The next day Obito was feeling a lot better, probably due to the enhanced healing of the First Hokage's cells. Obito decided he didn't need the wheelchair today. So after he went about freshening himself up, he walked to the training ground that Kakashi had asked to meet at.
Obito looked around and saw no one around so that meant he was the first to arrive. Obito sighed, "It seems that Kakashi is the one who's late this time." He thought to himself.
Shortly Obito heard footsteps from the dirt path, and then Konan was in sight. She looked like she cleaned her clothes and had just dried them. She smiled, "Oh, so I see you're feeling better, Tobi."
Obito went into his Tobi persona, "Yep, Tobi healed enough to train for today."
Konan expected him to heal but not this fast. He must have some secret to healing grievous injuries.
Suddenly a cloud of smoke appeared behind Obito, the two looked at the smoke and waited for it to settle.
Black hair and bushy eyebrows could be seen accompanied by green spandex and orange leg warmers. Might Guy stood in the dissipating smoke, "Welcome back, Tobi!" Guy said boisterously.
Both Tobi and Konan sighed, they were expecting Kakashi, not the noble green beast of the leaf.
"Umm... Where's Kakashi?" Obito asked.
Guy smiled, "Kakashi asked that I train with you guys while he's busy."
"Busy doing what?" Konan asked.
Guy shrugged, "I'm not quite sure. Though he did seem uninterested in whatever he was going to do. But anyways, let's spar. Tobi you can sit this one out if you want, considering you were in the hospital."
Obito stepped forward, "Tobi is more than ready to spar. Just don't be embarrassed when Tobi wins." Obito planned on not using any Sharingan abilities to defeat Guy, mostly to get some revenge on Guy for embarrassing him during the chunin exams.
Guy laughed loudly thanks to Obito's boasting, "My, Tobi you're full of the power of youth! This is gonna be great!"
Konan walked to the side and began watching the sparring session.
Guy took his stance and waited for Tobi to make his first move, he wanted to go easy on him.
Obito did some stretches and then ran forward, flailing his arms around before fumbling and falling onto his face and mask.
Guy backed up to give Tobi some room to get up.
Obito got up by creating a wooden platform that pushed him to the point he was standing, afterwards the wooden platform disappeared.
Guy seemed impressed by the wood style, it was the first time he'd ever seen the First Hokage's Kekkei genkai.
Obito ran at Guy, but this time he didn't fall. He swung his arms fast and hard, he didn't use any taijutsu that he or Madara used. His fists missed Guy but Obito kept his momentum and kept attacking and prevented Guy from performing a counterattack.
At a random interval, Obito head-butted Guy, it stunned him for a bit. Obito used the opening to perform a flurry of punches before kicking Guy away.
Guy held his stomach, he wasn't expecting Tobi to be so frantic and skilled. He began laughing, "Now that's the spirit, Tobi. Using the power of youth to your advantage, but my springtime of youth still isn't over. Eight inner gates..."
"That's enough, Guy. There's no need to go any further," Kakashi's voice could be heard from the clearing.
Everyone turned to Kakashi and saw that he was no longer wearing the Anbu uniform, he was wearing a Jounin uniform.
Obito had a flashback to when Kakashi became Jounin, though he didn't wear the jacket at the time. It was odd seeing Kakashi wearing the Jounin uniform, it almost made him look like Minato-Sensei.
Guy slumped his shoulders, "Well, I guess we'll have to go at it another time then, Tobi."
Tobi fell onto the ground, "And here Tobi wanted to show off his moves."
Kakashi walked towards Konan first, "I see that he's up and moving again. I'm assuming that's thanks to Orochimaru's experimentation then."
"That's what we assumed, he's healed wounds within hours before. This time was longer, probably due to some broken bones." Konan replied. She gave him a curious look, "What's with the new outfit?"
Kakashi just shrugged, "Well, Lord Third thought that my time could be better used elsewhere. Such as creating a new three-man cell and embarking on higher ranked missions considering Tobi's success with Gato."
