Bella's choice to rescue

Since this version happens sooner than the first one, Bella doesn't know about the reservation and the shapeshifters yet, though she suspected because of the story Jacob told her. (Because when you're told a story and you have proof that one part of it is true, then it's safe to assume that the other side of it is true as well)

Bella was preparing the fishes her father had brought back from his fishing trip with Harry and Billy and wondered if she should tell him about all of this. She knew that he would be strong enough to handle the supernatural world but should she tell him anything?

"Something wrong Bells? You're more quiet than usual. Is your leg still hurting?" Charlie asked her, breaking her out of her thoughts.

She looked up at him and saw that he truly looked concerned. He was worried for her, his father instinct told him that something was wrong and he thought it was her leg hurting after the cast had been taken off that morning... She couldn't help but think that her mother wouldn't have noticed, wouldn't have cared.

"Just thinking dad..." Bella replied, trying her best to wave his worries off.

"Troubles with the Cullen's?" he asked her.

"No, not at all. What makes you think that?" She asked her father.

She knew that he didn't like Edward much and hoped that they never started dating.

"Well, either Edward or Alice are usually around about this time, even if you saw them during the day." Charlie replied, shrugging his shoulders.

"Oh... Well, I saw them this morning but then they went to spend some time as a family, hiking I think." She replied.

Of course, "hiking" was code for "hunting" but he didn't need to know that.

"What did you do then?" He asked her.

"I stayed home. Cleaned a little, did some homework... The usual, really." She vaguely replied.

After a few more minutes of inner debate, Bella decided to ask her father something. Depending on his answer and her nerves, she would tell him everything or not.

"Ch.. Dad, I was wondering... Do you believe in the supernatural?" She asked him seriously.

She watched as he put down his beer, a thinking look on his face. At least he wasn't laughing at her for even asking such a question. Her mother would have mocked her.

"I guess so... Maybe... I'm not opposed to it existing, and with what I've seen over the years... I guess I kind of have to believe to an extend... You wouldn't believe the things that can happen on full moons around here. Why are you asking?"

"I... I was just remembering something that happened to me in Phoenix when I was a little girl..." She replied, waving it off.

She didn't have the nerves to tell him everything, she didn't want him to make fun of her.

"What happened?" he asked her seriously, obviously interested in her tale.

She could tell that he was happy to speak openly with her and that he truly was interested. She immediately felt guilty about keeping so much from him and she decided to be honest. Maybe she needed to be more open with him, to trust him a little... She hadn't been really fair to him so far, it was time for things to change.

"I... When I was a little over 6, mom and I went to the market and while mom bought some tomatoes, an old woman got knocked over by a teenager. Her groceries were all over the place and everybody was ignoring her so I went to help her pick everything up and standing back up."

"That was very nice of you Bella. I knew you were a good kid." Charlie interrupted her proudly.

"Thanks... Anyway, she said that she wanted to thank me and she took my hands in hers and looked into my eyes... She told me something about the supernatural world existing and about my one true love being part of that supernatural world. She told me that even if there were other potential loves in my life, nothing would compare to the one HE would give me. That I would be perfectly happy with him..." Bella explained, remembering everything in her head.

"You don't think this is Edward, do you?" Charlie asked her with a frown, afraid that she was about to tell him that she was dating the boy.

"That's the thing... She told me that I would dream about my soul mate every night from that day and I have... Ever since that day, every night, I dream of this young man named Kol who's a member of the original family of vampires... I saw his entire life... I know that you're going to say that it might just be my imagination but... Some of the things I saw, I checked it and it fits the history... Things that I couldn't have possibly known otherwise... Like, a painting in a special place. It's a detail really but his brother made a painting that's hung up in a french castle and I checked online, it's exactly the same as in my dreams..." Bella told her father honestly, deciding not to hide anything from him anymore.

Her face was as open as possible, she wanted to show her father that she was honest, sincere.

