Herohero was in his room on the ninth floor. He was considering his options for exploration as he was not sure who inhabited this world but there was a good chance Humanity or some equivalent of them were the main ones. But he still had no idea so while he looked through his options. Luckily for him all the options before him included equipment that would not be affected by his racial ability like their acid or the specific Elder Black Ooze trait of having the strongest corrosive ability of all the slimes. So long as he wore them, which was great since it would be quite awkward. He also had his Divine class weapon which he had originally given to Momonga because he was not sure when he would be able to take part in a raid or event again so it felt pointless at the time. If only he knew.
His divine class weapon was The Gautlets of the Ancients. It was completely unaffected by his ability and even enhanced it drastically. He was one of the top Elder Black Ooze players thanks to this though even among slimes it was not a race often used among players. "I feel bad that I gave these away now. But it is comforting to hear Momonga saved it with everyone else's items." Herohero accidentally spoke his mind. Sebas overheard him, "Yes Lord Momonga saved each and every piece of our Supreme beings after they departed for another world that he could. He truly deserves his place as the leader of Nazarick."
Sebas bowed to Herohero, "I know you will lead us well in his absence."
Herohero could chuckle if he did not realize how bad that made him feel. He was willing to throw it all away while Momonga had wanted to save everything even if the game would eventually shut down. Herohero wondered if he could have done the same.
Both he and Sebas looked back at the Mirror of Viewing that sat at the side of the room. Finally, they could see the village that Sebas had theorized was nearby. But what they saw were knights attacking people and killing as many as they could. Sebas had looked more intently. Herohero wonders if Sebas felt so strongly about going.
'If Touch Me were here, he would be there in a heartbeat.' Herohero was not against the idea because they did need more information and helping these people could gain their trust. 'Plus, Herohero is the name I suppose.' He tried to remember why he picked that name for the game but that did not matter right now.
"Inform either Aureole or Shalltear I wish for them to use Gate and set it up near that village. I will need someone to come with me as well, Sebas find a disguise and meet me back here afterward."
Ideally, Herohero would have picked someone with full body armor like Albedo since she could hide any non-human features. Shalltear would give off too much of a vampiric presence and if anyone could tell that would expose them. Sebas seemed like the safest option even if that would leave them without magic covers. He would be more inclined to help Carne village as well. The only reason Herohero wants Sebas disguised is because they know very little about this world. Even if it was exactly like YGGDRASIL which did not seem likely at the moment, it would be better to collect information first.
After Sebas was gone Herohero looked for options that covered up his appearance the most, "No matter which I pick I'll come off as short or as a dwarf," He sighed heavily.
He faced one outfit. it was one he got from a Cherry Blossom Event in YGGDRASIL. Momonga and a few others were there as well and he barely remembers much of it.
"I almost got fired by my shitty boss for showing up one minute late for work because of it." He was irritated at the time because he stayed late and got less sleep than he already usually got. But now he wished he had stayed the full-time. He grabbed the outfit and also the mask of Envy he had.
"Big sister!" A little girl shouts as her older sister trips on something while helping her sister escape out of the village while men wearing knight armor. But neither made it very far. Yet before the knight could cut the woman down a sort of burst hit the Knight. When the other knights saw their comrade on the ground they quickly drew their swords.
"Hello Gentlemen," That was the last thing either knight heard before their necks were instantly snapped.
The woman and her sister huddled close to one another as they saw their two saviors. The one that killed the last two wore platted armor, it was silver much like the knights that attacked. But it looked different as the alternate colors were black and red. The helmet of the armor was additionally more greyish. but the odd part was the white gloves that did not match the rest of the attire.
The one that initially saved them seemed shorter than expected. But they moved so fast before neither even realized it was them who killed the first Knight. The knight additionally seemed to have his armor melted partially along with the skin under it, the older sister covered the younger one's eyes before she saw it. The Man? woman? who ever wore a long cloak of some kind that was red and salmon-pink, with a kind of berry painted around it. Gautlets that in no way matched the Robe-cloak combo. And an odd red and green mask that felt a little discomforting to see.
Herohero could see how shaken up the two were, 'I must have scared them on top of their already frightening experience.'
