Spyro and Cynder went to the central palace. If there was a place where they could find their friends, it could be there. When they landed on a terrace, they got a good view of the great hall inside. Both dragons entered and saw that some moles and dragons were walking inside. But for Spyro and Cynder, all that mattered was the three dragons at the background. There they were, the Guardians. Volteer, Cyril and Terrador. Cynder and Spyro ran very fast to join them. And when the Guardians saw them, they were completely amazed.
"Spyro? Cynder?" Asked Terrador. He was then tackled by both dragons. Everyone looked surprised by this. Moles and dragons stopped what they were doing and looked at the scene right in front of them. Spyro and Cynder were hugging Terrador with enthusiasm
"For the ancestors!" Shouted Volteer. "You both are alive!"
"How did you manage to survive that?" Asked Cyril.
"It's a long story." Said Spyro. "But I'm really happy to see you all again. I'm glad you're all ok."
"Of course we're alright." Said Terrador while standing up. Spyro couldn't believe it, his mentors were alive. "We hoped you would come back, but some others thought that you didn't survive.
"What about Ignitus?" Asked Volteer, looking outside the window, maybe hoping to see Ignitus coming inside too. Spyro and Cynder drop their heads, clearly hurt by the memory of the sacrifice Ignitus did for them. It's because of this that the Guardians understood their silence.
"I'm so sorry, Spyro, Cynder." Said softly Terrador. "He was a great dragon."
"One of the most powerful that history has ever seen!" Completed Volteer.
"A very wise and gentle friend." Said Cyril, with sadness. "He was one of the greatest in the dragon's realm."
"He was the best..." Whispered Spyro. Cynder put her wing around his body, trying to give him comfort. The Guardians kept in silence for some time, honoring his fallen friend.
"Spyro?" Called a voice from the entrance of the big hall. When Spyro looked around, he saw Hunter, followed by some other cheetahs. Hunter was clearly surprised too, but he wasn't the one that called Spyro. Right above his head was Sparx, floating with an amazed face.
"Sparx!" Shouted Spyro, while he started to run to his little brother. Sparx didn't lose any second and went to meet Spyro too.
"You idiot! Do you know how worried I was about you?" Claimed Sparx while some little tears came out of his eyes.
"Are you crying, Sparx?"
"No, of course not. Some dust entered my eye. You know me, I'm tough!" Spyro laughed and grabbed Sparx, hugging him with emotion.
"I'm so glad to see you again, brother."
"Me too, it would be very boring being with all these boring dragons without you." Cynder approached and saw Sparx with kindness. "You!"
"Hi, Sparx." Said Cynder.
"So, you did take care of Spyro, huh?"
"Of course I did."
"Well, then I guess you're not as bad as I thought. I'll allow you to stay, for now."
Spyro and Cynder laughed with Sparx words. Spyro was happy to see that his little brother was alright. It would have been very difficult to him lose his little troublesome brother.
After this reunion, Hunter came closer. "It's good to see you're ok my friends."
"Thanks, Hunter." Said Spyro. "I'm glad to see that you and your people are ok too."
"Of course, and so are many creatures thanks to what you two did."
"That gives me an idea, Hunter." Said Terrador, getting close with the other Guardians. "Spyro, you did it. Without your strength, the world would have ended. And Cynder, you clearly showed everyone the kind and generous dragoness you are. You both are an inspiration to everyone." Spyro and Cynder were getting a little shy with all those words. Spyro didn't feel that way, but he wouldn't contradict Terrador.
"Thank you, Terrador." Said Cynder shyly.
"It's thanks to everyone's efforts." Said Spyro. With that, Terrador laughed a little.
"Even if it's that way, you two are the ones that defeated Malefor." Said Terrador with confidence. "So, here's what I would like you to do..."
Spyro was walking nervously inside a room, with Sparx and Cynder looking at him. It was nighttime, but the sound of eager voices and celebration came from outside.
"A speech?" Said Spyro. "How can Terrador expect me to give a speech? I've never done something like that before!"
"Hey bro, you have to chill." Said Sparx, flying in front of Spyro's face. "You're lucky. If it was me, I would say a lot about the great things that I did during our adventures."
"Like hiding and complain?" Joked Cynder.
"Hey! I did a lot of cool and amazing things."
"I think you're the lucky one, Cynder." Said Spyro. "You don't have to do it, but the Guardians didn't give me a choice." Spyro was getting very anxious, and Cynder could notice that. Even when he didn't want to worry her, he wasn't doing a good job.
Cynder came close to him and looked right into his eyes. Spyro felt that this was Cynder's way to calm him down every time he needed it. "You're the hero of this world. This is just a little speech; it doesn't matter if they like it or not. What does matters is what you did to save us."
