Alright, so Chapter 8. Sorry for the delay, but like I said in the last chapter, my computer's Ethernet got disconnected or something. It's working now, so I don't know what happened, but I'll be keeping an eye on it. I just hope it doesn't become an ongoing issue. Anyways, I DO NOT own RWBY or Pokémon, and I hope you enjoy.
It wasn't long after the trio of Jaune, Akari and Professor Laventon left that a new group arrived near the village gates, the handful of them seeing their leader enter the village to talk with the commander regarding a situation they faced. While the village was alive, bustling with the small population of villagers, most of which eyed them curiously and with uncertainty, the people waited for their leader to return. With their cart in tow, the merchants stood about, some talking to the guards, some with each other, and some deciding to either check their wares or mingle amongst themselves.
Among them was a young man with blond hair and grey eyes waited with an eager filled curiosity, having made the journey separate from his fellow merchants, from the Cobalt Coastlands to the Obsidian Field lands, and now to the small settlement of Jubilife. He heard his fellow merchants mingle, murmuring and silently discussing the incident at hand as he gave a small frown of his own due to their concerns over these mysterious disappearances. He would honestly admit, he wouldn't blame anyone for being as rattled as they all were. So far, all four of the main factions, minus his mistress of course, have been affected by these disappearances. From the clans to their guild, to the village, and all while the ripple in the skies seemed to grow. Quite the mystery if one was to ask him.
Which brought them all back to this, a desperate attempt from their leader, who had them make the trip here in hopes of some form of salvation he supposed. Ginter, despite his disposition, had earned the leadership for no small reason. And this action now, was proof of it as he could hear the merchants and guards discuss the incident and all, how the guards were afraid that, whatever it was that took the missing souls, would eventually come for them. Perhaps why it was clear that the village's air seemed far more nervous and unwelcoming than the last few treks he made here. Looking at the impressive building he could barely see beyond the fenced in walls of the village, he had to wonder just what was taking them so long, an hour having to had passed quite easily by now.
"Huh, Volo?" he heard his name get called by one of the merchants, the man, who was now named Volo, turning to see who called him, it was a woman with the same attire as him and the others of the guild, a smile on her face as she seemed to look a little worse for wear. "You caught up, thank goodness" she said as Volo gave the young woman a slight chuckle.
"Of course, It's great to see you all as well" he said with a smooth tone coming from his mouth. "Though, I was here quite a while now, how haven't you noticed me, I'm a little hurt" he said, a joking tone added to his words as the young woman gave him a sigh as a response, her arms crossed while doing so.
"H-honestly, how was I supposed to know you'd be skulking around by the back again" she said, her blue eyes giving him a sarcastically motivated roll, Volo merely laughing it off.
"Sorry, sorry... I just didn't want to interrupt anyone's conversation, it seems like something happened since the last time we visited" he said, turning to her with a frown. "I wonder, has there been another disappearance?" he asked, his tone filled with uncertainty with a bit of theatrics as the young woman shook her head.
"No, there hasn't... it's actually something else" she said as Volo looked at her, interested in her little scoop. "I heard from the guard, that someone else showed up yesterday, wearing these strange clothes and came in with an even stranger Eevee" she said as Volo blinked at that.
"A... strange Eevee?" he asked, unsure what to make of that. "A traveler perhaps?" he asked as the young woman shrugged her shoulders.
"I wouldn't know, all I know is that a young man was brought into the village by the professor, and he apparently left with him and another into the field lands not too long ago" the young woman said, Volo's curiosity growing more and more.
"I see, well I have to say, that would be quite a change of pace. Who knows, maybe we can see if he wants to join the guild, if he comes back at all" he said as the woman looked at him strangely. "He might be from one of the clans, or even be a merchant of his own" he continued, joking a bit on the end. Still, it was rare to see any strangers in the area, since his travels had taken him all over the region, he was always interested in meeting new people.
"I... don't think he is" the woman said as Volo didn't understand the switch in her composure, the somewhat sarcastic woman turning towards him with nervousness. "You see... uh, there are also some rumors" she began as Volo seemed taken back at that. Rumors, beyond the disappearances? "According to the guard, the village is in a tizzy over a report."
"Yeah" another guild member said, having spotted the two of them and joined in with a frown of his own. "I heard that around the time that guy showed up, the guards thought they saw something fall from that hole in the sky" he said, the blond-haired man suddenly stopping in his tracks at the man's words. "People are even claiming this guy, John I think it was, actually fell from that thing" he said, turning towards where the large rift was, hovering ominously above the towering pillar of Mt. Corronet.
