect her world from a looming catastrophe."
"A catastrophe?" Donald interjected, his feathers ruffling with concern. "The Heartless, perhaps?"
Shadow shook his head as he responded, "Not the Heartless, as far as I know. Her world faces a different threat altogether—a dark dragon named Grima, hell-bent on bringing ruin to everything in its path. Lucina has risen to oppose this malevolent force."
"So, she's not just a princess. She's a warrior fighting to save her entire realm," Sonic mused, a newfound respect evident in his voice.
"Indeed," Shadow confirmed with a nod. "Despite her royal lineage, she's proven herself to be a fierce and formidable fighter."
Meanwhile, Goofy, still feeling the lingering effects of his earlier tussle with Knuckles, blinked in confusion as he turned to Shadow with a puzzled expression.
"Say, Shadow, how do ya know all this about Lucina?" he inquired, his curiosity getting the better of him.
Shadow merely shrugged, his gaze briefly flitting to the unfolding scene below.
"Like I said earlier, I have my sources, Goofy" he replied cryptically, leaving his companions to ponder his mysterious ways.
Sonic couldn't help but chuckle at Shadow's enigmatic response.
"Always keeping us guessing, huh?" he remarked, giving Shadow a playful nudge.
With a slight smirk, Shadow folded his arms, maintaining his air of secrecy.
"Look," Donald interjected, pointing towards the centre of the arena. "Looks like they're about to have a good ol' stare-down."
As Lucina shifted her focus from the roaring crowd to her opponent, Sora's hand instinctively tightened around the grip of his Keyblade. Drawing a deep breath, he squared his shoulders, meeting Lucina's unwavering gaze with equal determination.
Lucina remained stoic, her expression betraying little emotion as she assessed her adversary. Yet, beneath her calm exterior, there was a flicker of respect in her eyes—a recognition of Sora's courage and resolve.
With a hint of friendly taunt lacing her words, Lucina spoke, her tone cool and collected.
"So, you're the one they call 'Sora,' huh? Let's see what you can do!"
Sora felt a spark ignite within him at her words, his competitive spirit rising to the challenge.
"I'm ready for this!" he retorted, his voice brimming with determination. He couldn't afford to let his guard down, not with the Phil Cup—and his dreams of becoming a true hero—hanging in the balance.
Lucina's response was simple yet brimming with confidence.
"Prepare yourself, Keyblade wielder!"
The tension crackled in the air between them, Sora and Lucina stood on opposite ends of the arena—a true clash of personalities, one stoic and composed, the other eager and spirited. With the weight of their respective worlds resting on their shoulders, they prepared to face off in a battle that would test not only their strength but their resolve as well.
"Are you both ready?" Phil's booming voice echoed across the Colosseum, cutting through the anticipation like a sword through air.
Lucina's grip tightened on her Parallel Falchion, her resolve shining bright in the flickering light of the arena.
"Ready," she affirmed, her voice steady and determined.
Sora stood tall, his Keyblade poised and ready, determination etched into every line of his young face.
"Ready," he echoed, his voice tinged with determination.
And then, with a final glance between them, Phil's voice thundered, "BEGIN!"
Sora v Lucina
(Battle Music: Attack - Fire Emblem - Super Smash Bros Brawl)
Lucina wasted no time in launching her assault, her Parallel Falchion slashing through the air with deadly precision, Sora's instincts kicked into high gear. With a lightning-fast reflex, his Redemption's Echo Keyblade moved in a blur of motion, meeting her strike with impeccable timing and skill.
The clash of their blades echoed throughout the arena, each strike ringing out like a battle cry. Sora's movements were fluid and precise, his Keyblade dancing with grace and agility as he countered Lucina's every move.
But Lucina was no mere opponent to be underestimated. With each swing of her Falchion, she threw in a taunt or two, her stoic demeanour belying the fierce determination burning within her.
"Is that the best you've got?" she jeered, her voice cutting through the chaos of battle. "Come at me!"
Sora gritted his teeth, his determination unwavering as he met her taunts with a determined resolve.
"You'll have to do better than that, Princess of Ylisse!" he shot back, his voice filled with equal parts confidence and determination.
"Mock all you want, I will prevail," she grumbled, her voice laced with irritation as she renewed her assault, her strikes coming faster and fiercer than before.
As their blades clashed and sparks flew, the crowd erupted into cheers, their excitement reaching a fever pitch. Each strike and parry only fuelled their enthusiasm further, as they watched with bated breath, eager to see which warrior would emerge victorious in this epic showdown.
