EDIT: I've changed some of the scene, as it makes more sense from what I read in the MCU regarding Agatha, so we're going with the same people who started the Salem Witch Trials!
SCREAMS LIKE A TIE FIGHTER FLYING BY
WE'RE BACK BAYBEEE!!
It has been a H Ö T minute since I last updated this! Sorry for the wait, my brain plain old refused to work when I tried to write anything on this. :']
So, I focused on fleshing out the Speakers! But we're here now!
As always, I do not own Marvel Cinematic Universe or their characters, but I do own my OC's! :) Enjoy! ;)
They rolled to a stop in front of a building, which Nova assumed was Natasha's apartment.
Natasha helped Nova out of the car, amused at the wobbly woman's antics.
Destiny exited the car and held onto the bouquet.
Nova oohed and ahhed at the cozy complex, guided by the other two women as she fawned over the knick knacks that decorated the complex.
Nova was like a butterfly, flitting from one object to another, asking question after question that tumbled out of her mouth.
Natasha answered to the best of her abilities, bombarded with all the questions.
Her gaze turned to Destiny, a shared humor passing between them.
"Alright, Nova, enough questions. The elevator is up ahead, let's go, chop chop!" Destiny said, pushing Nova forward with renewed vigor.
Nova had begun slowing down, like a windup toy reaching its last gasp before shutting down.
The button pressed, the trio waiting for the elevator to reach their floor.
Nova was dead on her feet. The meds were finally wearing off, and Nova was feeling the pain ebb back into her awareness.
Hand gingerly pressed to her side, Nova followed the two into the elevator and up into Natasha's apartment.
The apartment had a different feel to the rest of the complex.
Nova took in the bare apartment, void of anything to make it a home.
Destiny ushered Nova over to the couch, creating a little nest around Nova, leaving the bouquet on the coffee table.
"Creating a campfire?" Nova teased.
"Yeah, and you're the kindling." Destiny shot back with a grin.
"I could put it out with a gust." Nova said with a confident smirk.
"Your gust would be no match!" Destiny chuckled.
The two shared an amused grin, leaving Natasha puzzled.
Nova winced as she shifted, her ribs protesting.
Destiny, ever the mother hen leaned forward to try to help.
Nova glared at her with irritation.
"Is anybody hungry?" Natasha asked.
"Starving." Destiny said, attention now on Natasha.
" You're always starving." Nova said.
" So are you." Destiny shot back.
Natasha smirked at the bickering duo.
"Do burgers sound good?"
"With fries?" Destiny asked.
"Always with fries, Dee. Never without." Nova replied.
Chuckling, Natasha ordered the food and watched as the two women argued between each other about food.
The argument didn't stop, not until the food had arrived.
The two Speakers fell on their food like ravenous wolves.
"So, Nova," Natasha said, pointing a fry at Nova, "you're a Windspeaker?"
"Yup." Nova nodded.
"How does that work?" She asked.
"Well, as a Speaker, I can command the wind to a certain extent, and I get visual images from what the wind has 'touched'. I'm not very good at it, though." Nova explained.
"You seemed pretty good out there." Natasha said.
"Trust me, there are more talented Windspeakers out there than me." Nova shrugged, eating a fry with her good hand.
"How come I haven't heard anything about 'Speakers'?" Natasha probed.
Nova glanced at Destiny, exchanging an uncomfortable glance.
"Well," Destiny sighed, Natasha turning to her in surprise, "it's a long, bloody story."
"One that the King tried to erase." Nova added.
"King?" Natasha asked.
"King Henry the eight. Alongside the witches, he deemed us evil as well. He created a group, The Silencers, to eradicate us all." Destiny explained.
"The Silencers believe in preserving what they consider the 'natural order', viewing us as disruptions to the 'established balance'." Nova said, "any and all information they got their hands on about us was either locked up in a vault or burned, along with the bodies."
Natasha was startled by the grim implications, but didn't let it show on her face.
"The Silencers are still active, but so are we." Destiny said with pride.
"So you're a Windspeaker?" Natasha asked.
"Nope." Destiny said.
Holding out her hand, Destiny focused on a spot above her palm.
With a sizzling spark, a flame burst into life, hanging in the air.
Natasha leaned back in surprise.
"Don't be rude, Dee. Put it out." Nova scolded.
Grinning apologetically, Destiny closed her hand around the flame and extinguished it.
"I'm a Firespeaker." Destiny said.
"Like it wasn't obvious from the fire?" Nova teased.
Destiny glared at Nova.
"You can't burn an injured woman." Nova sang.
Destiny gave Natasha an exasperated look.
"So, These Silencers. How do you track them?"
"We have correspondents that warn us of their movements. The job is… lethal." Nova said quietly.
Destiny placed a comforting hand on Nova's shoulder.
"Her Aunt…" Destiny trailed off, unsure if she should continue.
