Ever since Garmadons first few attacks, he's had an overwhelming grudge against the overlord. When the first few attacks started, around when he was in 7th grade, one attack caused him to lose his parents, being forced to live with his aunt. That alone was bad enough, but with the assaults to the city happening once a week minimum for the past 3 years? No wonder he couldn't even look at his sister without resenting Garmadon.
This brings attention to the fact he was currently sitting in the same classroom as Lord Garmadons son. He knew the guy was attending Ninjago High, but the fact that the teachers put him in the same class as him? He's lucky he hasn't snapped his pencil in half yet, and it was only the first half hour of an hour and a half period of Language Arts. He couldn't help it, burning holes in the back of the kids head, but the overwhelming urge to strangle him was pulling at him in such a tempting way. Yes, the kid wasn't Lord Garmadon, but he was still tied to him. Who knew if he'd become some crazy overlord like his dad? He'd seen a group of teenagers harrassing the guy earlier, which genuinely surprised him. The guts some people had, especially with taunting the son of the city's worst enemy, who probably had some contact with his son in some way. He may hate anything and everything related to Garmadon but even he wasn't stupid enough to throw hands with one of his relatives.
"Kai Smith?" The teacher called out, having an oldschool clip board with the attendance attached to it. He snapped out of his thoughts when he heard his name, rolling his eyes before lazily raising a hand, waiting for her to go back to writing on the attendance to drop his hand back onto the table.
He could tell by how a lot of the kids in the room physically appeared that some of them were probably too young to be in the class, which meant he was in a room with a bunch of young teenagers who know LA well enough they got to skip a grade or two. Great, I guess I'm going to be shown up by some smart-shoe idiots, he huffed to himself, noting that the Garmadon-kid appeared to be amongst the group of 'younger' teens in the room. That made him sour, but he couldn't dwell on it much due to the teacher finishing up attendance, standing up to address todays activities. It was going to be a looooooong day.
Loud. It was so loud. He had never been in a cafeteria so full or noisy in his life. Everything sounded like it was echoing, and with his sensitive ears he was quickly embracing a headache. Putting his hands over his ears didn't really help either. He squeezed his eyes shut as he tried to drown out the noise, feeling his hands go numb again from the stress. He felt a hand rest on his shoulder, causing him to jump as he snapped his head to look up.
"You ok there bud? Wanna find somewhere quieter to sit?" Cole had his wallet in his offhand, having asked Jay to accompany him to grab something from the cafeteria.
"Y-you can get y-your food.. i-it's ok.." He muttered, not intentding it to be as quiet as it was.
"Hey, I'm still gonna grab some grub, but we don't have to sit in the cafeteria. There's probably places like the roof we can go to find a lot less chatter," He shrugged as he spoke.
"U-uhm... s-sure.."
"Alright, then just meet me out that door over there," Cole pointed to the cafeteria exit. "I'll meet you there when I'm done, I shouldn't take too long unless some idiot holds up the line," Jay nodded at this, reluctantly leaving to go wait for Cole.
He didn't have any money on him, but he had agreed with his sister to meet in the cafeteria, so here he was, marching down the hallways to get to the noisy conjunction of teenagers. He had both of his last classes with the Garmadon-kid, so his mood was less than enthusiastic. His classes were excruciatingly boring, running over the curriculum a thousand times like it was some pledge to loyalty or something.
He was so lost in his agitation he didn't notice the door pull open in front of him, nor the person walking out of the cafeteria. Both of them collided into each other, being knocked out of his thoughts as he stumbled backwards. The other, with a yelp, fell onto the floor completely, looking up at him with wide eyes before scrambling back up.
"S-sorry! I-" He began, before Kai cut him off.
"No, don't, I would have ran into the door itself anyways," He grumbled, getting a flinch from the other.
"You're awful jumpy aren't you," He looked the shorter one over, noting how apparent the freckles on his face were, coupling his vibrant blue eyes full of anxiety. He flinched when it was mentioned, immediately breaking out in a sweat.
"I-I, u-uhm.." He looked almost panicked, like he was going to do something to him..
"Hey, chill, it was just an observation, I ain't gonna hit you or anything for it," Kai raised his two hands up before putting them back in his pockets. This seemed to calm the other guy down, but not by much.
"Wellll... you areee..?" The smaller one blinked, before stuttering again.
"U-uh, J-Jay.." A curly lock of hair fell in front of his face as he spoke.
"Jay... not a bad name, Kai," He extended a hand out to Jay, who took it cautiously. They shook hands before Kai eyed the doors to the cafeteria, narrowing them at the noise.
"Lord, and I thought the middle school cafeteria's got loud," He grimaced.
"Y-yeah... I-I don't really l-like the noise much..." Jay agreed, although rather quietly.
"You waitin' on someone?" The other just nodded.
"Heh, yeah, I gotta go into that hell hole to find my sister," Jay looked up at him with a sympathetic look.
"Sh-she isn't outside..?"
"Unfortunately, unless I call her since she doesn't usually respond to texts. I doubt in that preschool of a cafeteria she'll hear her phone ringing though, so I gotta venture the tidal wave of pushy smelly entitled teenagers," This got a hum from Jay, a smile creeping on his face.
"Th-that... I l-like that analogy.." He commented, looking slightly amused. Kai shot him a grin at that.
"You ain't so bad, tell you what, I'll give you my number and once I find my sister we could hang out for the period?" Jay looked surprised at this.
"U-uh... sure..?" He pulled his phone out of his pocket.
"D-do I just...?" He looked like he didn't know whether to hand it to him or just type it himself.
"Don't worry, I ain't gonna snoop, I'll just.." He gently took the phone from Jay, punching in his number into the contacts before handing it back. "Send me a text, I'll see if I get it," He then pulled his own phone out. Jay looked down at his phone, typing something out. He then got a ping on his end, opening it to see a simple wave emoji from an unknown number.
"Yep! Got it, alrighty then Jay, I'll text you when I got my sister and you just give me the location to meet," He gave a lazy salute to Jay before pushing open the doors to the cafeteria, momentarily holding them open for someone else with a tray as he made his way into the crowd.
Another person??? I-I didn't think people- well, were actually going to want to hang out.. Jay watched the boy, Kai, walk into the cafeteria with a baffled expression. He was quick, though, to notice Cole walking through the doors with a tray of food in his hands, who looked a bit agitated.
"The least they could do is have a cafeteria lady who doesn't just insult everyone she looks at, I get it that she probably takes insults every other day when on duty but she did not have to make a rude and uncalled for comment on my freaking hair style over me politely pointing out she grabbed the wrong flavour of gatorade, for crying out loud," He rambled, before giving Jay a smile.
"Wanna try the roof? Heard some chatter saying there was quite a nice view up there," Jay liked the sound of that, the school was a bit stuffy so some fresh air was more than welcome.
"Y-yeah, sure... a-also... I-I guess two others are j-joining..?" Cole tilted his head at this.
"Makin' more friends while waiting for me? Told you it wasn't a big deal," He chuckled, heading off towards the stairwell. Jay quickly followed him.
"Y-yeah, uhh, apparently the guy's name is K-Kai, a-and he's bringing his s-sister. He gave me his number a-and told me to text him th-the spot s-so.."
"There you go! I'd be fine having some others join, doesn't hurt to have a group so long as it isn't an annoying one," He joked, making Jay smile.
Having people to talk to really isn't that bad...
