Chapter 13: Hades' Plan C ... & Knuckles
REALM OF DARKNESS
Sonic and Shadow dashed through the void, their paths illuminated by the glinting blue and red streaks of their speed. As they ventured deeper, the air grew thick with the ominous presence of the Heartless.
"Looks like we have some company," Sonic stated, glancing around at the looming darkness filled with the Heartless.
Emerging from the depths, Shadow Heartless formed a menacing circle around them. Despite the overwhelming numbers, the two hedgehogs remained undeterred.
"Shall we?" Shadow asked, his eyes narrowing as he focused on the new foes.
With a nod of agreement, the two sprang into action. Sonic leaped into the air, unleashing a powerful homing attack that ricocheted between the Heartless, each strike dissolving them into darkness. Shadow, with his Chaos Spear, sent bolts of energy through the swarming creatures, piercing them effortlessly.
"Too easy!" Sonic gloated, delivering a swift roundhouse kick that sent a Heartless tumbling.
The tumbling creature met Shadow's retaliation, a roundhouse kick of his own that sent it reeling. The remaining Heartless, sensing their imminent defeat, began to retreat into the shadows.
"Yeah, you better run!" Sonic taunted.
"They'll be back," Shadow said bluntly, already moving forward. "Stay on your guard. This place might have worse foes ahead."
Sonic nodded, understanding the seriousness in Shadow's tone. As they sped forward, a sudden tremor shook the ground beneath them, causing the darkness to vibrate and react. The two hedgehog's came to a stop, trying to keep up right from the ground shifting and moving.
"What the—?" Sonic exclaimed, struggling to maintain his balance on the shaking ground.
"Told you worse was ahead ," Shadow remarked, his voice steady but tense as he scanned for the source of the disturbance.
From the depths of the darkness, a colossal figure began to emerge, its form becoming more defined with each passing second. The ground quaked under its weight, and an eerie silence fell over the realm.
A towering Heartless, unlike any they had encountered before, loomed before them. The Heartless was a towering sight to behold, with a massive and muscular look. It looked humanoid but it's head was covered in dozens of twisted, black tentacles. Sonic and Shadow eyed this monster up and down, to see a large heart-shaped hole in the Heartless's midsection, seeing straight through to the other side of the path and darkness they were travelling. The lumbering Heartless's eyes glowed with a malevolent yellow light, and its presence exuded an overpowering sense of dread.
"This just keeps getting better," Sonic muttered, readying himself for the impending battle.
Shadow's gaze hardened as he assessed their new foe.
"Stay focused. We take this thing down, and we find Amy."
"Right!" Sonic remarked, preparing himself for combat.
The gigantic Heartless loomed before Sonic and Shadow, ready to take on the intruders from the Realm of Light. Its tentacles writhed menacingly, and its eyes glowed with a malevolent yellow light. Despite its intimidating presence, the two hedgehogs knew they had faced worse before. They had a job to do, and they weren't about to let this creature stand in their way.
Darkside
Battle Music: Destiny's Force: Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
With a guttural roar, Darkside raised its right hand, preparing to strike. Sonic and Shadow split off in opposite directions, narrowly avoiding the devastating Dark Punch as it crashed into the ground, sending chunks of debris flying.
"Go for the legs! Bring it down to our level!" Shadow shouted as he teleported closer to the Heartless with Chaos Control.
Sonic nodded and charged towards one of Darkside's short legs, his speed a blur. He leapt into the air and unleashed a series of rapid Homing Attacks, each one hitting with pinpoint accuracy. Darkside staggered, its massive form swaying.
But the Heartless wasn't done. It raised its left hand and slammed it into the ground, creating a powerful Shock Wave that rippled outwards. Sonic, reacting with lightning reflexes, jumped just in time, the wave passing harmlessly beneath him.
"Shadow, cover me!" Sonic called out.
Shadow appeared behind the Heartless in a burst of Chaos Control. He raised his hand and fired a barrage of Chaos Spheres at its arms. The glowing projectiles struck true, causing Darkside to bellow in pain and reel back.
"Now!" Shadow shouted.
Sonic seized the moment, going into his quills he grabbed one of the elemental rings. His Spin Dash transformed, enveloped in fiery energy. With a burst of speed, he launched himself at Darkside's arm, the Fire Spin Dash leaving a trail of flames in its wake. The impact was explosive, and Darkside's arm was engulfed in fire, the creature roaring in agony.
As Darkside reeled from the attack, it opened the heart-shaped hole in its chest, unleashing Homing Darkness—rays of light that shot towards the two hedgehogs with deadly precision. Sonic weaved through the beams with his incredible speed, while Shadow used Chaos Control to blink in and out of their path.
"Let's see how it handles this!" Shadow declared, snapping his fingers.
A distorted space appeared around Darkside, warping reality itself. The Chaos Magic lashed out, striking the Heartless with chaotic energy that made it shudder and falter.
Darkside, now enraged, lifted both hands high and brought them down in a thunderous double strike. The ground quaked, and Shadow and Sonic were thrown off balance. The Heartless took advantage, swinging its massive fists towards them.
Sonic quickly activated another elemental ring, this time powering up his Spin Dash with the power of thunder. He spun into action, his Thunder Spin Dash crackling with electricity. He zoomed around Darkside's legs, delivering electric shocks that caused the creature to convulse.
Meanwhile, Shadow charged up his Chaos Upper, distorting space around his fist. He leapt high, striking Darkside's arm with a force that distorted reality itself. The impact was tremendous, and Darkside's arm buckled under the pressure.
"Keep it up, Sonic!" Shadow urged, landing gracefully on the ground.
Sonic, now using his Blizzard Spin Dash, sped towards Darkside's legs. The icy energy left a trail of frost as he struck, the cold biting into the Heartless's dark flesh. Darkside roared, its movements becoming sluggish as the frost took hold and its lower body buckled, dropping to a knee.
"It's down, let's aim for the head!" Shadow ordered, readying himself to move back into action.
