The next night, the doctor and some other men were down there with Vick to make sure that Brooklyn cooperated. He was forced onto his back on the mattress by the men, with the threat of being darted there constantly by the guards.

"Now, just hold still, Brooklyn." The doctor instructed. "This won't hurt a bit."

The doc put some gel on Brooklyn's stomach and the wand and rolled it around on his belly. Brook was still grossed out by the slime on his skin. This time, the screen was shown to the gargoyle. Brooklyn couldn't believe he was seeing what he was.

He was seeing the heads, hands, feet, wings, tail, spine, and the hearts all beating and how big they were. Brooklyn's eyes widened at seeing all this. The hearts were also played for him.

"That's very fast." Brooklyn said.

"I think it's normal." The doc stated. "These are only the first time I'm seeing baby gargoyles."

"But, aren't they in eggs at all? My kind usually are hatched from eggs." Brooklyn declared.

"Really?" The doc had another look and said, "Nope. There doesn't look to be any egg development. These are going to be live births."

This would be a first for his kind. Not hatching from an egg. He would end up being a father sooner than he realized. But then, he realized what he had just thought to himself. He would be a father!

But Brooklyn still didn't feel completely ready for fatherhood yet. He felt like he was too young to be doing this. He didn't even have a mate yet. His kids would need a mother to help him along too.

"How long are your kind pregnant for?" The doc asked.

"Huh? Uh, six months." Brooklyn couldn't help but reply.

"Those fetuses don't look like they're ready to be born anytime soon. Maybe they're born after six months being protected by an eggshell typically, Brooklyn. But with live births, they are carried a lot longer. And if my thinking is correct, the babies might be carried for the equivalent of near a human baby if not longer due to all the extra faster development." The doc explained.

All of this was really scaring Brooklyn. His belly wasn't that swollen, but it was showing it was big enough with this pair of twins inside him. If he was pregnant for that long, it would be next spring before he had them, but he still knew it would have to be open belly surgery to get them out. And even if he did make it home, he wouldn't be able to leave the castle. Right now, though, Brooklyn would have traded anything to go home. He now knew why he had been taken away from his home.

The red male felt so alone. And he was. "But what would you guys do with the babies?" He asked nervously.

"Irene will get one as she wanted. We might keep the other."

"No." Brooklyn said sadly.

"I'm afraid you don't have a choice what we do with the babies. You are just going to be giving them to us." Vick sneered.

"Oh, and maybe while Brooklyn is down, now might be a good chance to get some fluid from those sacs to identify if there are any defects in the babies." The doc suggested.

Brooklyn didn't know what he was talking about. He began to try to squirm to be let up, but the men held him down. "What are you going to do?" he asked nervously.

"Using the ultrasound, we get to poke some needles into your belly and collect some fluid surrounding the fetuses." Vick answered smugly.

"NOOO!" Brooklyn shouted out and that made him struggle more. "LET GO OF ME!"

"I don't think so!" Vick retorted and he took out a sedative needle and jabbed it into Brook's left bicep. He yelped and was soon still. But he was awake. He just couldn't move any longer. "Now we don't have to worry about you moving for the procedure. Go on, Doc."

Brooklyn felt a chill go through his belly as he watched what the men were going to do to him. His breathing was the only thing he was allowed to do.

The doc swabbed his lower belly and putting a sheet over him, exposing a small part of skin, and with the wand still out, he put it back on him to find the spots. Vick held the wand in place. The doc then used a six-inch needle and poked it down onto Brook's belly, making him wince. The needle made it down to the first fetus and then a syringe was used to collect some fluid. Two vials of it. Then the same was done to the second fetus.

When they were done with him, his belly was wiped off, and Vick gave Brooklyn's belly a good rubbing. "Such a fine belly you have to carry two small babies in it." Vick complimented.

Brooklyn had always been called too skinny or scrawny of his body shape before. Now he was bigger just because he was actually pregnant. He was also concerned about how his clan would take the news of him expecting if they ever found him.

But he was sure the clan would accept two new members in the clan. They would just be in shock at how they were going to obtain these two new members.

The men released Brooklyn to rest on the mattress and to come out of the drug. After this, Brook wouldn't let the men near him again without a fight after what they had just done to him. When feeling returned to his body and he was able to get up again, he rubbed the sore spots on his stomach. His loincloth was starting to go under his belly at this point. He loosened his belt a little bit.

He eventually got up and tried to get the chain off the pillar that he was chained to. But the chain was so heavily set into the wall, and he couldn't get the cuff off his ankle. He was stuck here for the time being. He paced for a while.

But it wasn't too long after that one of the men came back in with a tray of food. "Just bringing your food and pills that you have to keep taking." The man said gently.

"Why should I take the pills?" Brook demanded angrily.

"Because they're prenatal pills. Vitamins actually. They're to help give you additional vitamins for the babies." The man explained.

"And what, you're not going to give me something else to keep my male hormones in check too?" Brook scoffed.

"That was already dealt with. You have hormones inside you right now maintaining the pregnancy without needing to give you anything extra, save the vitamins." The man declared. "Enjoy. Eat up." He then left him alone. He left the tray within reaching distance.

