[Superpower Verse]
Part 10
Sleepy blue eyes blinked open and were momentarily confused by the sight of a familiar room. It was the room at the Blue Moon Rose that he and Kaito were currently staying in. The thought had no sooner crossed Shinichi's mind before he was confused again by why finding himself in this room felt like it should be a surprise.
Shinichi blinked slowly, thoughts drifting a little as though smothered in contented fluff, lulled by the sound of Kaito's steady heartbeat. He was currently lying half draped over said magician's bare chest with Kaito's arms wrapped securely around his own equally bare waist. Shinichi could feel a familiar ache in his muscles and a pleasant soreness in places that still made him blush even after all this time.
There was, however, nothing unusual about this state of affairs.
So where was that nagging feeling that he was missing something coming from? It felt as though they were supposed to be somewhere else, but why?
He closed his eyes, trying to think back.
They had gone on that hiking tour as they'd planned—and actually seen the ghost ship. That had been a surprise, but it just meant they had another piece of the puzzle about this island to work with. The guide had asked to see which of his hikers wanted to pay a visit to the local exorcist. He and Kaito had, quite naturally, chosen not to take him up on the offer. They hadn't been alone. There had been two other couples who'd wanted to simply go back to the Landing. They'd headed back, and…
And they'd ended up at an entirely unfamiliar building.
Like water rushing through a broken dam, a slew of jumbled memories flooded Shinichi's mind. He remembered the food, the wine, the dancing and the…tryst behind the ornamental pillar. Strangely, he couldn't remember their waitress's face. His recollection of how exactly he and Kaito had found the room they'd been given were a blur as well, but he did sort of remember that said room had been large and luxuriant. It had also followed the rose theme that characterized the rest of the establishment. Like the rest of the building, it had also lacked any and all electric lights, opting instead for ornate candelabras and lanterns.
The sheets had smelled of roses.
He remembered pulling Kaito down into another heated kiss, and he remembered moaning into that kiss as Kaito entered him again. A hot blush crept into his face as he remembered riding Kaito's cock with an utterly shameless, wanton enthusiasm that was mortifying to even think about now. The memory nonetheless sent tingles of heat curling through his veins, and he hastily tried to distract himself.
He did this by trying to remember how they had gotten from that sweetly rose-scented room back to the Blue Moon Rose. He was drawing a complete blank. On top of that, he didn't think he could walk across the room right now. There was no way he'd hiked down the mountain last night after…all that.
"Are you trying to smother yourself?"
Shinichi nearly jumped out of his skin at the unexpected question. He shifted so that he could lift himself up enough to glare at the culprit's clearly amused face.
"Are you trying to give me a heart attack?"
"Not at all," Kaito assured him. "I was merely expressing my desire to know what's on your mind."
"…Right. That's a likely story," the detective huffed, clearly not buying a word. There were, however, more pressing issues to discuss than the former thief's penchant for mischief.
"How did we get back here last night?" Shinichi asked. "Did you do something?"
"Nope," Kaito said far too cheerfully as he began rubbing gentle circles on Shinichi's lower back. "You really wore me out."
Shinichi blushed and dropped back down to tuck his head under Kaito's chin in a bid to hide the color. He tried valiantly to ignore the little voice in the back of his mind that was feeling very accomplished.
"Why aren't you worried?" he grumbled.
Kaito hummed a question, rather more preoccupied with the way his detective was absently nuzzling against his neck. It was very distracting. "About what?"
"Uh, the fact that neither of us can remember how we got back here?" Shinichi elaborated. Maybe it was just him, but he rather thought it should be obvious.
"…I suppose it is a little concerning," Kaito admitted. "But something tells me that everything went just how it was supposed to."
Shinichi frowned. Now that Kaito mentioned it…
"I…think I feel it too," he said slowly. "I know I should be really freaked out, but, at the same time, I feel like nothing's wrong. It's like I know that everything was—is—fine, but I'm not sure why."
"And you don't like not knowing why," Kaito surmised. "I suppose I can't blame you. It is a bit…odd."
Shinichi snorted. "That's an understatement if I've ever heard one."
Silence fell as they both pondered the peculiarity of the situation. Or rather, Shinichi pondered the situation while Kaito pondered his detective's soft, supple skin. Excepting how they had gotten back to their inn and select other details, Kaito could remember the events of the previous night quite well, and they were very nice memories indeed. His Shin-chan was absolutely irresistible when he was being all eager and needy (or, well, he always found Shinichi irresistible, but the point still stood).
His hands wandered lower.
Shinichi heaved a long sigh, shifting around a little more. "I guess nothing bad happened," he mused. "But I'd still be happier knowing what actually happened. Maybe we should go back and retrace our steps."
Since he still had his head tucked under Kaito's chin, he completely missed the wicked grin that broke out across his magician's face. It was, however, impossible to miss the hands abruptly groping his behind.
"H—hey!" Shinichi squeaked. "What do you think you're doing?" It was only as he asked the question that he realized that somewhere along the line during their earlier conversation, he had shifted enough so that he was straddling Kaito's hips in a very suggestive position (a fact which Kaito was already exploiting ).
"Helping, of course," Kaito said with an unrepentant grin. "Didn't you say you wanted to retrace our steps?"