Her father's face was unreadable. She didn't know if he was about to call a psychiatrist or tell her that he believed her. Maybe he would call an exorcist too. By the look on his face, there was no way of knowing what he would do.

"I... You're sure this was real?" he asked her in a wavy voice.

"I know it's a lot dad, but yes, I do." Bella said as she took the chair in front of him and sat down.

"Why haven't you told anyone before?" He asked her, looking back into her eyes.

"I don't know... I didn't want to tell mom because I knew that she would have made a big deal out of it and maybe even made fun of me forever with this... I didn't think you would believe me... Do You?" She asked him, uncertainty of her eyes.

"I do Bella. You're my daughter and I love you. I also know you. I know that you wouldn't believe it unless you had reasons to. So Bella, if you decided to tell me now, there must be a reason." He told her.

"I... I don't know what to do dad... Should I stay here, and wait for something that might not come because Kol can't come to me or go after him, try to rescue him by myself?"

"You're not even 18 yet Bella, you should give this Kol some time..." Charlie advised her, already happier to have another option besides Edward Cullen.

Not that he had anything reasonable against Edward Cullen, he liked the boy just fine as a friend of his daughter, he just didn't want him dating her, for some reason.

"That's the thing, he can't come to me right now and I'm not sure he'll be able to come, ever, unless I come to him..."

"Why?"

"Their sort of vampires, the ones from his family... They can't be killed because they burnt the one tree that could kill them but ashes from this tree on a special silver dagger planted into their hearts can put them in some sort of sleep state as long as the dagger stays in place... I dreamt that Kol has been daggered a little under 100 years ago, in the early 20's, in a family argument. One of his brothers, who's half vampire and half werewolf and can't be killed, the one who made the painting I told you about earlier, is keeping him close and it would be impossible to get to it and undagger him... I know it sounds crazy dad but I swear..."

"I believe you honey." Charlie said, interrupting her.

He took her hands in his own to calm her down and said:

"Now, why don't you tell me everything so that I know as much as you do about this entire situation. Then we'll be able to truly discuss your options."

After a deep breath of relief, Bella started to explain everything to her father. Everything she had seen in her dreams, everything she had found on the internet or in the news that convinced her that it was all real... She told her father the details of every supernatural creatures Kol encountered over the centuries, their strengths and their weaknesses...

When she arrived to her coming to Forks, she told him that it was then that she saw Kol being daggered, right before she met the Cullen family and became friend with Alice and Edward.

"And now I still dream of Kol, but much less often and it's mainly a mash-up of what I already know... Nothing new..." She finished.

It was a lot to take for Charlie but he seemed to be taking it well.

"I see... Now, be honest with me, are the Cullen's supernatural?" Charlie asked her and they knew that by "Cullen's" he meant Edward.

Charlie had a good instinct and he could tell that the boy had feelings for his daughter.

Deciding that she couldn't hide anything else from her father anymore, Bella decided to keep on being honest with him.

"Yes, Edward and his family are Cold Ones, like the ones from Billy's stories... They don't hurt people though, they only drink animal blood, which is why their eyes aren't red." She replied.

"I always knew that there was something fishy about this Edward... I can't believe that he sparkles in the sun." Charlie chuckled, making Bella smile and blush as she looked up at her father.

"I know that he loves me, Edward I mean. He told me so. He understands that I'm not interested, I told him that I was spoken for, even though I didn't tell him the rest. I'm sure that if I had never dreamt of Kol, I would have fallen for him though, it would have been easy but the prospect of true love, having a soul mate... What would you do, dad?"

"Honestly?" he asked for confirmation.

"I promise that I won't get mad or laugh, no matter what you say." She nodded.

"Now, it has nothing to do with me not liking Edward or anything, but if I was in your place, with the possibility of a soul mate to come, I would wait... That's what I would do, that's what I'm doing actually..."

"You are?" She asked him.

