ACT 2

INT – TERMINAL DOGMA LCL POOL

ZERA floats nude in LCL. EARL approaches. ZERA swims to him, and stands before him.

EARL

The time has come. This is the

day for which you were born, Zera.

EARL holds out his hand. The embryo of Adam is growing there. ZERA looks at the disfigured fetus and tentatively takes his hand.

EXT – MORNING STAR TOPSIDE

The EVA series, flying like buzzards around the BETA unit, descend, land and encircle the BETA unit. Each hideous, white painted, alien Evangelion carries a swallow bladed sword with a peculiar helix handle.

INT – BETA UNIT

AMANDA
Of course he couldn't bring himself

to say it. I should have guessed.

The BETA unit blows off its' umbilical cable and activates its' prog knife.

AMANDA

Alright. Nine of you? That's fine.

I can take you all down in just over

thirty seconds and be done with time

to spare. Goddamn did you catch me

in a bad mood.

AMANDA screams and charges. The BETA unit spikes the nearest angel in the face which explodes in blood, gore and brains. The BETA unit raises the carcass of the EVA and rends it asunder christening itself in the EVAs' blood.

AMANDA

Erste.

INT – BASE SHAFT

JACOB descends, hovering into the base. Close up on his ambivalent expression.

EXT – MORNING STAR

The beta unit charges at another of the EVA series, crashes it into the lake and crushes its' skull. The beta unit trudges from the lake and attacks another of the EVA series with its' prog knife. AMANDA screams. The beta unit stabs the EVA in the skull, but it comes to pieces. AMNADA sneers, reloads the blade to attack the next EVA to slash off the EVAs' arm, but the blade is now destroyed and the EVA gets a grip on the BETA unit. The Beta unit gets to the back of the eva and breaks its' neck. AMANDA looks up in time to see another of the EVA series leaping into the air, sword drawn. The Beta unit rolls away in time and seizes a fallen sword. AMANDA roars into battle, parrying the EVAs' next attack before burying the blade of the sword into the EVA. The Beta unit is charged into by the next EVA. With a bloodthirsty piercing glare, AMANDA unleashes a giant nail cannon from the EVA's right faring, firing twice into the EVA's skull.

AMANDA

Of course I can't depend on Shane

to play the hero today. But I

don't need him to take you down!

INT – TERMINAL DOGMA

The gravity sled carrying SHANE comes to a stop at the bottom of the shaft. SHANE drops to his knees and screams in despair, as he knows SONYA is dead. This is a long, tall corridor like a vaulted cathedral. In one direction SHANE can see the outlines of three people. RACHEL, EARL and ZERA. SHANE then turns to see the Alpha unit at the the other end of the hall, gritting his teeth, he runs to the EVA as fast as he can.

INT – THE GREAT CHAMBER

The giant angel, fallen face down into the lake of LCL. EARL and ZERA enter to see RACHEL standing at the side of the lake.

RACHEL

It's useless, Earl. I've already

reprogrammed the MAGI to follow my

exclusive commands.

RACHEL turns, draws the gun, pointing it at EARL. She produces a PDA that is ready to launch the self-destruct system for the entire base.

RACHEL (CTD)

What do you say, Mom? We killed

you, so you kill us? That's fair.

RACHEL shuts her eyes and hits the switch on the self-destruct system.

A pause.

Nothing happens.

RACHEL (CTD)

What? It's not possible.

RACHEL looks at the display, dropping the gun. The display reads. "CASPAR override of self-destruct. Priority: Commander Eastman"

RACHEL (CTD)

Mother…After all he's done to

us? You'd choose your lover over

your own daughter? You still won't

stop him?

EARL

Could you?

RACHEL looks at EARL, helpless in his eyes, drops the PDA. EARL draws a gun.

EARL (CTD)

Dr. Archbold…Rachel. I truly…

couldn't have done this without

you.

RACHEL takes in her total defeat.

RACHEL

Liar.

EARL fires. RACHEL tumbles backwards into the lake and as she falls, sees a ghost of ZERA. She dies, floating away in the blood of the angel.

INT – TERMINAL DOGMA HALL

SHANE gets to the base of the ALPHA units' scaffold and climbs the emergency ladder

EXT – MORNING STAR

The beta unit smashes an EVA series into a building, crushes its' head. Inside the BETA unit is a list of the nine targets, all but one has gone red and designated terminated.

AMANDA

There's nothing to stop me now.

Least of all you idiots!

AMANDA turns to see the last EVA standing some distance away. The timer for her activation is down to 30 seconds.

AMANDA

What are you waiting for?

On the list of targets, the colors start to flicker on to green. AMANDA does not notice. The BETA unit tosses the corpse of the crushed EVA into the standing EVA and rises to charge the EVA. The Beta unit punches through the corpse of the dead EVA and into the core of the standing EVA. BETA unit crushes the core and as the EVA dies, its hands paw the face of the BETA unit before going limp.

