"Wooooooo-hahahahahahaha-ooooow! That is one bad boy!" Niffy was the one to break the silence with her obsessive gaze locked onto the television.

"One Overlord down already," Husk said crossing his arms. "I wasn't really optimistic about this at first, but now…"

"That guy might be able to pull this off," Angel finished.

During the whole fight, Angel felt moments of terror but also cathartic triumph. It was like watching a sports game back in the living world. Only the teams were fighting to the literal death and the victor would determine the fate of everyone in the room Angel sat in. But even with his fate on the line, the triumphs really made Angel feel good. Especially when he saw Valentino blown up through the window. But everyone in hell knew that wasn't the end of him or Vox. This Doom Slayer was going to have to get up close and personal to truly finish them off like he did with Velvette. Even so, the question still lingered in everyone's head.

"Are you sure you don't know anything about this guy, Vaggie?" Angel asked.

"I swear," Vaggie said. "I never heard anything about a human who has the strength to slay Overlords."

"And yet here he is accompanying Princess Morningstar in her efforts to topple three of them," Alastor said stroking his chin. "Seems she's had a change in her character upon meeting this fellow."

"But… when?" Angel asked. "When and where did she meet this… Doom Slayer?"

"I don't know how or where," Vaggie said. "But I remember one night a week ago Charlie said she needed to take a walk because she couldn't sleep. Then she was in bed with me when I woke up the next morning."

Husk stroked his chin and pondered.

"Perhaps-"

"LOOK!" Pentious suddenly interrupted. The pondering and theory crafting would have to wait.

"The battle issssn't over yet!"

With one Overlord down, it was time to pursue the next. Luckily for the Slayer, which one to go after was obvious. From the bashed in door the Slayer punched Vox through, several robots emerged. Normally, Vox's robo-imps would be walking around serving the three Overlords. But these robots were larger and resembled Hellhounds. The robo-hounds strived forward on all fours before stopping and standing upright. Their bodies glowed with blue lights while their eyes glowed a threatening red accompanied by sharp teeth and claws. One of them stepped forward.

"It turns out we at VoxTech aren't just interested in providing entertainment and recreational products to our customers," Vox's voice emerged from the speakers of the lead robo-hound while its red eyes flickered in time with his voice. "We've also been investing in combat robot models in case dire circumstances arise. For that, I thank you Mr. Doom Slayer for giving us the opportunity to field test our first line of prototypes."

The hounds then crouched in a ready stance with their sharp teeth and claws on display while others pulled out guns. In response, the Slayer casually reached behind him and pulled out his shotgun. Vox spoke up again.

"If you're hellbent on vanquishing the Vees, then I invite you to face me within my personal lair down below. If you can make it, I assure you'll be given a worthy fight before your inevitable death. Good luck."

The speaker went silent, and the robo-hounds charged. The Slayer shot a stick grenade at one of the gunner hounds before blasting away at the ones looking to put their teeth and claws in him. These fodder enemies did manage to keep the Slayer more on his toes than Velvette's mannequins. But in the end, they were still fodder and the Slayer cut through them like butter. When the last hound was shredded, the Slayer proceeded through the broken door to search for the entrance to Vox's lair. Charlie got up from the railing she leaned on and prepared to follow him. But she stopped when something caught her ear. She looked back into Valentino's crib.

Valentino flew into his wrecked penthouse through a hole in the window that was caused by collateral damage. When his feet met the floor, he hunched over onto his knees and panted. He was hurt badly with gashing wounds all over his body. Charlie walked back into the room and stood a good distance away from Val.

"Not quite the show you were expecting, is it?" she said. "Or at least, not the outcome you'd have hoped for."

Val took a deep breath to stop his panting. He looked up at Charlie with an irritated look before gathering his strength and stood upright. Charlie took a moment to look at Valentino's wrecked room.

"You know, this could have been easily avoided," she said. "Just one tiny alteration and I would have been fine with that. Now you have one less V to your name."

Val glanced through the hole in the wall to the studio. Though it was doubtful he could see Velvette's corpse from where he stood, he knew what Charlie meant. But rather than show remorse, he tightened his fists, gritted his teeth and responded.

"And force me to water down the quality of my art? I don't think so."

He took a step to his right. She did the same. Soon, both he and Charlie started to circle each other around the room. As they did, Valentino suddenly chuckled. A sadistic grin emerged on his face along with a predatory gaze that fell onto Charlie.

"You know," he said. "I actually miss the naïve and clumsy princess who nearly burned down my studio. It's given me an idea for a role you would have been perfect for. 'The Slippery School Girl.' Truly would have been one of my masterpieces."

