Kenny wakes, feeling a bit heavy. There was a dream he had that night, but can't recall it. Something about it left a strange faint weight in his chest though, but he figured that maybe it was just the takeout food from yesterday not settling so well with his gut.

It takes a few more minutes of waking from his grogginess till he remembers that he now had a job to get to and hurries to get ready. Having looked into a proper route for how to get there and back, he only now needed to worry about actually getting dressed fast and out the door.

Not 10 minutes pass, before he's ready and headed on his way. He manages to make it there just in time and is stationed to work right away. Still a bit nervous but not completely unconfident in what he was doing, he manages to make his way through the work day. He was still somewhat surprised that he even managed to get the job in the first place. When doing the interview, the manager seemed not interested in most of what he had to say, until he brought up the fact that he had helped with working on cars before and their expression shifted subtly into another. He guessed helping to fix up his friends and parents' cars over the years, seemed to pay off.

Dusk settles in by the time Kenny is off work and headed back home. Deciding to take a more scenic route, he passes through a park near his area and enjoys the scenery. It's quiet, for the most part. Said for the laughter of a child with their small family and the occasional passerby of a stranger either on their phone or walking their dog, it was peaceful here. Taking in the sunset dyed trees and nice airy breeze, he makes a mental note to himself that this is a nice option to take home after any future stressful days he may have at work.

By the time Kenny gets home, he heads straight for the kitchen in search of some food for dinner. He'd been starving all day since he skipped eating breakfast and forgot to bring anything for lunch.

"There's some leftovers in the fridge."

Kenny turns around to find Stan now leaning in the doorway.

"Oh, that's right," Kenny murmurs and turns back around, "thanks for the reminder."

"How was your first day?"

"It was alright," Kenny replies, taking out a container from the fridge, and pouring its contents onto a plate.

"Not too bad?"

"Nope. Got a good hang of it as the day went on I think."

"That's good."

"Yup," Kenny nods, to the pop of the microwave door closing. It hums to life once the timer is set and he leans on the counter next to it. "So how was your day?"

"Uneventful. But that will probably be changed pretty soon."

"You looking forward to it?"

"I guess," Stan shrugs.

Kenny offers a small smile and the two exchange some more small talk before the microwave beeps.

"Anyways, enjoy the food man," Stan says, taking his leave so the other can enjoy his meal.

"Thanks," Kenny replies with a chuckle.

He grabs his food and a fork then heads off to the dining area to eat.

While eating, he mulls over some thoughts about his new job, going over how to be more efficient at it and future routines he could do for it as well. His thoughts wander as do his eyes, they scan the room and fall onto an empty chair set up at the end table across from him. He takes another bite of food, glancing back down at it briefly before glancing back up at the chair. He stops chewing for a moment when he thinks he spots something in the corner of his vision, but when he does a quick look around and finds nothing he goes back to chewing and his thoughts of work.

Once done he washes his plate and heads to his room. He spends the rest of the day playing a game in his room, till he has to sleep for another work filled day.

For the next few days, Kenny adjusts to his new job. For the most part, he's able to get the hang of things quite quickly and finds his routine at his new workplace. It helped that the job wasn't too hectic and had nice periods in between with no customers as well. He liked it, he found, the place gave decent pay and he didn't feel so useless being stuck at home without work anymore. The thought of paying rent no longer was at the forefront of his mind and he could now focus on other tasks instead.

One late night while watching T.V in the living room, Stan arrives back home, seeming quite tired from a long day at his new work.

"Hey Stan," Kenny greets him.

"Hey," Stan greets back as he removes his boots.

"Long day?"

"Yup," Stan replies, then heads for the stairs.

"Not going to eat?"

"Nope, too tired, I'm heading to bed."

There's a small chuckle from Kenny as hears Stan go up the stairs. He'd thought to ask Stan to join him for a movie he rented on stream, but figured it was best to let him be when seeing how tired the other looked. He'd also thought of asking Kyle as well, but was promptly turned away before he could, as Kyle had told him not to bother him because he wanted to prepare for his upcoming classes and get ahead in the subject material. Kenny couldn't help the eye roll he gave in response to that, but let him be. He figured that once he knew their schedules better, he could ask them on their day off or something.

A few more hours pass before Kenny himself decides that he should probably get to bed as well, and heads upstairs. He makes his way to the bathroom first, needing to take a leak and brush his teeth. Once done he lets out a yawn and flicks the light off. He makes his way across the hall to his bedroom, but something catches his eye and he stops. At first he isn't sure what it is, as it's too dark and the street lights from outside didn't help much. He squints trying to focus on what he's seeing more but it's still hard to tell.

"Stan?" he asks when making out what he thinks is the silhouette of someone standing at the end of the hall in front of the window.

No response.

"Kyle?"

Still nothing.

It seemed too short really to be either of his friends and he figures that maybe it's just some optical illusion from the street lights or something and decides to just continue on into his room.

When the next day comes and he wakes, there's an ache in his bones. With a groan he sits up and checks the time. When he sees what day it is on his phone, he lies back down with a sigh. It was his first day off from his job. He thinks of going back to sleep for a while but decides against it in the end, not wanting to mess up his schedule for when he has to wake for work the following day. So after his small internal debating about it, he gets up and heads for the bathroom to wake more.

