Chapter Three: Fuel to Fire

Harry was in a delicate position. The bear's enormous body rested on the ground. Harry's gaze widened as he beheld the sleeping bear, its colossal size obstructing his way forward. Its thick, dark fur was matted and tangled, covering its powerful muscles and giving its body a hulking appearance. Its deep brown fur was matted and unkempt, strands of it clinging to its damp body. The musky scent of the bear fills Harry's nostrils, mixed with the fresh scent of the nearby babbling brook and the earthy aroma of the forest. Harry could also catch a whiff of the bear's rank breath as it snored contentedly. The taste of fear lingers on Harry's tongue, metallic and bitter. It mixes with the dryness in his mouth and the lingering flavor of his last meal. The sound of Harry's heart pounding in his chest was almost deafening.

Harry's grip on his wand tightens, the familiar comfort it usually brings now replaced with a sense of dread as he stares at the daunting sight before him. The magical energy within it pulses with a dangerous intensity, ready to be unleashed in a split second. And then, as if sensing Harry's presence as a threat, the bear stirs from its slumber. Its massive form rises slowly, muscles rippling beneath its thick fur as it stretches languidly. Those piercing eyes fix upon Harry, filled with uncanny intelligence that sends shivers down his spine. As it stands tall, towering over him like an ancient titan from folklore, Harry can feel his heart racing and his palms sweating in fear. Without warning, the massive bear charged at Harry with a ferocity that shook the ground beneath his feet. Its razor-sharp claws gleamed in the dappled sunlight, taunting and daring him to make a move. A surge of fear hit him like an avalanche, threatening to freeze him in place. But he refused to succumb to its paralyzing grip. His mind raced as he frantically searched for a way out of this deadly situation. The sounds of crashing waves and thundering hooves echoed inside his head, drowning out any rational thoughts. Summoning all of his courage and determination, Harry faced off against the charging beast. He could feel the power of his magic coursing through his body, ready to be unleashed upon his opponent. With lightning reflexes, he dodged the bear's deadly swipes and lunges - narrowly avoiding being torn apart by its sharp claws.

"Diffindo!" Harry roared above the chaos, channeling all of his energy into one precise strike. The spell hit its mark with explosive force, striking the bear's shoulder and halting its charge in a burst of blinding light. For a moment, everything stood still as both combatants locked eyes in a battle of wills. But then the bear let out a deafening roar and charged once again, fueled by rage and pain. And Harry knew that the true fight was only just beginning.

The bear's roars reverberated through the area, causing birds to scatter from the trees and small critters to seek refuge in their burrows. Harry stood his ground, adrenaline coursing through his veins as he prepared for the next onslaught. The earth trembled beneath him as the bear charged relentlessly, its massive form barreling towards him with unrelenting fury.

With a quick flick of his wand, he cast the most powerful spell he had ever learned at school - "Aegis Aviteus" - designed to defend against the most potent attacks. Harry conjured a Shield Charm just in time to deflect the bear's powerful swipes. The impact sent shockwaves through his arm, but he gritted his teeth and focused on maintaining the protective barrier. Sweat dripped down his brow as he struggled against the sheer strength of the beast.

"Diffindo!" Harry shouted, sending a cutting spell directly at the bear. The pale pink light burst forth from his wand, striking the creature square in the chest.

The bear let out a deafening roar as the spell struck true, causing the massive creature to stumble back in pain. Harry seized this moment of weakness and pressed his advantage, his determination unwavering despite the adrenaline coursing through his veins. He could feel the burn of exhaustion creeping into his muscles, but he pushed past it, focusing solely on the task at hand. As the bear regained its footing, it bared its sharp teeth in a menacing snarl, saliva dripping from its jaws as it locked eyes with Harry once more. The ground trembled beneath their feet as the forest seemed to hold its breath, anticipating the outcome of this fierce battle. Harry knew he had to end this confrontation quickly before both he and the bear sustained irreparable bear reared up on its hind legs, towering over Harry's small frame. With lightning speed, it swung its massive paw down towards the young wizard. Harry tried to dodge, but the bear's reach was too great. The razor-sharp claws caught Harry's left arm, shredding through his sleeve and slicing into his flesh. Harry cried out in pain as he was knocked to the ground by the force of the blow. Blood poured from the deep gashes in his arm, soaking through the torn fabric. Gritting his teeth, Harry pointed his wand at the advancing bear."Diffindo!" he yelled. The cutting curse slashed across the bear's thick hide, but barely left a mark. The beast was undeterred, continuing its relentless charge towards the injured boy. Seeing the futility of his attack, Harry tried to scramble away on his hands and knees. But the bear was too fast. It swung its paw again, connecting solidly with Harry's side and sending him flying through the air. Harry slammed into the trunk of a nearby tree with a sickening crack before crumpling to the ground. Agony exploded through his body as he realized the blow had shattered bones. He could barely breathe through the pain. Barely registering the notifications regarding the status, Harry opened his eyes and looked up.