Obito rolled on the ground until he reached Konan and Kakashi, he bumped into a tree nearby. "Ooh! So, what's our next mission Kakashi-senpai?" He held both of his hands on his chin as he looked up at Kakashi.
Kakashi found the childish nature of Tobi to bring a sense of familiarity to him, it was like Obito returned to him in spirit. Kakashi answered Tobi's question, "Well, now that your sparring with Guy is over, we can get you guys your leaf headbands."
Konan was expecting this as it was only natural for Shinobi representing a village to require them. But Konan did wonder if she would get a flak jacket like Guy and now Kakashi.
Kakashi looked to Guy, "Hey! Thanks for sparring with Tobi."
Guy just shot Kakashi a bright smile and a thumbs up. Konan had never seen teeth that shined quite like his, guessing from his eccentric behavior he probably brushed his teeth to the fullest.
Kakashi started walking away from the training ground, "Come on, you two. We've got to meet with Lord Third to get your headbands."
Konan was about to say something to Tobi but was completely ignored as Tobi ran to catch up with Kakashi, she just sighed. She looked over to Guy, "Goodbye, Guy. I'm sorry you had to babysit us."
Guy just laughed, "No, it's not like that. It was just a simple sparring session. We're all equals, even if you guys weren't born in the Leaf, I believe you guys will learn to take it as your home."
Konan slowly got up, "Of course." She bowed to Guy and then followed after Madara and Kakashi.
During their meeting with the Third Hokage, Obito was very disinterested. He tried just to take a nap while the meeting went on. Konan could feel that Madara was probably bored with the meeting, but someone had to pay attention and give him a heads-up when they received their headbands.
Konan pinched Madara when Hiruzen pulled out two headbands, Obito shot awake and looked forward. Hiruzen held out the two headbands and waited for them to be taken, to which Konan and Obito took one.
Konan adjusted her hair and placed the headband on her forehead, tying the back and securing its spot above her eyes.
Obito was indifferent, he didn't know quite where to place his headband. Then he remembered the rouge Shinobi Hidan and how he had his headband hanging from his neck, Obito would borrow that idea.
Hiruzen looked at Tobi with his headband around his neck, "Do you hide your face because it was disfigured during Orochimaru's experiments?"
Obito nodded slowly to give the impression that there was some trauma behind the mask.
Hiruzen nodded in response, "Very well. If you wish you can use an Anbu mask, but you are not required to." Hiruzen returned his attention to Kakashi, "Kakashi, I'm sure you'll lead them well even though it's been seven years since you've been on a team like this."
"I'll do my best, Lord Third. What is our next mission?" Kakashi asked readily.
Hiruzen knew that Kakashi felt indifferent about having a new team, considering what happened to his last teammates it was understandable. Hiruzen pulled out a scroll and handed it to Kakashi, "There is a matter that involves a small town, the town has gone through many hardships over the last year. From bandits to diseases, from famine to a dried-up well. The people of the town gathered enough funds to hire the leaf to help them with their problems. I've arranged for a fourth Shinobi to help with these endeavors, she's expressed interest in the humanitarian nature of the mission."
Kakashi cringed knowing who the third was going to assign him with.
"You may come in," Hiruzen said to which the door opened and revealed Anko Mitarashi.
She walked in and gave everyone a smile, "Morning guys." She hadn't seen Tobi though, Anko wondered if he was cute underneath that mask.
Surprisingly Obito had never met Anko when he was younger, however, he knew that Anko was Rin's friend at the academy even though she was younger.
Obito waved vigorously at Anko, "Hello, my name's Tobi."
Anko was surprised by the masked man's voice but greeted him nonetheless, "I'm Anko Mitarashi, your guys' aid for the mission. I hope to get to know you better, Tobi." Anko winked at Tobi.
Obito was naturally uncomfortable, "Tobi needs an adult..." His voice was pleading for anyone to intervene.
