Chapter 25

"How long do we need to wait for this to work?" Hippolyta asked once Lyla had injected what they hoped would be the cure to Marie's problems.

"My source says fairly quickly but we may still need J'onn and Nia's help. From what I understand, Marie is using some sort of Amazon mind trick?" The leader of ARGUS wasn't sure what it could be. She had yet to have full cooperation from the Amazons and truth be told, she never felt she needed it. They had a code, swore an oath, and had yet to give anyone the hint that they'd break it.

"Yes. She kept repeating the message in Ancient Greek. Kara sent it to Diana," Nia explained before handing the Queen her phone. The message was in the secure messaging app.

"She may not have been born an Amazon, but she has the heart of one. She owes no one an apology. If anything, I owe her one," Hippolyta said. Their conversation was interrupted by the sound of the elevator. Not sure who it could be, Nia turned her focus to the lift and its opening doors. Lyla was right there with her.

"You guys nearly gave me a heart attack," the brunette said as M'gann, Nyssa, and Kelly exited the elevator.

"Sorry. We think that everything is secure at Obsidian North. Kate helped us out," Nyssa said.

"The real Kate?" Nia wasn't sure how since M'gann had been pretending to be the Gothamite.

"She put us in touch with Luke and I made it look like I had to take some important phone calls during the day. Luke could find no worms or viruses inside Obsidian North's system. It would seem that all the intrusions were by physical means," M'gann explained.

"Well done. We've got teams looking for Enigma but I'd say that your part is done. Kara and Alex recovered Mary. They're at ARGUS now," Lyla spoke up.

"You think Enigma just quit and left town?" Kelly raised an eyebrow.

"Hardly. She didn't get what she wanted and her plan was blown up. Somehow that has never stopped her before though. She'll regroup and probably pop up somewhere else very soon. We still aren't entirely sure why she wanted her way into the planet protector system project in the first place. She wanted the current one being built to be sabotaged but then wanted the plans. Now, to me that means she's spying for someone, or is trying to figure out how to make one on her own," the leader of ARGUS said.

"Selling the plans to a country that isn't inside of NATO, say like Russia, would get her a pretty penny and the rest of the planet be damned," Nyssa spoke up. They were interrupted by a loud gasp for air, which made them focus on Marie. The woman's eyes were wide.

"What is going on?" Hippolyta demanded. The medical equipment alerted them that Marie's pulse was quickening.

"Grab as many ice packs as you can!" Kelly jumped in. While not a medical doctor, she still had some emergency training from her time in the Army. M'gann flew to the freezer nearby and grabbed a bunch of the ice packs inside. Kelly instructed them to put them on Marie's face and chest.

"It's slowing but it makes me nervous," the psychologist said.

"It could be a side effect of the antidote. Let me make a call," Lyla said. Hippolyta stepped in and started to whisper something into Marie's ear and Nia could see the woman visibly relax. Kelly quickly told the others to remove the ice packs.

"I… I…" Marie stuttered like she couldn't get the words out once the ice packs were gone.

"Rest daughter. You are safe. The vest did not detonate. You saved many people," the Queen told her, taking her hand. Marie squeezed it, like her life depended on it.

"She needs intravenous fluids," Kelly said before heading for the equipment across the room. Nyssa went to help her.

"My source says lots of fluids and food as soon as you can. I guess the munchies can be a thing with some patients. Kara is interrogating Mary as we speak and it seems that she's playing hard to get," Lyla told them once she got off the phone.

"Does Kara need some assistance?" Nyssa wondered. The Super Friends knew the former League of Assassins leader had her ways of making people talk.

"You know what? I think she might," Lyla smirked. Nia's phone rang and she quickly answered it. It wasn't a long phone call and she thanked the caller before hanging up. She jerked her head to the side and Hippolyta nodded in understanding. What Nia had to say wasn't something that Marie needed at the moment.

"What happened?" M'gann whispered after the group moved aside.

"Agent Smith is out of surgery but it's still touch and go. J'onn is not sure he should inject the antidote," Nia explained.

"I wouldn't. We don't know how it will affect him. Marie wasn't suffering from a life-threatening injury," Lyla told her.

"I'll call him. You guys go see if we can't get something from Mary," Nia said.