"Keep it up Sora!" Sonic cheered on from the sidelines.
Donald and Goofy, seemingly feeling better, watched on tensely, seeing their friend going toe to toe with this powerful warrior.
Shadow watched closely, his crimson eyes glued to the bout in front of him.
The two combatants danced across the arena, their movements fluid and precise. Each slash was blocked or parried, the two remained defensive but utilised their speed and agility around the battlefield.
Gaining distance and with a burst of determination, Sora summoned forth his magic, unleashing a torrent of Fire and Blizzard spells. The spells crackled with energy as they hurtled towards Lucina, their power undeniable.
"Magic..." Lucina muttered under her breath, a hint of frustration tainting her stoic façade. "It had to be magic!"
Despite the annoyance of facing Sora's magical onslaught, Lucina remained unfazed. With grace and precision, she dodged each spell with ease, her movements fluid as she closed in on her target.
Closing the distance between them, Lucina launched a flurry of strikes, each one aimed at exploiting Sora's vulnerabilities. The two continued their intense exchange of blows, both parrying each slash and swipe thrown at them. Lucina's keen eyes searched for any sign of weakness in her opponent's defence. With each clash of their weapons, she analysed Sora's movements, looking for the slightest hesitation or lapse in concentration.
And then, she saw it—a fraction of a second where Sora's guard faltered ever so slightly, a tiny window of opportunity amidst the chaos of battle.
Without hesitation, Lucina seized her chance, her body moving with instinctual precision as she closed the distance between them in a blur of motion. In that split second, she saw the opening she had been waiting for—the perfect opportunity to strike.
With a swift and fluid movement, Lucina unleashed her Dancing Blade technique, her blade moving with blinding speed as it descended upon Sora. The air crackled with energy as her sword sliced through the air, aiming for the precise spot where she knew Sora's defences were weakest.
Caught off guard by the sudden onslaught, Sora barely had time to react. He raised his Keyblade in a desperate attempt to defend himself, but it was too late. Lucina's blade struck true, the force of the impact sending shockwaves rippling through the air.
Sora staggered backwards under the force of Lucina's attack, a hush fell over the arena. Time seemed to slow to a crawl as the weight of her blow bore down upon him, threatening to overwhelm him with its sheer power.
But then, with a defiant cry that pierced through the silence, Sora regained his footing. His determination burned brighter than ever, a fierce flame that refused to be extinguished by even the most formidable of opponents.
"Whoa, what a move from Lucina!" Phil's voice boomed over the crowd, his words a reminder of the danger Sora faced. "Sora needs to watch out for that if he wants to come out on top!"
From the sidelines, Sora's friends shouted words of encouragement, their voices ringing out in unwavering support. Sonic, Donald, and Goofy cheered him on, their faith in their friend unshakable.
"Go get 'em, Sora!" Sonic yelled, his voice filled with excitement.
"You can do it!" Donald quacked, his feathers ruffling with anticipation.
"Yeah, Sora, show 'em what you're made of!" Goofy exclaimed, his trademark optimism shining through.
Meanwhile, Shadow remained silent, his eyes never leaving the battlefield as he continued to analyse the match with keen intensity. He knew that Sora faced a formidable opponent in Lucina, and he was determined to see how the young Keyblade wielder would rise to the challenge.
Lucina pressed her relentless assault, Sora found himself on the defensive once again, his Keyblade a blur of motion as he blocked and parried her lightning-fast strikes. Her speed was impressive, but Sora refused to back down, his determination burning brighter with each passing moment.
Then, in a sudden twist of fate, Sora spotted an opening amidst Lucina's flurry of attacks. With lightning reflexes, he seized the opportunity, closing the distance between them with a burst of speed.
Channelling his Slapshot ability, Sora unleashed a devastating uppercut slash, his Keyblade slicing through the air with precision. The attack caught Lucina off guard, sending her stumbling backwards with a surprised grunt.
"Damn!" Lucina muttered under her breath, her usually stoic demeanour cracking for a fleeting moment as she struggled to regain her balance.
"Great hit, pal!" Sonic's voice carried over the din of battle, his words a welcome boost of morale for Sora. "Keep it up!"
Bolstered by his friend's support, Sora braced himself for Lucina's next onslaught. With lightning-fast reflexes, he anticipated her movements and launched into a swift combo, his Keyblade flashing with each precise strike.