"Someone... fell from the rift?" Volo repeated, not sure if he could comprehend such a thing, his grey eyes widening slightly, in disbelief no doubt. "...Well, that certainly explains a lot..." he said while recomposing himself. "I faintly recall another, though... I think the Pearl Clan has that settled..." he more muttered to himself as the young woman shook her head.
"You don't believe that though, right? I mean... if someone did fall from that thing, then... I don't even know how to begin that" the woman said, shaking her head with a somewhat sarcastic response, or perhaps false amusement that covered her uncertainty. "I mean, if what you said was true, then this would be the second person who fell from that thing."
"Perhaps... it is that Almighty Sinnoh that the clans worship?" the other guy said, a frown on his face as Volo thought to himself, his thoughts hidden behind a face of contemplation at the news revolving around this second interloper. Was it because of Almighty Sinnoh?
He was curious to meet this John fellow, perhaps he could answer a few questions for him, and perhaps something more could come about. Yet, despite that thought, as the others began to enter the village, Ginter giving them the okay to do so, Volo remained, lost in thought, having a feeling that something was about to happen, and when it did, that he would witness something truly interesting, to say the least.
With those last thoughts, he made his way into the small village. While he did, a young girl watched the oncoming group of merchants, while staying out of view, her eyes looking at them with curiosity and interest. It would seem the traveling merchants would be making a home here, at least that's what she heard that Ginter guy say.
Her neutral expression fell a slight bit, becoming more of an irritated frown. Well, at least there wasn't much left to do in the village at the moment. She had already decided her champion and finished the business she had here. Her eyes closed as she held a small stone in her hand, a small crack forming as it glowed a faint and mysterious purple light. Seven now, she had managed to return to her keystone, seven mischievous wisps that were only a handful of what escaped. Even now, she could feel them, their souls crying out to be returned, to be freed from their corruption from so long ago.
And she had only truly just begun...
She turned her eyes down to the odd keystone in hand, a small smile as she held it tightly and began to make her way up from her spot on the ground, now moving towards the field lands outside the village. Her partner having left her to survey her champion, to report to her regarding his progress, knowing he would help her atone for their sins, just like the last man had said he would. Making her way silently throughout the village, she was faintly aware that she was being watched, beyond the walls of the Galaxy Hall and by a specific little Pokémon that seemed to have noticed her presence.
Abra frowned slightly from its place in its human's office, sensing the interloper leave, questioning as to why it had arrived at all, and had been in the village for a few days before this second anomaly, this... Jaune Arc, who had recently been enrolled under its human's care, had been. Despite it all, something was clearly wrong, and with hesitance, it chose to let it be. Instead, it returned to its human as she continued to look through and file the multiple reports, each one pertaining to the project at hand.
The Poke Dex...
Cyllene couldn't help but feel exhausted from the recent endeavor, the mountain of paperwork beside her on the desk would be enough to make anyone grow weary. From the older reports of the Survey Corp's members, both active, inactive and currently missing or deceased, she frowned at the actual progress that was made in their reports. So many notes and reports, oh so very little information she hadn't already read before.
'Ugh... another full report on a Burmy' she thought to herself, her eyes quickly scanning the document as she quickly placed it on a smaller pile of reports, she had already gone through a bit earlier. The "Bag Worm" Pokémon, as the professor had decided to call it, as if she hadn't had to observe, read and write down this and many other reports like it enough already. Honestly, why did Laventon decide to give everyone, everyone, a completely new, unwritten and uninformed Poke Dex, when she had a decent amount of it already written down again?
Oh, right... now she remembered.
'Having to write out our own Poke Dex, to fill out the pages and experience these new experiences for ourselves. Can't you think of anything more exhilarating than that?' she recalled the very eager words of the man as she contemplated offering him a special promotion to take up her work and write up the whole thing himself. 'Oh, don't worry too much about it. I'm helping you out as well. Together, we can create Hisui's first official Poke Dex!'
He got to go out, document them in the field and only did some of the paperwork, having a more hands on experience with the Pokémon in question as she was left to the paperwork in the office, often covering for him when he is out and about in the region, surveying in place of her missing or deceased underlings. She shook her head, letting out a tired sigh, having no one to help her now that the professor took on a more proactive role in the fields.
Her thoughts turned back to the Survey Corps in general, the risks were proving to be growing more concerning to them all, her eyes looking away for a second as she turned to her fellow captain's office, the door being closed as she was busy tending to one of Zisu's subordinates. Apparently, a slight accident in the mirelands, attacked by a rogue Zubat of all things that seemed to attack him in mid-day.
It didn't help that some of his supplies were taken before he was found, bandits no doubt, another reason why she was concerned regarding everything going on. The rumors, the disappearances, the bandit attacks, and now... now these reports for this mysterious lightning, and Jaune.
The proverbial cherry on top as it were.
