"Did you know that you could still shadowtravel?"
Nico looked at his hands and admitted he didn't. "It just worked."
Will nodded. "Yeah my dad's like that."
"I'm not sure what we're going to do now. I'm not sure where we are."
"Mexico? That's all I really know about these guys," Will said, waving off a few butterflies.
"This is probably not the best place for us to be in the middle of the night," Nico said.
"Nope. So what are we doing?"
Nico sighed. How was he supposed to get back if he wasn't sure of where they were?
"Let's see what happens," Will said. He held out his hand for Nico. A few seconds later they were standing on an empty stretch of road near an ancient looking mileage sign. "Bangor, 50 miles back that way. That's oddly specific. I think you overshot. Isn't that in Maine?"
"How would I know? Besides I'm not even tired from the shadowtravel."
"I am," Will said, throwing a look at Nico.
"Hold on, let me think..."
"I need my sleep, Nico!"
Nico grabbed his hand and suddenly they were in front of the Athena Parthenos. He threw Will's hand from his and started down the path to the main grounds.
"Look, I'm sorry-" Will started to say but Nico was moving away too quickly. "Nico, come on, you know I didn't mean it."
Instead, he went back into the Hades cabin. Will stood there for a second before, "Fine, if you'd rather stay in there!" He got halfway to the Apollo cabin before backtracking.
He went into the Hades cabin, immediately feeling the shift. The sense of dread was palpable but Will did his best to ignore it.
Nico was sitting on one of the beds, holding the photo they found of his family. Will wasn't surprised that he was crying, looking at it. "They're gone. They're actually gone."
"I know. I'm sorry..." Will sat next to him and slid an arm around him. Nico leaned in and started really sobbing. For some reason, his own powers seemed to amplify.
Nico slowly nodded off and Will left him sleeping there then he climbed to top bunk. The feeling of dread started to diminish and eventually he fell asleep too.
