The end to her quiet life started simply.
Harriet would on occasion dip into the aquariums and act like a mermaid for the guests of both sides of the cafe. It was calming. The glass of the aquarium was one way so the patrons of either side of the cafe could see in but they couldnt see the other side of the cafe and the performer couldn't see out either.
Playing with the fish, swimming around the aquarium always had to remember to come up for air since she would use gillyweed to swim a little longer than average. But for the muggle side of the cafe she had to be careful in case someone might try to time her at some point. It had happened before. 7 minutes, 10 was pushing it.
But in those moments there was just complete peace.
It wasn't until she was drying her hair and getting changed in the suite above the tanks that she got a request. The manager of the Siren's Muse at the location by The Leaky Cauldron was a squib who excelled at their job. All the Siren Muses' tried to hire those who had decided to stay in the muggle world (or had been forced to as some squibs still were). It was hard for them to find jobs as often their level of learning wasn't on par with what alot of well paying jobs required. She also set up a scholarship for those who wished to get more schooling.
Harriet shook her head and looked at her manager, Clarence Potts, who looked knowingly at her. She often would get lost in her own head.
"Which side?"
"Diagon Alley"
"Name?"
She whipped out her wand (something she got used to, best way to cover what she could actually do) and sent a wave of intent and a wind swirled around her drying her hair. There was no use drying her hair the old-fashioned way if she was going to the Diagon Alley side.
"Lord Sirius Black."
Harriet froze, she knew hypothetically this day would come but she had hoped it would be a little longer.
Taking a breath to calm her heart, "What did you say?"
"He knows it was you in the tank. It seems he's got some information already regarding Hyacinth Ravenclaw. Should I send him away?"
She stared into space for a bit before shaking her head, "I'll see him in the parlor."
The parlor of the suites overlooked the top of the aquarium.
As she waited, she debated getting something other than tea but she shook her head it was best to enter into this conversation with a clear head.
"Lord Sirius Black greets Lady Ravenclaw."
There was a respectful but slightly sarcastic tilt to his speech. It was just the way he spoke.
Turning from the window overlooking the aquarium, Harriet nodded toward him.
As she sat and he followed across from her, she couldn't help but marvel at how face claims of him being played by Ben Barnes were so close.
"What brings you here, Lord Black?"
He didn't touch the tea that appeared on the table before him.
"You are a rather curious person, Lady Ravenclaw. No one even knew you existed until about 15 years ago."
"I traveled throughout my childhood. It was better to go by other names for my safety with the unrest that was developing in England."
"Hyancinth." He paused, his dark grey eyes boring into her own, "Such a unique name."
Harriet took a sip of her tea willing her hand not to shake. Somehow he knew, she wasn't sure how but he did. Instead she forced herself to merely shrug at his comment.
"It's odd. I found out you showed up at Gringotts the day the young Potter heiress disappeared. Such an odd coincidence."
"What are you suggesting, Lord Black?"
He looked semi-stunned after the question as if he himself hadn't thought through this exact question. But she knew it was an act, he was just waiting for her to trip up.
This time he leaned forward and got some tea, sipping it he looked up surprised.
"We have house elves memorizing our Diagon Alley guests preferences."
He placed his tea cup down with a clank.
"Did you know you look uncanningly like Lady Potter? You could be twins, or her daughter."
"What an odd coincidence!" It would seem she was in for a haircut. She'd grieve her long hair later.
He continued to test her but she wouldn't even give him an inch. When he left she hoped that would be the end of it but she doubted it. She played of the idea of going traveling again but it would look too much like she was running away.
So she got her hair cut, her red hair was just above her shoulders now, and continued on as if nothing else had changed.
Then one day, Lily Potter walked into the Siren's Muse.