Seeing their chance, Sonic and Shadow combined their efforts with precision and fury. Sonic launched into a series of Homing Attacks, each one hitting Darkside's head with pinpoint accuracy. The rapid succession of blows made the Heartless reel, its tentacle-covered head jerking with each impact.
The Heartless, weakened and enraged, tried one last desperate attack. It opened the heart-shaped hole in its chest wide, gathering energy for a massive blast of Homing Darkness. The rays of light shot out in all directions, seeking to obliterate the two hedgehogs.
"Watch out!" Sonic yelled, dodging the beams with his incredible speed.
Shadow, using Chaos Control, teleported in rapid succession, avoiding the deadly rays.
"We need to finish this now!" he called out.
Sonic nodded, determination burning in his eyes. He activated the elemental ring one last time, powering up his Spin Dash with all the elements combined—fire, thunder, and ice. The combined energy swirled around him, creating a dazzling display of power.
Shadow gathered his energy, readying himself for one final, devastating attack.
"On my mark!" he shouted.
As the Heartless unleashed its final barrage of Homing Darkness, Sonic and Shadow moved in perfect sync. Sonic launched himself into a Spin Dash, the combined elemental energy creating a vortex of fire, electricity, and ice. Shadow used Chaos Control to appear right above Darkside, his fist glowing with the power of Chaos Upper.
"Now!" Shadow yelled.
Sonic struck first, his Elemental Spin Dash hitting Darkside's head with incredible force. The combined elements erupted in a blaze of power, engulfing the Heartless in a maelstrom of energy. At the same moment, Shadow brought his Chaos Upper down with all his might, distorting space and delivering the final blow.
The Heartless let out a final, anguished roar as it disintegrated into darkness, the heart-shaped hole in its chest collapsing inward as it was consumed by the void. The ground beneath it cracked and shattered, the realm itself seeming to recoil from the defeat of the monstrous creature.
Sonic and Shadow landed back onto the path below, watching the massive foe crumble into dust. As the last remnants of the Darkside Heartless dissipated, Sonic smirked and placed his hands on his hips.
"Well, looks like that guy had a dark heart of glass," Sonic quipped, a playful glint in his green eyes. "Shattered pretty easily."
Shadow crossed his arms, his crimson eyes scanning the surroundings for any new threats.
"Only the strong survive," he said coolly, a hint of satisfaction in his voice. "And we're just getting started."

Sonic and Shadow looked forward into the abyss before them, their eyes straining to see beyond the immediate pathway enveloped by darkness. Amy was somewhere out there, but they had to find her fast amidst these shadows.
"We're close. We must hurry," Shadow declared, his crimson eyes piercing the gloom with determination.
"Right!" Sonic affirmed with a nod, but another question nagged at his mind. "Shads, you seemed to work Chaos Control easily while taking on that huge Heartless. Is it working properly yet?"
A sigh escaped Shadow as he contemplated the feasibility of Sonic's idea. His eyes scanned the dark surroundings, revealing a deeper understanding of the challenges they faced.
"The chaotic energy of this realm is weak. Teleporting over long distances is risky, especially with the darkness interfering. It's not as simple as it seems," Shadow explained.
Sonic, a bit frustrated, scratched his head in contemplation.
"So, it's just not back in the real world; this place also interferes with the power of the Chaos Emeralds, huh?" Sonic mused.
Shadow nodded in confirmation, "Correct. I can use it for short bursts, like in our last battle, but extensive teleportation is a different story. It's risky."
Sonic sighed, scratching his head, "Dang, that's a bummer. Alright, let's stick to good ol' running then."
With a nod of agreement, the duo started to dash off through the shadowy void. As they made tracks into the darkness, a mysterious figure observed them from a distance. Concealed in the darkness, the stranger's intentions remained veiled in secrecy.
"I wonder if they can help me?" the figure muttered, its voice barely audible over the whispering winds of the abyss.
OLYMPIC COLOSSEUM
Back in the Realm of Light, the semi-final clash between Sora and Cloud was well underway. The hard-hitting action unfolded with an intensity that electrified the Colosseum. The clang of blades echoed through the arena as Sora, wielding Redemption's Echo Keyblade, clashed with Cloud and his imposing Buster Sword.
Sora lunged forward with determination, but Cloud parried and effortlessly swung his massive sword, knocking the young Keyblade wielder back.
"That's the best you can do?" Cloud taunted with brash confidence.
"I can do this all day!" Sora replied undeterred, getting back to a steady position.
"Whatever you say, kid." Cloud remarked, ready to strike once again with his impressive Buster Sword.
On the sidelines, Donald and Goofy shouted words of encouragement, urging Sora to press on.
"Come on, Sora, focus!" Donald called out in support. "You can take 'em!"
"Give him heck, pal!" Goofy added with a cheer.
The crowd, caught up in the thrilling spectacle, erupted in cheers and applause. Phil reveled in the excitement, narrating the action to the ecstatic audience as the two clashed once more.
"This is becoming a heated contest, folks! Sora is giving his all, but Cloud is no slouch!"
From one of the gateways, Knuckles examined the contest, knowing he was one step closer to collecting his prize, but he could feel the darkness trying to eat away at him. As he watched Sora trying to hit Cloud with his fire magic, Knuckles looked to the young Keyblade wielder with interest.
"That kid doesn't back down," Knuckles thought to himself, his arms crossed and his purple eyes gazing at the action.
Knuckles closed his eyes and tilted his head slightly. He tried to focus on his inner strength, channeling out the noise of the crowd and the clash of the Keyblade and Buster Sword. The echidna exhaled loudly through his nose, needing to tame the darkness trying to take over him. However, a sudden voice echoed in his mind.
"Fight the temptation, Knuckles."
Knuckles opened his eyes and gasped slightly. The voice was familiar, with a warmth to it.
"Tikal?" he whispered, his eyes widening.
Suddenly, as if by magic, a gentle, ethereal glow surrounded Knuckles. Tikal, the ancient Echidna guardian, stood before Knuckles, her presence radiating warmth and wisdom.