A stranger who clearly was more than what he seemed, the young man a mystery that caught the commander's attention. Was he a threat, was he just a wanderer. She frowned as she recalled what he said, upon realizing his current situation. 'How the hell did I fall from a campsite, fall into some sort of other world or something' she recalled his outburst, amongst the other things he had shouted.
He was not from this world. He didn't seem to know much about Pokémon, his attire, his attitude, his stature, his weapons. More reasons to be suspicious of him, her eyes narrowing at the thought of him. It wasn't hard to tell either that he was hiding something, something that, for now, she wouldn't pry into until she was certain she had to. Carefully watching him, his actions, deciding to see how this played out.
He seemed like a decent person, by any accounts, and Abra had read his mind, ordered to act should he plan anything against them, or having any... unsavory thoughts regarding them. Looking to her Pokémon, she seemed to find herself calming by its demeanor, peaceful, resting, serene even. She would give him the benefit of the doubt she supposed.
Her gaze moved back to the reports, her eyes looking at them one by one, the more reports she read, the more she questioned why she continued to not outright ban catching certain Pokémon and focus on different Pokémon that they haven't already caught. 'We need more diversity, not descriptions' she commented mentally, finishing reading another report, this one of a Shinx. 'We don't need a hundred reports on five Pokémon, we would make do more the other way around' she continued her mental tirade as she continued to go through them all, more reports, more familiar reports from the Survey Corps.
Starly: Documented.
Paras: Done for the fifth time today.
Geodude: Already caught.
Bidoof: She have a drawer filled of those already.
Wurmple: Those wretched, vile creatures...
Scyther: ...wait-
"-Scyther?" she worded, having been taken back a bit as she was genuinely surprised by the genuine new report of a Pokémon she hadn't documented yet. The Pokémon in question, if she recalled correctly was a green mantis that was territorial and found deeper into the field lands, around that large tree in the nearby greenwoods. She placed down the report, her thoughts thinking to the report in question. How was one of them capable of catching a Scyther, recalling just how dangerous they could be. To catch one would be praise-worthy in its own right.
Not only that, but they would usually be found near the Pearl Clan's territory, more accurately near their Noble Pokémon's den. Perhaps they caught it elsewhere or got lucky. She hoped it was one of them, not wanting to accidently cause an issue with the clans. Her eyes closed as she recalled their agreement. They might not have been on the best terms, but the clans were willing to give peace a chance. They revered their noble Pokémon, some more than others as she had the... honor of finding out herself, firsthand.
Thinking about the Noble Pokémon, brought back that rumor of that strange lightning seen above the large tree last night, unsure what caused it or what damage it might have done. She didn't know much else besides what anyone could assume. No doubt the Noble Pokémon's warden, Lian if she recalled the young man correctly, no doubt had his hands full.
Before she could return to her work however, she was met with a sudden interruption, a voice speaking up, one that was not any of the captains she knew. "Excuse me" the voice called out, Cyllene looking to the younger-looking woman who spoke in a calming tone. "I hope you forgive my intrusion?"
The woman in question was certainly someone a man would swoon over, recalling the woman in question, their first and only meeting in the first few weeks of their arrival in Hisui. She was a good head taller than either Akari or Rei were, perhaps a few inches shorter than Jaune seemed to be, having the same blue eyes color-wise but nothing else to bare a resemblance. Her black hair seemed to be held in a particular style with a pin of sorts within it and her attire being that of someone she knew was very important.
"...You are... Mai of the Diamond Clan, are you not?" Cyllene asked, her eyes widening from the sudden arrival, not sure what to make of it but recomposing herself from any sort of shock she might have expressed. The woman nodded, a Pokémon standing beside her, a Pokémon that was rounder and no doubt hungrier than her Abra, the Munchlax looking at the psychic type of Pokémon in interest.
"I am" Mai responded with a soft smile. "I hope I did not intrude on you, but I was told by your guards to meet with you, as well as a woman known as Captain Zisu" she informed the older woman, earning a quirked eyebrow from the captain of the Survey Corps. "It is in regard to a small... incident in the Obsidian Field lands" she said as Cyllene frowned.
"An incident?" she asked, confused as to what the warden had meant, why she had showed up, sought both her and the captain of the Security Corps out. Mai seemed to nod, a frown now on her face as she seemed troubled about her apparent request.
"Yes, you see... we wardens are often tasked with looking after our clan's nobles. We hold a great deal regarding them, as we had mentioned before. Normally, we wouldn't ask for help, especially from those outside of the Diamond Clan, however... this seems to be a bit of an exception" she began with a frown. "Two days ago, our noble, Noble Wyrdeer, was attacked by a powerful Pokémon, no doubt trying to take over it's territory. Before we could deal with it, the Pokémon fled off into the field lands, no doubt to recover from the battle between it and our noble" Mai said as Cyllene understood what the raven-haired woman had come for.