"Yes, I am... It's not like I know if she exists or not but I'm still waiting to meet the woman of my dreams. I will support you no matter what you do Bella. If you decide that you want to go after Kol, go look for him, then I promise you that, as soon as you're out of school, we'll use my 3 weeks of vacation to take the road and look for this Kol... We'll look for his wolf brother and we'll take lots of vervain and wolfsbane if we have to. I swear I'll help you in any way I can in this quest." he promised.

"Are you sure?" She asked, not quite believing what she heard her father say.

She was amazed at how lucky she was. Not only her father believed her but he was willing to go with her to rescue Kol. It made her want to give him the biggest hug in the history of hugs. She should have given her father more credit. She should have given him a bigger chance to be a bigger part of her life. Obviously he was willing to storm the wolf's den just to spend some quality time with her.

"Now, you're not really having feelings for Edward, are you?" he asked her.

"No, not really. I mean I care about him, as a friend, but I'm not in love with him." She reassured him.

"Alright. Now, do I know everything?" He asked her.

"Hum... Well, remember the story of what happened to me in Phoenix?" She asked him.

She figured he should know what happened in Phoenix with James and Victoria. Of course her father nodded and so Bella told her father how she met James, Laurent and Victoria during a game of baseball, how James had tried to drink her blood and the Cullen's stepped up to protect her, since they had been the ones to put her in danger. She told her father how James made her think that he had her mother and how he had tortured her, thinking that Edward, who had protected her the most, was her mate.

She also apologized for making him think that she had wanted to leave him, to run away from him. she made sure he knew that her only goal at the time was to keep him safe, to protect him.

"What's funny is that even though I knew that Edward and his family were the ones looking for me, I called out Kol's name when James was torturing me... Anyway, he's dead now. Emmett and Jasper destroyed him, pulled him appart and burned him down. Before they arrived James had bitten me, Carlisle was trying to stop the bleeding in my leg so Edward sucked the venom out to make sure I didn't change." Bella explained.

"What about the other two?" Charlie asked her.

"Laurent went up in Denali, to meet some distant family members of the Cullen's. Alice told me that he found love and was even trying to adjust to the animal blood diet, which isn't very easy when you're used to the human one. I don't know about Victoria. I overheard Jasper and Emmett whisper about her though, so I think they're still looking for her." Bella told him.

"Maybe I need to start looking for a flame thrower or something... Anyway, if this Victoria is after you for revenge, which seems to be their style according to what you told me and what I remember from Billy's stories, then we should try and look for your Kol as soon as possible. He'll be able to protect you." Charlie told his daughter.

Bella was truly grateful that she was able to speak so openly to her father. He had reacted much differently that she thought he would and she finally felt like she had with him the kind of relationship she once had with her mother. No, this was even better than the one she used to have with her mother because Renée would have made fun of her, she wouldn't have believed her. Not only Charlie believed her but he was also willing to help her.

When she went to bed that night, Bella prayed that she'd dream of some sort of clue about her love's location.

.DREAM.

Bella appeared in a place she had never seen before and one look around told her that it didn't belong to any of the Mickealson's. She knew them all enough by now to know their tastes in matter of living space and decorations. If one of them was to stay in such a place, then they were in very big trouble. And they would have at least dusted everything.

The house seemed abandoned and yet a young man, dressed modernly, that she had never seen before, was carrying coffins.

THE coffins.

The four coffins where Klaus kept his siblings and the one with his mother.

Kol's coffin was right there, in front of her, next to the others.

She knew that this was a dream, still, she went over to Kol's coffin and tried to touch it. Of course she couldn't, her hand went right through it, but she had to try. After that, she looked everywhere around her for a clue as to where they were.

The unknown young man was carrying them on his own, sign that he was probably a vampire too and she heard him speak to people she didn't see.

"Thank you for helping me hide them." He spoke to the room.