The bear loomed over him, ready to deliver the final strike. Harry's wand had flown from his grasp when he hit the tree. Recalling his status in his mind, Harry realized how dire a situation he was in. He had no way to defend himself now.

Harry gritted his teeth against the agonizing pain, feeling the broken ends of bone grind together in his arm. His elbow was a shattered mess, bent at an unnatural angle. With the last remnants of his strength, he stretched out his good arm, summoning his wand to his hand. The familiar holly wood smacked into his palm, and he clenched his fingers around it.

Slowly, painfully, he looked up into the eyes of the bear looming above him. Its hot breath washed over him, reeking of rotting meat. This was it. After everything he had survived, he was going to die here alone in the forest, mauled by a wild beast. Harry stared defiantly up at the bear, unwilling to look away even as it raised a massive paw for the killing blow. If this was to be his end, he would face it with courage. The jaws opened wide, dagger-like teeth glinting.

Fury built up inside Harry. Biting his lip until it bled, a growl erupted from his lips and his expression changed to one of murder. Fury, true unbridled fury yearned to get out from inside Harry. That fury that had built up over years of suffering and hopelessness. It was a tempest of raw emotion, a swirling tornado of rage that threatened to consume Harry from the inside out. It was the accumulated weight of years of torment and injustice, churning and roiling within him, ready to be unleashed in a destructive torrent. It was fury, pure and unadulterated, a primal force that was almost palpable in its intensity. It was a fire burning in his soul, a storm raging in his eyes. The air around him crackled with its intensity, and his body shook with its force. This was the culmination of years of pain and anger, a force that could break mountains and unleash chaos.

"Incendio" Harry's voice boomed, his throat raw from the exertion. Every ounce of his magical essence was channeled into the spell, a desperate and primal act fueled by pure survival instinct. The result was a cataclysmic surge of fire, an uncontainable inferno that erupted from his wand with explosive force. It was a spectacle of crimson and orange fury, blazing and crackling with raw energy as it danced and twirled through the air, hungrily seeking its target. The bear, a hulking mass of fur and muscle, stood no chance against the ferocity of the spell. Its massive jaws hung open in shock and disbelief as the scorching torrent zeroed in on its gaping maw with deadly precision. The once-proud predator's eyes — once filled with predatory anticipation, now flickered with surprise and terror for the briefest moment as it comprehended its inevitable demise at the hands of magic. The flames devoured the bear's head in a fierce, frenzied dance, reducing it to cinders and ash within moments. The once formidable creature was now nothing more than a charred ghost of its former self, its smoldering silhouette etched onto the ground as a haunting reminder of its demise. As the heat dissipated, all that remained was a hollow void where life had once thrived. The decapitated body teetered on shaky legs for an instant longer than seemed possible before gravity took hold. It collapsed heavily onto the ground; a defeated titan brought down by a thirteen-year-old wizard whose heart pounded wildly in his chest at his own terrifying display of power.

As Harry's heart raced and his hand trembled, he struggled to catch his breath. His wand slipped from his grasp, a reminder of the dangerous situation he found himself in. The adrenaline pumped through his body, making it hard for him to fully comprehend the gravity of the danger surrounding him. He closed his eyes and tried to calm himself, but conflicting emotions tore through him like a storm. Desperation, fear, and loneliness swirled together, leaving Harry unsure of what he truly wanted. Part of him longed for someone, anyone, to come to his aid in this battle. But another part knew deep down that he was truly alone in this. Harry couldn't control himself. He sobbed in despair, begging for help in his mind while also feeling resigned to the fact that no one would come. His cries echoed into the stillness of the aftermath, emphasizing his solitude and desperation. But even as he cried out for assistance, a small voice inside reminded him that he had survived on his own before. The forest may have been silent, but it bore witness to his struggle. Though there was little comfort in their silent vigil, it was all Harry had at the moment. Wiping away tears, he forced himself to assess the situation despite the pain coursing through his body. His arm was surely broken from the bear attack. And yet, even though the immediate danger was gone, Harry knew that his journey through this archipelago was far from over. He had barely made it out alive this time due to luck and sheer desperation. Taking a deep breath, Harry tried to push back the hopelessness and fear threatening to overwhelm him. He couldn't give up now - there had to be a way out of this mess. Gripping his wand tightly in his uninjured hand, he searched desperately for any solution. A healing spell could fix his broken bone, but he lacked the skill and energy to properly cast it. The forest seemed to close in on him, shadows creeping closer and closer. Harry couldn't shake the feeling of being watched, even though his fiery spell had driven away any potential threats. But despite all of this, he refused to give up hope. There had to be a way, he just had to find it. He couldn't stay here, broken and vulnerable. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that he had a lot of notifications to read so, out of his lack of strength to make any decisions, he decided to deal with it now.