"Indeed. It has been a while, Knuckles," she said warmly with a smile.
Tikal possessed an otherworldly beauty, her form adorned with the regal grace of her lineage. Her fur, a vibrant shade of orange, framed her face in a cascade of dreadlock-like spines, flowing around the sides and back of her head. Cobalt-blue eyes, illuminated with an ancient knowledge, gazed upon Knuckles with a sense of serenity.
A small black nose adorned her peach muzzle, and a serene expression graced her features. Around her neck, she wore a gold necklace, adorned with intricate tribal patterns, and a tiara-like headband adorned her forehead, adorned with triangles and a light blue gemstone at its center. A gold armlet adorned her right arm, a symbol of her lineage and guardianship.
"Why, why are you here?" Knuckles asked. "Do you sense the darkness?"
"Knuckles," she said, her voice soothing. "You must stay strong. The darkness within you is not your true nature."
"I know," Knuckles huffed, his shoulder slumping. "I was too focused on getting back the missing Master Emerald shards, I let Hades trick me into aiding his cause."
Tikal looked with empathy to Knuckles, "You may have been fooled, but that doesn't mean you can stop Hades now?"
"What do you mean?"
Tikal's gaze held a gentle but firm resolve as she responded to Knuckles's question.
"You may have been deceived by Hades, but that doesn't mean you are powerless to stop him," she explained, her voice carrying a sense of urgency. "You have the strength within you to overcome the darkness and make things right."
Knuckles nodded, a spark of determination igniting within him.
"You're right. I can't let Hades succeed in his plans. I need to stop his plans to kill Hercules, rescue Cloud from his darkness and help Sora."
"Many years ago, our tribe thought the Keyblade was a conduit of doom and destruction," Tikal explained, turning to witness Sora and Cloud fighting still in the Arena. "But, this child is a warrior of good. His heart is pure and the connections he has is a link to many."
"A link to many?" Knuckles asked, slightly confused by Tikal's words.
"In time, Sora will understand his connection to the Keyblade and be part of something bigger. But for now, he is a young warrior needing assistance. You can be that aid, Knuckles."
"You're right," Knuckles nodded. "I can see why Sonic likes him."
Tikal smiled softly at Knuckles's realization, her eyes shining with wisdom.
"Yes, Sonic sees the potential in Sora, just as I see the potential in you," she replied. "Together, you can help guide him on his journey and aid him in overcoming the darkness that threatens not only his world but many others."
Knuckles nodded in understanding, feeling a renewed sense of purpose coursing through him.
"I won't let you down, Tikal," he vowed, his voice filled with determination.
Tikal's form began to fade, but her presence lingered in Knuckles's heart.
"I know you won't, Knuckles," she said, her voice echoing in the darkness. "Trust in your strength and the bonds you share with your friends. Together, you can overcome the darkness and any obstacle."
With those final words of encouragement, Tikal disappeared completely, leaving Knuckles with a newfound sense of resolve. As he watched Sora and Cloud continue their battle in the arena, he knew that he had a crucial role to play in helping them defeat Hades and stop the darkness spreading.
However, In the shadows, Hades watched the match unfold, sensing that the time was ripe for his Plan C. The Lord of the Underworld smirked in the darkness, his eyes gleaming with anticipation as he observed the ongoing clash between Sora and Cloud.
"Looks like it's time to put Plan C into action," he muttered to himself, his voice laced with malice.
Back in the arena, Sora slid forward, striking with his Keyblade, but Cloud evaded with a swift backward dodge, leaping into the air. Displaying unnatural strength, Cloud slammed his sword into the ground, missing Sora by inches. With a powerful surge, he closed the gap, landing blows against The Keyblade wielder.
Sora staggered backward, caught off guard by Cloud's relentless assault. The force of each blow reverberated through his body, but he refused to yield. Summoning his inner strength, Sora parried Cloud's attacks with skillful precision, their blades clashing in a symphony of steel.
Donald and Goofy watched from the sidelines, their expressions tense with concern as they witnessed Sora's struggle against his formidable opponent.
"Come on, Sora! You've got this!" Donald shouted, his voice filled with encouragement.
"Yeah, show 'im what you're made of!" Goofy added, cheering on his friend.
However, as the battle intensified, Cloud's attacks became more aggressive, fueled by the darkness that threatened to consume him. Sora fought valiantly, but he soon found himself on the defensive as Cloud unleashed a devastating flurry of blows.
"Sora, watch out!" Donald shouted, his voice filled with concern.
But it was too late. Cloud's Omni Slash tore through the air with lethal precision, catching Sora off guard and sending him crashing to the ground with a resounding thud. The Keyblade wielder struggled to rise, his body battered and bruised from the onslaught.
"Aw, come on, Sora! You gotta get up!" Goofy urged, his worry evident in his voice.
Meanwhile, Phil, sensing that the battle was becoming increasingly one-sided, prepared to intervene. He knew that if he didn't act soon, Sora could be seriously injured or worse.
"This ain't lookin' good," Phil muttered, his brow furrowed with concern. "I might have to call it off before things get outta hand."
With the crowd in disbelief at the barbaric nature of Cloud, Phil grabbed a white towel from nearby to throw it into the arena to call the match and save Sora further onslaught. As Phil reached for the towel, a sudden chill ran down his spine as he felt a presence behind him. Before he could react, Hades's hand landed heavily on his shoulder, startling him.
"Hades?" Phil exclaimed, turning around to face the god of the underworld.
Hades's grin widened, his eyes gleaming with a sinister glint.
"Let this play out, my goat friend," he said, his voice dripping with malice.
Just as Cloud raised his sword, his eyes blazing with determination, poised to deliver the final blow on Sora, the unexpected happened. A giant black claw descended upon Cloud, startling both combatants. Sora's eyes widened in shock as he looked up to witness the emergence of a colossal three-headed beast with menacing red eyes. Darkness emanated from its jaws, each razor-sharp tooth gleaming ominously. Cerberus had stomped on Cloud with such force that the mighty swordsman was crushed to the ground with ease, his sword clattering away.