With a ferocious sneer, AMANDA stands above the slain EVA, not seeing that behind her one of the fallen EVAs' arms have lifted from its' death. As if by command, one of the swords leaps into the EVAs' hand. The helix handle of the sword morphs the entire sword into a spear of Longinus. The EVA throws the spear with such force that it blows over its' own limp corpse. The spear strikes through the AT field the beta unit and into its' lower back.

AMANDAs' body burst in a spray of blood. AMANDA screams.

INT – TERMINAL DOGMA HALL

SHANE enters the plug of the EVA and activates the EVA.

SOS as everyone realizes that the ALPHA unit is active. EARL, ZERA, JACOB, WINTERS, AMANDA and lastly the FIELD COMMANDER realize that the end has come.

EXT – MORNING STAR

The Beta unit collapses to its' knees. Inside the EVA, AMANDA sees SHANE appear before her.

SHANE

Amanda? Are you OK?

SHANE puts his hand on AMANDAs' face.

AMANDA

Shane, you got to the EVA. Good. What

are you going to do?

SHANE

I can help, Amanda. What do

you need?

AMANDA
Is the angel gone?

SHANE

Don't worry about that! I

need you. You have to tell

me, what do you want me to do?

AMANDA

Shane, you idiot!

The EVA series reanimate and rise from their fallen state.

INT - BASE

AUTUMN sees the EVAs reactivating on her computer.

AUTUMN

Oh, my god. The EVAs are

coming back online.

EXT – MORNING STAR

The EVA series pick up their swords which become helix lances before the lot of them take to the sky, circling the Beta unit.

INT – BETA UNIT

AUTUMN (V.O.)

Amanda! Get out of there.

Eject! Eject!

AMANDA kills the communication feed.

AMANDA
I'll keep them busy.

SHANE

Anything you need, Amanda,

I'm here.

AMANDA

When will you ever learn Shane?

This isn't about us.

SHANE

Listen if it means-

AMANDA

Whatever happens, you make it

happen or I hope I never see you

again!

SHANE
But what if-

AMANDA pushes SHANE away and he vanishes. AMANDA looks up and her left eye explodes in blood.

The beta unit is struck with a spear in its' head. AMANDA screams. The power drains out of the Beta unit. AMANDA struggles to activate, revving the handles and crying in panic as blood streams from her skull. The EVA series surround the BETA unit and lumber forth like jackals before laying their hands on the BETA unit and sinking their teeth in.

INT – BASE

AUTUMN

The Beta unit is out of power.

JEFF

Oh my god. How is she?

AUTUMN screams and throws the PC away.

EXT – MORNING STAR

The EVA series feast on the carcass of the BETA unit before flying into the air and circling once more.

INT – BETA UNIT

AMANDA blocks the blood flow from her eye, and forces the Beta unit to reactivate. She reaches into the circle of the EVA series in the sky. The Beta unit feebly reaches upward.

AMANDA
I'll kill you. I'll kill you.

I'll kill you.

AMANDAs' arm splits in half.

The arm of the Beta unit is bisected by a spear. A rain of spears follow suit and repeatedly skewer the Beta unit into oblivion.

INT – ALPHA UNIT

SHANE is trapped in shock.

AUTUMN (V.O.)

Shane! Amanda! She's…She's

SHANE cuts the communication feed. He cannot internalize what has just happened.

SHANE

Jacob. Jacob. What the hell

man? It can't be this. No.

You son of a bitch.

SHANE grabs the handles of the EVA and begins to break out of the restrataints, which are much beefier here than above in the cage. SHANE screams.

INT – TERMINAL DOGMA

EARL and ZERA

EARL removes his glove. ZERAs' arm undoes itself and falls to the ground.

EARL

Your AT filed is giving out.

I knew that would happen if

I brought you here but we

have no options. They are

coming. Now you must take me

to Nadine. This is why you

were born, Zera. Accept me.

EARL opens his palm, revealing the embryo of an angel. ZERA closes her eyes. EARL places the embryo on Zeras' chest. ZERA can feel it entering her. She grits her teeth.

JACOB hovers down the hall toward the final gate. JACOB moves to ZERA and EARL.

ZERA

Hello, again.

EARL (looking away)

What?

ZERA strikes EARL and as EARL falls away and when this happens, ZERA absorbs EARLs arm into her.

ZERA

I am not your puppet.

EARL

What have you done? Zera?

ZERAs' arm regrows and she floats upward to face JACOB.

JACOB

I told you this is why we are

here. Now we can bring

silence to the chaos of humanity

ZERA opens her hand, upon which emerges the embryo.

ZERA

The way of Adam? Perhaps.

That's not for us to decide.

JACOB

Then whom?

