AN: Enjoy!
Over the next few weeks, the little makeshift family aboard the Side of Life drifted around the Galaxy as they searched for a more permanent place to call home. They stopped occasionally to pick up supplies or refuel the ship, but never stayed in one place for long, for fear that the Ravagers or anyone else hunting down Wanda and twins would catch up with them.
This fear contributed to the struggle of finding the right place to settle. Vision wanted the very best for Wanda and their.. Her children. Somewhere that they would be safe, for Wanda to have everything she had missed out on for so long, somewhere Tommy and Billy could grow, and play, somewhere they were free to just be children.
While it wasn't perfect, or a long term solution, for now, The Side of Life was that safe place. Wanda and the twins had beds, food, clothes, and access to a bathroom, extra necessary now they had begun the process of Potty Training the boys. All the simple comforts that had been denied to them for much too long. They were happy on the ship, or at least Vision hoped they were. They seemed to be, as far as he could tell.
Vision was lucky enough to witness Tommy and Billy's joy as they played, to hear their contagious laughter. To see Wanda's wonderful smile when the twins pulled her into a game. Sometimes, in fact quite often now, they would ask Vision to play as well, in the sweetest little voices he had ever heard.
"Vizzy! Vizzy, play!"
If he wasn't busy with odd jobs around the ship (or even if he was busy, but whatever he was doing wasn't particularly urgent) he would happily oblige. He would get drawn into the games, which sometimes seemed a little nonsensical to his synthetic, highly logical brain, but as long as it made the boys smile and giggle, he would do whatever they wanted, even if he did not entirely understand.
Sometimes, when Vision played with the twins, he would catch Wanda looking at him with an expression he couldn't quite decipher, but the softness in her eyes told him that whatever she was thinking, it was something positive. So, he would smile at her, and she would smile back, unaware of how that smile never failed to make Vision's synthetic heart do backflips.
Vision was very new to matters of the heart. Wanda was too, but at least her heart was a real organ beating in her chest. His heart and brain were both synthetic, all of him was synthetic, so for a while, he had been unsure how love worked for him, or if he even really could. But the way his heart seemed to soar when she smiled at him, how happy he was when she even just walked into a room.. he was quickly becoming quite certain that he loved Wanda.
He hadn't told her this, of course. While they both acknowledged that there was something special between them, while they worked out exactly what that was, they had agreed to take things slow.. Or more accurately, in Vision's eyes, whatever pace Wanda was comfortable with. She'd had so little control in her life for so long that he wanted to make sure she knew that she was entirely in control now.
That, and the fact that he had absolutely no idea what he was doing anyway, so he was happy to let Wanda take the lead.
Wanda and Vision had shared quite a few more kisses now, all initiated by her, of course. It had started with quick pecks on the cheek as she passed by him on her way to tend to the twins, sweet kisses goodnight before she went to sleep, but as she grew more confident, more comfortable, her kisses lingered a little longer, grew a bit more passionate, and so Vision would kiss her back in the same way. She would smile, a wonderful, sweet, shy little smile, and Vision would become even more certain that he was in love.
One evening, Vision had been rather occupied sitting in the cockpit studying star charts for any more quiet, out of the way planets when Wanda came in after putting the twins to bed. Vision was so deeply focused on his task, so eager to find that perfect place they could all call home, that he didn't notice her at first.
Wanda watched him for a while, a fond smile creeping over her face. She'd been coming in to talk to him about something, but had entirely forgotten what it was. Without thinking about it, she walked over, sat in his lap, and kissed him. When she pulled away, Vision was staring at her, rather dumbstruck.
"I'm sorry.." Wanda blushed, slightly panicked, and moved to get up. "Maybe I shouldn't have done that.."
"No, it's okay" Vision gently grasped her hand to keep her from leaving. "That was just unexpected, that's all. I didn't see you come in. But it's okay.. it was.. nice. You should stay. Or you can if you want. If you'd rather not, I completely.. I would never make you stay if you were not, um.."
"I know.." Wanda smiled, shaking her head at his rather adorable rambling, and settled herself back in his lap, kissing him again.
Vision, not taken so off guard this time, kissed her back. They continued kissing, gentle, slow, lazy kisses, for quite some time, with only brief pauses for Wanda to take a breath before the kissing resumed. Exactly how long this went on, Vision wasn't entirely sure. At some point, his arms had wrapped around her, pulling her just a little closer to him. She was wonderful and soft and warm, tasting of something sweet that he couldn't quite identify due to his inability to eat, but whatever it was had immediately become his favourite flavour. Vision would be completely happy if they never went any further than this.
How could anyone ever ask for anything more? Because this, kissing Wanda, holding her, it was wonderful, magical, perfect, she was..
"Perfect.." He murmured, breathless despite not needing to breathe, the next time Wanda pulled away to take a breath herself.
"What?" She asked softly.
"You" Vision replied. "You're perfect."
"I'm not" Wanda blushed, her hand running over the back of his head, "But thank you for saying so. Oh.. I've just remembered what I came in here for."
"What?"
Anything. He would give her anything she wanted.
"I think you should start taking a few Bounty Hunting jobs again.."
Anything but that. That was ridiculous.
"Why would I do that?" Vision frowned.
"I notice you still keep an eye on the jobs coming up.."
"That's only so I can keep track of the bounty on you and the boys in case it rises. Wanda, the reason I've kept away from my old world so completely is to keep you all safe."
"I know.." Wanda glanced downwards, "I just.. I worry."
"About what?" He softened at her concerned expression.
"I know you say you have plenty of money, but with the twins and I on board, you're stopping to restock on food more often than you've ever had to before, and you're always buying them toys, or bringing extra little treats for me.." She blushed a little. "I appreciate it all, I do, but it is going to start eating into your savings eventually, especially if you don't have any regular income.."
"Wanda.." Vision tried, but wasn't sure how to finish the sentence.
What she didn't know was that his income had never just come from his bounties. He also received a very generous allowance from his creator. The monthly deposits came with a message that he was always welcome to visit. He hadn't yet, because he wanted to make something of himself first, something to be proud of.. Which was part of why he hadn't mentioned his allowance to Wanda. She would probably want to see where Vision had come from, but he simply was not ready to go back.
"I know what you're going to say.. That you have it all under control" Wanda sighed. "But I still worry.. Just think about it, okay?"
"I.. I suppose I could look into it" Vision relented.
"Sounds perfect" Wanda stood up, kissing the top of his head. "I'm gonna go get myself something to eat, okay?"
"Okay.."
After Wanda had exited the cockpit, Vision reluctantly waved his star chart aside and instead brought up a list of active Bounties. If he was going to consider this at all, he wouldn't be going for anything huge. He'd be sticking to the lower tier rewards that no-one else was bothering with yet.
After a bit of scrolling, he settled on a listing under the unfortunate name of Ralph Bohner. According to the listing, Bohner was just a wannabe Hunter in search of advice, and willing to pay for it, before setting out after his first bounty.
Vision paused, thinking. That could actually work. He'd give the young fellow some tips, get paid, and send him off on his way. Wanda might relax for a while.
What could possibly go wrong?