"I meant go back to the trail and see if it jogs our memories!" Shinichi spluttered. He made an attempt to squirm out of Kaito's grasp but realized rather quickly that doing so in his current position was only exacerbating the situation. A moan escaped his lips, and he clamped his mouth shut.
Smirking, Kaito flipped them over and grinned down at his blushing love. "One way to jog the memory is to recreate the circumstances around the event you're trying to remember."
Any objection Shinichi might have made was cut off by a pair of lips covering his own.
Shinichi's already over stimulated body was very sensitive, and Kaito was more than happy to take advantage of that. It wasn't long at all before Shinichi's halfhearted protests gave way to the breathless little cries of pleasure that Kaito loves.

Shinichi sighed into the pillows as he listened to Kaito calling room service to order them some brunch (although at this point he felt they might as well be calling it lunch). He felt thoroughly ravished and, admittedly, rather content even though his memory had not been jogged (or at least not his memories of the journey back. Kaito had made certain they thoroughly reviewed the highlights of their time in the rose-scented bedroom).
Kaito finished his call and hung up. Turning a little where he was seated on the edge of the bed, he looked down at the detective curled up in the mess of blankets and pillows next to him.
"Are you okay?" he asked. "I didn't mean to get quite that rough."
"I'm fine," Shinichi assured him without opening his eyes. "It wasn't anything we haven't done before."
Kaito chuckled. "That's certainly true. I'm beginning to think you like provoking me."
"…I don't know what you're talking about."
"I can hear you blushing~."
"That's literally impossible."
"You should know me better than to believe that that would matter."
Shinichi decided it was time to change the subject.
"I still want to visit the newspaper office," he said.
"Don't worry. I haven't forgotten. But I suggest we go tomorrow."
"But—"
"I'll look them up and call them to see about making an appointment," the magician continued, cutting him off. "That way we can be more certain that we can actually talk to someone who can answer our questions."
Shinichi opened his mouth then shut it again. That plan was actually more efficient than just showing up unannounced at the newspaper office, especially considering that they didn't have any authority on the island. And it wasn't as though they had any proof that they were dealing with something time sensitive.
"Fine," he said eventually. "So then what did you have in mind for the rest of today?"
"Just relax here until the taste testing, maybe watch a movie, then go down and join in the fun," the older agent said promptly.
Shinichi grumbled something incoherent but relented. To be entirely honest, he wasn't sure he could stand just yet, and he strongly suspected that Kaito knew this and that it was the reason the magician had made the plans he'd made.
"I'll make that call then, shall I?"
Giving in to the inevitable, Shinichi rolled over and stretched out on his back so he could smile a little shyly up at his partner. "…Thanks."
Kaito smiled back, indigo eyes warm and sincere in that way that always made Shinichi feel like they were alone at the center of the universe. "Anything for you, Love."

The mouthwatering aromas drifting in through the open balcony doors heralded the start of the much anticipated Blue Moon Rose taste testing party. With the delicious scents came the increasing murmur of happy and excited voices and the strumming of a live band tuning their instruments.
By the time Kaito and Shinichi decided to head downstairs and join in on the festivities, there was already a sizeable crowd mingling both inside and outside the building, chatting and laughing while sampling scrumptious dish after scrumptious dish from the heavily laden buffet tables set up in the main dining hall.
Shinichi was taking a break from the delicious but slightly overwhelming plethora of dishes with a sweet and tangy fruit drink (complete with paper umbrella) when someone bumped into him. He barely managed to save his drink.
"Oh! I'm sorry," said person exclaimed.
"It's okay," Shinichi said just as quickly then stopped because he recognized the person. "Maeda-san?"
Maeda Saori blinked at him in surprise before recognition dawned. "Oh, Kudo-san, right? We met last night."
"That's right," he said. "By the way, speaking of last night, what did you think of that restaurant?"
Saori seemed puzzled by his question. "Do you mean the Landing?"
It was Shinichi's turn to blink in surprise. "Er, no. I mean that place we stopped at on the way back from the hike. The one with all the roses."
"Roses…?"
"The place that told us we had reservations," Shinichi tried again. "You were there with Fujiwara-san."
The girl's confusion did not diminish. "Who?"
"Fujiwara Hota? I thought he was your boyfriend, actually."
Saori laughed. "You must be thinking of someone else. I don't have a boyfriend."
"Oh. Sorry," Shinichi said uncertainly. "I guess I just assumed because you were hiking together…"
Saori shook her head. "It's okay, but I still think you're thinking of someone else. I wasn't on the hike with anyone."
Now thoroughly flummoxed, Shinichi could only nod and murmur a farewell as Saori excused herself to go sample the fruit salad.
Kaito arrived a moment later carrying a pair of beautiful, chocolaty confections in equally beautiful glass bowls and handed one to Shinichi.
"Was that Miss Saori?" he asked.
"I think so…"
The hesitant comment earned Shinichi a raised eyebrow from the magician. "What, does she have an identical twin sister or something?"
"No—or at least I don't think so. It's just… I was talking to her, and she remembers going on the tour with us, but she told me she didn't go with anyone and that she doesn't have a boyfriend. She also had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned the restaurant."
Kaito frowned. "Okay, that is pretty weird. What do you think it means?"
Shinichi could only shake his head. "I wish I knew."