Sora, Donald, and Goofy were left in utter bewilderment by the sudden turn of events. The crowd erupted into absolute pandemonium, fans screaming and shoving each other as they desperately tried to flee the arena. The once jubilant atmosphere of the Colosseum transformed into one of chaos and terror. Phil, who had been watching from the sidelines, stumbled back, his face pale with shock at the monstrous creature's appearance.
In stark contrast to the chaos, Hades stood unfazed, a small, sinister chuckle escaping his lips. He turned nonchalantly towards the shadowy exit of the Colosseum's gateways, a smug grin spreading across his face.
"Sorry, Cloud my boy," Hades called out, his voice dripping with mock sympathy. "But Plan C is the way to go."
As he sauntered towards the exit, the grin on his face widened, the flames of his hair flaring with a triumphant glow. He waved a hand dismissively, as if shooing away an insignificant insect.
"Good luck with your future endeavors," he added with a sarcastic lilt, his laughter echoing ominously through the Colosseum.
With Hades fleeing coolly away from the scene. Sora, Donald and Goofy looked around to see panic continuing to grip the stands as spectators rushed to distance themselves from the unexpected appearance of this beast.
"IT'S CERBERUS!" shouted a panicked spectator, trying to escape from the Colosseum.
"WE NEED A HERO!" another fan cried out!
Sora turned to Donald and Goofy, his Redemption's Echo Keyblade in hand, showed a concerned expression.
"We need to stop that thing!" Sora exclaimed, the urgency and gravity of the situation bearing down on him.
However, before the heroes could challenge the monstrous beast, it lunged at Sora, prepared to unleash its dark fury upon the young Keyblade wielder.
But then, amidst the chaos, a figure emerged—a silhouette of raw power and indomitable strength. Phil, in awe, shouted a name that resonated with the essence of mythical might.
"HERC!"
And there he stood, bathed in a divine radiance that seemed to push back the encroaching darkness—a Herculean figure with muscles carved from the very stones of Olympus. Hercules, the hero of Greece, whose legend was whispered in awe across the realms. His chiseled features were a symphony of determination and noble grace, crowned by a cascade of light curls that framed a face both kind and stern.
The mighty Hercules raised his colossal arms, pushing against the monstrous weight of Cerberus. His eyes, a radiant blue reflecting the clarity of the heavens, surveyed the battlefield with a mix of determination and concern.
"Phil, get them out of here!" Hercules commanded, his voice a blend of strength and compassion.
"You heard Herc, kid!" Phil shouted out to Sora. "Move it!"
Amidst the turmoil, Phil hastily guided Sora, Donald, Goofy, and himself to the relative safety of the lobby area. Phil's weary breaths punctuated the tense atmosphere as Cerberus' roars echoed through the Colosseum.
LOBBY
"Whew, that was close!" Phil wheezed, trying to catch his breath, standing in front of the arena entrance.
"What the heck was that thing?" Donald asked, his feathers ruffled from the chaos.
"That was Cerberus, the guardian of the underworld," Phil clarified, his voice still shaky. "Herc should be able to handle him."
"You sure?" Goofy replied, concern etched on his features.
Phil hesitated, wiping sweat from his brow. "But then again, maybe not..." he pondered aloud, still trying to catch his breath. "This doesn't look good. I hope Herc's okay. Wish I could go in!"
"We can't let Hercules face Cerberus alone!" Sora remarked, stepping forward towards Phil with courage burning in his eyes.
"Kid, that three-headed dog is powerful," Phil exclaimed. "It's too dangerous!"
"But, Phil, we need to prove we can be called heroes!" Sora argued back, his determination blazing like an inferno.
"Hercules and Cloud need our help!" Donald added, trying to persuade Phil to move aside and let them aid the others.
"Yeah, we can't back down now!" Goofy said, his usual cheerful demeanor replaced with a rare seriousness.
Phil sighed, looking at the young heroes in front of him.
"I don't know..." he muttered, uncertainty clouding his face.
Suddenly a voice broke through the tension from the other side of the lobby area.
"Let me aid Sora and his friends."
The four looked to see none other than Knuckles, entering from the shadows. He strode forward with confidence and purpose, his stern expression revealing a determination not just to stop Cerberus, but to seek redemption.
"Knuckles, you want to help?" Sora asked, looking at the red Echidna with surprise.
"I do," Knuckles confirmed with a nod, stepping in front of the three heroes and Phil.
"Why?" Donald questioned, his voice filled with suspicion. "Why do you want to help us?"
"Hades used me and is using Cloud," Knuckles revealed, a hint of self-reproach in his eyes. "We both were after something, and Hades promised to help, but clearly, we've been tricked."
"How can we trust you?" Donald replied, his skepticism evident.
Goofy, always ready with a touch of humor, chimed in, "Yeah, you do owe me a new shield!"
Knuckles turned to Sora, his expression earnest and sincere.
"Trust me, kid. I've been played too many times, and this time takes the cake. The darkness was seeping through, but after some clarity and watching you fight against Cloud, I could sense the light you bring."
"Really?" Sora replied, curious and cautious.
Knuckles nodded, his eyes reflecting a newfound resolve.
"Really. I've made mistakes, but I want to set things right. We need to stop Hades and save Cloud. And right now, Hercules needs all the help he can get against Cerberus."
Phil, seeing the sincerity in Knuckles' eyes, gave a reluctant nod.
"Alright, we don't have much time. If you think you can help, then let's get moving."
"Thank you, Phil," Knuckles said, his tone respectful. He then turned to Sora, Donald, and Goofy. "Let's go. Together, we can take down Cerberus and stop Hades' plan."
Sora, feeling the urgency of the situation, gripped his Keyblade tightly.
"Alright, team. Let's move out!"
With renewed determination, the group rushed back into the Colosseum. The roars of Cerberus echoed through the halls, a reminder of the peril that awaited them. As they entered the arena, they saw Hercules stuck in a corner, carrying the unconscious Cloud over his shoulder. The hero of Greece was trying to navigate through the relentless onslaught with the three heads of Cerberus snapping towards the one-armed warrior.