Val extended his tongue out of his mouth, making an intentionally loud licking noise. But to his surprise, Charlie didn't even flinch. Not even a wince in her eyes. Val quickly moved on.

"Tell me, what happened to that sweet little girl I miss so much? Did she die when she came face-to-face with that human?"

"In a way," Charlie responded. "One night, I couldn't sleep so I decided to take a walk. On my way back, I took a shortcut through an alleyway. Then out of nowhere a portal emerged and I fell through it. Found myself in a new hell. A hell from another universe. His universe."

Val cocked his brow.

"How intriguing," Val said. "Please indulge my curiosity."

Charlie continued.

"Turns out his hell was far more ruthless. The demons are nothing more than husks of sinners' bodies transformed into pure monsters once their souls are extracted. There was no reasoning with those demons. They wanted to kill me, and I had no choice but to kill them. Eventually I met him, the Doom Slayer. Together we slew countless demons to save his Earth from the invasion from hell. When it was done, I was able to come back home."

"I see," Val said. "And what did all of that bloodshed teach you?"

Charlie narrowed her eyes.

"That when push comes to shove, you can't be complacent if you are to keep what's important to you safe. So that's why I'm here. To ensure the safety of my guests, no matter the circumstances."

Val smirked.

"And you call upon your lap dog to do your dirty work instead of taking on three Overlords yourself," Val said in a mocking way. "I would have loved to know what the Slippery School Girl was capable of against a true Overlord of hell."

"Like I said, he insisted on coming along for this," Charlie shot back. "But…"

She stopped her pacing and planted her feet onto the floor. Val in turn stopped his pacing.

"If you truly want to face off against the Princess of Hell, I shouldn't deny you the opportunity."

She brought up her left arm and pulled back her sleeve. On her wrist was a metallic bracelet. In the center was a glowing red gemstone. She bawled her hand into a fist. Her eyes burned red, her hair waved behind her, and her horns emerged. She closed her eyes, and a burst of red energy blew out of the gem and engulfed her. Val brought up his hand to shield his eyes from the light and the blast of air. When he brought his hand down, he saw something rather unexpected.

Charlie's red business suit was gone. Now, she was wearing what could only be described as a futuristic gladiator outfit. On her hips was a metal belt that supported a skirt made of heavy cloth that reached halfway down her thighs. On her feet, two metal boots. Her belly was bare while her upper chest was covered by a metal breastplate. On her left hand was a metal gauntlet that bore the same red gemstone of her bracelet. Her hair was braided and hung behind her. At the top of her head was a metallic circlet that encircled her horns. And all her armor was made of the same metal the Doom Slayer's armor was made of. Not only that, but Charlie's exposed abs, legs and arms showed off toned muscles you would see on an Olympic athlete.

With her transformation complete, Charlie's burning red eyes beamed at Valentino.

"So," she said. "Are you just going to stand there and admire the view…"

She held her right arm behind her and in a flash of flames, a weapon appeared in her hand. A trident. She twirled the trident and then took her stance with her weapon pointed menacingly at Valentino. She finished her question.

"…Or are we going to fight?"

Floor by floor, the Slayer proceeded down the building, wrecking whoever got in his way and causing a lot of property damage. Eventually, the Slayer made it to the lobby. After taking care of a final pack of Robo-hounds, he saw a wall with a full body poster of Vox on it slide open. The Slayer walked over to the opened passage and peered at the black abyss below. He then stepped off the ledge and plummeted into the darkness. A full five seconds later, the Slayer landed in his "impact compensation" pose. He stood up to see only an abyss of darkness around him. But the darkness receded when the lights of hundreds of television screens turned on.

"Welcome to my humble lair, Mr. Doom Slayer," a large image of Vox appeared on a wall of TVs. "You should feel honored. No other souls besides the Vees are ever allowed down here."

The TVs then flickered, and Vox's face then shifted to another wall of screens on the other side of the room.

"Smile for the camera, because all of hell's eyes are on you."

Several screens changed to show the official broadcast of the event. It showed the Slayer standing in the middle of Vox's lair looking around at the screens.

"But you won't be the star for long," Vox said.

The screens then all went black. Then a single spotlight shown through the darkness. There, standing atop a small flight of steps was the Overlord. He pointed his finger at the Slayer and spoke with the bravado of a TV Star.

"Because the script demands a dramatic death for the finale. And since I am the director of this show, I have chosen you to fulfill that role."

Behind him, Vox's command chair illuminated with his sphere of screens. Vox then morphed into his electrical form and teleported into his chair.

"So, let's get this show started!"

