AN: Enjoy!
Vision followed Wanda to The Side of Life's bathroom, at which point they realised that they were both completely clueless regarding how hair dye worked, considering that Vision, well, didn't have hair, and Wanda had really only been able to look after her hair at all since Vision had rescued her.
"Uh.. hand me the bottle" said Vision. "Surely there are some sort of instructions.."
"Okay.." Wanda did as he asked.
Vision began reading the instructions on the back of the bottle.
"Hmm.." He fussed around the bathroom for a few minutes, gathering a brush, comb, hair clips, and an old towel, which he handed to Wanda. He left the room for just a moment, returning with a chair. "It might be easier if you sit, this could take awhile, and maybe you should take off your jacket so we don't get dye on it. I'll just brush your hair and comb any knots out first, if that's okay.."
"Yes" Wanda sat, nodding, hanging her coat on the nearby towel rack. "That's okay.."
"Okay.."
Vision worked gently as he brushed Wanda's hair, carefully easing out any knots or tangles. He checked the instructions regularly, and consulted Wanda at each step he took. He told her exactly what he was doing and why, as he draped the old towel over her to keep the dye from getting anywhere it shouldn't, and parted and clipped her hair into sections to help make sure her whole head was evenly coated with the colour.
At every step, small or large, Vision sought Wanda's permission, until her hair was coated in the dye and the only step left was to wait until it was time to wash it out.
And Wanda.. well, the fact that Vision had ensured she had such complete control over what happened to her hair, or herself in general, only made Wanda more aware of how little control over her life and body she'd had before Vision had rescued her. Tears suddenly prickled at the corners of her eyes.
"Vision.. I.."
"What is it?" Vision immediately panicked. "Did I do something wrong?"
"N-No.." Wanda sniffled.
"Do you think it's the wrong colour? That's alright, it hasn't been in long, we can wash it out right now and try something else.. Or not, if you've changed your mind about dyeing it, you don't have to.."
"I know.. I want to dye my hair still, the colour's fine, I was just.. I.." She stood, and hugged him. "Thank you.."
"For dyeing your hair? You're welcome.."
"No.. well, yes, that too I suppose" Wanda chuckled softly, and Wanda's synthetic heart fluttered at the sound. "But mostly, I wanted to thank you for reminding me that my body is actually, you know.. Mine."
"You never should have been made to feel otherwise.." He gently hugged her back. "And if I have any say in the matter, you will never need to be reminded again."
"That sounds nice.."
They remained as they were for quite some time, simply holding each other, until Vision realised that it was probably time to wash out the dye.
"Do you need my help washing the dye out?" He asked, releasing her from his grip just as gently as he had been holding her.
"I think I can manage myself, but thank you" Wanda smiled softly. "I think I need a full shower anyway. Would you go check on the boys for me? They should still be sleeping, but.."
"Of course" Vision nodded, leaving the room, and double-checked that the door was shut properly behind him to ensure Wanda had the privacy she deserved.
Wanda blushed a little, before she undressed and got into the shower, a small smile on her face. Here, with Vision, she knew she was safe.
Vision headed off to check on the twins as Wanda had asked. Both were still mostly asleep, but Billy was noticeably fussing and whining a little. Tommy was squirming in his sleep, but settled after Vision ran a hand over his hair, and remained happily dozing. At the same gentle action, Billy stirred, his little eyes fluttering open, seeming relieved to see Vision.
"Vizzy.. Vizzy not hurt?"
"No, I am not hurt" Vision assured him, scooping him out of his cradle. "Why do you ask?"
"Bad dweam.." Billy murmured, curling tighter into him.
"Oh.." It hurt Vision's heart that at his tender age, Billy already knew enough of bad dreams to articulate what one was. "Well, that's okay. Everyone has bad dreams sometimes."
"Mama?"
"Yes, I imagine your Mother probably does have bad dreams.."
"Vizzy too?"
"Well, I work a little bit differently than you and Tommy and your Mother do" Vision chuckled, sitting down on the edge of Wanda's bed. "I do not sleep, at least not in the same way. But if I did, I think there are things I would have bad dreams about."
"Oh.." Billy yawned, but fought against sleep.
"It seems you are still tired, little one.."
"No" said Billy stubbornly, though the effect was ruined a little when he yawned again. "Not."
"I see" Vision smirked. "Well, perhaps we should just wait here quietly until your brother wakes up, then."
"'Kay.."
Vision sat quietly, and though he tried to resist, before too long, Billy drifted back to sleep.
A short while later, Wanda, with her hair dry so that Vision could properly see and give an opinion on it's new colour, entered the room, and her heart immediately melted.
Vision was still holding Billy tenderly to his chest as the little boy slept, and at some point, Tommy, a little jealous, had climbed out of his cradle to get some attention for himself, but had fallen back to sleep soon after reaching Vision's lap.
"Hey.." Wanda whispered, trying not to wake the boys.
"Hello.." Vision replied quietly, his breath catching a little when he looked up.
"What do you think?" Wanda playfully flipped her now fiery hair.
"You're beautiful.. I mean, um the colour is.. It suits you" Vision blushed.
"You think so?" Wanda blushed a little, moving to sit beside him.
"Yes.. it, uh, brings out your eyes."
Wanda smiled, kissing his cheek.
"Thank you.."
"You're welcome.." His cheek grew warm where Wanda had kissed it, and Vision's heart swelled.
They still had some work to do, to find a safe place to settle, but already, Vision was beginning to believe that as long as he was with Wanda and the twins, he was right where he belonged.
