From the moment I left the disturbing cave, and with all those horrible experiences, I felt a great weight lift off my shoulders, but the work was not yet finished. I had to know if Dr. Cullen would agree to such an experiment.
The best thing about leaving that place was that I finally had access to the internet, and the response didn't take long to arrive:
"Dear Gonzalo,
First of all, allow me to express my sincere gratitude for taking the initiative to contact me. I trust that your journey is progressing favorably and without setbacks.
I have had the honor of carefully examining the documents you have entrusted to me, and I must confess that I have been deeply impressed. From my medical perspective, I consider that what you have in your hands has the potential not only to alter the course of our own species but also promises to be of invaluable benefit to humanity. Furthermore, I fully share your concern regarding the latent danger in certain experiments mentioned in said documents; it is imperative that they be eliminated as soon as possible.
I would also like to inform you that I have conducted my own investigations, arriving at conclusions similar to yours. The magnitude of your discoveries in such a complex field has undoubtedly left me amazed.
In conclusion, I wish to inform you that, after extensive deliberation with my family, we have agreed to the convenience of a visit from you to our home. My esteemed daughter Alice will contact you shortly to provide the relevant details and necessary instructions. Please excuse any previous delays; I trust you will understand the inherent complexity of hosting vampires who are not previously known to us.
With the highest esteem,
Dr. Carlisle Cullen."
I was truly happy and it gave me hope to continue, although I was somewhat puzzled by the mention of "instructions from Alice."
I checked the email and realized:
"It's been over a month already! Was I in that cave for so long?!"
Furthermore, I was discouraged by the fact that I didn't receive any message from Dr. Cullen's daughter, named Alice. In fact, the message at that part seemed quite cryptic.
I looked towards the horizon of the desert and thought:
"Now what do I do? Do I just wander around until they arrive?"
I realized I couldn't waste any more time, so I decided to head west. I was already developing a kind of plan B until they at least decided to contact me.
My idea was basically to travel to some Israeli laboratory where I could infiltrate and continue gathering information about Dr. Cullen's coven and its surroundings. One never knows when things could go wrong, so I needed some kind of leverage or escape route in that place.
Additionally, I also needed to prepare to have some plan regarding the Volturi, perhaps some compromising information or a weakness I could exploit.
I managed to reach an abandoned town, settled into a house, and once again began to meditate. I found a couple of nearby antennas that allowed me to jump once again onto the network.
The Cullens lived near a town called Forks, in the United States. They were vegetarian vampires who lived immersed within human society.
"How dangerous..." I murmured.
To blend in among humans, they used their immense financial resources to clone and falsify multiple documents. They had accounts in many banks under many names and had obtained numerous degrees, both university and high school diplomas.
I tapped into several of their phone calls, as well as other emails and text messages. Additionally, I was able to access their computers by jumping and altering the router code of their house.
"They are a truly welcoming family..." I smiled as I extracted photos, chat files, and other materials.
I learned about their tastes and had an estimation of each one's personality, but what interested me was to see the bonds and, above all, the possible abilities of each one.
I made a record of the vampires with abilities and estimations of the usage of each one, registering it in my database:
Alice Cullen. Precognition. Ability to see the future, risk estimation five out of five.
Jasper Hale. Pathokinesis. Ability to manipulate emotions, risk estimation, added to his military experience, four out of five.
Edward Cullen. Telepathy. Ability to read minds, risk estimation, three out of five.
Isabella Cullen. Mental Shield. Ability to protect minds, risk estimation, two out of five.
Renesmee Cullen. Telepathic projection and shield penetration, risk estimation, one out of five.
There were more members besides Dr. Cullen, such as his wife Esme and the couple Rosalie and Emmett, but none seemed to possess any special ability. I seriously wondered if attending would expose my mind to the guy named Edward and Jasper's ability, which could toy with my emotions, leaving me vulnerable. At one point, I thought:
"Isn't Jasper the same one Maria compared me to before dying in our duel? The same one whose soul she whispered in the cave?" I don't know if he'll really be happy to see me.
Between the girl Bella and her daughter Renesmee, I saw no danger, perhaps due to their more defensive or communicative abilities.
"Bella had a hybrid child with Edward the vampire? My god, how irresponsible! How could she have survived!"