He wasn't on the phone with anyone and Bella couldn't see anyone else in the room, but then, the torches light high and, suddenly, she couldn't see the coffins anymore.

Witches.

Spirits of dead witches were probably helping him keep them hidden.

Where was he? How could she find Kol if she didn't have more information? Suddenly, the coffin thief took his phone out and Bella walked closer. He dialed a number labeled "Klaus" but she couldn't see the phone number. Too bad, if she had, then she might have been able to call her love's brother to warn him.

"Hello Klaus, missing a few coffins, aren't you?" The thief taunted as soon as Klaus answered.

"Stefan, what did you do to them?" Klaus asked, anger obvious in his voice.

"That's for me to know. Just know that they're safe for now but that as soon as you do something that displeases me, I'll drop them at the bottom of the deepest ocean, or maybe even in a burning volcano. Why don't you start by getting all of your hybrids out of town? I'd like Mystic Fall's to turn back into a hybrid free zone. Tyler is free to stay, since this is his home town too, but all the others have to go." The man Klaus had called Stefan declared, his voice confident.

"If you do anything to my family Stefan, you'll regret it, I swear it!"

Bella was sure that he'd be able to hold his promise too, she knew what Klaus was capable of and this time, she agreed with him.

"So, I've counted them, Rebekah, Elijah, and I'm guessing the other two are Finn and Kol, but I wonder, who is inside the coffin that won't open?" Stefan asked.

"Someone very dangerous that wants to rid the earth of every vampire that has ever existed, the good and the bad, and that someone won't hesitate to sacrifice anyone necessary in order to achieve it. Innocent or not, let it be 1 or a thousand sacrifices needed." Klaus replied.

Of course he was exaggerating, his mother might be a bad person, but she wouldn't go that far, though Bella understood the reason behind the lie. She would have done the same thing.

"Get your hybrids out of town Klaus, maybe even out of the state, out of Virginia all together. I'll call you back in a few weeks."

The man hung up and Bella knew that Klaus would be very angry, but maybe this was a sign that he'd be willing to work with her and her father to get the coffins back. Feeling the familiar sensation informing her that the dream would soon end, Bella rushed to the closest window and through the dirt, she could see trees, lots of trees.

.

Bella woke up in her bedroom with a frown on her face. She didn't even think twice, she rushed out of the room and joined her father who was drinking his morning coffee while reading the daily newspaper.

"Well, someone is in a hurry to go to school this morning but Bells, you have to get dressed before going to school, even when the year is almost over." Charlie said, obviously in a good mood.

"I dreamt of him again Dad. A new dream. Someone named Stefan stole the coffins from Klaus, he had them hidden in a house with dead witches' spirits, but I know where they are! In Virginia, a town called Mystic Fall's!" Bella explained in a rushed voice, a bright smile on her face.

"That's great Bells! I'll start looking into it today. I'll plan everything so that we can head over there as soon as you're out of school." Charlie replied.

"Thanks dad! I'm going to get dressed. I think I'll go and speak with the Cullen's before I come back home after school. They should know the truth, I trust them after all and we're friends." Bella replied.

"Why after school?"

"It's a sunny day." Bella stated, pointing outside.

"Oh, right. Can't sparkle in public if you're not a fairy!" Charlie replied with humor as Bella rushed back up stairs, never falling down once and ignoring her father's humor.

Bella was happier than she had ever been because, even though Kol was prisoner, twice over, once in the coffin and once in the witch house, she could feel that she'd be with him soon. She'd be in his arms before the summer ended.

She wanted to explain everything to the Cullen's, because they deserved to know but also because she wanted to know if they knew anything about resisting magic. She knew of a few herbs that could help her, a few things she'd need to pack with her to make sure the witches wouldn't be able to affect her in that house, she had spent enough time watching Kol mentor witches to know a few things about magic herself, but she'd need their help to get them because she didn't know where to start and she didn't have much time to prepare.

Maybe they'd even know where to find weapons...