"Kid, I got two words of advice for you: Attack!" Phil shouted, giving instructions to Sora and his friends from the sidelines.
Sora nodded, his eyes narrowing with determination.
"Let's go, guys! We need to give Herc some room to breathe!"
Donald raised his staff, ready to cast protective spells, while Goofy hefted his shield, prepared to defend his friends. Knuckles cracked his knuckles, the muscles in his arms tensing with anticipation. With Cerberus now occupied with the four heroes, this gave Hercules time to take Cloud to safety.
Cerberus
(Battle Music: Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Major Boss Theme)
Cerberus, sensing the new threats, roared and launched a barrage of fireballs from its three mouths. The flaming projectiles streaked through the air, aimed at the heroes.
"Dodge Roll!" Sora shouted, diving to the side to avoid the fiery onslaught. He rolled to his feet, the Keyblade blazing with magical energy. "Fire!" he yelled getting back to his feet, unleashing a powerful fire spell at one of Cerberus's heads. The flames struck the beast, causing it to recoil momentarily.
Knuckles charged forward, his fists clenched. He leapt into the air, delivering a series of powerful punches to Cerberus's side.
"Power Pump!" he roared, his fists glowing with energy. Each punch landed with a resounding thud, sending shockwaves through the beast's massive frame.
Cerberus snarled in anger, raising one of its massive front paws and slamming it down onto the ground. The impact sent a shockwave rippling through the arena, knocking Donald off his feet.
"Quack!" he yelped as he tumbled across the ground.
"Donald!" Sora shouted, rushing to his fallen friend. He raised his Keyblade, the tip glowing with a green light. "Heal!" he incanted, sending a wave of healing energy over Donald. The mage's eyes fluttered open, and he scrambled back to his feet.
"Thanks, Sora!" Donald said, raising his staff again. "Blizzard!" A flurry of icy shards shot from his staff, striking Cerberus's middle head and encasing it in frost.
Goofy, meanwhile, charged forward with his shield raised.
"Charge!" he shouted, slamming into one of Cerberus's legs with immense force. The beast staggered, momentarily off balance.
Knuckles, taking advantage of the distraction, burrowed underground with incredible speed. He tunneled beneath Cerberus, emerging from the ground and landing on its back.
"Let's see how you like this!" he yelled, delivering a flurry of punches to the beast's spine. Each blow landed with a thunderous impact, causing Cerberus to howl in pain.
Sora saw his chance, "Freeze!" he called out, sending a wave of ice towards Cerberus's left head. The icy blast struck true, momentarily freezing the head in place. "Now, Donald!"
"Thunder!" Donald shouted, a bolt of lightning arcing from his staff and striking the frozen head. The combination of ice and electricity sent jolts of pain through Cerberus, causing it to thrash wildly.
But the beast was not done. With a furious roar, Cerberus shook itself free of the ice and lightning, its three heads snapping in all directions. It reared up on its hind legs and slammed its front paws down, sending another shockwave through the arena. This time, Goofy was caught in the blast, sent sprawling across the ground.
"Goofy!" Sora called out, rushing to his friend's side. He raised his Keyblade once more, casting another healing spell. "Heal!"
Goofy's eyes opened, and he quickly got back to his feet.
"Thanks, Sora!" Goofy said, readying his shield. "Let's finish this!"
Cerberus, enraged, launched another volley of fireballs. The heroes scattered, dodging the fiery projectiles. Sora leapt into the air, his Keyblade glowing with magical energy.
"Take that!" he shouted, delivering a rapid series of strikes to Cerberus's left head. The blows landed with precision, each strike weakening the beast further.
Knuckles, still on Cerberus's back, delivered another series of powerful punches.
"You're going down!" he roared, his fists a blur of motion. The beast howled in agony, its massive frame shaking under the relentless assault.
"Donald, Goofy, let's combine our attacks!" Sora called out. "Donald, hit it with Blizzard! Goofy, use Rocket!"
"Blizzard!" Donald incanted, sending another wave of icy shards towards Cerberus. The ice struck the beast, freezing its middle head.
"Rocket!" Goofy shouted, launching himself into the air with his shield. He came crashing down onto Cerberus's back, the impact sending a shockwave through the beast's body.
Sora seized the moment, "Fire!" he shouted, unleashing a powerful fire spell at Cerberus's right head. The flames engulfed the head, causing the beast to thrash in agony.
Cerberus, weakened and disoriented, struggled to maintain its balance. Knuckles, fueled by determination and a desire for justice, delivered one final, powerful punch to the beast's spine.
"This is for all the tricks Hades pulled!" he shouted, his fist glowing with energy.
The blow landed with a resounding crack, and Cerberus collapsed to the ground, defeated.
"We did it!" Goofy called out in victory, jumping up and air punching with his free hand.
"Good work, everyone!" Donald quacked in delight, spinning his staff on his finger to show off.
"That's how you do it!" Sora remarked, twirling his Keyblade before casually placing it on his shoulder with a hint of swagger.
Knuckles, landing down from the defeated dog's back, looked at the heroes and gave a small grin.
"Taunting after a victory? Man, you guys have been hanging with Sonic too long," he teased.
The heroes shared a laugh, the tension of battle finally dissipating. Despite the danger they faced, they had emerged victorious, united in their strength and determination.

LOBBY AREA
The Colosseum's lobby buzzed with a mix of relief and camaraderie. Hercules, the now-conscious Cloud, and the heroes gathered to catch their breath after the intense encounter with Cerberus. Phil, with a triumphant grin, praised the heroes for their hard work.
"Kid, that was one wild ride! You and your friends really know how to handle yourselves in a tight spot," Phil exclaimed, clapping Sora on the back.
Sora grinned back, his confidence shining through.
"Teamwork makes the dream work, right?"