"I see... and you want us to help you deal with this Pokémon?" Cyllene asked, her gaze hardening as Mai nodded once again, though decided to word her request a bit more carefully to not give her the wrong idea.
"Indeed, though I was hoping for some advice on to battling it. The Pokémon, while matching our noble's strength, should not be at full power right now. But according to one of our clansmen, it seems to have taken over one of the nearby backs of its own. By itself, it shouldn't be an issue, but with others around it" she said, her expression hardening.
"You need backup to handle the extra numbers" Cyllene said. "...I understand. Do you know what Pokémon it is?" Cyllene asked as Mai nodded.
"I do, a frightening and powerful Pokémon, a Luxray" she said, Cyllene nodding her head, now understanding everything. "I was told that this Luxray could have made it's way down from the Corronet Highlands, or at least that's what we assume could've happened. I was hoping to talk to Meli regarding it to see if he knew anything about it. But back to my request..." she said, trying to get back on track. "I was hoping I could get some more information regarding Shinx, Luxio or the Luxray itself. And I was told that your captain, Zisu if I recall, had a Luxray of her own. I am hoping to have some help in more than just numbers, but to drive it out of the field lands before it could attack our noble once again."
"You are in luck then" Cyllene said, a faint smile on her face, "Though, we don't have too much regarding Luxray, but Captain Zisu is a skilled battler and her Luxray is a forced to be reckoned with..." she said as she folded her hands while giving it thought. She hadn't heard about this until now, she supposed a proper warning should be put into place, so no one accidently bumped into it. Once the professor got back from Jaune's trial... then...
Captain Cyllene frowned. her mind turning quickly to what Mai had said, a sense of unease beginning to fill her as she looked at Mai and frowned. "...Where exactly in the Obsidian Field lands did you say this Luxray was again?" asking the woman in question regarding where the Noble Wyrdeer had chased off the wild Pokémon.
"...The last I recalled; it was chased off around the Horseshoe Plains..." Mai said simply before noticing the slight wince the other woman managed to conceal better than she must've thought she did. "...Is, something wrong?" Mai asked as Cyllene could already stood before turning towards the entrance of the Galaxy Hall, seeing a familiar person returning.
"Rei!" she called out, catching both Mai and the young man off guard at the sudden tone. "Prepare to leave to the Obsidian Field lands, immediately!" Hearing her command, Rei nodded, though not sure why? Did something happen, was Akari and the others alright? Seeing her stern expression grow, Rei nodded and quickly turned around, heading outside the door. Cyllene heading to find Zisu to act as possible backup. As she left, Mai looked on, wondering just what happened to make the other woman suddenly act.
It was almost as if she was having a battle with the Luxray and its tribe herself...
"Cyndaquil... use Ember!"
"Aqua Jet, Oshawot!"
"Chingling, use your Confusion!"
With their commands ushered, both Akari and Jaune throwing out their separate Poké Balls into the open field, their Pokémon appearing in a flash of light as they both joined their fellow Pokémon in the fray. The area was covered in a clear and noticeable tension, started by the three Shinx and met by the three Pokémon that dared challenge them.
Jaune eyed one of the Shinx, having sent his Cyndaquil to battle, the small fire type Pokémon appearing with a cry as her back erupted with a flurry of burning flames. Taking in a deep breath of air, she spewed out a scattering of fire, aiming at the Shinx that she had singled out with a desire to battle. The Shinx, having noticed the attack however, leaped away and focused on the other Pokémon, it's interest now taken to meet the fire with it's electrical offensive. Jaune quickly noticed a faint light begin to form around it, the air around him growing more electrified as he didn't need to ask what was about to come their way.
With a cry, he saw a wave of electrical energy shoot towards both him and Cyndaquil, the fire type having leaped to safety while Jaune managed to side-step it, the electrical attack striking a nearby tree that was behind them both, Jaune taking a side glance and found himself frowning some more.
The bark was now charred to a crisp, having now been burnt black from the electrical bolt of lightning that was aimed for them. Jaune returned his attention to the Shinx, a hand subconsciously reaching for the hilt of Crocea Mors with aura subtly flowing freely within him. "Cyndaquil, keep your distance, don't get hit with that attack!" Jaune called out, Cyndaquil not needing to see the tree to understand getting struck by the Shinx's Thunder Shock wouldn't end too well for it. Instead, it continued to attack, spitting out more fire towards the small lynx Pokémon as it continued to barely evade the flames. Jaune felt Juniper beside him, rushing to his side while he battled the first Shinx. Beside him he heard the battle between both Akari, Wanda, and their respective Pokémon.
