Storybook Love (Every Version Of You)
Chapter 12-Visions And Dreams
Regina wakes up to Robin by her side and a shocking truth from her mother's past. And Emma...Emma attempts to fight Zelena. Emphasis on attempt.
Consciousness came to her slowly. It was like coming too after a sleeping potion. Easy and slowly as if it was a good dream that you were being dragged away from and you wanted to keep no matter what. She was dragged from consciousness slowly, lovely. Regina could not remember the last time that she had, had a good nights sleep such as this.
Now if only she could get rid of this annoying beeping sound. Bloody alarm clock giving her grief. She did not want to deal with it. She wanted to go back to sleep.
She moved her hand or at the very least she tried too. Tried to get it moving again anyway but she couldn't…she couldn't get her hand to move even as she tried to lift it. Something reached out and caught it, she felt warmth on her fingertips and then the soft harshness, the contradiction of stubble as her fingertips brushed a hard jaw. She felt lips on the back of her hand and she let herself fall off the edge of the cliff into the memory of sensuality.
She could remember that stubble against her skin, her neck, her chin, her belly, her breasts, on her legs…she felt like she could remember it even if she could not put a face to the man doing it.
And then she opened her eyes.
The room around her was white, it was whitewashed and it stank of antiseptic. She knew what this was, she knew that this was the scent of the hospital but what she could not remember was how she had gotten there.
She opened her eyes moaning at the terrible dryness of her mouth and then Regina noticed that someone was in the room with her and so she forced herself to look at the man next to her watching her eyes red rimmed.
For a second she stared at him and then…
It was Robin.
Robin Hood.
And a part of her for reasons she did not understand thought stupidly…oh…of course.
It was Robin Hood.
She coughed her throat dry and that was enough to wake up Robin gripping his crossbow that was lying at his feet. "Regina" he said hoarsely and when she nodded once he broke bringing up her hand to his face and then placing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "You scared the crap out of me" he said wiping the tears that had appeared under her eyes. "Sorry" she whispered back unsure of what to say.
Robin gave a small laugh helping her sit up and fetching a glass of water. Regina still did not know what to say, she knew what she felt, she just did not know what to say about it.
"What happened?" she asked finally. He pressed a glass against her lips and se drank deep letting the water soothe down her throat and putting to rest the fire of dryness—if you could call it that.
"You fainted" he said quietly. In his eyes there was a growing storm of emotions that she did not want to name or even consider so instead she looked down to see that her bump was still intact though she couldn't feel anything—
Before she could panic his hand was back on hers and his smile was gentle.
"The baby is fine, I had them check twice and then I had a very nice nurse who was one of the twelve dancing princesses in another life come in and explain to me how they knew that the baby was alright. Turns out they do this scan thing and they can see the baby. I didn't know what I was looking at but they printed off a picture for me to look at they pointed out where the baby was. There was a pause were he unfolded the picture and she stared at it, there it was tangible proof.
Wow.
She had never had this with Henry. Had never had this with anyone. Even when she had, held Henry in her arms the first time she had not really believed that he was hers until she had signed the paperwork and even then she had not been able to relax until she had magically made herself do it. Ten years she had gotten and then she'd lost him again.
But now as she pushed herself up as best she could Robin helping she stared down at the photo she realised in a way she had not realised before that this was real.
"You didn't ask what sex the baby was did you?"
Robin blinked.
"You can do that?"
Well that answered that question. "It's okay" she said seeing his face. "I can wait on knowing"
In truth she had wanted to know. So much of this pregnancy had been a surprise but she wanted to know what she could. Right now that was the one element of control that she had.
She sighed and then.
"So…Zelena"
"Emma intends to fight her"
"Oh I got a good picture of that" she said grinning and though she didn't feel like it. She might not consider Emma Swan a friend but right now she was so drastically out of her league that it didn't seem funny even to her. Emma had magic, had shunned how to use it and now was running headlong into a battle hoping her magic would present herself and defend against a woman who had—Regina betted—been doing this since she could walk.
There was a pause and then.
"She says she's my sister" she said looking up at the ceiling.
"I know"
"I…she could be" she said finally. "My parents did not have a good relationship, it was an open secret that both of them had lovers…I don't...Rumple was one of many for us both"
"You and the Dark—"
"No…not really but…" she trailed off turning to look at him taking in his rather disgruntled expression. "I need you to do something for me…if you can"
Robin paused.
"If I can do it I will" he said gently. "But I do not want to leave you alone—"
"You think she can harm me?"