Donald and Goofy nodded in agreement, proud of their collective effort. As the adrenaline settled, Cloud, leaning against a wall, recovered from the beast's attack. Sora turned to the brooding warrior with a small grin.
"So, Cloud, who won in our match?" Sora remarked, trying to provoke a reaction from his new friend.
Cloud, known for his stoic demeanor, cracked a small smirk and shook his head.
"I think you know who was winning that match, kid."
"True," Sora replied, playfully. "But I feel you had the advantage with those dark forces."
"I can beat you in my sleep," Cloud bantered back, his tone still serious.
However, Phil, enjoying the banter, chimed in to clarify the situation.
"Let's call it a draw. So technically, our echidna friend here," Phil pointed at Knuckles, "would be the Phil Cup champion!"
Knuckles, who had seemingly found the whole affair a bit too easy, scratched his head.
"You sure about that, Phil?"
"Absolutely, red," Phil confirmed. "Sonic went AWOL, and due to Cerberus's little rampage, Sora and Cloud's bout ended without a winner. So, you won on a technicality."
Knuckles chuckled, a grin spreading across his face.
"Well, I'll take it. Guess I'm the champion by default!"
"Congratulations," Hercules said, offering a nod of respect to the echidna warrior.
"Good job, Knuckles," Sora added with a nod of approval.
"Thanks, I guess," Knuckles replied with a smirk. "So, with me being the winner and all, I will take my winning prize now."
Phil nodded and turned his gaze to Hercules, who looked back and gave a knowing nod. The hero of Greece moved towards Knuckles and placed a collection of green-looking shard pieces into the echidna's gloved hand.
"Here you go, champ!" Hercules remarked warmly. "I heard from a little birdy you were after these gem shards all along."
Knuckles accepted the shards, his expression one of gratitude mixed with a hint of remorse.
"Yes, the pieces of the Master Emerald. Sadly, Hades led me down a dark path to collect them, but I'm glad I could aid you all in stopping Cerberus. That in itself is a victory."
"Oh, Knuckles," Sora interjected, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Speaking of shards, we've been collecting pieces of the Master Emerald on our journey. Sonic's been a great guide, showing us where to find them."
"You have?" Knuckles asked, eager to know more.
"That's right! We've got quite a collection now," Donald chimed in, emphasizing Sora's point.
Goofy nodded in agreement. "Yep, all thanks to Sonic's help."
Knuckles looked at the heroes, a sense of camaraderie warming his heart.
"I appreciate that, guys. Maybe someday, we'll be able to restore the Master Emerald together."
Sora moved forward to Knuckles and took out the shards they had found from his pocket, offering them to the echidna.
"If we find any more, we'll keep them safe for you," Sora said earnestly.
"Thanks, kid," Knuckles replied with appreciation, accepting the shards from Sora's outstretched hand.
Cloud, still leaning against the wall, interjected with curiosity.
"So, what's the deal with this Master Emerald?"
"It's a powerful gem that keeps Angel Island afloat," Knuckles affirmed. "I am its guardian, tasked with ensuring it stays in one piece."
"From what Sonic told us, things went a bit haywire with the Heartless, and now Knuckles is on a quest to gather the shards and fix it up," Sora added, providing additional context.
Knuckles nodded in agreement with Sora's words.
"That's the plan. Gotta restore the Master Emerald to its former glory," he said, determination shining in his eyes. "Maybe it can even restore Mobius as well."
Cloud nodded, understanding the importance of Knuckles' mission.
"Sounds like a worthy cause," he remarked.
Hercules, who had been listening quietly, stepped forward with a reassuring smile.
"You have our support, Knuckles. If there's anything we can do to help, just let us know."
Knuckles nodded gratefully, touched by the offer of assistance.
"Thanks, Herc. I'll be sure to keep you all updated on my progress."
With the shards now in his possession, the echidna nodded to the group and turned towards the exit of the lobby area, his determination evident in every step. However, as he began to walk away, Sora interjected with a question.
"Knuckles, where are you going?" he asked, curiosity lacing his tone.
Knuckles paused and turned back to face the Keyblade wielder, his expression serious and resolute.
"I have to find the rest of the pieces of the emerald," he affirmed. "But first, I need to find Hades. I owe him a knuckle sandwich or two."
Sora grinned, understanding Knuckles' desire for payback.
"Need any help with that?"
Knuckles smirked, appreciating the offer.
"Thanks, but I think I can handle it. Besides, I've got a score to settle."
With a determined nod, Knuckles turned and strode out of the lobby, his resolve unwavering. As he disappeared from view, Sora couldn't help but admire the echidna's determination and grit. With Knuckles on the hunt for Hades and the Master Emerald shards, Sora knew that their paths would cross again soon.
Watching Knuckles leave, Phil rubbed his goatee with interest and intrigue.
"I can't read that guy at all," Phil remarked, his curiosity piqued.
"Reminds me of someone I know," Hercules teased, shooting a playful glance towards his trainer.
"For that comment, two laps of Greece, Herc!" Phil retorted, a hint of amusement in his voice.
"So, what about future games, Phil?" Sora interjected, turning his attention to the legendary trainer of heroes and the hero of Greece.
Phil sighed, his shoulders slumping a bit as he expressed his frustrations.
"No games for a while, kid. We've got a lot of cleaning up to do first. Cerberus made a hell of a mess."
"Once we clean up this mess, Phil will send out a message across the land for the next tournament," Hercules explained with a smile. "You're welcome to join again!"
"Okay, we'll keep that in mind," Sora nodded with a grin.
"Look forward to seeing how much you develop in your skills, kid," Phil responded, a twinkle of pride in his eye.
Before leaving, Sora turned to Cloud, who was still leaning against the wall, recovering from the battle with Cerberus.
"Hey, Cloud, you sure you're okay?"
"Yeah, I'll be fine," Cloud said. "I got into that mess with Hades. He promised to help me find my light."
"I'm searching too," Sora responded with empathy in his tone.
"For your light?" Cloud asked, looking towards the Keyblade wielder.