The Alpha unit crashes down the corridor, and its blazing eyes pierce the darkness. EARL gets to his feet. In front of him appears a ghost of ZERA. He turns and sees NADINE standing with YOUNG ZERA.

NADINE

To think, Earl…You came this far

to lose me.

EARL shakes his head and runs to the EVA unit. The ghosts vanish without fanfare and without a trace. JACOB looks at the EVA, then back at ZERA.

JACOB

There's nothing he can do.

Without-

ZERA shows her palm to JACOB.

JACOB (CTD)

Wait…

ZERA

Through death and into rebirth.

JACOB

If that is Adam, then who?

(Jacob looks at the fallen angel in the LCL)

Lilith! I understand now. Oh,

what a terrible mix up!

You'd think such a thing could

never happen in a billion years!

ZERA

Yet, here we are.

JACOB

Then what about me?

ZERA

He will decide. For what it's

worth you being here was a good thing.

I'm glad I had something to do today.

ZERA floats backwards. The great angel arizes from the LCL and opens its' arms in front of the cross. ZERA closes her eyes floating up the giant angel, Lilith.

ZERA

I'm back.

SUBTITLE

Welcome home.

The Angel plants newly grown legs into the LCL with a splash. ZERA looks coldly downward at EARL.

EARL

Shane!

The EVA unit runs to ZERA and JACOB.

EARL (CTD)

Zera has betrayed us! We have

to stop her before she starts the

third impact. You have to save

the instrumentality project

Shane or else everyone will-

EARL is stomped flat by the EVA that continues on and grasps JACOB.

SHANE

You bastard! What are you

thinking?

Lilith raises her hand and the ALPHA unit is shot into the sky up a shaft of light through the hole made by the lance of longinous. The EVA hovers in the sky below the lance and the EVA series seeing it fly upward to encircle it.

JACOB

We made it, Shane. You did it.

SHANE
No. I haven't done anything.

Don't fuck with me. Not now.

JACOB

I am the last angel, Shane.

If you defeat me then all

of mankind can find rebirth

through you.

SHANE

That's not what I'm here for!

JACOB

That's the only reason you

are here. You may hate the

world, you may hate yourself

but your choice is clear,

change the world, change

yourself or die.

SHANE

I don't have to do shit!

JACOB

Then you will die! I don't

want that. Between the two

of us, of what I know about

you and what I have come

to understand about you then

what you do will make the

world I would want to survive.

SHANE

Do you know what you are asking?

JACOB

This world was meant to be mine,

to belong to the angels. Something

went wrong, Lillith landed here as

well. From her came you, and all

your kind.

SHANE

What does this have to do with

JACOB

The light of every soul of Lilith,

your very mind cries this upon you!

SHANE

Jacob...What about you?

JACOB

The gates of heaven will wait

no longer. She is on her way.

If I'm still here then it's over

for you. If it comes down

that with all the happiness

and gratefulness in my heart.

The ALPHA unit, clutching at JACOB and staring into his face is suspended in air for a long time in a shaft of light before the great spear as the EVA series circle in a halo around it.

Almost silence.

The EVA reaches the hand that holds JACOB into the sky and looks away.

BLACKOUT

A Ghastly crushing sound.

A rain of blood falls from the hand of the EVA along with the head of JACOB.

SHANE can barely comprehend what he has just done.

SHANE screams.

BLACKOUT

SOUNDTRACK: DINOSAUR JR. – FEEL THE PAIN

INT – BASE

JEFF
Angel destroyed! He did it.

VANCE

So it's over? Then now what?

AUTUMN

The eva series is resonating with

the Alpha unit.

WINTERS watches on the screen as the EVA series climbs and circles around the Alpha unit.

WINTERS

So that's it, then?

I'm sorry, Nadine. It was

supposed to be you. Or is

this what you wanted all along?

That's it.

TERMINAL DOGMA

ZERA looks up the shaft and smiles. ZERA floats to the back of the giant angel, who lowers itself obligingly, revealing an entry plug. The plug extends outward and opens. ZERA enters and the plug reinserts.

ZERA synchronizes herself up to 400% with Lilith. Her red blood, pale body and blue soul into the ANGEL. ZERA vanishes into the plug, which the ANGEL immediately ejects. The angel grows upward. The lights go out.

INT – BRIDGE

Lights out hit the bridge. Only AUTUMN on her laptop stays operational. Emergency lighting kicks in.

VANCE

What the hell was that?

JEFF

Autumn?

AUTUMN

It's the chalice! It's source was

uncoupled, but it's moving! Altitude

rising. Oh, my god! It's pattern blue?

JEFF

The chalice is an angel?

AUTUMN

No! It's a woman.

The body of Lilith floats up through the command center.

The hand of Lilith moves through AUTUMN, and the giant woman floats higher.

AUTUNM

Oh, My god! We made this!

We made it happen! What

Have we done?

VANCE

Oi! Autumn, it's out of

our hands.

