An accidental brush of lips followed by a pause and going back for another, on purpose.

Machines, machines around them for miles and miles, as far as their eyes could see and beyond.

It was just her and Number 16 now.

All their comrades gone, either dead or who remained went ahead under their pleas.

Only the Gunner decided to remain behind with her.

A sacrifice.

That was all they were.

The horde of machines was just too big, even more for just the two of them, as they danced with death each time a laser came close to either of their bodies.

But it had been their choice.

So the others may still have a chance to live.

But they wouldn't go down without a fight, it wasn't their style.

An explosion went off from behind Dahlia, the shockwave sending her flying into her companion as they both fell on the ground.

From the searing pain in her leg, she already knew that it was busted.

And the horde advanced towards them.

Number 16 understood just as much as she did. The end was near.

And if it was…

Dahlia didn't want to die with any regrets, so…

Her lips brushed against the Gunner's ones for a moment, she put her hands at the sides of her face, as they stared into each other's eyes.

This time there was just tenderness, and sadness.

No more fights, no more anger.

And soon enough, nothing more at all…

"So… this is it…" the words left her mouth in a whisper, but Number 16 heard them loud and clear.

The Gunner reached out for Dahlia's face too, as they pulled each other in for another kiss.

If this was the end…

Then so be it…