But Lucina was no stranger to combat, and she met Sora's attack with skilful precision. With a swift countermove, she turned the tables, sending both warriors careening backwards across the arena in a flurry of motion.
As Sora and Lucina skidded to a halt, the tension in the arena reached a fever pitch. The crowd held its breath, captivated by the spectacle unfolding before them. Sensing the gravity of the moment, Phil couldn't help but comment on the last counter move.
"Now that was a move worthy of the Phil Cup!" Phil exclaimed, his voice echoing through the arena. "But what's next? Can Sora pull off another comeback, or will Lucina maintain her momentum?"
As the anticipation mounted, Sora felt a surge of determination welling up inside him. He knew that he needed to try something different if he wanted to gain the upper hand in this fierce battle. Clutching his hand to his chest, he felt a familiar warmth spreading through him, a powerful aura enveloping both him and his Keyblade.
Lucina, taken aback by the sudden change, couldn't hide her confusion.
"What is he up too?" she muttered, her voice tinged with disbelief. "Is he having some sort of issue with his chest?"
"Oh, you'll see," Donald chuckled from the sidelines. The magical duck knew what was coming next.
Sora remained focused, his mind racing with possibilities. With a quiet determination, he muttered under his breath, "AiAi, give me a hand, would you?"
In a dazzling display of summoning magic, AiAi appeared by Sora's side in a flash of light, ready to join the fray. The adorable inhabitant of the Super Monkey Ball universe stood tall and determined, eager to lend his aid to Sora in the heat of battle.
From the sidelines, Sonic couldn't help but grin at the sight of AiAi.
"Oh yeah, AiAi! He's gonna help Sora kick some serious butt!"
Shadow, ever the observant strategist, smirked in approval.
"Good thinking, kid," he muttered under his breath, acknowledging Sora's resourcefulness in summoning aid when needed.
"Go get her, AiAi!" Goofy cried out in support of the barbary macaque, who was ready to aid in his clear round ball.
But Lucina, her stoic demeanour cracking with frustration, turned to Phil nearby, her voice filled with incredulity.
"Phil!" she called out, her tone laced with annoyance. "What mockery is this?! How can summons be allowed?"
Phil, unfazed by Lucina's outburst, met her gaze with a knowing smirk.
"Did you not read the fine print on the forms?" he replied, his tone teasing. "It clearly states at Rule 2001: Summons are allowed in The Phil Cup. It's fair game."
Lucina's expression darkened at Phil's response, her frustration boiling over.
"Oh, damn it!" she exclaimed, her voice ringing out across the arena.
"No tricks, just the rules," Phil remarked.
"Rather ludicrous rules if you ask me!" Lucina replied in frustration. "But fine, whatever!"
"AiAi," Sora commanded, pointing his Keyblade towards Lucina, who was truly annoyed by the situation. "Go play tag with Lucina!"
The monkey summon smiled at Sora and then got to work, he built up the speed in his ball and the sphere became a blur as AiAi darted forward with incredible agility. Lucina's annoyance only grew as she braced herself for the incoming assault, her grip tightening on her Parallel Falchion.
With a mischievous grin plastered on his face, AiAi began his playful dance around Lucina, his movements unpredictable and erratic. With each pass, he accelerated, creating a whirlwind of motion that left Lucina struggling to keep up. Her swings with her sword just cut at the air, missing the speeding monkey mocking her.
"You are seriously pissing me off!" Lucina's frustration echoed through the arena, her voice strained as she tried in vain to anticipate AiAi's next move.
But AiAi remained relentless, his agile antics keeping Lucina on her toes. With lightning speed, he darted in and out of her reach, his evasive manoeuvres frustrating her attempts to strike back.
With a burst of agility, AiAi leapt into the air, somersaulting over Lucina's head before landing gracefully on the other side. The crowd watched in awe as AiAi continued his mesmerizing display of speed and agility, his movements a blur of motion.
"No monkeying around from Sora and AiAi here, folks. It's all business!" Phil's voice boomed through the arena, his excitement palpable as he called the action.
As AiAi continued to weave around Lucina with unmatched agility, her frustration reached a boiling point. Despite her best efforts, she couldn't land a single hit on the elusive monkey summon.
"STAY STILL!" Lucina shouted out in annoyance, swiping at the air as AiAi continued to dodge and roll away with speed.