Akari herself was happy to have dealt the first blow, her Oshawot having quickly surrounded itself in water and propelling itself to deliver the strike that sent the Shinx tumbling backwards. While it was good for a surprise attack, Akari's happiness turned to minor fear as the Shinx her Oshawot challenged got up and glared at them both.
The battle was an uphill one and that was putting it not only nicely but bluntly as well, the typing disadvantage her Oshawot faced being one that would make her mentally curse at her own recklessness. She still had other Pokémon waiting in the pastures, she herself had to battle and catch a Shinx. So why exactly did she forget to go grab it again?
Her attention however went from questioning her past choices to focusing on her present ones. The Shinx, similar to the ones Jaune and Wanda both faced off against, began to gather it's energy, making Akari give out another command. "Oshawot, avoid it's Thunder Shock!" she commanded, the otter Pokémon, who had held its shell in its hand, nodding as it ran away to gain some distance from the lynx Pokémon. Seconds later, Oshawot could practically feel the electricity, having to instinctually leap out of the way to avoid the attack. Turning around, Akari continued to give it orders, not like there was much she could do other than try to catch it.
Her eyes filled with determination, a plan forming in her mind as she reached for a Poké Ball from her satchel. She looked at her Pokémon turning at her, awaiting her command. "Keep using Aqua Jet, just avoid whatever attacks it sends at you!" Akari said, the Oshawot nodding as it continued its assault.
Wanda was in a similar situation, her clothes covered in dirt and her straw-hat having fallen off sometime during the run towards the area between Aspiration Hill and the Horseshoe Plains. Despite that, she seemed to be doing better than her Pokémon had, having to battle against the three Shinx in a three on one battle. She however refused to give in, now that her reinforcements had arrived to help her.
Ordering her Pokémon to attack, her Chingling gave out a weakened but still audible, bell-like chime. with her eyes glowing faintly in its psychic powers, before a similar energy faintly coated it's figure like a small veil. Facing against one of the Shinx, it to was coated with the psychic energy.
The Shinx gave out a cry, wailing in discomfort as the psychic energy dug into it. However, as soon as it appeared, the energy was shaken off, dispelled by the static that surged around the other Pokémon, as it began to charge up a Thunder Shock to fight back. "Chingling, evade it's attack!" Wanda called out, the Chingling jumping into the air and using its powers to levitate slightly, descending at a slower pace.
The attack came, the Chingling bouncing away at a surprisingly swift pace, Wanda covering her face with her arm as the electrical jolt struck the ground beside her. Recomposing herself, Wanda gave a second order, her eyes burning as the battle seemed to be much fairer for her now. "Now, use your Tackle!" she commanded.
Chingling landed on her feet, before leaping towards the Shinx and managing to deal a blow to it, Shinx stumbling slightly as it was grazed from the ambush. Chingling turned around, the distance closed as the Shinx growled before opening it's mouth, lunging towards the bell Pokémon with fangs barred.
Chingling let out a cry, having been bit by the lynx Pokémon, a super effective attack dealing clear damage to the already injured Pokémon. "Chingling!" Wanda cried as both Akari and Jaune turned with shock. Noticing their distraction, the other two Shinx struck.
Oshawot let out a cry, having been bitten as well, dropping its shell as the fangs bore into it. Likewise, Cyndaquil was blasted with a shock of her opponent's Thunder Shock, flinching in pain as Jaune's attention returned. He needed a plan now, the battle now turning from three on three to three on two. Without warning, Jaune reached into his satchel and threw out his other Poké Ball.
"Bidoof, let's go!" he said as he threw out the small beaver Pokémon into battle. "Use your Tackle!" Jaune commanded, pointing at the Shinx that bit into Oshawot as the Bidoof hesitantly did so. Running at the Shinx, the Pokémon let go of the water Pokémon it deemed as it's opponent, running back as Bidoof followed.
Akari however, seeing her Pokémon freed from the fangs of the Shinx, decided to act as well. "Oshawot, use Aqua Jet and help Wanda out!" she said, Oshawot picking up its shell and surrounding itself in a veil of water. As she turned to Wanda, she saw her avoid a Thunder Shock that the Shinx aimed at her. As it missed, it sensed something approaching, turning to take an Aqua Jet to its face, falling onto the ground.
"Akari?!" Wanda called out confused but at the same time relieved to have more help. "W-what about-?!" she began as she turned to see the other two Shinx in question, Jaune taking control of the situation.