Sora nodded, a mutual understanding passing between the two warriors. Sora was desperate to find his friends, while Cloud seemed to be searching for someone close to him as well.
"Don't lose sight of it," Cloud advised, cryptically.
"Sure thing," Sora replied, his determination unwavering.
Cloud began to leave, but Sora couldn't help but throw in one last question.
"How about a rematch next time, Cloud? No dark powers involved?"
Cloud turned back, giving a small chuckle.
"Sure, why not."
And with that, Cloud disappeared into the shadows of the Colosseum, leaving Sora and his friends to their next adventure. Sora, Donald, and Goofy bid farewell to Phil and Hercules, making their way to the exit as well. Phil turned to Hercules with a bemused expression on his face as they left.
"I can't believe that kid took down Cerberus," Phil said, still taken aback by Sora's impressive feat of defeating the Guardian of the Underworld.
Hercules leaned in towards the goat, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.
"Actually, I tired out Cerberus before the little guy jumped in," Hercules confessed quietly to his trainer.
Phil chuckled at Hercules's revelation.
"My lips are sealed."
As they watched the trio of heroes leave for the world's gate, Phil couldn't help but wonder what adventures awaited them beyond the Colosseum. The echoes of battles, cheers, and camaraderie lingered in the air, a testament to the stories that unfolded in this legendary arena. With a smile, Phil knew that wherever their journeys took them, they would face each challenge with courage and determination, leaving a trail of legends in their wake.
Outside the Colosseum, under the vast sky and by the World Gate, Sora, Donald, and Goofy stood facing the infinite possibilities that lay ahead. The question of "where next?" lingered in the air, a decision that could lead them to new challenges, friendships, and perhaps even more Chaos Emeralds and shards.
"We should see if any other worlds need their Keyhole sealing. You know, keep things in order!" suggested Goofy, always practical in his approach.
"Yeah, and we need to keep looking for those other Chaos Emeralds and shards," Donald proclaimed, his determination shining through.
"Plus, our friends need finding," Goofy replied once more.
"I hope Sonic and Shadow are okay," Sora mused, his thoughts drifting to their missing friends.
"Maybe we should report into Tails. He might give us some advice on what to do with Sonic and Shadow's disappearance," Goofy suggested.
With a nod, Sora gathered his resolve.
"Alright, let's get moving. There's a whole bunch of worlds out there, and we've got a lot of exploring and helping to do. Who knows what adventures await us!"
"You said it," Donald agreed, his excitement palpable.
"Let's get to the Gummi Ship, fellas," Goofy replied, eager to embark on their next journey.
And so, the trio stepped through the World Gate, ready for the next chapter in their journey. The echoes of the battles in the Colosseum faded behind them as they embraced the unknown that lay ahead. With their hearts united and their spirits high, Sora, Donald, and Goofy set off into the vast expanse of the cosmos, ready to face whatever challenges and adventures awaited them.
Realm of Darkness
"Hold on Amy, we are coming!" Sonic called out, as he dashed through this void, with Shadow skating close by.
The echoes reverberated through the darkness, growing louder with each step, until an unexpected interruption brought the duo to a sudden halt.
A dark portal materialized before them, swirling with malevolence, and from its ominous depths emerged none other than the nefarious Dr. Eggman.
"It's the Doctor!" Shadow stated in confusion. "What the hell is he doing here?"
"What are you doing here, Egghead?" Sonic demanded, his voice sharp and unyielding.
The rotund scientist chuckled, a sinister sound that echoed ominously through the desolate realm.
"Ah, Sonic," Eggman purred, his glasses gleaming with a malevolent light. "I warned you back in Traverse Town, didn't I? The darkness has become my new purpose. Here, in the abyss, I will forge my new Empire."
Shadow stepped forward, his crimson eyes piercing through the gloom, locking onto Eggman with an intensity that could cut through steel.
"The darkness is consuming you, Doctor," Shadow declared, his voice a low growl. "You must cease this madness before it devours you completely."
Eggman dismissed Shadow's concerns with a careless wave of his hand, his laughter growing darker.
"Oh, Shadow," he sneered, "you of all beings should understand. You are a creation of darkness, born from Black Doom's DNA and the twisted genius of my grandfather. Embrace it!"
Shadow's expression hardened, his resolve unwavering.
"I was not made for darkness, Doctor," he retorted. "I was created to bring hope, to cure Maria's illness and give humanity a chance. That is a promise I intend to keep."
Eggman's grin widened, a sinister shadow playing across his face.
"Hope? Humanity? Such naïve ideals, Shadow. The darkness within you is undeniable, inevitable. Why fight what you were destined to be? The abyss calls to you, just as it calls to me. Together, we can reshape this world into something far greater than it ever was."
"Not a chance!" Shadow replied.
"Cut the cryptic talk, Eggman," Sonic demanded, his patience wearing thin. "Do you know where Amy is or not?"
Eggman's grin widened, a glint of malice in his eyes as he reveled in Sonic's frustration.
"Perhaps I do, or perhaps I don't, you blue nuisance," he replied, his words dripping with sinister amusement.
Sonic's temper flared, "Stop playing these games!" he growled, his voice sharp with irritation. "This isn't like you. You're meddling with forces beyond your control and understanding!"
"Silence!" Eggman snapped, his patience wearing thin. "I've had enough of this."
Sonic tensed, ready to confront the rotund scientist, but Eggman merely laughed, his amusement twisted and dark. With a snap of his fingers, a portal materialized beside him, revealing a figure that sent a chill down Sonic's spine—a corrupted, more menacing version of Metal Sonic.
"Is that... Metal?" Sonic's voice was filled with disbelief as he stared at the darkened figure.
Eggman's expression twisted into a perverse grin.
"Indeed, Sonic," he proclaimed proudly. "Meet my latest creation, infused with the power of the Heartless. Say hello to Dark Metal Sonic!"
Dark Metal Sonic stood tall, its form radiating an aura of sinister power that seemed to warp the very air around it. Once a sleek and formidable creation of Eggman's, it now bore the scars of its corruption, its once pristine surface marred by jagged lines of pulsating darkness.