"But I don't even remember how I did it."
"But I do." Cynder was looking at him with a kindness out of this world. I don't deserve her. Spyro couldn't fail her, or the Guardians. He has to do his best to inspire the city. If this helped everyone to rebuild the city, then it was the least he could do.
The Guardians were at the edge of the terrace, and at the streets, flying and on top of the buildings were the dragons and the moles, ready to listen to Spyro. He was at the back, looking very nervous. Cynder touched his shoulder with her nose and gave him an encourage gaze. Spyro felt at that moment that he couldn't fail with her support. He was Spyro, the purple dragon that saved the world.
"Now, a few words from the hero that saved us all! Spyro!" Shouted Terrador. At that moment, the crowd started to scream and rejoice. Spyro walked slowly to the edge and saw the big number of creatures bellow of him. The Guardians noticed that he was very nervous, and Terrador bowed his head to him. "You can do it."
"Thanks, Terrador..." Spyro said, very nervous. When he stands in front of the crowd, they made a great silence. Spyro could hear even the beat of his heart. This is impossible! For a moment, Spyro didn't say anything, and some murmuring could be heard. He couldn't do it. He was frozen, and the Guardians began to worry.
"Spyro" Said Cynder. When Spyro looked into her kind eyes, all his fears faded away. She smiled at him and didn't say anything. There was no need. Finally, he was ready to speak.
"Not so long ago, I didn't know what being a dragon meant. I was raised by a family of dragonflies. How could I have ever imagined that someday I would fight against the dark master? All I knew when I was little was to eat and play with my brother, Sparx. But it was a great dragon that showed me my true destiny. A dragon that was like a father to me, and I would never forget. Ignitus sacrificed himself for me. At that time, I didn't know if I was worth of that sacrifice, but I had to be. That's why I didn't fear Malefor. Because I knew that I had Ignitus with me. Because I had my friends with me." At that moment, Spyro looked behind, and looked at Cynder with all his love. "Because I had the most important dragoness of my life by my side."
Cynder was amazed. She blushed and looked at Spyro with her big turquoise eyes. "I never gave up, because I wanted to see everyone again! Because I wanted to have a happy life with them! Yes, Malefor destroyed the city, but the buildings can get back up again! Malefor failed to defeat us and now it's our turn to stand up again!"
Spyro's last words resonated in the whole crowd. They started to scream and celebrate and scream with joy. I did it. Spyro thought.
"You did well, young dragon." Said Terrador. "I'm sure that Ignitus would be proud of you."
"... Thank you, Terrador." Spyro looked grateful to his mentor.
"Not bad, brother! I thought that you would speak more about me, but still, very good!" Sparx was flying around while saying all this. Spyro smiled at him but didn't say anything. Now, he was in front of Cynder. She was looking at him with so much pride and love. Spyro didn't need to say anything, they just put their heads together, closing their eyes, and staying there, in a lovely silence.
It was midnight, and at the top of a large building, Spyro and Cynder landed gracefully. It was full moon, and the city was now resting. Spyro took a big breath and saw the woods outside the walls. But Cynder wasn't looking at that. She was looking intensely at Spyro. He felt her and looked at her calm and beautiful eyes.
"Is it over?" Asked Cynder.
"No... No, it isn't over. It just started."
Both dragons stared at each other, reflecting all the love both have for each other. It's time. Spyro was about to tell Cynder all he felt. He wanted to say everything to her, how he needed to be by her side for the rest of his life. But it wasn't him that started to talk.
"Spyro, I have to tell you something." Said Cynder, with a very serious face. "You don't remember how you saved the world... but I do. I remember everything that happened at that moment. You started to use your powers and at that moment, I told you something. Something very important."
"What was it?"
Cynder came closer to Spyro. He could breathe her sweet scent and see the deepest parts of her eyes. "I said... that I love you."
A fire exploded inside Spyro's head. Memories came like a stream that wouldn't stop. It was true, Spyro used the power of all four elements to reconstruct the world and with a whisper, Cynder told him that she loved him. Spyro wasn't going to be the first to confess his feelings, it was the dragoness that he had in front of him.
"You did... you told me that. Now... now I remember."
"You do?"
Spyro touched her nose with his and stared at her eyes with all his love. "Yes..." He breathed. "Cynder... I love you too." Her expression was filled with joy and love. Spyro knew that everything was going to be okay, now that he had the love of his life by his side.
"I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Spyro. I want to be yours. You... you set me free."
"And you're all I need, Cynder. You're everything to me."
With the light of the full moon, Spyro and Cynder sealed their love with a kiss. A kiss that marked the start of a new future. A future with a new family, new adventures and new challenges. This was the beginning of Spyro's and Cynder's love story.