"Cyndaquil, are you alright?!" Jaune asked with concern, the porcupine Pokémon staggering back to her feet and turning back towards her human partner. Nodding her head, Jaune smiled before turning towards the two Shinx that had finally regrouped while Bidoof did the same with Cyndaquil. Jaune watched as they seemed to prepare to fight, Jaune narrowing his eyes as he noticed Juniper's cries, having decided to support the two Pokémon Jaune had brought out to battle with. "Alright then, Cyndaquil, use Quick Attack, Bidoof, cover her with your Tackle. Aim for the one on the left!" he said, deciding to tag team one of them.
Cyndaquil nodded, aiming at the Shinx on the left that continued the battle, the porcupine running into the lynx before it could properly evade it. Falling onto its side, it saw the Bidoof run up to it, only to be cut off by the other Shinx interfering, taking the hit instead. As they battled, both of them responded with a bite which earned a pained cry from both of Jaune's Pokémon. However, Jaune smiled, a plan seemingly coming together.
"Bidoof, bite it back!" Jaune commanded, the small beaver Pokémon, despite the pain, managed to twist its body and bite down with its own teeth, managing to force the Shinx to let go. "Cyndaquil, use Ember on the Shinx, you can't miss it now!" Jaune shouted, Cyndaquil, despite the pain, gathering flames before releasing it straight into the Shinx's face. The Shinx recoiled, the flames temporarily blinding it as it fell to its back and tried to extinguish the flames. Jaune, seeing Cyndaquil still willing to go, commanded one last attack. "Help Bidoof with Quick Attack!" he said as Cyndaquil endured the pain and rushed at the Shinx held down by her newest partner. The Shinx freezing as the last thing it saw was Cyndaquil nailing into it with a great burst of speed.
Bidoof let go as both it and Shinx were sent flying, Bidoof having the lighter of the landing. The Shinx however, fell to the ground near Jaune's feet, Jaune quickly pulling out a spare Poké Ball and tossing it towards the blue and black Pokémon. As the Shinx found itself in the Poké Ball, Jaune ran back away from the Poké Ball, in case it didn't work, as he did, he witnessed Akari have a similar idea to his.
Oshawot let out a cry of pain, caught in the electrical discharge of the wild Shinx that managed a hit with its Thunder Shock. Recalling the Pokémon in its Poké Ball, Akari pulled out an empty Poké Ball. Throwing it at the Shinx that noticed the battle between Jaune's Pokémon and its kin. As it prepared to help the other wild Shinx, it was suddenly hit with Akari's Poké Ball, having been pulled into it before the Poké Ball shook wildly.
Jaune noticed the Poké Ball he used to catch the Shinx in produce a small spark, confirming the Shinx's capture. Seeing the sole Shinx remaining, it had charged up a Thunder Shock and shoot out a wave of electricity towards the two Pokémon. Bidoof leaped away, Cyndaquil barely dodging, before flipping herself on her back as the flames were now extinguished. It was clear the battle was about to end, all three remaining Pokémon at their limits and on their last legs. Recalling Cyndaquil, the porcupine was returned to the red and cream-colored capsule to rest, Bidoof still ready to battle. Jaune turned to Akari, who nodded at him reaching into her satchel once more. Jaune nodded as they both seemed to have a similar idea.
Jaune acted, declaring one last call. "Tackle, Bidoof!" he called as the Bidoof began to run, the Shinx growling angrily as it ran at it with fangs bared. It evaded the tackling beaver, jumping out of the way before turning back and biting into Bidoof, the beaver giving out a cry. Jaune readied his Poké Ball as an attempt to catch the Shinx, only for Akari to beat him to it. The Shinx was nabbed by the Poké Ball, the capsule falling onto the injured Bidoof that laid on the ground. Jaune instead held Bidoof's Poké Ball and quickly returned it, both him and Cyndaquil having done a great job in their battle.
Returned to its Poké Ball, Jaune returned Bidoof to the satchel alongside Cyndaquil and Starly. He watched with bated breath alongside both Akari and Wanda, seeing if the Shinx would break out of the ball and seek to continue battling them. Such a concern, however, did not come to be, the Poké Ball containing the linx Pokémon, sprouting out a spark, indicating it's capture, the battle now fully decided.
It was over. Jaune let out a tired sigh while Akari fell to her knees, Wanda keeling over slightly as her messy hair flew freely from the movement. "That was... that was..." Wanda tried to word it, trying to find the right way to describe it.
"Horrifying, stressful, dangerous?" Akari worded, sounding somewhat annoyed yet thankful as Wanda nodded her head, Akari picking up one of the Shinx she caught and began to make way for the second one. Jaune meanwhile picked up his own Shinx's Poké Ball, now understanding why it could be a dangerous job to be out in the fields, his blue eyes observing the capsule holding his newly acquired Pokémon. Juniper looked up at him, yipping concerned about him as Jaune placed the Poké Ball into his satchel, four Pokémon to his name, counting Juniper of course, and with that there was three Pokémon caught, and one Pokémon left.