"May we help you two up?"
Herohhero and Sebas helped the two stand again and Sebas gave the woman a potion. "W-what gentleman," The young woman said before drinking the red potion. 'A red potion? I have never seen one before. I wonder where they got it, maybe from Nfriea?'
"It was no issue. We could not just sit idly by," Herohero tried to come off as friendly but considering how had to move in order to cover up his slimy ooze made it very difficult.
The girl poked her head out but remained hidden behind her sister's back "M-mister Scary knight and scary berry dwarf, thank you for saving us."
Herohero felt thunderstorms in his psyche. Sure there was nothing wrong with dwarfs, but she had only called him that because of his short stature, It was not his fault that was how Slimes were! and what's this about berry dwarves?! 'Have they never seen a cherry before!?'
"Nemu! I apologize to you two!" The young woman bowed her head, "I am Enri Emmot, my sister and I live in Carve village. but the rest," her eyes closed, "a-and our parents are still trapped inside with the rest!"
Herohero cleared his throat, "No worries we shall clear them out," he tried to choke down his very small injured pride. And gave himself a personal reminder to use a better disguise.
"What are your names, if I may ask?"
Herohero stopped for a moment, "You can just call me Hero. and he is Sebas."
Herohero and Sebas, mostly Sebas, cleared out the attackers quite easily. Sebas seemed to end each one quickly while Herohero was trying to use the opportunity to practice combat in this world without his usual U.I., and it required a little more forethought but only so much as he knew his skills.
He would manage to learn a fair bit about this world from the village chief who was happy to help after his village was saved and did not even question it when both of them did not know basic stuff like the money here and about all the countries.
Herohero learned YGGDRASIL currency would not be useful here but he could sell items and it for their raw material. That was useful. It was ironic considering his past life but was already considering what the best way to get more money besides adventuring would be. While Adventure guilds being a thing in this world intrigued him greatly.
But to him a combination of adventuring and merchant business would yield big results.
He would think about all of that before the funeral where the villagers were buried and paid respect to those lost in the raid. Sebas did not fully understand but was not disrespectful about it, he quietly asked what the point of this was but in a calm tone.
"I suppose...," Herohero's only funeral experience was his dad's, the old man breathed in too many fumes without his mask one day and did not last long after making it home. He would hear about other's deaths, but none he had time to think or grieve about due to his job. There was one Momentary time when he briefly felt grief after something Momonga had emailed him about, the person that was lost was still someone Herohero had to force into the back of his mind, "...It is to say goodbye to those they will never see again."
That did not even begin to describe what the point was. He somehow felt like he could not even recall why it was so important but as a former Human, he knew it was important. Herohero saw Enri hugging her little sister while they both cried. Their parents were killed, both of them. He briefly recalled his mother would always check in on him but he barely responded and sometimes never did. He wondered how she was.
Herohero slowly moved to where the graves were which got the attention of the villagers. He had to use a specific Ki master skill, one he should have dumped a while ago for a better offensive skill. Flow of cultivation.
Flowers started to grow around the graves. Maybe he was just being like this because his own thoughts left him feeling sympathetic. Or maybe, it was his own way of saying goodbye to those he never could.
"Thank you, Hero!"
Nemu smiled brightly while she suddenly hugged Herohero. The Elder black Ooze was a little surprised but he let it happen, even though he was not so heartless to shoo a kid away despite not being their biggest fan. He still remembers a certain kid who got HIM in trouble just because he reported the kid to the boss for spray painting one of their windows from the inside. That boss was that kid's uncle. Herohero had to work overtime without pay for a week thanks to that brat. But Nemu was not that brat. Just a kid who lost her parents and only had her older sister left. So he was fine with it.
Before Herohero and Sebas could leave though a man in armor along with new knights approached him. Herohero backed up when he was approached because of what had happened before but the village chief came and told "Hero", who this man was.
Gazef Stronoff. Warrior captain of their kingdom.
Gazef had thanked "Hero" for saving Carne village because he was worried he would be too late. The man even joked about the name and wondered if "Hero" was actually his name or a cover name. To which Herohero only replied, "It's only four letters more you are missing," Thankfully Gazef did not press for what that meant.