AUTUMN

What is? What is this?

WINTERS

Man your station. Keep a

tight watch. He's in our

minds and he's in our

destiny. Our lives are in

Shane Eastmans' hands

now.

AUTUMN

We've got an energy reading.

Jeff?

JEFF.

All my meters are either going

crazy or they're going dead.

I don't know what the fuck

we're looking at.

WINTERS

Anti-AT field. The boundary

between all minds are going

to be destroyed.

VANCE

Sir?

WINTERS

It's not just the angels.

AT fields exist in all life

AUTUMN clutches at VANCEs' arm.

AUTUMN

ALPHA UNIT

SHANE

Amanda? Amanda! Where are you?

SHANE looks at the ground and sees the remains of the BETA unit. Its' a gory mess.

SHANE

No!

Shane keeps screaming no until he's not screaming words at all.

The ALPHA UNIT extends its hands and cleches its' fists. The heads of the EVA SERIES are crushed. As if they did not care, the EVAs' fire their lances into the hands and feet of the ALPHA unit, crucifying it. The EVAs rise into the sky and form a Sephiroth which ignites into the sky.

COMMAND CENTER

JEFF

The energy is cumulating.

It's going to reach critical.

AUTUMN

Sir?

WINTERS

Hit the deck.

The bridge crew take cover.

ON THE GROUND

The SARGENT and the FIELD COMMANDER look into the sky as the Sephiroth cross rises.

SARGENT

What does it mean sir?

FILED COMMANDER

It means we failed.

SEARGENT

Sir?

FIELD COMMANDER

Say your prayers.

The Sephiroth explodes. Seen from space, the explosion bursts over Washington state, over to Canada and out to the Pacific. The explosion takes on the appearance of an eye.

From the crater of the explosion, Lilith rises, her eyes empty sockets.

The EVA is held in air for a long time in a shaft of light before the great spear as the EVA series circle in a halo around it.

ALPHA UNIT

SHANE takes SONYAs' cross into his hands, seeing it stained with blood. He puts his head in his hands.

SHANE

Dammit. Dammit. Dammit. Dammit.

Dammit. Dammit. Dammit. Dammit.

ZERA (V.O.)

It's time, Shane.

In terror, SHANE glances up and watches as the heads of the EVA SERIES regrow and many heads of ZERA replace them emerging from one grotesque outcropping.

SHANE

Zera?

LILITH blinks and ZERAs' red eyes come to life.

SHANE screams. The Alpha unit screams, and its' chest plate opens revealing the angelic red core before which the lance of longinus hovers, ominously.

SHANE
No! No! No! No! No!

SHANE struggles with the controls, desperately trying to get the alpha unit to respond.

JACOB (V.O.)

Shane?

SHANE looks up, there is JACOB siting above him in the plug. JACOB clambers down and sits on SHANEs' lap. SHANE covers his eyes,

SHANE

No. No. You're not here.

It's not true. Stop. Stop.

JACOB (Sighs)

Never meet your heroes.

SHANE

I killed you, you're gone.

JACOB removes the hands from over SHANEs' eyes.

JACOB

You're exactly what I knew

you were. From the first

moment I saw you, Shane.

The look in your eyes said

it all. You don't want to

be here.

SHANE

You don't know me. You

betrayed me. Then I had to

do it. I didn't want to do

it. It's not ending. I

can't face it. Just leave

me alone.

JACOB

Life goes on, Shane. It

might go on forever and

ever, amen. You're in a

unique position to reject

it as long as you live or

else you have to accept it

with all your heart.

SHANE

Jacob, why?

JACOB

I don't know, Shane. I don't

even care. But I'm not turning

away. Open it all up and let

it all out. What's left is

yours, and you, truly you will

remain. OK.

SHANE

I don't know.

JACOB

That's OK. It's why I'm here.

For you. I'll be waiting on

the other side. The best is

yet to come and it's all yours.

Give me a smile.

SHANE with trepidation looks over JACOBs' shoulder and into the eyes of LILITH.

SHANE

I can't blame you. OK.

SHANE closes his eyes and the lance pierces the core of the ALPHA unit. The ALPHA unit and the lance combine and becomes the tree of life. LILITH raises her hands and the Tree of life ascends to the sky. JACOB dissolves away.

LILITH

Through the valley of death the

river of life flows. One shapes

the other, as it has been for all

time. Now make it something new.

Everlasting or oblivion it is

yours. Show us our future.

SHANE closes his eyes and the scene dissolves.

EXT - ALLEY - NIGHT - RAIN.

SHANE awakens in a barrel. The rain pelts outside as he nestles himself into the back of the drum, trying to stay warm.

SHANE (V.O.)

Right after my teacher died.

Just before I came here.

When I was rightfully nobody.

SHANE forces his eyes to close. He plays a song through his DAT and sleeps through the downpour.