Harry's eyes widened in shock as he realized there was an inventory option. While gaining multiple levels was certainly great news, it didn't do much for him in his current state - lying against a tree and feeling completely beaten down. He needed to find something that would assist him in this dire situation. The smell of burnt flesh and fur hung heavy in the air, mixing with the scent of ash and smoke. It was a pungent, acrid smell that made Harry's nose wrinkle in disgust. He followed his eyes to where the animal had fallen and noticed a bright, electric blue hue surrounding its body. He focused on it intently and saw there was an inscription. Inspect? Y/N? With the click of a button, a tiny window made up of squares materialized before Harry's eyes. Two of the squares were occupied by unfamiliar icons, their meaning unclear. Below them, he spotted a "Take all" button, and it dawned on him that just like in games, every defeated opponent left behind valuable items. A rush of excitement coursed through him as he clicked the button and mentally commanded his inventory to open. Suddenly, a large window appeared before him, displaying an image of himself adorned in various pieces of clothing. Each garment was represented by its own square, distinct from the others. To the right was a larger square which served as the main section for storing acquired items during his expedition. At the moment, only three items resided there: a silver ring with a level 2 rating that boosted wisdom by two points (presumably given as reward for completing the mission "A whole day away from home"). The ring gleamed like a sliver of moonlight trapped in a circle, its smooth, cool surface promising protection to the wearer. There was also a throbbing crimson elixir named "Eir's Pristine Restoration," and a Harry now donned a luxuriant, crimson pelt, a trophy from his victorious encounter with the bear. The fur was plush and dense, offering an enveloping warmth that shielded him from the biting cold. Each strand shimmered with vitality, a testament to the powerful creature it once belonged to. It was more than just a coat; it was a symbol of survival and triumph against nature's brutal boasted added protection against cold weather - its texture resembling that of the bear he had encountered earlier.

With a press of the "Take all" button, Harry watched as the massive bear's carcass dissolved into thin air, leaving behind only the faint metallic tang of blood and charred fur. The once imposing predator was now reduced to nothing but a memory, disappearing like a mirage in the desert. The overwhelming smell of death was quickly replaced with the crisp scent of fresh air, bringing a sense of relief and calm to Harry's senses. Reaching out with his hand and clicking on the icon with the potion "Eir's Pristine Restoration," Harry felt the item appear in his hand. Harry gripped the glowing potion, admiring the way the glass felt smooth and cool in his hands. He carefully uncorked the top, and the smell of earthy herbs and rich cherries wafted out. Tipping the vial back, he let the thick liquid flow onto his tongue. The crimson potion was both bitter and sweet, with an undertone reminiscent of dark chocolate. Immediately, a comforting warmth spread through Harry's body from head to toe. Harry could feel the raw tenderness of his broken elbow easing, the sharp stabs of pain that had been his constant companion now gradually fading into a dull throb. The many lacerations that marred his body, cruel reminders of the battle he'd endured, began to close up, their angry red hues softening to a less threatening pink. Even the insidious internal bleeding, an invisible enemy wreaking havoc within him, seemed to be held at bay as the potion worked its miraculous healing.

His gaze dropped to his arm where a particularly nasty gash had once been. What was once a jagged tear in his flesh was now morphing into an almost imperceptible silver line. His fingers gingerly prodded at it, finding no pain, only the smooth texture of healed skin.