It was all good until someone reported that the village was being attacked again. When they were described, Gazef was sure the group of attackers led by a priest was from the Slane Theocracy, he had his own reasons for believing why they were here but he did not want to tell Herohero why. As it was rather political.
Herohero and Sebas were asked by Gazef to help protect the villagers which they accepted without any trouble. But Herohero and Sebas watched the battle while Sebas was sure to keep his senses just in case anyone went to where the villagers were hiding.
The battle intrigued Herohero for two reasons. The angels that were summoned were similar to that of YGGDRASIL. Secondly, was something Gazef had used. Martial arts: Forfold slash of Light.
Martial arts? it seemed to be similar to skills but it was something Herohero latched onto, it seemed interesting. Another reason to explore this new world.
Unfortunately, Gazef's men were soon all dead and Gazef was almost down.
The leader, Nigun, smiled at the warrior, saying he should abandon the village to save himself. But Gazef taunted him that there was already someone far stronger than him in Carne village.
Before a finishing blow could be given to Gazef he suddenly found himself at the edge of the village, being placed down by Sebas.
"Sir Sebas? wait where is-?" Gazef smirked realizing "Hero" never planned to wait until they were all gone despite his request to do so. He could already see the oddly dressed man standing where he once stood.
"What in the six gods is that?" Nigun said as he laid eyes on Herohero. It could be a dwarf but the way Herohero moved did not sit right with him or his men. He just pointed two angels to attack.
The light swords seemed to pierce Herohero. The underlings of the Sunlight Scripture celebrated the "Stronger warrior's" quick downfall. But Herohero did not even seem fazed. He just held onto the angels with his gauntlets and Nigun could only watch as the angels struggled and melted away from the front to the back. It was not even a spell that did it.
"Interesting," Herohero gripped his "fingers" a few times.
"All of them attack at once!" The rest of the angels, rather, Archangel Flames went right for Herohero but it was the same each time, taken down in one hit without ever dealing damage.
Nigun quickly summons a Principality Observation. Herohero activates Natural Steel Weapon and with one strike the new summon was downed.
In a last bit of desperation, Nigun uses his sealing Crystal that he was only supposed to use if Gazef was beyond their calculations. A Dominion Authority. Nigun is initially ecstatic saying this was the highest Angel that could possibly be summoned. Saying even if "Hero" was a demon god he would stand no chance against it.
Herohero was however disappointed. That was it? He remembers the first sub-boss of Heavenly Dungeon being a Dominion Authority. What a letdown.
The Dominion Authority used Holy Smite, On Herohero.
"Damage. Him, I was beginning to wonder when I would feel it," Herohero laughed for a second. This fight was educational. Which was why he would end it quickly. He would try his best not to kill Nigun as well, more information for later.
Nigun fell to his knees as in two blows, a massive hole appeared in the Dominion Authority. It looked as though the Angel summon was rotting from where the hole had formed already.
Herohero was now right in front of Nigun.
"W-what are you?"
"Certainly not a berry Dwarf. But something you should be very scared of."
Herohero stood in front of his room on the Ninth floor. Demiurge had informed him of all people, because Albedo refused to talk to him, he should retire to his quarters after a long day. Solution Epsilon was waiting for him and bowed.
"I made sure to fix up your bed for your return."
Herohero looked at the door, he did not feel tired but he had never been given the opportunity to sleep for however long he wanted. Let alone in such a luxurious bed.
'But could I even sleep?'
He wondered if it could happen. But what did he have to lose? The worst thing that could happen is this is how a wonderful dream ends ironically with him going to bed.
"Wait out here Solution, I will call you in if needed."
Solution Epsilon opened the door for Herohero and he moved inside, it was like a dream bedroom he was sure even his Jerk managers never got to see. His bed was so big that he had to move for ten seconds before he reached the center of it.
He fell back into the cushy pillow and soft bed. He had never felt something so soft and comforting. He almost felt bad for ruining the sheets with his Ooze but realized either part of the bed including the blanket was covered in it.
'Even my dreams about finding a better bed to sleep on were never this good. My poor brain was to overworked to think of something better.'