Anko walked close to Obito and stared up at him, "I am an adult." She whispered seductively.
Kakashi sighed, "Good grief." He felt bad for the poor guy, Anko could be relentless in her pursuit of love.
Konan's cheeks flushed red by the sight, she stepped between the two and chuckled nervously. "Hold on, this is not the time nor place for such flirtations."
Anko backed away laughing playfully, "Alright, I'll comply."
Hiruzen piped in, "The Hokage's office is not the place for romance. So if you could please mozy on out so I can return to my work?"
Everyone bowed to the Hokage and walked out. Obito felt this odd sensation when Konan blocked Anko, it was like two animals fighting for a piece of meat or a territory. Obito hadn't had someone fight over him like that ever, he wondered if it was normal.
A small village near a mountain was the group's destination, it wasn't a full days journey. Only four hours at a solid speed, Obito probably could have gone faster if he went all out.
Once they arrived they separated to help out with each problem the town was facing; Anko dealt with the diseases the town was plagued with, Anko was trained by Orochimaru who taught her how to synthesize antidotes for pretty much any kind of poison. Sure diseases were different than poison, but Anko was the best suited for this of the four of them. Konan was going to help with the crops, she had experience tending to crops during her early years of mercenary work. It was better to get hired to do anything then, but then she had a brightful joy in her life in Yahiko. Kakashi was to help Tobi create a new well, it would be hard for just one to craft a new well considering the unknown terrain of the land.
But unknowingly to Kakashi, Obito could find a water source fast utilizing Kamui, it might not have been wise to use it in case Kakashi picked up on the Sharingan's activation. Thankfully he didn't and they created a well in under two hours, it surely must have been a remarkable feat.
The two then helped Konan tend to the fields, it was their first time working in a field considering they both grew up in a great ninja village. Obito didn't have to play the fool when it came to working with crops, he was truly awful at it. It got so bad Konan began laughing at him and it wasn't quietly.
A farmer had to tell Obito to stop because of how bad he was, it was humiliating but it was needed. Madara's Ghost appeared and considered Obito lucky he wasn't born into farmwork, he would have likely starved to death if he was in charge of crop duty.
The owner of the farm was nice enough to let the four Shinobi stay the night in his barn, it was very cramped but was big enough for bedrolls for each of them.
Kakashi laid on his bedroll and read his book like usual, it bothered Obito because of what Madara said about the book last time.
Obito laid on his bedroll against the wall, he wanted to just sleep and get back to the solitude of his new apartment but alas.
Kakashi could tell that Tobi wasn't comfortable with sleeping, it wasn't in Kakashi's nature to meddle but this was his new teammate and he wanted to share some kindness that he was never able to give his old teammates. "Oi, Tobi. You feeling well?"
Obito rolled to his side facing away from Kakashi, "Tobi is fine, there's no need to worry."
Kakashi closed his book, "Judging by your reaction you're hiding whatever it is that's bothering you. You don't have to tell me, but I know it's eating away at you. I'm here if you ever need anything, not as a superior but as an equal."
Obito was conflicted, Kakashi was smart but never concerned about anyone's well-being, especially mentally. Why did Kakashi have to care about him? It was so agitating.
Kakashi didn't hear a response so he asked Tobi a question, "Well, if you can't sleep why don't you spar with me outside?"
Obito turned over, "Sure." He and Kakashi stood up and opened the barn door, heading outside.
Anko was curious to watch the boys spar, two hot boys sweating in an intense session. What could be better than that? Anko slipped outside to join the two.
Konan sighed, she could just go to sleep or she could join Anko and watch the two spar. As she slipped out, Konan had an idea of her own, "Anko, why don't we spar too?"
Anko turned to Konan a little caught off guard by the question, "Oh, um. Sure."
Kakashi and Obito traveled away from the farm and decided to spar on top of a mountain cliffside. Kakashi held up his right hand with his index and middle finger pointing up, he waited for Tobi to do the same.