SOUNDTRACK (faintly): Smashmouth – Walking on the sun

MORNING.

SHANE awakens, his walkaman playing to see the rain coming down so he leaves the flooding barrel.

EXT – PARK – DAY

The Rain has stopped. Damp Sand castle. Three children, a boy and two girls play in the background. A swing keeps rhythm.

SHANE enters and sees the playing, happy children. SHANE turns off his music and kicks down the sand castle. The children are shocked by SHANEs' actions.

SHANE

The fuck are you looking at?

The children run away. SHANE starts to move on, then returns to rebuild the sandcastle as best he can remember it. He gives up and tries to build his own version of the sandcastle. He goes until nightfall. The swing slowly stops keeping rhythm.

SHANE looks at the sand castle. It is a pyramid with obelisks surrounding and even extruding from the central pyramid. SHANE kicks down the sandcastle, just as he had at first. He kneels and weeps at what he had done and that he could not reproduce the purity of the vision which the children had made.

SOUNDTRACK: POE – ANGRY JOHNNY

AMANDA (V.O.)

You're not even worth the misery!

INT – SONYAS' KITCHEN – EVENING

The table is overturned. It is as it was when AMANDA had thrown it before.

The radio in the kitchen is playing.

SHANE

We have to make it work out.

SONYA (V.O.)

We can't. You push everyone away.

INT – SHANES' ROOM – EVENING

SONYA is on the bed, bearing her scar to SHANE. SHANE looks away.

SHANE

This isn't right. This isn't the

way you want it. Not the way you

would have me.

ZERA (V.O.)

You have no right to declare my

desires.

INT – ZERAS' APARTMENT – EVENING

SHANE

You don't know what I want! You

won't even listen to my desires!

You keep yourself distant to keep

yourself from harm.

INT – SONYAS' KITCHEN

AMANDA moves up to SHANE

AMANDA

You've been doing the exact same!

I can't be expected to understand

anything if you don't tell me!

SHANE

And what about you? You think you

can be ambiguous with me and I am

to blame for not reciprocating?

INT – SHANES' ROOM

SONYA has risen and grabs SHANE by the collar.

SONYA

How am I being ambiguous? What more

do you want from me? My home, my

lead, even my very self and you won't

let me in?

SHANE

You don't know what you're doing! You

just want something else, something

that's gone. Something I can't give

you! No matter what, I'm not enough.

INT – ZERAS' APARTMENT - EVENING

ZERA

That's why you need to go.

SHANE

I don't want to! I know I need something.

I know I need someone. So what if I need

you for now? Just stay with me until I

know.

INT – SONYAS' KITCHEN

AMANDA

Why should I be your shoulder to cry on?

Don't you think I have my own problems?

My own needs? My own fears? You want me

as just a crutch until you find something

else?

SHANE

So what? Don't you do the same? Do you

really want to be with me?

FLASH of AMANDA and SHANE having sex.

INT – SHANES' Bedroom

SONYA

You can't just use people and discard them

when you feel comfortable. Not without

knowing that you are causing pain.

SHANE

No. You can't put how I live on me. If you

want to be this way, then how can I be

to blame? You're not even meeting me

halfway.

ZERAS' APARTMENT

ZERA

I'm not meeting anyone halfway. I go

where my heart commands. What do you

and I must be true.

The image of all three girls appear.

SOUNDTRACK: Oncoming train. The train passes.

INT – TRAIN – EVENING.

SHANE (CTD)

You deceive me with your smiles

at my victories. I did everything to

pleasures you think you need and I

keep trying to keep up. The second I

ZERA

SHANE

AMANDA grabs SHANE and pins him to a chair in the train.

AMANDA

Because you were born. Because

this is the way things are.

work through the pain of

everything we do. We can't be

alone. We can't run away. We

Negative image of SHANE overturning AMANDAS' body in the hospital.

FLASH of AMANDA and SHANE having sex once more.

SHANE

AMANDA

Take what you want and go. That's

of the shape of me and then left to

image in your eyes or hide for your body.

AMANDA straddles SHANE and forces her bust into his face.

AUTUMN

What plan?

A Ghost of ZERA descends to the deck and stands before WINTERS.

WINTERS

I know it's been too long.

I'll never have what I wanted

with you. But it's such a relief

to see you again.

The ghost of ZERA has turned into NADINE. WINTERS reaches out his hand to her, and as soon as they touch NADINE vanishes and WINTERS bursts into LCL. JEFF scrambles under his desk, screaming. The hand of the ghost of ZERA hushes his mouth, and transforms into the hand of SONYA. JEFF is delighted to see her again and she kisses him. He bursts into LCL. VANCE is in a panic, trying to get out the door of the base, but a crowd of ZERA ghosts close in on him and he bursts as well. AUTUMN in barely registering shock, stares at her computer screen, watching the world come to an end.