"My Aunt was very vocal about her pride as a Windspeaker. She became a correspondent and… They got her. She disappeared without a trace."
"I'm… I'm sorry." Natasha said.
"It couldn't be helped. Correspondents are… more vulnerable than the communities in a way." Nova said.
An uncomfortable silence fell over the room.
Destiny pushed her food away, standing, "well, it's getting late, and I should probably go home."
"Do you want to take your food home with you?" Natasha asked.
"I lost my appetite." Destiny said.
"I'll take it!" Nova offered.
"On second thought," Destiny said, snatching up the food.
Nova pouted, but let it slide.
"I'll give you a ride?" Natasha offered, a little wary of letting the woman walk home, especially after what she was told.
"I'll be fine. I've got a squeaky clean record." Destiny said with a wink.
Destiny leaned over to hug Nova.
"May your flame guide your path." Nova said, pulling back to grip Destiny's right forearm with her left hand.
Destiny grasped Nova's left forearm with her right hand and leaned forward to rest her forehead against Nova's.
"May your wind guide you home." Destiny replied.
They released each other with a smile.
"See you later." Destiny threw over her shoulder as she left.
Natasha blinked, confused by the interaction.
"What was that?" She asked.
"It's a farewell, the gesture remains the same between speakers, but the greetings and farewells change between us."
"Hm." Was Natasha's only response.
The two continued eating their meals in a comfortable silence.
The quiet was broken by a chime.
Natasha looked down at her phone which had remained silent for the duration they were in the apartment.
Nova watched as Natasha smirked, typing out a reply.
Natasha turned the smirk towards Nova, who was in the process of shoving her burger into her mouth, eyes on Natasha.
Natasha's smirk grew wider, reminding Nova of the Cheshire cat's grin.
In a quick movement, Natasha snapped a picture of Nova.
Nova straightened in surprise, unable to respond with her mouth full of food.
She had to settle on a noise of protest.
Natasha typed away on her phone as Nova rushed to swallow her food.
"What was that for?!" Nova demanded angrily.
"Our Soulmate wanted to know how you were doing." Natasha said.
Nova dropped her burger in shock.
Mouth agape, it took Nova a moment to respond.
"Wait- Hold on-" Nova fumbled with her words.
"Do you need a moment?" Natasha asked, smirk still in place.
Nova stuttered, trying to find words.
"Did you have to send that picture?" Nova asked.
Natasha chuckled.
"Natasha!" Nova groaned, resting her forehead on the counter.
Unbeknownst to Nova, Natasha took another picture and sent it again.
The new photo received a barrage of new texts, which had already been blowing up Natasha's phone at an alarming rate.
Hopelessly amused, Natasha watched her platonic Soulmate squirm as Nova died in embarrassment.
"Call me Nat." Natasha said.
Nova glared belligerently at Nat.
Nova leaned forward in realization, "wait- no-"
Nova slapped her good hand on the table in realization.
"Wait- No-! Why didn't you tell me?! Who are they?"
"Patience, Novalie."
"Patience is a virtue I do not have! Spill!" Nova demanded, the remains of her food were long forgotten.
"You'll meet him tomorrow."
Him! Nova thought excitedly.
"Wait, tomorrow? Why can't it be now?" Nova asked.
"Because you need your rest."
Nova scowled.
"Doctors orders." Nat reminded.
Nova grumbled, picking at the cold fries.
"Do I need to tie you to the bed?" Nat asked.
"No ma'am." Nova said, dropping the fry and straightening in her chair.
"Good." Nat said, standing and handing Nova her painkillers.
Nova obediently took the meds, and the clothes that Nat handed her.
"Go in the bedroom and change. You'll be sleeping there."
"But-"
Nat stared at Nova.
Nova shut up and nodded.
Once she changed, she peeked out of the bedroom, spotting Nat on the couch with a pillow and blanket.
"Do you-"
"Goodnight, Novalie." Nat said without turning.
"Goodnight!" Nova eked out.
She shut the door and crawled into bed.
It was surprisingly comfortable, seeming to soothe Nova's injuries and cradle her body.
Nova closed her eyes, trying to fall asleep.
A jolt of excitement sent a thrill through her body, snapping her eyes open.
Tomorrow! Nova thought with excitement.
Tomorrow, she will meet her Soulmate!
Nova closed her eyes again.
Her eyes opened again as she realized she couldn't sleep.
With a sigh, Nova let her mind wander.
As usual, whenever it was time to sleep, she found herself returning to her work.
She ran through the tasks that would have to be done to repair whatever damage Loki had done to her projects. She was still pissed about that.
Pepper had informed her to take her time with Nova's recovery, having seen her dropped from the Tower and beat five shades of blue in the fight.
That didn't keep Nova from worrying about her projects. They were her babies, her blood sweat and tears.
Nova drowsed, finally slipping into sleep as her meds kicked in.