Obito mirrored Kakashi, and at the same time, they broke their stance and charged toward each other. Kakashi saw how offensive Tobi was against Guy, so he utilized many taijutsu techniques he'd learned to test Tobi's defense.
Obito on the other hand used both his and Madara's memories to defend himself from Kakashi, though Obito couldn't but throw a counterstrike at Kakashi now and then.
Meanwhile, Konan and Anko decided to spar right outside the barn they were staying in. Anko did a few stretches and got rid of any kinks in her back, "I should warn you that I'm not exceptional at fighting, I'm more of a recon kunoichi."
Konan chuckled, "I am similar yet still different because I specialize in fighting at long range with ninjutsu. I usually rely on any partners to fight up close."
The two then mimicked what Kakashi and Obito did before their spar, and they two rushed each other before impacting each other with kicks.
Kakashi watched as Tobi defended himself with little to no effort, "Just how well trained are you, Tobi?" Kakashi asked.
Obito shrugged, "I learned quite a bit from an old Shinobi."
Kakashi chuckled whilst keeping up with the offense, "I can tell."
Obito wanted the sparring session to end so he let Kakashi break through his defense and punch his mask, it made the crack in the mask bigger. Obito flew back from Kakashi's punch and landed on his back, it reminded him of when they sparred a long time ago, but then they used ninjutsu.
Kakashi walked up to Tobi and held his hand out to help him up, Obito accepted the help and stood to his feet. "That was a fun match, Kakashi-senpai. We should do that more often." Tobi said wiping himself of any dirt.
"If we did it so often we'd probably never have any energy to fight enemies," Kakashi said jokingly.
Tobi looked at Kakashi, "Thank you, senpai. I needed that." Both Tobi and Kakashi shared a moment of silence before both of them laughed nervously, "Guess we should go to sleep, we don't want to keep the bandits waiting." Tobi walked off towards the farm.
Kakashi stayed still for a moment and stared at Tobi, there were many things that didn't make sense to him. Tobi seemed like a fool but underneath all that Kakashi knew that there was something dark about him, that much was certain when Kakashi heard Tobi's deep voice. "Just who are you really, Tobi?" Kakashi thought to himself.
Back with Anko and Konan, Konan won their sparring session but it was not without expending a sizable amount of stamina. Anko lay on the ground defeated, yet she laughed and sat up. "That was fun. You're a strong kunoichi, Konan."
Konan smiled, "You're not too bad yourself. Though I can tell that neither of us is exceptional at taijutsu."
Anko stood up and stretched a little, "I guess it's time to rest. Such a shame, I wanted to continue sparring."
"It's alright, we can train when we return to the Leaf. We'll have plenty of time then." Konan and Anko walked into the barn and lay on their bedrolls, and a few moments later the two boys walked in and did the same.
The next morning was, of course, going to be spent tracking down the bandits nearby. However, to ensure that the bandits wouldn't raid the little town, Obito and Anko stayed behind. Obito just leaned onto a wooden fence near the only dirt path to the town. He was bored and wanted something, anything to free him of his boredom.
Anko walked up to him, "What's wrong, you want to fight some bandits?"
Obito responded a little saddened, "Yeah."
Anko jumped on top of the wooden fence and sat down, "Oh come on. There's more to life than just fighting. Like making friends, how about we do that?"
Tobi adjusted his head, "Sure I guess."
Anko smiled, "Well, how about starting by getting to know each other? Let's ask each other a question and then the other can ask one and we'll repeat. I'll go first. What are your goals in life? What do you aspire to do or be?"
Obito thought for a moment, "Well, I want to be happy. I guess that's all I really want."
Anko wasn't entirely satisfied with his answer, "Being happy is a nice thing to want but what does being happy entail?"
"Hmm. I guess I want to get married to the girl of my dreams and become a respected Shinobi."
Anko smiled with his answer, "Alright, now it's your turn."