AUTUMN

What have I done? If only

The hands of ZERA wrap around her and transform to the hands of RACHEL and her hands type "I need you." on the keyboard. AUTUMN places her hand on RACHELs' head, and smells RACHELs' hair.

INT – TERMINAL DOGMA

The spirit of EARL sits in the puddle of his own splattered remains.

EARL

This is the day I was going to

see you again.

NADINE stands before EARL. The ghosts of ZERA, the child, ZERA and Lilith who is piloting the very end of the world stand around him.

NADINE

Shane needed you and you needed

him, but you walked away.

EARL

You never knew what a monster

I was, Nadine.

NADINE

I knew all along. It's part of

what I liked about you. But we

both needed our son and I wanted

him to have parents.

EARL

I only hurt people. It was better

if he never got close to me. It

would save him some pain.

CHILD ZERA

You ran away from him.

ZERA

You thought he would hurt you

more than you hurt him.

EARL

It had to be done.

LILITH

Can you face him now?

NADINE

The same choice you've had

all along, and even now you

refuse.

NADINE puts her hand on EARLs forehead and presses him into the pool of blood that converts into LCL.

EARL

So this is the price I

finally pay? You were always

right, Nadine. I'm so sorry,

Shane.

NADINE pushes the last of EARL into the blood and he vanishes. ZERA takes up the broken frame of EARLs' glasses and looks up as though she can see SHANE fulfilling his destinly.

SPACE

The tree of life descends to the forehead of LILITH. The EVA series take their lances and kill themselves with it by piercing their cores. They cry in agony and ecstasy at being penetrated and released.

A drop of water sideways.

With the last of the EVA series dead, the anti-AT field spreads across the world. Cross flares ignite over the surface of the earth and even over the oceans. All of life is liquefied into LCL as the EVA frees them from their bodily form and from each one emerges a sprit like a tiny spark that floats into the heavens.

INT - DARK ROOM

The SEELE monoliths disappear one by one. KIHL watches, elated.

KIHL

The year at the spring.

And the day is at the morn.

Morning at seven.

Hillside's dew pearled.

Lark is on the wing;

and the snail is on the thorn

God's in his heaven.

All's right with the world.

KIHL melts away and his spirit is released. His cybernetic body is left a mechanical shell doused in LCL.

All the souls of the world swell and rise and swirl into a tempest around the black moon where they are absorbed. It's the black hole sun video.

A third eye, in the form of a vulva opens upon Liliths' forehead. The tree of life pierces the eye and enters Lilith.

ALPHA UNIT

SHANE looks out to see all the souls of the world swimming and drifting in the form of the ghost of ZERA.

SHANE

No. You come to me for death

and then demand from me new life?

I can't do it. I can't.

Ghost of ZERA surround him. He shuts his eyes and when he opens them every ghost his head.

SHANE

No!

All the ghosts from everywhere rush into him.

CHAOS

SHANE can hear the voices of SONYA, AMANDA and ZERA rejecting him. Over and over they tell him he is worthless, that he cannot be their one. He hears them call him useless garbage. He is forced to endure the rejection of the world in the form of this barrage of scorn.

SHANE(V.O.)

I never asked to live. I was

always told to. I've always

just listened. I've always

just obeyed. I can't tell anyone

their life. I never wanted this

and I don't want it for anyone.

SHANE recollects in his head the sound of AMANDA having sex with him.

SHANE (V.O. CTD)

There is no level of pleasure

to fulfill this longing. Even

oblivion cannot undo the misery

we make.

ZERA

Is it too much, Shane?

SHANE

If I don't want to live this

life for myself, then I should die.

ZERA

But you listen to your heartbeat.

SHANE

Everyone who says they don't feel

Admit that Thanatos must win. It

ZERA

But you hold fate in your hand.

SHANE

TITLE

SILENCE.

SHANE screams and the images break down. Ordered and recognizable but shattered and indiscernible. The color palettes of the film, broken into familiar shapes as collapsing and rebuilding and deconstructing and reconstructing mosaics.

LILITH is reborn from herself. She emerges like a butterfly from a chrysalis, except of continental size. She is an angel.

The tree of life emerges on her brow, a crown, twisted into golden thorns, dripping with blood and covered with eyes.

At the top of the crown emerges Alpha unit with a single thorn of the tree of life wrapped around its legs, then protruding through its' chest. The ALPHA unit raises its arms and in response the surrounding EVA series, even miles away, present their Spears. The ALPHA unit takes hold of the spear in its chest and twists it, over and over. The Eva series pierce their own cores and twist their spears into them. The faces of Zera moan and cry in the blissful, but painful penetration, and the series dies.

With the EVA series gone, there are no more AT fields in the world to protect the creatures of earth.

A drop of water.

A wave of red spreads across the globe and giant cross flares explode into every sky, and the souls of all living things are swept to Liliths' black moon.