His body surged with electricity. The bolts surged around his monitors then into the cables that ran all around the room. Trap doors opened and a larger pack of two dozen robo-hounds emerged. Some were even larger while the rest were the same standard combat models. The Slayer took his stance, and the pack moved in on him.

On his way down, the packs the Slayer encountered were sparse, so it was easy to take them out one by one. But here, the larger number of enemies coming all at once made it a little harder to manage. But from his history of conflict, this wasn't anything new to him. He dashed out of the way as three hounds pounced at him at the same time. With them in the same grouping, the Slayer dashed back towards them and unleashed a blood punch, reducing all three metallic canines to scrap. He then brought out his heavy cannon and unleashed a precision bolt at one of the nearby gunners. From behind him, a hound pounced. But the Slayer managed to parry its claws with his blade and, with his other hand, pulled out his super shotgun and bisected the machine with a point-blank blast to the gut.

The Slayer then maneuvered his way through another group of hounds until five of them were bunched together. He then launched his ice grenade and froze them. He then brought out his Sentinel Hammer and slammed it into the ground, causing each frozen enemy to shatter into a million pieces. Then a larger hound ran in and swiped his claws at him. The Slayer dashed out of the way and pulled out his ballista to unload a shot into the beast's head. The robot flinched but recovered quickly. But the Slayer followed up the attack with a super shotgun blast. Before the robot could recover from that, the Slayer took ahold of the robot's arm and used his blade to sever it with three slices on the elbow. With all his strength, he took the severed arm and embedded the claw right through the head of the hound.

The rest of the hounds went down in a similar pattern of evasion, bullets, blade and fists. When the last hound was delt with, the Slayer swapped to his rocket launcher and fired a single rocket at Vox sitting on his throne. But to the Slayer's surprise, the rocket never reached its target. Surrounding Vox's command sphere was a blue energy barrier. He laughed.

"You think I wouldn't have thought of every safety precaution for my own lair?" Vox said. "What you're seeing here is a state-of-the-art energy forcefield. No physical projectile can penetrate it. Not even angelic weapons. So, I suppose you'll just have t-"

Vox was interrupted when a stream of energy projectiles pelted his forcefield. They came from the Slayer's newly revealed plasma rifle. After 3 seconds of continuous fire, a jolting electrical explosion erupted around the command sphere.

"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!"

Vox floundered in his chair from the overloading electricity that surged into him. By the time he managed to stop the surging, the Slayer was already on him.

"AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"

The Slayer's blade plunged right into Vox's chest with the crunching sound of metal cutting cables. Vox groaned in pain before forcing a surge of electricity out to force the blade out and push the Slayer away from him.

The Slayer skidded to a stop. He looked up to see Vox had fallen out of his chair and grasped at his wound. He panted with pain before looking up. Like with Velvette after the first direct hit, Vox's pain turned to anger. His screen contorted.

"Fine," he said. "Since you're so eager, I'll just have to cancel this show myself."

He got back into his chair and the forcefield reemerged around him. A surge of electricity flowed around the room through the floor. The Slayer knew what was happening. He quickly jumped onto one of the wrecks of the larger robo-hounds just as the entire floor of the lair was electrified. The Slayer knew there wasn't going to be enough room to maneuver if Vox was able to attack again. The Slayer looked up at the ceiling and got an idea. He brought out his rocket launcher again and fired a rocket at the girder holding up several of the lair's lights. The rocket hit the critical point and the entire steel structure came crashing down onto the floor. And just in time too. The Slayer leapt off the hound wreak just as a bolt of Vox's lightning struck it. The Slayer landed on the girder and walked across it as more bolts slammed around him. The Slayer managed to bring out his plasma rifle again and started to unload his shots at Vox's forcefield. But the Slayer didn't manage to pop the barrier because Vox stopped the floor shock for more of his robo-hounds to emerge and go after him. The Slayer stopped his attack and switched his attention to the new wave of fodder to take care of. His plasma rifle turned out to be an effective tool against the robo-hounds. Several hits of plasma caused them to overload and pop. All the while, the heat built up within the weapon. The Slayer kept dealing with Vox's minions, all the while evading Vox's lighting bolts, which also lead to moments of friendly fire. Eventually, Vox grew too irritated and screamed. The Slayer saw he was going to electrify the floor again. But he was too far from his makeshift bridge of safety. But the Slayer had another idea. The Slayer quickly ran to one of the larger hounds and used it as springboard to jump into the air just as the floor was electrified, frying all the remaining hounds in the process. The Slayer then brought out his super shotgun and launched his meathook at another girder on the ceiling. He swung on the chain before the hook dislodged sending the Slayer on a collision course with Vox. Vox tried to redirect his powers to stop him, but the Slayer already brought out his heated-up plasma rifle and unleashed a heat blast right on top of him. The forcefield popped and Vox once again floundered from the overload. The Slayer grabbed Vox by the neck and with his left fist, planted a hard punch right onto Vox's screen.