Obito adjusted his posture and looked up to the sky, "Hmm. What do you want in life, Anko-senpai?"
She smiled, "I want to get married to the man of my dreams and become a respected kunoichi. Along with ridding the world of my master."
Obito had a slight chuckle, "I guess my dream isn't very unique, huh?"
Anko laughed, "Nah, I'm guessing that's what everyone wants in their hearts. But there are..." She stopped when she started thinking about Kakashi, "...Some people who just live life without any hopes or dreams. Sometimes those people can be frustrating to deal with." Anko closed her eyes and sighed.
A moment later she opened them and turned to Obito, "Are you handsome under that mask?"
Obito was shocked at how bold Anko came off, who just asks a question like that? "Umm. I guess?" Obito wasn't too sure about it himself. After all, the right side of his face was scarred. What girl would love that?
Anko was intrigued by his answer, "Oh? Are you uncertain of your face being attractive to girls?"
Obito was uncomfortable, flustered even. Madara appeared next to Anko, "This girl is very bold. You should be cautious around her, she seems like the type to never take no for an answer." Madara started chuckling, "Obito, maybe you should find yourself a sexual partner. It could help with any frustrations you have."
Obito choked just hearing Madara talk about sex, it was like being told by his grandfather to find a sexual partner. That's one of the last things he'd have ever expected to hear from his dead teacher.
"We'll talk of this later," Obito said aloud in his mind.
Madara took that as his queue to return into the recesses of Obito's mind, "Very well, we'll continue this discussion for another time."
If Anko could tell Obito was nervous she'd probably tease him for it, but luckily she couldn't tell what was going on beneath the mask. "Oh, no reply? Well, I guess I'll take that as a yes on the attractive scale." Anko looked away from Tobi and to the dirt path. She was growing concerned as seven armed men stormed their way to the town, "Oi! Look alive Tobi, we've got company."
Obito straightened up and headed to intercept the group of bandits, Anko followed behind.
The seven bandits stopped when they saw the two hidden Leaf Shinobi in their path. However, they didn't seem deterred, they seemed eager for the challenge.
Anko stepped in front of Obito and tried ending things diplomatically, "Hello, so you fine gentlemen must be the nearby bandits terrorizing this town. Now, we've been tasked to deal with you guys, violence is preferable but we can end your tirade peacefully so no one loses any blood. The choice is yours."
Obito stepped forward, "You'd best listen to her. Or else Tobi will have to resort to violence, and Tobi hates violence."
The bandits looked among each other and then nodded and looked at Anko, "What chance do the two of you have against the seven of us?" One of them asked.
Anko sighed, "They always ask that same question." She moved her left arm out and several snakes erupted from her sleeve.
One of the bandits was bitten several times by her snakes, whether or not they were poisonous was something only Anko would know. But the bandit fell over regardless.
The rest of the bandits staggered backward in fear, the bandit with a bow drew an arrow and readied it at Anko. The arrow flew through the air, Anko was unable to dodge the arrow because she was in the middle of performing hand seals for a wind-style jutsu. The arrow was about to reach Anko's eye when it simply passed through her.
Anko, as well as the bandits, were confused by Anko being unharmed by the arrow. She turned to her right and saw Tobi holding onto her elbow with his left hand.
Obito let go of her and adjusted his mask so that his mouth was visible, performing some hand seals he created a half dome made of wood behind the bandits. Obito performed a few more seals and inhaled deeply before spewing a giant fireball at the bandits, corneeing them and causing the wooden dome to catch on fire. One of the bandits managed to move out of the way of the fireball and decided to rush at Obito with a hatchet.
Obito adjusted his mask while the bandit attempted to lunge at him. Anko finished her hand seals and launched her jutsu, "Wind style: great breach!" A gust of pure air hit the bandit and knocked him back, whatever strength he had was gone and his breath was knocked out of him. The bandit fell to his hands and knees, "Please... ...mercy..."