With each failed swipe, her movements grew increasingly sloppy, her focus slipping as her agitation mounted.
From the sidelines, Shadow watched the battle unfold with keen eyes, his sharp instincts honed in on the perfect moment to strike. Seeing an opening amidst Lucina's frustration, he called out to Sora, his voice cutting through the chaos of battle.
"Get in there, kid! Finish it!" Shadow's words were a beacon of clarity in the midst of the turmoil, and Sora nodded in determination, knowing that this was his moment to seize victory.
With a burst of speed, Sora launched himself into action, his Keyblade flashing as he closed the distance between himself and Lucina. With AiAi still keeping her distracted, Lucina foolishly turned her back for a split second, unaware of the danger looming behind her.
Seizing the opportunity, Sora unleashed a barrage of swift and precise strikes, his Keyblade slicing through the air with unstoppable force. Each blow landed with pinpoint accuracy, driving home the full weight of Sora's determination and skill.
With lightning-fast reflexes, Lucina attempted to defend herself, but Sora's relentless assault left her little room to manoeuvre. The brunt of his combo struck her with unforgiving intensity, each strike sending shockwaves rippling through her body.
The crowd erupted into cheers as Sora's onslaught drove Lucina to her knees, her strength waning under the relentless assault. Phil's voice boomed over the cacophony of sound, his excitement palpable as he shouted to the crowd.
"Sora has Lucina's number, folks! He's giving it everything he's got!"
Surrounded by the deafening roar of the crowd, Sora's onslaught continued with relentless intensity. As AiAi's time limit on the battlefield expired and the monkey vanished from sight, Sora found newfound strength within himself. With Lucina worn down by the prolonged battle, Sora's strikes came with unparalleled force, each blow landing with enough power to shake the very foundation of the arena. With every hit, Sora's determination blazed even brighter, his unwavering resolve propelling him forward as he fought tooth and nail to secure victory.
Despite Lucina's valiant efforts to withstand Sora's relentless assault and block his attacks, the sheer ferocity of his strikes began to take its toll. With each bone-shaking impact, her defences crumbled, and exhaustion threatened to overwhelm her. Lucina teetered on the brink of defeat, her strength waning as Sora pressed his advantage.
"Finish it, Sora!" Sonic called out, his voice filled with urgency and encouragement. "You've got her on the ropes!"
With a resolute nod, Sora surged forward once more, his Keyblade a blur of motion as he launched into a swift and jabbing combo. Each strike landed with pinpoint precision, the force behind them sending shockwaves rippling through Lucina's body.
The first hit caught Lucina off guard, staggering her backwards as she struggled to maintain her footing. Before she could recover, Sora followed up with a second strike, driving her further back with the sheer force of his assault.
As the combo continued, Lucina found herself unable to defend against Sora's relentless barrage. With each successive blow, her strength waned, her vision swimming as she fought to stay upright.
Finally, with a decisive jab, Sora delivered the finishing blow. His Keyblade connected with a resounding impact, sending Lucina tumbling backwards with a cry of pain. The force of the blow knocked her sword from her grasp, the weapon clattering to the ground with a loud echo that reverberated through the arena.
With a heavy thud, Lucina crashed to the ground, her back hitting the unforgiving stone floor with a jarring impact. Stunned and defeated, she lay there for a moment, the weight of Sora's final combo proving too much to bear.
"Sora did it!" Donald exclaimed, his voice filled with pride and excitement. "He really showed 'em!"
"Hot dog, what a match!" Goofy chimed in, his trademark optimism shining through despite the intensity of the battle.
"Way to go, pal!" Sonic cheered, his enthusiasm infectious as he applauded Sora's victory.
Even Shadow, the stoic observer, couldn't help but offer a nod of acknowledgement towards Sora. His eyes remained fixed on the centre of the ring, a silent testament to the respect he held for the young Keyblade wielder's skill and determination.
As the crowd erupted into cheers and applause, Phil, the master of ceremonies, made his way onto the battlefield, his authoritative voice cutting through the din of excitement.
"Ladies and gentlemen, what a match!" Phil's excitement was palpable as he addressed the gathered spectators. "We've witnessed an incredible display of skill and determination from both fighters, but in the end, there can only be one winner."
With a dramatic flourish, Phil gestured towards Sora, who stood tall and victorious beside him. "And that winner is... Sora!"