Flexing his arms and legs brought not agony but relief as strength returned to them like a tide rushing back in. It pulsed through him with renewed vigor, washing away fatigue and replacing it with an energy he hadn't felt since before the fight. It was as if he had just emerged from a deep sleep after a satisfying feast. The potion was nothing short of extraordinary; its powerful properties knitting Harry's battered body back together and restoring him to peak physical condition in mere moments. Invigorated, Harry leapt to his feet. He bounced on the balls of his feet and shook out his arms, testing his renewed vigor. The lingering soreness and fatigue from his battle was gone. Thanks to the brilliant crimson potion, Harry felt ready to take on whatever this strange new world decided to throw at him next. Gripping his wand tightly, a grin spread across his face. The game was on.

Harry stood in the center of a vast, open space. Behind him loomed the dense forest he had braved to get here. In front of him, sparkling in the sunlight, was a river so clear and pure it seemed to glow like liquid crystal. This was the next obstacle on his journey through the archipelago in search of before he could cross the river, Harry knew he needed to prepare. He reached into his inventory and retrieved a small survival ring, securing it around his finger with precise movements. With his trusty wand held firmly in his hand, he set off towards the riverbank.

Ring of Survival

+2 to wisdom

Gazing across the expanse of water, Harry made a calculated decision. Instead of trying to swim or find another way around, he would use magic to aid him in crossing. Focusing his energy and concentration, he cast the "Diffindo" spell at a towering tree on the opposite shore. With a loud crack, the tree split and fell across the width of the river, creating a stable bridge for Harry to ensure that the tree wouldn't be swept away by the current, Harry utilized another spell - "Wingardium Leviosa" - to levitate and place heavy stones at its base for support. Satisfied that his makeshift bridge was secure, Harry stepped onto it cautiously, carefully balancing himself as he made his way to the other side. Once safely on solid ground again, Harry looked ahead at an even denser part of the forest. With determination and resilience in his heart, he continued on his journey towards finding meaning amidst this mysterious archipelago.

Wondering how to properly distribute his attributes, Harry paused in place, savoring the sun's steaming rays on his back. The fur he had acquired in the fight with the bear lay safely in his inventory, but remembering the other side of the archipelago with its ice and snow-covered mountains, Harry realized that the System knew what it was doing. He gained five points for eating the Fruit of Ascension, gained two levels in the fight with the bear and gained the third level by completing the mission he got from Aunt Petunia, so for each level he gains five stat points. In total, he has twenty to give away.

Analyzing in his mind the course of the last fight, Harry didn't do so badly. Considering that the opponent had an advantage of several levels, the mere fact that he managed to survive is something significant. But his Diffindo spell, despite causing pain, was nothing special. Harry decided to invest ten points in strength. He had to spend the rest of the points on vitality because he realized that although stronger than before, he didn't know how many fights awaited him. The bear he had so much trouble with turned out to be just an ordinary monster. And his task clearly stated that he had to kill the head boss. So, naturally, since this bear was giving him such trouble, how is he supposed to approach the boss at all? Looking at his "Status", Harry felt much better.

Congratulations, you did manage to reach 20 points in Strength.

A smile of satisfaction appeared on Harry's lips. Five percent for the moment of twenty points of strength is only one point. But this percentage will be a game changer at a later time. Harry walked to the edge of the river and knelt down, cupping his hands to scoop up water for a drink. As the cool liquid quenched his thirst, he couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment. This new system he had stumbled upon wasn't so bad after all. The effects of increasing his strength were exhilarating. Looking up at the clear sky above him, Harry's mind was filled with contemplation. He marveled at how just one day in this unknown place had already changed him so much. There was a newfound sense of self-worth growing within him, nourished by this solitary expedition into the unknown. This was no longer the same Harry Potter who arrived here just yesterday; he had been transformed into someone stronger and more capable than before. After quenching his thirst, Harry rose to his feet and pushed forward into the depths of the forest. The trees grew thicker and more abundant as he ventured deeper, their verdant branches entwining overhead in a natural canopy that filtered the sunlight and cast dappled shadows on the forest floor. As he trod on, the crisp sound of breaking twigs and rustling leaves underfoot filled his ears, keeping him alert for any signs of danger or resources to gather. In the distance, a clearing came into view, revealing a magnificent apple tree heavy with ripe, red fruit. Harry quickened his pace and reached up, plucking several apples and watching as they vanished into his inventory thanks to the game-like system he had stumbled upon. He took a bite of a succulent apple, relishing its sweet flavor as he surveyed his surroundings carefully. With renewed energy, Harry chose a direction and set out to continue exploring this mysterious forest. Suddenly, the sharp snap of a twig echoed through the air behind him. Harry spun around just in time to come face-to-face with two massive brown bears. They stood on their hind legs, towering over him and unleashing thunderous roars that shook him to his core. Adrenaline surged through his veins as he gripped his wand tightly, bracing himself for the first real test of his newfound strength. Despite his racing heart, Harry remained resolute and prepared to defend himself against these ferocious beasts. This unexpected encounter only added to the excitement of his forest adventure - it was shaping up to be far more thrilling than he could have ever imagined.