Among the data I had, I noticed that the woman's last name was originally "Swan."
"Isabella Swan... where do I remember that name? Ah! She's the same girl who was in the database of potential humans with blood potential for vampires. She was a future victim of the defunct Blood Moon cult!" I remembered that I was there myself, and if I hadn't destroyed the laboratory, they might have kidnapped her. I reflected on how Anastasia's actions might have, in a twisted way, saved her life as well.
As I continued snooping through data and their personal histories, I noticed something very important.
"Damn it! Alice can see the future! She'll surely see that I'm hacking into their computers!"
I immediately wiped my digital fingerprints and cut the signal immediately. I had probably made a big mistake.
And as I got up, I felt a great blow, from something massive and large, that I couldn't see. It sent me flying many meters, instinctively, I protected the jar with my hands.
I spun several times holding onto my backpack and I could see them:
"Volturi guards..."
I gripped the saber and prepared some bombs. This time there were five guards... The five of them started to surround me and rushed at me at full speed. I prepared two smoke bombs and detonated them on my body, flying a second before they could reach me.
I recognized the three guards who chased me in Antarctica. I prepared the database of my mask and began to import all the combat movements learned from all the vampires my AI had learned from, from Od to Amun. This time, I'll use the mask to detect the poison and see through the tricks of the invisible vampire. I've improved it since my confrontation with the Amazon illusionist.
As they absorb the gas, I throw several tasers that paralyze the group. Brandishing the saber, I charge at one of the vampires with a slash, and as I prepare for the next, the vampire named Afton shouts.
"Watch out, Felix!"
The big one named Felix suddenly throws me a spectacular kick, sending me kilometers away and making me hit house after house, while I do my best to protect the jar.
Without my saber, I hear the vampire named Santiago shout:
"Surround him, Demetri, he doesn't have his weapon!"
The vampire named Demetri surrounds me, and I throw another taser at him. As he dodges it, Santiago lunges at me, while I wield the dagger. Calculating the trajectory between his speed and the diameter of distance, I ignite the dagger and give him a slash to the chest.
"Ahhh! It burns!"
Santiago tries to put out the flames, but I knew it was in vain. Once the glowing blade enters the body, death is inevitable. Demetri looks on in shock, and I, with the dagger poised in a combat stance, look at Afton, Demetri, and Felix.
Both Afton and Demetri come within my reach, and I give slashes to their cloaks and clothes, causing them to begin to incinerate. I had to be extremely careful because the jar had to be protected at all costs.
While Demetri grabs me, I throw another slash towards Afton, grazing his skin and starting to burn slowly. I activate the electric glove and hit him in the hand. When I'm ready to execute him with the dagger, Felix charges at me again, nearly stunning me, and I embrace the jar as I fall.
The three of them prepare and run towards me, Afton seemed to be slowly recovering.
"1... 2... 3... Come on, come on..." I thought.
Already at the perfect distance, I activate the LRAD, and the concentrated sound wave hits all three of them directly in the body. I activate the propulsion boots and call back both the dagger and the saber, launching a couple of rockets from the boots, and finally, I make my escape.
"They are much more experienced fighters than me, it will be a matter of time before they kill me, and I must not let the jar be destroyed."
As I ran like crazy, I thought about how to get out of such a situation. I saw in the distance that they were already recovering and seemed to be following my steps.
"I'll have to go to a crowded place..." I thought, while looking panicked as the sun began to rise on the horizon.
Suddenly, I receive an email with a message, coming from none other than Alice Cullen.
"The coordinates!" I think, with the mask and my hood on.
Already inside the harbor with the sun shining outside, I blended into the crowd, and they no longer seemed to be following me. The vampires feared being exposed in the sunlight in a crowded place, but they were probably navigating through alleys or more isolated areas.
Then I receive another email with a photo of a boat, and I can see how the now hooded Volturi guards are observing me from a distance. The boat seemed to be one of those large luxury yachts, too big to be just a yacht, and there was a man smoking outside. As I approached, he saw me, smiled, and automatically said:
"Miss Cullen awaits you on the new continent, my friend, come aboard."
I was completely confused, but I assumed that she had already had her visions and had come to my rescue, so I boarded without asking, thinking:
"Why on earth a yacht! It could have been a plane..."