He pulled his fist back for another punch, but Vox managed to recover and unleash a powerful shockwave that launched the Slayer back once again. When he skidded to a stop and looked up, he saw Vox was done with it. His face burned with overwhelming rage as it flickered from the massive cracks across his screen.

"ENOUGH!" his booming voice was distorted and crackled with the flickering of his face.

He raised his hands and electricity erupted all around him. Lengths of cables burst out from the floor and snaked their way towards him. The screens around the room were pulled from the walls and attached to the mass of cables. They all combined and morphed around the Overlord until it resembled a larger version of him, about the size of the Cyberdemon the Slayer faced near the beginning of his crusade in his world. Vox's face appeared on the square set of TVs while the cables that formed his enlarged body sparked with electricity.

"SHOW'S OVER!" His booming voice erupted over the speakers. He pulled his hand back and unleashed a torrent of electricity at the Slayer. The Slayer easily dodged it along with the next surge. All the while, the Slayer landed several shots from his grenade launcher, rockets and the ballista. Vox then surged the electricity in his hands and planted them onto the floor. Knowing what it meant, the Slayer pulled out his super shotgun and launched the meathook at the girder above just as the floor became electrified. The Slayer repelled up and then released to fall directly atop Vox's shoulder. Before Vox could pull out of his attack, the Slayer pulled out his chainsaw and plunged it directly into the grouping of cables. Sparks flew everywhere as it cut deeper. Eventually, the Slayer put all his weight into the chainsaw and dismounted Vox's shoulder as the last of the cables gave way.

"GAAAAHHHH" Vox screamed as his arm fell off from his body. His face on the screens grimaced before looking menacingly at the Slayer.

He brought up his other arm to attack the Slayer again. But the Slayer sent another barrage of rockets that hit Vox in the chest. That was followed by a torrent of bullets that came from the Slayer's chaingun in mobile turret form that shredded away at the cables holding Vox's other arm together. The bullets continued until the cables gave way and hung uselessly off his elbow. The Slayer then switched to his ballista, now with the arbalest mod attached, and planted the shot in the middle of the screens. A second later, it detonated, causing each screen to go black and shatter. Vox's body then fell face first to the floor. He tried to move, but all he could manage was propping his body up on the stump of his left arm. The Slayer walked closer to see there was a glowing spot on the enlarged demon's chest. He pulled out his plasma rifle, now with the microwave beam attachment on, and connected the beam to the core. Vox's entire body surged as the beam pumped its energy into his chest. More and more and more until it couldn't take any more. Vox's entire body combusted, sending pieces of cables and screens into the air.

When the dust cleared, the Slayer put away his plasma rifle and walked in to examine the remains of Vox's final form. Everything Vox attached to himself was destroyed and lay on a pile of useless scrap. And on top of that pile was its king. Vox had returned to his normal form and laid on his back. Pieces of sparking cables were jutting out of gaping wounds all over his body, all the while surges of electricity caused him to twitch sporadically. His face was flickering on his screen with the same cracks the Slayer gave him before his transformation. When Vox saw the Slayer, his face showed the same thing Velvette showed in her final moments… fear. He tried to move, to crawl away. But the surges of electricity kept him from going anywhere. He was practically paralyzed.

The Slayer looked up at one of the remaining functional TV screens within the lair. It showed a stilted camera angle of the Slayer standing over Vox's twitching body. This gave the Slayer an idea. He pulled out his second token and dropped it on top of Vox's body. The token vanished and a wave of gentle energy brushed over Vox. The Slayer then brought out his shotgun, now with the automatic fire mod attached. With his victim and his weapon in the clear frame of the camera, the Slayer readied the revolving barrels and aimed it directly at Vox's chest. Vox's eyes widened and moaned weakly in terror.

The Slayer opened fire.

Blast after blast of buckshot slammed into the Overlord's chest, mincing his body into nothing more than scrap. Again, and again and again the buckshot came until the broadcast shown to the denizens of hell turned to static.

Vox was taken off the air… permanently.

Author's Note: Sorry for the long wait. Had a lot of stuff happening with work, life and spending time with family. Plus, it took me a while trying to nail down what a good Vox boss fight would be like (Went through several scraped drafts). But here I am, so feel free to tell me if I did a good job in making Vox a good opponent for the Slayer to take on.