SHANE, eyes wide, is afloat in an ocean of blood in a blood rain.

A Montage, wrecked and shattered of all that SHANE has been through in the past few months races across the screen, along with the sounds and the sights that he has come to know, but all he can hear are ZERA, SONYA and AMANDA rejecting him over and over again.

AMANDA (whispered)
How do you live with yourself?

The world is being destroyed, covered with blood and falling apart. SHANEs eyes are forced to see it all. For a moment, SHANE blocks it out.

SONYA

You can go wherever want to go.

ZERA

You can be whatever you want

to be.

SONYA

But you have to face this first.

ZERA

SONYA

The world is a flowing and

swirling storm of emotions

SHANE wakes up. He looks around at an ordinary sunny day on the street. He looks next to him. LINDA is there. SHANE takes a moment to calm himself.

SHANE

OK. OK. Hey.

LINDA

Been here long?

LINDA

No. I saw you asleep.

I wasn't going to wake you.

SHANE

It's OK.

LINDAs' iphone rings. She answers.

LINDA

SHANE gets his bearings.

LINDA (CTD)

Well you should see me. Oh, there

you are. Look to your left. There

TOMMY is at the intersection. He sees LINDA. TOMMY hangs up and waves LINDA to come over. LINDA leaves without looking back and runs to TOMMYs' side. SHANE breathes a sigh of relief and puts on his headphones, pushing play on his DAT.

SOUNDTRACK: SUBLIME – BOSS D.J.

SHANE walks down the street in a town where nobody knows his name.

KEVIN and SONYA are making love in an apartment. SHANE can see them in the throes of their passion, but he can't take the image for long and so SHANE walks away. EARL and NADINE sit in a coffee shop, reading reports. SHANE walks past a university and inside WINTERS is teaching a class, while in the same school, RACHEL and JUDY are working on their latest breakthrough. ZERA cruises by on a long skateboard, smiling in a world that might be OK. SHANE boards a bus, showing that existing in this world is taking a lot out of him. The bus drives out of town.

LATER

AMANDA boards the bus and sits in the back near SHANE.

SHANE

Hey.

AMANDA

Good morning.

SHANE

Do I know you?

AMANDA

No. I'm Amanda.

SHANE

Where are you headed?

AMANDA

South. Seeing family. You?

SHANE

Getting outside. Hiking Mount Si.

AMANDA

Great view. You can see cows

for miles.

SHANE

You're not really seeing

AMANDA

each other.

AMANDA

AMANDA gets up to leave. SHANE stands.

AMANDA

AMANDA leaves the bus. SHANE hits himself in the head.

SHANE

The bus drives on to the base of Mt. Si. SHANE disembarks and puts on his headphones

Shane hikes into the mountains, SOS filming the beauty of nature on this hike into the mountains. Birds. Overlook. Nature. Calming shit. The song ends.

SHANE reaches the top of Mt. Si and climbs the haystack top of the mountain.

AMANDA

Shane!

SHANE looks down and the human race is on the mount and in the valley where there should be cows. AMANDA, ZERA and SONYA stand just below him on the mountain below the haystack.

SHANE

What do you want?

AMANDA

It doesn't have to be like this.

Is this really what you want?

SHANE

I'm no savior. The future is cold.

I can see it. It's haunting.

it's empty. Helium seas drying up on

iron stars teeming in a vast and

eternal darkness. This place is better

He falls fast against the wall of the mountain, headed to the bottom. Then he slows. He drifts. The world fades around him, in and out, slowly, soon he is adrift in a sea. He comes to full awareness, and he is being straddled by ZERA. They are both nude. ZERAs' hands are inside SHANEs' chest as though merged into one.

EXT – A breathable sea in space, the color of sunrise.

SOUNDTRACK – BLIND MELON: CHANGE

SHANE

Zera?

ZERA

You're free here, Shane. This

is the blood sea of angels and mankind.

An ocean where all hearts can connect.

The boundaries between you and others

are gone. The walls have fallen.
All are one.

SHANE

ZERA

want to be free from pain?

SHANE

Can you believe it? Here.

Now. I'm sick of the way it's

been. But I'm tired of failing

ZERA

EXT - THE SEA

The sea is now blue.

Both still nude, SHANE rests his head on ZERAs' lap and ZERA looks at him with a satisfied smile.

SHANE

I came to the end of myself so many

times. Always asking why I brought

myself there, and then asking what I

was meant to be in the moment, not even

realizing that I was starting all over

again. I really didn't know what I was

doing. How can have done so much not

even knowing myself?

JACOB appears, clothed.

JACOB

You needed others in your life.

SHANE is now standing and dressed, as is ZERA. They are standing and the world is alive below them.

SHANE

I needed to be needed.

ZERA

Is that why you chose to pilot?

SHANE
But I didn't need to. Just

being alive made me something

that others could accept. Just

the courage to face the day was

enough to make me worth knowing.