Obito looked at Anko for she was the true hidden Leaf Shinobi here. Anko sighed, she was bummed that she only got to kill one bandit. "Alright. Just don't you dare think about attacking this place ever again. You got that?!"
The breathless bandit struggled to his feet but he attempted a bow before he was impaled by a bolt of electricity. The lightning crackled as the electrified kunai was thrust out of the bandit's chest. Kakashi stood there with his headband up and with the blazing red Sharingan in his left eye socket, Obito's other Sharingan. He turned his attention to the other bandits, Obito was able to turn the half dome into a full dome with just a thought. The three Shinobi watched as the bandits were being burned alive in the wooden dome. Two of the bandits were burned into ash on impact, while the other three were both suffocating and burning inside the dome.
As the screaming and agony could no longer be heard, Obito dispelled the wood dome and was met with the sight of charred bodies.
Anko seemed annoyed with Kakashi, which he took notice of, "Hey! I already promised that he'd be spared, you didn't have to go and kill him."
Kakashi shrugged, "He was a bandit. Scum like them don't get to be spared."
"Regardless you made it seem like I have no integrity," Anko refuted.
Kakashi just walked into the town, "Eh, no harm no foul. Let's just inform the town that the bandits have been dealt with and return to the Leaf."
Anko seemed like she was going to huff smoke at Kakashi for just blowing her off like that, she was probably going to give him a piece of her mind later. She followed after him to go and pack up her bedroll.
Konan soon appeared from the dirt path, her eyes were directed to the dead bandits. She walked in Madara's direction, "What happened here?"
"Two of Anko's jutsus and a simple fireball, the bandits had no chance to counterattack," Obito said in his Madara voice.
"I would expect nothing less from you, my Lord," Konan said as she walked past him.
Obito followed too but there was something on his mind, Madara's weird idea. And as if Madara could sense that Obito was thinking about him, "Well Obito, that was eventful. But you used your Mangekyou to save Mitarashi. You could have created a wooden wall to protect her instead. Very sloppy on your part."
"Leave me alone," Obito muttered under his breath.
Madara didn't listen, "Why would I leave you alone when we haven't finished our conversation from earlier."
Obito sighed, "I don't wish to continue that conversation."
Madara huffed in laughter, "What, are you uncomfortable with the topic of sex? It should be natural that you're supposed to be interested in it at your age. Yet you're not. I assume it's because of the past."
Obito narrowed his eye at Madara, "Why do you care so much about me having a partner?"
Madara decided to comply, "The book your friend Kakashi reads. It has given me... ...thoughts of sexual intercourse. And seeing as my soul is bound to you... I wish to see it for myself."
Obito began to burst out laughing, he was unprepared for Madara Uchiha, the former rival to the First Hokage, to watch him have intercourse. "You want me to endanger the eye of the moon plan just because you read Kakashi's make-out paradise? That doesn't seem very much like you."
Madara didn't find it funny compared to Obito, he made his annoyance known. "You have the Sharingan, so you wouldn't be endangering the infinite Tsukoyomi if you just erased the memory from whomever you decide to have intercourse with. It would mean a great deal to me if you accepted my request."
Obito looked forward to Konan far ahead of him, "You can have that experience after Nagato revives you. I will not be your guinea pig to experience things you couldn't in life."
Madara frowned, "Very well, I'll respect your decision. But do not mistake this as defeat, it is merely a tactical retreat. Sooner or later you'll have sexual thoughts, and I'll be waiting."
"Uck, can you sound any more creepy?" Obito said.
Madara seemed irritated, "You know what I meant."
"Doesn't make it any less creepy," Obito replied.
Madara seemed so irritated that he demanifested and left Obito alone, for now. Obito was relieved, he was very uncomfortable with the whole thing. He could never imagine himself doing anything sexual with anyone until he entered his infinite Tsukoyomi dream. Then there would be no limits to anything his mind could cobble up.
Obito closed his eye for a moment just thinking about his dream, he would finally be at peace.