While walking to the bathroom, his gaze travels down the hall and the image from last night plays out in his head. He looks to where he thought he saw the small silhouette of something standing, trying to figure out what the light could have been hitting to make such an effect, but finds nothing that could have made such a thing. Maybe he was more tired than he thought he was. With a yawn he continues on his way to the bathroom.

Once done he heads downstairs and looks for something to eat. He finds Stan and Kyle up already, one in the dining room and the other watching T.V. This was their short downtime before they had to head off for the day to their jobs. Kenny finds some cereal and grabs a bowl. Once he has his food he heads into the dining room and takes a seat at the table. Kyle seems none too pleased with that however, as he still seemed to be studying or reading over something in preparation for his classes starting the upcoming week.

"Can you not do that here?" Kyle asks.

"Dude, this is the dining room," Kenny replies.

"Yeah but," Kyle says and motions to his papers.

"Your classes haven't even started yet," Kenny tells him, to which Kyle just gives a pointed look in response, "fine I'll move," Kenny sighs and stands with his bowl.

He makes his way over to the living room where Stan is seated on the couch and sits next to him.

"Hey man," Stan greets.

"Hey," Kenny says back.

"He kick you out of the dining room?" Stan asks, nodding in Kyle's direction.

"Yup," Kenny replies, taking a bite of food.

Stan shakes his head and turns his attention back to the T.V, the two of them watch it for a while and exchange some small talk before Stan and Kyle have to leave for work. Their jobs started around the same time, so Stan usually just offered to drop Kyle off first before heading over to his job afterwards.

Kenny debates on how to spend his day off, he thinks of maybe taking a walk but in the end decides to just head upstairs to his room and play some games.

A few hours pass of this, him playing away and relaxing, but his focus on gaming comes to a pause when an odd small sound catches his attention. It's consistent, like some kind of tapping. He tries to ignore it at first and continues on, but it doesn't stop, eventually he decides to check it out. Wondering where it's coming from, he leaves his room to investigate it.

He exits into the hall and looks around, trying to pinpoint the location of it. Searching the hall, he follows the sound until it's at its loudest. His gaze glances up and trails along the attic door. Confusion crosses his features as to why the sound is coming from there. A hand reaches for the door handle and before he even touches it, the tapping sound stops. He pauses, more confusion crosses him, but slowly his hand starts to move again and he grabs the handle. The door opens with a small creak and his gaze follows the stairs leading up.

His gaze lingers at the top of the stairs and his brows furrow when he thinks he can make out something there in the shadows. He flicks the light switch, but there's no light. He curses quietly to himself over the fact it still had yet to be changed before retreating to his room and grabbing a flashlight. When he comes back to the door yet again, he turns it on and shines its beam up the stairs. There's nothing there. Of course there wasn't anything, why would there be? They never even went up to the attic to place anything in it. He lets out a small chuckle at himself with the shake of the head. Still though, he couldn't help but wonder where that sound was coming from up there.

Figuring that since he finally has a light to look around the dark attic, he decides to head up the stairs and take a look anyway.

The old wooden steps creak under his weight as he makes his way up them. When he reaches the top, he scans the area with his light. There was still nothing. He almost feels reassured by it until his light finds an old wooden nightstand with a small lamp placed upon it.

Kenny stares at the old furniture, wondering why it's there and who it belonged to. He goes to take a step towards it to investigate, but stops when his flashlight starts to flicker. It only flickers a few more times before it goes out.

"Could've sworn I changed the batteries," he mutters.

He hits the flashlight a few times in an attempt to get it to work again, but to no avail. It's only when he glances around for the stairway back down, does he realize that he's in complete darkness in the windowless room. Despite being sure that he had left the attic door open. Figuring it must have just swung close on its own from being on an angle or something, he slowly tries to make his way back to the stairs. He only makes it two steps before the sound of a soft tap causes him to freeze. At least he thinks it was a tap, his foot had caused a floorboard under him to creak, so maybe it hadn't been. The light in his hand comes back to life then and he examines the flashlight with puzzlement. The sudden loud sound of something instantly pulls his attention away with a jump and he quickly aims the light at its source.

It was the lamp. But it was now on the floor. He stares at it with utter confusion, but only briefly before his eyes are drawn back to his flashlight starting to flicker again. It's enough to prompt him to quickly head for the stairs and make his exit out of the attic. He had explored it enough for one day, his thoughts told him. When he reaches the door, he doesn't even fully register that he has to actually turn the handle of it to leave, rather than push it open, until he makes it back to his room. Only then does he find it even more odd how he hadn't heard it shut behind him at all.

Once Kenny calms more, he places the flashlight down and lies down onto his bed with a sigh. Feeling tired, despite having slept in that day. The sun shines brightly across his bed through the window and he shuts his eyes. The warmth of the sun helps relax him more and he almost feels as if he could drift off to sleep. But something causes the sunlight to flicker in his closed vision for a quick moment and he opens his eyes again, not catching what it was.

He only remains lying for a few more moments, before he decides to get back up and head out for that walk after all.