I've been a coward. I've been

a troublemaker. I've failed and

hurt others and been hurt by

others. But when I slip myself

back into that moment, I know

my longing is true.

SHANE

What I want now is for everyone to

have the chance. You come back

SHANE smiles, the song ends and SHANE drifts into the black abyss of the sea. NADINE appears behind him, and embraces him.

This was my lifes' work, Shane.

It is finished, but what I've

wanted from the moment you were

born is everything yet to come.

I want you to see how bright the

future can be.

EXT - PARK – DAY

NADINE and WINTERS speak as NADINE cradles baby SHANE.

WINTERS

Your plan is for the contact to

absorb you into the Alpha unit?

NADINE
That's right. Humanity must cling

to the earth to survive, but we

can build an ark to set sail into

the flood of the night. Then,

when all hope for life is lost, the

Eva will live on, perhaps it will

find a distant shore, and life beyond

will go on and on.

WINTERS

It will be a lonely voyage.

NADINE

Even so, we will until the end

of time declare our existence

and even if the candle is small,

even if only one can carry it,

It will never be extinguished.

For now though, as long as the

sun and moon and earth exist

everything will be alright.

SOUNDTRACK – Hum: Stars

THE DEEP, DARK ABYSS

SHANE and NADINE.

SHANE

Is there anything else I can do?

NADINE faces SHANE and embraces his face.

NADINE

Just let me look at you. You

are such a handsome man.

NADINE embraces SHANE for a moment, and then, her hand trailing from his cheek, drifts off into the blackness once more and vanishes.

SHANE

Goodbye, Mom.

SHANE rushes upward. He races to the surface of the sea and splashes through it right when the guitar hits.

EXT - DAY - Mt. SI

SHANE is no longer drifting, he is falling fast, and he is about to hit the ground.

SHANE screams and with his fingers bared rips through reality. Red and black shreds through the mountain, the horizon, shooting blue sparks across the landscape.

The air, the ground, the sky, the mountain, everything is shredded and SHANE falls into a storm of light, shadows and colors.

EXT – SPACE

Lilith, the Eva series, the black moon, the Alpha unit all are in space between the earth and the moon.

The song kicks in.

The Alpha unit awakens. It screams and its wings unfurl to their maximum. The Alpha unit grasps the spear piercing its' chest and the crown of the tree of life spreads through Lilith, going through its' right eye, shredding the flesh of its' neck, over its' left shoulder, breast and flank, tearing everything apart and leaving only a tangled structure of the tree of life as it goes. Lilith's eyes weep white cream, her left arm is consumed, and from her hand, the tree of life spears the black moon, that sheds the blood of mankind into space, before exploding. A ring of blood drifts over the planet. The cross flares of earth float into the heavens, the false Lances burst and the EVA series fall back to earth.

The Alpha unit pulls upon the lance from its' chest, and the lance withdraws from the destroyed body of LILITH. Alpha unit uses so much energy that it's wings burn away, until only their singed vestiges remain. The spear pulls all the way through the EVA, and plucks the core from the chest of the alpha unit. With the last of its' strength, the Eva unit lifts the spear above its' head, and growing from the core, The Alpha unit folds its' hands before the spear and the core, and prays.

During the Bridge of the song the cores divide, glowing orange. The spear and cores together becomes an orange glowing sephiroth. Each core beams out memories and moments of SHANEs' trials and tribulations. His victories and his failures emerge from the Sephiroth with equal brilliance. When the sephiroth is complete, the song peaks the orange light flashes over blue and branches explode from the sephiroth which then grows into a tree of infinity, and it sets itself alight, burning white. as brightly as a sun. The Alpha unit closes its' eyes at long last.

What's left of the Alpha unit, along with the tree of infinity drifts off into space, a ghost of ZERA looks at the death mask of the cold EVA.

The earth and the moon take on swaths of blood stains.

Song ends.

Blackout.

EXT – BEACH – DUSK

SHANE comes to, washed up on the shore of the bloody ocean. He stands and looks around to get his bearings, then walks along the beach.

LATER

SHANE lies on the beach. Nearby are ten long pieces of driftwood and debris that have been erected as graves. SONYAs' cross is hammered into one of them. AMANDA, her eye patched and her arm bandaged walks toward the grave site. She pushes over one of the graves. SHANE is startled and she sees AMANDA walking toward him. SHANE freezes.

SHANE

Amanda, is that you?

AMANDA
Ja.

SHANE

I thought you were-

AMANDA

Yeah. Me too. But here we are.

So now what?

SHANE

Can I just stay here?

AMANDA

Well...For a while I guess.

SHANE

That's all I need.

Oh my God.

AMANDA sits next to SHANE.

AMANDA

So what happened?

SHANE

It was fucking crazy. I-

I brought the world to an

end.

AMANDA