Turning towards the two girls, he made his way to them. "Are you two alright?" he asked, the two women turning to him and nodding.
"Yeah... just, give us a second, alright?" Wanda asked as Akari had to agree.
"I didn't expect a horde of them..." Akari commented, before looking back towards the both of them. A frown on her face as she let out a sigh. "...But that was wild, we actually managed to catch them all" she said, happy at their victory.
"Yeah, you two are something else" Wanda said with a laugh, having fully recomposed herself, brushing herself off as her straw hat laid near her. "I thought I was a goner before I ran into you two. I guess me and Chingling owe you both our lives" she said, a little too cheerful than Jaune personally liked.
"How did you get riled up at you?" Jaune asked, his words filled with genuine confusion as Wanda turned to him before frowning slightly, her arms crossed as she seemed to feel a rush of heat to her face.
"I... ugh, I got careless" she said as they frowned. "I was too busy looking for berries for the food storage that I let them get the jump on me. I didn't expect to see some Shinx around the Horseshoe Plains though. Maybe a Ponyta, or a Bidoof, but not a Shinx or a Luxio" she said. Jaune blinked at that, not familiar with the name. Akari similarly taken aback by that, but quickly having her confusion and fear overtake the small shock.
"A Luxio?" Jaune asked.
"There was a Luxio?" Akari asked soon after as Wanda frowned but nodded her head.
"Y-yeah, there was a few Shinx, and a Luxio or two... and then... I don't know, this giant Luxray in the middle of them" she responded while Jaune frowned.
"Wait, I'm getting a little lost here, what exactly is a Luxio... what's a Luxray?" he had to ask, not knowing just what the Security Corps member was talking about. Akari turned to him, at first ready to make a remark before pausing.
'...Right, Jaune... isn't from around here' she thought, remembering his situation. 'He didn't know what a Shinx was, it makes sense that he wouldn't know about their evolutions' she thought before giving him a weak smile. "Luxio and Luxray are Shinx's evolution" she explained, making Jaune more confused.
"Evolution?" he asked as Wanda nodded.
"Yes, well... apparently Pokémon can go through something called "Evolution" somehow, and their forms change... like your Eevee there" Wanda said, earning a perked ear from the Eevee in question as Wanda smiled. "There are times an Eevee will evolve, with evolution stones and stuff."
"...I'm not sure I really follow" he muttered to himself, a frown on his face that was shared by Juniper, not sure what a stone had to do with her "Evolving," whatever that was supposed to be.
"I'm sure the professor can answer that better than I can" Akari said, earning a look from the others. "Speaking of which..." she said as she turned to face where the base camp was. "We should probably head back to camp and rest" she said with a glance down at her satchel that carried her Oshawot "and our Pokémon could use the rest, and I think we should let the professor know about the Luxio and Luxray.".
She was right, looking back at both his Cyndaquil's and his newly caught Shinx's conditions it was clear that they could use a rest, or at the very least get more medicine like that potion stuff the professor gave them after their battle. Making a quick note about finding a way to get ahold of a few more for later, Jaune noticed Akari and Wanda make their way towards the camp. As he trailed beside him, he contemplated something else.
His semblance, he could use it to restore them, amplifying their own auras using his own. It was strange to think that somehow, these Pokémon had an aura, much like a huntsmen or huntress did, it brought up questions since he didn't expect this world to have such a thing. No one in the Ever After had an aura, it was just magic and stuff. Hisui on the other hand...
'Just more questions for the pile, Jaune' he thought to himself as he concentrated his aura into his hand. As he did, he saw the symbol light up once again, a frown on his face as he quickly cut off his semblance to make the design on his skin vanish as well, leaving only a warmth where it once stood. 'Then there's that...' Jaune thought, the symbol still a mystery to him as he tried to recall why it seemed so familiar. Before he could think about it more however, he was interrupted by a loud roar, causing him and the others to stop in their tracks.
Jaune's eyes widened as he could practically sense something nearby, the swordsman instinctually turning and drawing his weapon as he could, if barely, feel something glaring into him. Looking up towards a nearby boulder, he instantly noticed something doing just that. A giant creature peered down at them; its glowing red eyes filled with anger as he could sense the static in the air becoming much more potent than he remembered during the battle with the Shinx.
The creature growled as a much stronger concentration of lightning began to build up. Jaune instantly reacting and unfolded his shield, in hindsight a stupid idea to use a metal shield of rust to defend against electricity, or perhaps it was the fact that the larger Pokémon's gaze eyed them all, old instincts kicking in as the Pokémon roared once again.