"No I don't…I think you're you, as stunning as that is and therefore I know you can take care of yourself. I am worried about your stepmother and Emma and David…all three of them keep coming back here seeing if you are awake talking about demanding answers. I have shamed them into staying at bay but I do not know how long that will last"
Regina wondered just what Robin really meant when he said that he had shamed them but then again she decided that she didn't want to know. She really didn't…and again she was not used to being treated this way, not used to having someone look at her with that…dedication. Certainly she had not considered waking up with someone there by her side…that was beyond…everything really.
She closed her eyes and then opened them again.
"Don't worry" she said seeing the expression on his face. "I can handle them. But I need to know the truth and in order to get to that I need you go into my vault and fetch something for me"
God she hoped that she had taken the blood magic lock off. It would do no good for the most attractive man in Storybrooke to get killed by a fit of forgetfulness. Never mind Zelena or how she felt…Rumple would never let her forget it.
She was going through papers when the door opened. Robin made a hissing noise through his teeth which told Regina all that she needed to know about what was going on and who was at the door.
"Oh good your awake"
"Miss Swan. How did it go?"
"Not well."
"Didn't think it would. Sorry I missed it"
"Yes well—"
"And Henry is where?" she asked not bothering to look up. She heard the angry hiss and she resisted the urge to smile. Sometimes Emma was so like her father. It was always easy to wind up Daddy Charming. Had been even before he was a Daddy.
"With Hook"
"Hook?" she asked looking up and Emma grimaced. "Henry finds him cool" she said and Regina blinked.
"Course he does" she said shaking her head. "He wears black leather, has a hook for a hand and has that whole tortured thing down. You tell me what about that a teenager isn't going to like—I swear if you don't want it he will be asking how to apply eyeliner next"
Emma sighed wincing as she sat down. Regina shot her a look and then sighed.
"Go on" she said seeing the signs a mile away of a Charming that wanted to tell a tale. "How bad was it? Or better yet…how good was she?" better to get the facts now she thought before she came across her.
"Good. I mean…powerful, and I could feel this magic inside of me pushing to get out but I couldn't…I couldn't get that to move out of me you know?"
"Comes with practice"
Emma opened her mouth but Regina held up a hand to stop her. For a second she read the letter. She read the letter once and then she read it again and then…
"Give me the room"
"Why?"
"Emma get the fuck out"
"Why?"
"Because Zelena is my sister"
"I don't—"
"GO-NOW!"
Emma stared at her for a second as if she didn't want to say anything but then she jerked her head and then was gone. The second she shut the door Regina threw the entire box at it.
"Well" Robin said conversationally. "I know she can be a bit irritating and self serving but why did you—"
She thrust the letter at him and he took using one fingertip to flip the old letters open. Regina found that she could not look at it. In fact she stared at the wall and she found that while she was not a sentimental woman (never had Regina been accused of that) she didn't want to look at him when finally he got a look at her failure.
Pride was a thing and she knew that it was the one thing she could rely on.
"Cora dear, I finally got my hands on your first born. I never thought I'd find her, did you? Now I know why. she's the most powerful sorceress I've ever encountered, even more powerful than you. Stunning, in every way…"
There was a pause and then.
"Well…rather complimentary I would think"
"I've seen that letter a hundred times before, in my darkest moments I'd go to it for comfort. For solace, for a boost if I needed it. Because I always thought that it was about me"
Robin was silent.
"Oh" he said finally.
"Yes"
"Look…I know that the Dark One is a powerful man and all that but you've made your mark outside of him why let this bother you?"
"Because if the man that made me who I am today doesn't think I can defeat her what's the point?"
Robin opened his mouth and then closed it again.
"She wants something I just don't know what. She's took David's courage, God only knows what she wants with Rumple. I don't know what went down with her and Emma but I know it's not going to be good and I don't fancy my odds of a healthy birth if this woman is still around"
Robin nodded and she watched as there was a tick in his jaw.
"So what do you need?"
"I don't—"
"From me…what do you need?"
It was foolish to even take him at his word she knew but she could not walk away.
"I need…" Regina stopped trying to put it into words. She did not think that she could and yet at the same time she also knew that she could ask him. She knew what she felt…
Why not make it official?
"I need you" she said quietly.
Robin was by her side as if he had been waiting for her to say it.
"What do you need from me" he said and she watched as he took her hand and rested it over his heart before he bent and kissed it.
Good Lord.
"Everything" she said faintly.
And she was right.
God help her…
She needed everything.
And there you go, hope you enjoyed and see you next time.
Next Chapter-Regina decides to give her heart away (literally and emotionally) as the truth about Cora/Zelena/Eva comes tumbling out. And with the plan finally exposed two old enemies come to an impasse.