The arena thundered with applause and cheers as Sora's victory was announced, the culmination of a hard-fought battle that had captivated the hearts of all who watched. And as Sora basked in the adulation of the crowd, he knew that this victory was not just his own, but a testament to the bonds of friendship and the power of determination. With his friends cheering him on from the sidelines, Sora looked forward to the challenges that lay ahead, ready to face whatever trials awaited him on his journey to become a true hero.
With the roar of the crowd still echoing through the arena and the electric atmosphere pulsating around her, Lucina struggled to rise from the floor. As she sat up, her gaze met Sora's, who stood before her with a hand extended in a gesture of sportsmanship.
"Good match," Sora said with a genuine smile, his voice carrying over the noise of the crowd.
With a nod of acknowledgment, Lucina reached out and clasped Sora's hand, allowing him to help her to her feet. Despite the defeat, her resolve remained unbroken, and she spoke with stoic determination.
"I may not agree with the use of summons in battle, Sora" Lucina began, her voice calm and measured, "but I cannot deny the effectiveness of your strategy. Kudos on that move and fair game. It was indeed a great bout"
With that said, Lucina released Sora's hand and retrieved her sword, preparing to depart from the arena. However, before she left, she turned back to face Sora with a determined expression.
"However, I want a rematch one day," Lucina declared firmly, her eyes meeting Sora's with unwavering resolve. "And when that time comes, no annoying summons, understand?"
Sora nodded, a confident smile playing on his lips as he accepted Lucina's challenge.
"Sure thing," he replied, his tone filled with respect for his worthy opponent. "I'll be ready whenever you are."
"Until then, fair well and good luck on your journey, Sora," Lucina remarked, a slight grin showing on her features.
With a nod of acknowledgment, Lucina turned and walked away, her footsteps echoing against the stone floor of the arena. As she disappeared from view, Sora couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation for their next encounter, knowing that their rivalry would only serve to make them both stronger in the battles to come.
Gateway Shadows
"What a match!" Hades exclaimed in awe, his fiery eyes gleaming with intrigue as he watched the intense battle unfold between Sora and Lucina. "That could have been a showstopper in the Hades cup!"
"If you say so," Cloud replied bluntly, his stoic demeanor unchanged as he leaned against the wall, facing Hades with a cool gaze.
"Alright, pretty boy, you're up next. Get to it," Hades ordered, gesturing for Cloud to prepare for his own match.
Without a word, Cloud nodded, his resolve evident in the set of his jaw as he left the shadows of the gateway behind him. With determined strides, he made his way toward the arena, ready to face his opponent.
As Cloud departed, Hades watched him go with a thoughtful expression, his mind already racing with schemes and plans. There was something about Cloud that unsettled him, a nagging feeling that there was more to the swordsman than met the eye.
"There's something off about that Cloud kid," Hades mused aloud, his voice tinged with a hint of suspicion. "And Knuckles won't be laying a finger on that blue rat. Plan C it is, then. Always have a Plan C handy, that's what I always say."
Arena
The arena buzzed with anticipation as Phil's voice echoed through the packed Olympic Colosseum.
"Ladies and gentlemen, our next match features the one and only royal court magician, the one, the only, Donald Duck!" Phil's enthusiastic proclamation was met with a lackluster response – a few crickets chirped in Donald's direction, prompting an irritated quack from the duck.
Donald waddled into the centre of the arena, staff in hand, determined to prove his magical prowess. The crowd, indifferent to the short-tempered duck, seemed more interested in the upcoming spectacle. However, that indifference shifted to thunderous applause when Phil announced Donald's opponent.
"And facing off against our feathered friend, make some noise for the legendary Cloud Strife!"
The cheers from the crowd erupted into a deafening roar. Sonic, Goofy, and Sora exchanged surprised glances. Even the stoic Shadow couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. The atmosphere crackled with energy as Cloud, adorned in his iconic SOLDIER attire, entered the arena, his massive Buster Sword gleaming in the arena lights.
Sonic nudged Sora and Goofy, grinning from ear to ear.
"That sword is humungous! This is gonna be one heck of a match!"
Goofy scratched his head, looking perplexed. "Gawrsh, he looks kinda dangerous, don't ya think?"
Sora, though inexperienced, could sense the intensity radiating from Cloud. The Colosseum seemed to shrink in the presence of the renowned swordsman. The crowd's excitement intensified as Cloud took his stance, ready for battle.