Brooklyn was still skeptical. He didn't feel like he wanted to eat but he was starting to feel a craving coming on. The scent of the food was good. There were some roast beef sandwiches, some fries, some peanut butter crackers, and a cookie there for him, plus water.

He sighed and went and got the tray. He took it back to the mattress to enjoy his meal. "I hope you two enjoy this and not make me sick." Brook told the babies inside him. He might as well start talking to them if they were going to be part of him. He then proceeded to eat the food that was offered to him.

Brooklyn rubbed his swollen belly when he finished, shoving the tray away from him. He sat back against the wall.

Before too long, the same man came down with something else in his hands. "Here, Red. Boss Vick wants to give you this so you can have something to do besides mope down here." The man said and tossed a book at the red gargoyle, who caught it, trying to protect his face.

"Why would I want to read something he recommends?" Brooklyn retorted.

"Look at it. You might want to regarding your condition and all." The man replied, taking the tray with him.

Brooklyn glared at him then looked at the book. His eyes softened at seeing it was a pregnancy book. It was on human pregnancy, but it surely couldn't be that different for him. "Well, it's one way for me to relieve my boredom." He figured.

He opened up the book and began to read. He normally wouldn't read something like this, but he needed to start learning of his condition. He read it until it was time for his next meal before sunrise. Vick was going to be strict on making Brooklyn eat the food he was served.

….

Brooklyn hated being stuck in this basement that he found out he was in. It was sealed off from the real world and his lack of solar energy in the daytime was getting to him. The twins drained his energy nightly. The meals gave him some more energy, but his stone sleep gave him more when he slept outside, and Vick wasn't allowing him to do that.

For the next two weeks, Brooklyn read the book he had been given. A small tv was brought down for him too. He would also eye the key to the cuff on his ankle on the wall clear across the room. He wanted that key desperately.

One night, Brooklyn was just watching tv when he felt something bump him from the inside. It made him flinch. He had been starting to feel some weird sensations, like butterflies in his stomach lately. This time, it felt more like a real bump inside him. He looked down and saw a lump appear at his skin.

He had gotten to the part of his cycle of pregnancy. He was feeling the kicking! Up until this point, he had felt uncertain about this pregnancy, but feeling the kicking just then made him feel a small part of something… different. He put his right hand over his belly where he felt the kick. It made him smile for a change.

Vick came down to see him shortly afterwards. Brooklyn dropped his smile and covered his belly with his wing. "What do you want?" he demanded.

"I have some news for you, Brooklyn." Vick declared.

"What could you have to tell me that hasn't ruined my life already?!" he snapped.

"There are concerns about one of your twins." Vick replied. "We need a look at them both. Another exam."

"They're fine." Brooklyn retorted. "You are not touching me again!" He pushed himself up.

"Brooklyn, you need to take this seriously when we tell you something like this. One might die in your belly if we don't take a look at it." Vick explained.

The red male didn't want to hear something like this, but perhaps he would let it slide. "Fine! But no needles this time!" He relented.

"Good." Vick said.

Another ultrasound was carried out even though Brooklyn was more wary than ever. The doc was now looking at the fetus on the right side of his belly when he said, "There, there seems to be an issue with this one's heart." The doc pointed out. It got Brook's attention too.

"You better not be feeding me a load of bull." Brook growled.

"No, really. Here, listen." The doc stated. He played one heartbeat and then the other. The one on the left sounded normal, but the other one sounded off.

"What's going on?" Brooklyn asked in concern.

"There is a bit of a murmur on that one. It also looks a little smaller than the other one too." The doc replied.

"But will it be alright?" Vick asked.

"I might be able to help it out when it's born, but for right now, I can't do much for it." The doc said. "I'm sorry."

"You mean, it could die?!" Brooklyn exclaimed.

"It's possible. But it looks like the baby might have an abnormal valve in its heart. It might be fine during the pregnancy, but it'll likely need surgery shortly after its birth." The doc explained.

"Please, don't let it die." Brooklyn pleaded with tears in his eyes.

"We can only wait until the birth." The doc said. "It sounds okay for now. I have encountered this before with a few babies over the years, but human, of course."

"Did they live?" Brooklyn asked in concern.

"Yes. All it took was a surgery and it took care of the issue." Doc replied.

"It's nothing I'm doing?"

"No. We're making sure you're getting the best, nutritious food and vitamins now, like Irene was. Things like this just happen sometimes." Doc said.

Brooklyn was deeply concerned. He might have had a sick baby inside him. After feeling some movements from them, he knew he was no longer alone, but he had to be the one that was strong and the parent for them both.

The men didn't do a lot of interactions with Brooklyn other than exams, food and drinks, and giving him books to read.

Brooklyn's wings felt like they wanted to go gliding so bad. He would flap them and spread them out if they got too cramped but there was nothing he could do about getting around and moving. The chain didn't grant him much moving around space.

He had tried again and again to get the cuff off his ankle or the chain out of the wall. He had to get out of here. Now he had a more important concern, that he was carrying a sick fetus. He hoped it wouldn't die inside him.

I wanted something different for one of the babies this time. Wanted to give Brooklyn a challenge of a baby with a heart defect, but docs fix this sort of thing nowadays. It was inspired by a Lifetime movie I saw.