The metal that composed its frame seemed to ripple and shift, as if alive with malevolent energy. No longer the polished blue and silver of its former self, Dark Metal Sonic's exterior was now a twisted amalgamation of obsidian black and sickly purples, a visual testament to the darkness that had consumed it.
Its eyes, once cold and calculating, now burned with an even more intense red glow, like smoldering embers within the depths of a raging inferno. They bore into Sonic and Shadow with an unyielding intensity, promising only destruction and despair.
"He's lost his mind," Shadow muttered, his gaze fixed on the abomination before them.
Sonic's determination flickered, but he quickly steeled himself.
"It doesn't matter," he declared, his voice firm. "We've faced Metal before, and we'll do it again, no matter what twisted enhancements you've made."
"Mock me all you want, hedgehog," Eggman sneered, his voice dripping with malice. "But Dark Metal Sonic is the ultimate culmination of my brilliance. Together, we will crush you and usher in a new era of darkness."
"Eggman..." Sonic's voice was laced with concern, his eyes narrowing as he assessed the situation.
"We have to knock some sense into him, Sonic!" Shadow declared, his stance firm and unwavering.
Sonic glanced at Shadow, his determination mirrored in the crimson glow of Shadow's eyes. With a silent nod, Sonic shifted into his familiar fighting stance, muscles tensed and ready for the inevitable clash.
However, Eggman's gaze remained cold and calculating, as if the hedgehogs were mere insects scurrying beneath his heel. His laughter reverberated through the desolate landscape, a chilling reminder of the power he wielded.
"You think you can stop me, Sonic? Shadow?" Eggman's voice dripped with contempt, each word a venomous taunt. "You're nothing but pests, nuisances to be swatted aside. But rest assured, I will relish the opportunity to crush you beneath the heel of my creation."
Sonic gritted his teeth, his resolve hardening with each passing moment. He refused to let Eggman's arrogance and cruelty go unchecked, not when the fate of their world hung in the balance.
"We've faced worse than you, Eggman," Sonic shot back, his voice ringing with defiance. "And we've always come out on top. Your reign of darkness ends here and now."
"It's over, Doctor!" Shadow declared, red aura of chaotic energy surrounded him, ready for combat.
Eggman pointed his gloved hand, ready to command his latest creation into battle.
"Rip them apart, Dark Metal Sonic!" Eggman's command echoed through the desolate landscape, his frustration palpable as he watched his creation lunge forward with deadly intent.
Sonic braced himself for the incoming assault, muscles tense and ready to react, with Shadow poised to aid him if needed. But before Dark Metal Sonic could strike, the attack was effortlessly deflected in a blur of motion, sending the corrupted mech flying backwards towards Eggman, sparks flying from its darkness-infused frame.
"What?!" Eggman cried out in disbelief, his expression twisted into a mixture of shock and annoyance.
As Sonic and Shadow looked on in astonishment, their attention was drawn to the figure who had intervened. Standing tall before them was a woman, her short blue hair framing a face set with determination.
Clad in a black and blue high-collared halter top adorned with intersecting pink belts over her chest, she exuded an aura of strength and confidence. Her black shorts were complemented by white bell-sleeves and tan fingerless gloves, while segmented pieces of armor adorned her upper arms. Black socks covered her legs, reaching halfway up her thighs, leaving a small area of bare skin exposed. Two strips of blue cloth draped over her hips, accompanied by a smaller white strip tied around her waist. Her pointed, armored silver boots gleamed in the dim light, their sharp hooks hinting at the power they contained.
"Who in the world are you?" Sonic remarked, his voice filled with both surprise and curiosity.
In her hand, the woman wielded a Keyblade, its unique design catching Sonic's attention. The weapon had a smooth, cylindrical grey shaft that tapered outward at both ends, with a boxy guard consisting of two small, light grey boxes and a copper rod. Sonic's mind raced, questioning everything he thought he knew about Keyblade wielders. He had always believed Sora was the only one, but here stood someone else, ready to face the darkness alongside them.
"A Keyblade?!" Sonic gasped in disbelief, his emerald eyes widening with astonishment. "But, how?!"
Shadow's crimson gaze remained locked onto the mysterious woman, his curiosity piqued and his senses on high alert.
"Just who are you?" Shadow inquired, his voice tinged with a mixture of wariness and intrigue.
"No time for introductions," the woman declared, her gaze unwavering as she focused on Eggman and Dark Metal Sonic. "We need to stop these two forces of darkness."
"You can say that again," Sonic remarked, his determination burning brighter than ever as he prepared to fight alongside his newfound ally.
Eggman's shock quickly gave way to seething anger at this unexpected interruption. Dark Metal Sonic's gaze shifted towards the woman and her Keyblade, the mechanical noises emanating from the corrupted robot growing louder with each passing moment, a clear sign of its mounting frustration.
"This can't be... Who, who are you?!" Eggman demanded, his voice trembling with rage and disbelief as he struggled to comprehend the situation.
The woman's response remained cryptic, her resolve unyielding in the face of Eggman's fury.
"Just call me the light in your darkest hour," she revealed, her tone steady and resolute.
Eggman's anger boiled over, his face contorted with rage.
"You blue haired brat!" he spat, his voice dripping with venom. "Dark Metal Sonic, destroy them all!"
As the trio braced themselves for the imminent battle, a palpable sense of anticipation filled the air. With their newfound ally standing beside them, Sonic and Shadow prepared to confront the darkness head-on, their determination unwavering in the face of adversity. The fate of Amy, and the very essence of the Realm of Darkness, now rested in their hands, ready to be shaped by the outcome of their impending clash.
(WN: The story will now follow Sonic, Shadow and this mysterious woman in the Realm of Darkness. With Sora, Donald and Goofy in the Realm of Light - they will now follow the original story of Kingdom Hearts for a few chapters. However, I might write a small story on their adventures after I complete this project, to show you how they get on without the blue blur and the ultimate lifeform.)