Harry raised his wand, ready to cast his first spell against the enraged bears. "Diffindo!" he shouted. As Harry swiftly moved his wand through the air, a bright jet of pink light burst forth, cutting through the darkness of the forest. The light collided with the bear's chest, creating a deep gash in its thick fur and flesh. Harry stood his ground as the bear let out another deafening roar. The second bear now joined in, charging towards Harry with its razor-sharp claws bared and its teeth bared in a menacing snarl. With a fierce roar, the bear swiped its massive paw towards Harry, who agilely avoided the attack by leaping to the side. The second bear charged forward, its jaws agape and ready to crush the young wizard within its vice-like grip. But Harry remained calm and collected, swiftly rolling beneath the lunging animal and emerging unscathed behind it. "Diffindo!" he bellowed once again, his wand aimed for the bear's powerful hind legs. His severing charm struck with ferocious accuracy, slicing through thick fur, firm muscle and sturdy sinew. The bear let out a piercing howl of agony before collapsing to the forest floor, its hamstrung legs unable to support its weight. Spotting an opening to deliver the final blow, Harry wasted no time in charging forward, his wand poised for another slashing attack. This time his spell cut deeply into the bear's dense neck, opening a gaping wound that spewed forth hot blood like a geyser. The beast let out a guttural moan before falling silent, its life rapidly draining away onto the forest remaining bear stood dazed and disoriented from its companion's swift defeat, unable to comprehend the speed at which Harry had taken down both formidable opponents. Seizing on this moment of weakness, Harry focused his determined green eyes on the last of his foes and prepared to end this battle once and for stood poised and ready, adrenaline coursing through his veins as he faced down the final bear. It let out a roar of fury, enraged by the death of its companion. The bear reared up on its hind legs, towering over Harry's small frame. But he did not falter. With a flick of his wrist, Harry sent another slicing hex at the bear's front legs. It connected with a sickening crunch, severing thick muscle and sinew. The bear crashed heavily onto its front, the injured legs unable to support its massive weight. Not wasting a second, Harry darted forward, circling around the crippled beast. He fired off spell after spell, aiming to distract and disorient. The bear twisted and turned, snapping its jaws as it tried to catch the nimble young wizard. But Harry was too quick, fueled by determination and adrenaline. With the bear distracted, Harry seized his chance. He rushed in close and aimed his wand directly at the bear's heart. "Diffindo!" he yelled. The severing charm struck true, cutting deep into the vital organ. The bear let out an agonized roar as its life force rapidly faded. It slumped onto its side, blood pooling on the forest floor. Panting hard, Harry stepped back and surveyed his handiwork. Two massive bear corpses lay at his feet. Without giving them much thought, looting their corpses, Harry moved on. They didn't have anything of value with them, small potions to restore health, but at this stage Harry decided it was best to collect everything. Harry fought through the thick, suffocating undergrowth, his body drenched in sweat and his chest heaving with each labored breath. Every step was a battle against the unforgiving terrain, as thorny vines and twisted branches clawed at him like desperate predators. But he pushed on, driven by a primal will to survive despite the searing pain and exhaustion that threatened to overtake him. With trepidation, he emerged from the dense thicket and stood frozen at the edge of the clearing. His heart pounded against his ribcage, threatening to burst out of his chest as he took in the terrifying sight before him - a pack of towering bears, twelve or more, lazing in the warm sun and lazily swatting at bothersome flies with their massive paws. In the very center of the clearing, amidst a ring of tall trees and dense foliage, lay an enormous bear - far larger than any Harry had ever encountered. Its fur glistened in the sunlight, displaying hues of deep browns and rich blacks with every twitch and movement. Above its head, carved in elegant script, floated the name 'Sigmund'. Harry's eyes narrowed in determination as he took in the sight before him. Gripping his wand tightly, he steeled himself for the next battle that lay ahead - knowing that this formidable creature would not go down without a fight. Before he could decide on anything, a message from the system popped up in front of Harry.

Well done, you have just encountered the first of two mini-bosses in the archipelago. Defeat this one to obtain the clue necessary for facing the main boss!