Shadow, standing at a distance, observed Cloud with a discerning gaze. He could feel an aura of brooding power emanating from the spiky-haired warrior. There was more to Cloud than met the eye, and Shadow's keen instincts told him that this match would unveil a deeper layer of the enigmatic swordsman.
Donald v Cloud
(Battle Music: Let The Battle Begin - Final Fantasy VII)
The Colosseum roared with excitement as Cloud and Donald faced off in the centre of the arena. The clash of magical energy and the gleam of the Buster Sword filled the air with anticipation. The crowd, on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaited the spectacle about to unfold.
Cloud, with his iconic Buster Sword in hand, wasted no time. He lunged forward with swift, calculated movements, closing the gap between him and Donald. The Morning Star staff clashed against the massive blade, the sound echoing through the arena.
Donald, undeterred by the sheer size of Cloud's weapon, swung his staff with surprising agility. Magic crackled in the air as he cast spells with practiced ease. Fire erupted from his staff, followed by a freezing Blizzard that enveloped the immediate vicinity.
Cloud, with his SOLDIER training, skilfully dodged and parried the magical onslaught. The crowd erupted into cheers and gasps at the display of skill from both combatants. Sonic, Sora, Goofy, and Shadow watched in awe as the battle unfolded, each move executed with precision and flair.
Amidst the chaos, Donald raised his staff high, and a surge of energy enveloped him. Thunder crackled in the air, a dazzling display of magic that left everyone stunned. Sora's eyes widened in disbelief by what he was seeing.
"Thunder? When did he learn that?"
Sonic grinned, appreciating the unexpected twist.
"Looks like the duck's been practicing some new tricks!"
Even Goofy, usually caught off guard, nodded approvingly.
"Well, I'll be! That's a mighty impressive move, Donald!"
Cloud, momentarily taken aback by the unexpected Thunder magic, regrouped quickly. The surprise on his face was replaced by a focused determination. Thunder, however, was not enough to throw off the seasoned warrior.
Gathering his strength, Cloud unleashed a series of powerful attacks. He twirled the Buster Sword in a dazzling display, creating a whirlwind of steel that sent shockwaves through the arena. Donald, despite his newfound Thunder ability, struggled to keep up with Cloud's relentless assault.
Sora and the others could sense the battle taking a serious turn. Cloud, driven by a strength that seemed to transcend the physical, displayed a mastery of his abilities that was nothing short of awe-inspiring.
Sonic leaned over to Shadow, whispering, "There's something odd about this Cloud guy. Can you sense it?"
Shadow, his crimson eyes narrowing, nodded. "The darkness within him is stirring. It's like a storm waiting to break free."
As the battle intensified, Cloud's attacks became more ferocious. He closed in on Donald with a speed and precision that seemed impossible for someone wielding such a massive weapon. Donald, despite his magical prowess, found himself on the defensive.
Cloud's onslaught continued, his slashes became a mesmerizing dance of steel. The Buster Sword moved with a grace that defied its colossal size, each strike a calculated assault on Donald's defences. The magical clashes between the Morning Star staff and the Buster Sword painted a scene of unequal struggle.
The once-cheering crowd fell into a stunned silence as Cloud's overwhelming dominance unfolded before their eyes. Sonic, usually the epitome of confidence, couldn't hide his concern.
"Donald is getting the crap kicked out of him!" he remarked, his worry evident in his voice.
Donald, valiantly attempting to withstand the onslaught, found himself bombarded by a relentless barrage of slashes and hits. Cloud's speed and precision were awe-inspiring, tearing through the magical defences that Donald desperately tried to erect.
"This isn't good!" Sora stated in concern.
As Donald struggled to maintain his composure, Goofy spotted a white towel nearby. Panic etched on his face, he snatched the towel and threw it into the midst of the battle, hoping to put an end to the one-sided confrontation.
The white fabric fluttered through the air, catching Cloud's attention. He paused, the Buster Sword held in mid-air as he regarded the thrown towel. The Colosseum, once filled with the clash of metal and magic, now echoed with an eerie stillness. Phil, still calling the match, squinted as he observed the unexpected interruption.
"What's this? Goofy throwing in the towel? Does that mean..."
Before Phil could finish, Cloud stepped back, ceasing his relentless assault. The hushed silence of the Colosseum intensified as Donald, battered and bruised, slumped to the ground. The white towel lay near him, a symbol of acknowledgment that the battle had reached a point of no return.