"T-that's the-" Akari said, her eyes widening in horror as Wanda shivered, not expecting the Pokémon to follow her here as well. Jaune cursed as it leaped down from its position and gathered lightning around it. Jaune eyed it, not daring to look away, he could hear Juniper cry out from behind him. Its gaze turned to the two girls, Jaune's eyes widened as a greater surge of lightning began to build up.
"...W-we need to leave, we need to get back to camp, now!" Wanda's voice spoke not only silently yet so clearly to the somewhat knight. Her tones filled with a similar dread as she showed no signs of trying to hide the terror before her. "We can't fight that thing, our Pokémon..." she whispered as Jaune cursed. Akari took a step back, Jaune moved, amplifying with his semblance as the symbol glowed brightly but went unnoticed by all but the Pokémon sought to attack them.
As if on instinct to cover them from the attack, he ran before them, Juniper quickly following him fearfully. The light grew brighter, the power grew greater, the air grew thicker and harder to breathe. He brought up his shield, not sure what it would even do anything to protect them, his eyes focused as Akari and Wanda called his name in shock. He wasn't sure who said it, he was focused on the lightning. His aura exploded as some light poured from him to match it as the area was shrouded with energy.
"Get behind me!" Jaune shouted before the lightning finished building up. The creature launched its attack, Jaune brought up his shield, the world erupted in pure electricity with Jaune expected the worst. His shield took the blow, his aura activating the faint remnants of the gravity dust enhancement from Atlas that repelled some of the attack away. Despite this, the Pokémon's attack broke through.
As the attack struck into his shield, Jaune grit his teeth as Wanda and Akari both ran to avoid the actual attack. Jaune knew his aura would keep him protected from the damages of injury but doing little to nothing for the pain and his mind moved towards the two girls behind him that managed to move out of the attack's radius. With his body going stiff, his muscles going into spasm, his vision completely enveloped by a yellow light of pure and unrestrained lightning, an attack meant to punish them, those who would have dared approach it's territory.
Jaune's world was filled with nothing but agony, yet despite that he could feel himself flying back, crashing into something as his aura took the hit. His body shook as he had lost his grip on his weapons. Pushing past the pain, he pulled himself up, wincing as he did as he turned towards the others. His eyes widening as he noticed them on the ground, both of them unmoving as fear filled him.
'N-no, no!' he thought in horror, a flash of Penny coming to mind as he turned to the Luxray in fury. its eyes focused on him alone, seeing the other two dealt with. Angrily, Jaune eyed the damaged blade of Crocea Mors that laid on the ground, unable to see where his shield went, reaching down and grasping it, he channeled the rest of his aura into it, the blade glowing brightly and his aura extending outwards to create a completed sword of his amplified aura.
Juniper was further away, having fallen to her side from the attack's power that knocked her back beyond the two girls, her small body forcing her way up as she noticed she was unharmed, just knocked down. Her eyes turned to the battle, Jaune's sword held tightly, the Luxray's fangs bared and glowing with a dark energy. Both Akari and Wanda, laying on the ground as small sparks of electricity lingered around them, their bodies twitching slightly as groan escaped them as they began to stir.
They were alive, but clearly down for the count. Instead, her eyes turned to Jaune and the giant Luxray, the Pokémon rushing to bite at him, to crush him between its fangs. Jaune, despite the pain he was in, despite his arm going numb and the aura blade he created flickering from his lack of concentration, still brought up the sword to defend himself.
As the giant Luxray ran and bit into Crocea Mors, Jaune's aura spiked, Juniper's body glowed, and a new power erupted. Away from the area near Deertrack Heights, Laventon and Dorian turned, a man with blue hair and matching clothes before them as the area near the Horseshoe Plains pulsed with raw energy. And from its spot, an injured and tended to Pokémon ran towards the area, ready for a rematch and beckoned by the mysterious powers.
"Noble Wyrdeer?!" the man asked, alarmed as his clan's noble Pokémon fled to the plains beyond the river, leaving Laventon, Dorian and himself behind, and forcing them to follow.
Jaune's Pokémon:
000: Juniper/ Eevee: Party:
001: Cyndaquil: Party:
002: Bidoof: Party:
003: Starly: Party:
004: Shinx: Party:
And there we go. It's a little on the small end, but honestly, I didn't really know how I wanted to write it. This is actually the third or fourth draft I wrote and decided on. Anyways, I hope you liked it, and it shows off where Jaune fairs overall as a trainer and a fighter. Despite him seeming weak, keep in mind that, Aura doesn't block pain, I double checked the RWBY Wiki and is apparently said it doesn't block heat or pain, just damage.
Safe to say this is where the plot tends to go off course from the games. I hope you have a great day, or night.