Herohero laid there for who knows how long. His slimy body practically melted against the bed he almost felt like a puddle. He could stay like this for hours. In fact he did stay like that for hours until he realized something, he could not fall asleep. At least he did not this whole time.
He worried as his body re-solified itself. What if he still needed his sleeping medication in order to sleep even a wink? He would never be able to get that! What if his race was not even capable of sleep?! That would be far worse!
Herohero felt terrible such a waste of a bed and room! he moved up and was practically standing on the bed, "Solution, enter."
Solution Epsilon entered the room and bowed her head, "What is it my Lord Herohero?"
Herohero's void like eyes narrowed into a sorrowful look, "I Appreciate working on making the bed for me."
Solution smiled like a sadistic woman, her happy smile, "I would do no less for you."
Herohero sighed a little, "I- well, it is just I cannot sleep like this-"
The solution came closer to the bed "Oh no, have I messed up? Should I check to see if maybe one of the other Supreme Being's beds has better sheets? Or Pillows? Or blankets?"
"That's not the issue-"
"You're right it would be rude to take from the other supreme beings. I can make them from scratch!"
"You don't have to do-"
"You can sleep on me if you-"
"SOLUTION STOP!" Herohero shook his head, "I swear you have not messed up. This bed is perfect every bit of it. But I simply cannot sleep. That is on me not you."
Solution Epsilon looked so downtrodden she nearly fell on her knees. Herohero feels bad for all this build-up from the new world, his worrying about Momonga, Albedo's attitude, his own frustration, and his inability to sleep at all. He was having trouble controlling himself.
"Please Solution, let me apologize to you I know you were just trying to help. I should not have done that. I am sorry"
Solution Epsilon looked more sternly at Herohero, "I am more upset that you blame yourself Lord Herohero. I know how you always had trouble with sleeping, please do not blame yourself."
Herohero felt pained, what else could he do? If he could not sleep there was nothing to complain about it was just how it was.
"Lord Herohero, please allow yourself to sleep."
Herohero chuckled, "I don't think it is up to me...what are you doing?"
Solution moved onto the bed and moved up until she was right next to Herohero.
"I am laying next to you to assure you all will be okay Lord Herohero," The created slime was blushing slightly which was visible even after she clapped her hands and the flames that lit the room went out.
"Solution, I appreciate it but I am not sure it is possible."
"If you will allow me my Lord, I won't leave until you do."
She was asking to stay until he could fall asleep rather than saying she just would not leave until he did. Herohero had to try at least, "I would allow it."
Herohero laid back down and slowly realized this all meant Solution was lying right beside him now. 'What was I thinking?! I don't think I did.'
Looking next to him there was Solution Epsilon, she was lying on her side smiling at her creator, her beloved Herohero.
Herohero felt guilty for some reason, "I should ask someone else to wait out there in case there is trouble or Momonga's situation worsens."
"I think that is why you cannot sleep," Solution proceeded closer so that they were practically touching, "You are worried too much about everyone else. You probably always worry about what will happen until you wake up."
It sounded accurate and it dawned on Herohero just how accurate it was. He had never thought of it but he was always worried about work, what his managers, bosses, and even fellow Co-workers would think if he ever messed up. He lost count of how often he slept at the office and on his desk just so he could avoid being late or because he worked too late to even make it to the station and get home. Without crashing physically during all of that.
Everything was always about work. And now when he cannot feel tired he has a different issue, he just worries about everything all at once.
"Just focus on me. Nothing else," Solution said this partially because getting Herohero to only think about her would maybe get him dreams just about her, maybe give him ideas for the real her.
'I wonder what those would be~' she thought to herself.
But she also did it because it could help Her supreme creator, her main goal.
"I. will try."
Herohero's void eyes and the glow behind them just focused on Solution and darkness.
slowly he felt it. fatigue followed by exhaustion. His worries while still present just disappeared for now and were a problem for when he woke up which now could be whenever he wanted.
He yawned, and she yawned! he said in a very slight voice, "Good night."
"good night and sleep well, I will be here beside you when you wake up," Solution's face was the last thing Herohero saw before he finally after so long fell asleep. He could finally rest.
From the desk of Herohero to Momonga
No words. Just sleep.