The heroes rushed to Donald's side, concern etched on their faces. Sora, Sonic, and Shadow helped him up, their eyes reflecting a mix of disappointment and relief. The crowd, once captivated by the intense clash, now murmured with a mixture of confusion and disappointment.
"Winner by forfeit, Cloud!" Phil announced in shock, he just witnessed a complete smackdown.
Cloud, without a hint of triumph or celebration, turned away and disappeared into the shadows of the Gateway. The boos from some disgruntled fans mingled with the scattered applause, creating an atmosphere of discontent.
Sonic, Sora, Goofy, and Shadow gathered around the defeated Donald. The duck, though battered and bruised, managed a weak smile.
"Well, that didn't go as planned, huh?"
"You gave it your all, Donald. That Thunder spell was pretty impressive." Said Sonic, trying to raise the spirits of his fallen friend.
Donald grinned, wincing at the soreness in his body.
"Just thought I'd surprise everyone. Didn't expect Cloud to be so... intense."
Sonic chuckled, "Intense is an understatement. But hey, it's all in good fun, right?"
With a collective nod, the group helped Donald to his feet, ready to face whatever challenges awaited them in the Phil Cup. The echoes of the battle lingered in the air, leaving a sense of both camaraderie and mystery. The echoes of the fight between Cloud and Donald lingered in the air, creating a charged atmosphere in the Colosseum. Phil, with a concerned look on his face, approached Donald and the group.
"Donald, are you alright there?" Phil inquired, eyeing the duck's somewhat dishevelled appearance.
Donald, still a bit woozy from the pummelling he received, managed a weak smile.
"Yeah, just need a Cure spell or a potion, and I'll be as good as new."
Phil nodded approvingly. "Good to hear. Take the time you need. There's an hour interval before the semi-finals. Go heal up, take a break and get a soda or something."
As Phil turned his attention to the next matchups, he looked to Sonic, the confident blue hedgehog who had been observing the scene with a grin.
"Blue, it's you up against Knuckles."
Sonic cracked his knuckles, a cocky smile on his face.
"Alright, Knuckles, get ready to eat my dust."
Phil then turned to Sora, the young Keyblade wielder saw the grizzled features of the trainer of heroes looking concerned.
"Kid, you got Cloud," Phil confirmed, relaying the information to the spikey-haired hero.
Sora's eyes widened at the realization of the challenge ahead. Cloud, the warrior who had just dismantled Donald, was now his opponent. He took a deep breath, trying to muster courage.
"I'll give it my best shot," Sora replied, trying to build up the confidence he showed against Lucina.
"Alright, everyone, you've got one hour, Phil announced. "Go heal up, prepare, and come back ready for the semi-finals. Don't keep the crowd waiting!"
With that, the group dispersed, each heading in different directions to tend to their wounds and make preparations for the upcoming battles. Donald, accompanied by Goofy and Sora, made their way to a designated healing area.
As they walked, Goofy looked at Donald with concern.
"You sure you're gonna be okay, Donald?"
Donald waved off the worry with a dismissive quack.
"Ah, it's just a scratch. A little Cure magic, and I'll be be good as new."
Arriving at the lobby area, Sora cast a Cure spell on Donald, who felt the restorative magic wash over him. The duck mage's vigour returned, and he hopped back onto his webbed feet, ready to support his friends in the Semi Finals.
Meanwhile, Sonic headed off to prepare for his match against Knuckles, a friendly rivalry brewing between the two friends. Sora, with a mix of excitement and nervousness, readied himself for the impending clash with Cloud. The echoes of the earlier battle and the mystery surrounding Cloud's connection to darkness lingered in the back of Sora's mind.
As the hour passed, the group reconvened near the entrance of the Colosseum, Phil waiting for them with a grin. The semi-finals were about to begin, promising more exhilarating battles, unexpected twists, and the continued journey of these unlikely heroes in the Phil Cup. The Colosseum, now filled with anticipation once again, awaited the next chapter in the unfolding saga of junior heroes and the challenges that bound their destinies together.

Writer's Note - I changed around Sora's opponent due to feeling Nebula did not fit into the story and part of the Phil Cup. I chose Lucina as I'm starting to get interested in the Fire Emblem Series and wanted to bring forth one of my favourite characters to the plot. Lucina's lore is fascinating and she rightly deserves a place in this fan fiction, even though I feel she was holding back massively in her fight with Sora. Anyways, I hope you enjoy these changes and let me know what you think of the Fire Emblem Series. As a new fan, it is great!
