My friends and I all arrived back at my dad's party. It was a surprise for everyone who were still there at first, but they all were delighted afterwards and welcomed them with a 'the more, the merrier' attitude, especially after the police and the fire department arrived to tell them how PJ, Debbie and I bravely managed to save my friends from Simon's burning cabin and prevent an awful massive forest fire. My friends backed us up and said it was all true, being the witnesses of the event they were. All the main invited guests that remained at the party were very pleased to hear about our heroics. Even Pete, who wasn't impressed with anything in the world except things that could make him more money, had to admit he was very proud of us… By that, I meant he was as proud of us as he could be, which even then didn't sound very praising. And there was another five minutes before the barbecue food was ready, so we were just in time for the food. But before I could go and eat and party and celebrate my dad's birthday with all my family and friends, there was something I needed to do first. I approached Roxanne.
"Before we go and have fun, Roxanne," I said to her, "there's something I have to say to you first."
"Okay, Max," she said. "What did you want to say?"
I was very nervous about doing this, but I knew I had to do it. I took a very deep breath. "Roxanne, I just want to say I am so very sorry for my terrible behavior since that football night. When I saw you kissing Simon that night, I was completely shocked and I didn't know how to handle it. It made me think and feel very quickly that you were done with me forever and I wasn't good enough for you anymore and you didn't even want me as a friend. It made me feel that it was better for all of us if we stayed away from each other, but I had never been so wrong in my whole life.
"Even before you sent that tape to explain why you had to kiss Simon, I didn't really enjoy being away from you. And then when you did send me that tape, I felt that ignoring you was the worst mistake I made in my life, even more than when I lied to you about my dad and Powerline being in a band together before Powerline launched his very successful solo career last summer, and right now I can't get out of my head what would have happened if you didn't make it out of the cabin alive and unhurt and I lost you forever.
"I have no excuses for my behavior and I have nothing to try to justify it and I hope I can do something to earn your forgiveness and be your friend again."
Then I knelt to the ground and covered my eyes in my hands as I cried into them. I was glad I was able to give Roxanne my proper apology in person, but I still feared the worst and that she would never want to see me ever again in her whole life. If she didn't, I wouldn't blame her and I would have to respect her decision, no matter what it was.
Then I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked up to see it belonged to Roxanne and I was very surprised to see that she was smiling warmly at me. Then she knelt next to me and took my hands in hers. I was still confused, but this was going better than I thought it would.
"Oh, Max. You have already earned my forgiveness. You explained to me why you were behaved the way you did without trying to justify it or make excuses for it, you've given me concrete proof that you're truly sorry for what you did, you apologized for it and you saved my life from a burning cabin, so you're still my boyfriend and I forgive you for everything you did." Then her eyes started to release her own tears. "And I'm so sorry for letting Simon force me to kiss him and upset you like that in the first place and I only hope you can forgive me for it." Then she put her head in her hands as she cried her eyes out. I put my hand on her shoulder and she looked at me as I smiled at her while I was still crying.
"Roxanne, I already forgave you when you sent me that tape for me to listen," I said.
"Really?"
"Really."
Then we hugged as we continued to cry. I was so glad that I had Roxanne back and she was happy to have me back.
"Can I just say how awesome you were when you finally stood up to Simon, Roxanne?" I said.
Roxanne smiled. "Thanks, Max. It finally felt good to do it in front of him. I've wanted to do it, but I couldn't because of my dad. But when he was about to frame you for something that was his fault and not yours, that was my breaking point. I just couldn't take any more from him and I couldn't let him have you take the blame for his bad deeds and have you thrown in jail."
"Well, thanks for everything you did for me back there," I said.
"And thanks for everything you did to save my life back there, Max."
"Guys."
Roxanne and I turned to see PJ running to us. He was carrying two party plates full of barbecue food. Each of these plates contained a cheese and bacon burger, a sausage, a few ribs, a chicken drumstick, a steak and some fries.
"I managed to get you guys these," Peej said, "because we're running out of food very quickly."
"From both your parents, Peej?" I asked, as I took both plates and gave one to Roxanne.
"They're from my dad's, actually. My mom has already finished cooking all her barbecue food."
"Talk about success," I said. "Thanks, Peej."
"Yeah, thank you, PJ," Roxanne said.
"No problem. See you back at the party, you guys." Then Peej turned around and walked back to the party.
Roxanne and I both enjoyed the food that Peej gave to me. There weren't many things I respected a lot about Peej's dad, but his barbecue food was one of them.
"Now, that we've eaten and forgiven each other, shall we go and party, Max?" Roxanne asked.
"Good idea," I replied.
And then we went to party with my family and our friends.
My friends and I continued to party all night and all day and the party was a massive success. There was enough food for everyone and all the food was a success for both Pete and Peg as there was no barbecue food left. Then it was time for my dad's birthday cake, which Peg baked on her own. We all sang happy birthday to him, then he clumsily blew the candles – he didn't blow them out; he just blew off the cake – and then we all had a slice of cake, which was very delicious. Then everyone partied in both RVs of Pete and Peg and danced to music, whether it was Powerline or Xavier Cugat the mambo king.
Soon, both Roxanne and I got very tired and wanted to go to bed so we went into a bed at Pete's RV as Peg's RV was full up of guests, including Peej and his girlfriend Lisa. Peg was delighted that her son had a lot of friends and Lisa as his girlfriend.
When Roxanne and I went to the last remaining bed in Pete's RV, I offered it all to her, but she insisted that I slept with her. So, I got in and slept with her and, as we slept, she wrapped her arms around me and I wrapped mine around hers. And we both slept very well.
Then the next day, my friends and I woke up. Ever since we made up, both Roxanne and I slept much better. Then after a delicious fried up breakfast from both RVs, we all had a fun day.
The first thing after breakfast, Peg took me, my dad, Roxanne, PJ, Bobby, Stacey, Debbie, Lisa and Chloe in her speedboat on Spoonerville Lake. While on the lake, wearing my orange swim shorts, I did wakeboarding and waterskiing. Joining me was Lisa in her black bikini, Chloe in her blue bikini, Bobby in his pink swim shorts, Stacey in her green bikini, Debbie in her red bikini and Peg wearing her pink bikini and when I did the water sports with Peg my dad drove the speedboat. Roxanne and PJ were the only ones who didn't do the water sports with us, but while they stayed in the boat, they were spotters and they were very good at it.
After that amazing boat trip, we all went for a fun walk in the forest before we had lunch in the RVs. After lunch, they took turns on riding some ATVs from both Pete and Peg. Roxanne didn't have a go herself, but she rode behind me and she enjoyed it. After that, some of my friends joined me to do some mountain biking, which was very fun.
Then the sun was setting and it was time for all of us to go home. So I said goodbye to Debbie and thanked her once again for helping me with the burning cabin last night. Then I went to thank Pete and Peg for their food, their RVs, their equipment and for making yesterday the very best birthday for my dad ever. Then I said goodbye to my friends and told them I would see them at school on Monday.
My dad drove me and Roxanne back to home. After he parked at our house, I decided to walk her back to her house.
"Thank you so much for everything, Max," Roxanne said to me when we arrived at her house. "For saving me from Simon's cabin, for letting me come to your dad's birthday party, for all the fun this weekend, for forgiving me and just for being back in my life again."
"You're very welcome, Roxanne," I said. "And thank you for spending the weekend with me, for forgiving me and for being back in my life too."
"You're very welcome, Max." Then she grabbed my cheeks and kissed me on my lips. "Well, see you at school tomorrow."
"Yeah, see you at school tomorrow," I said.
Then she went into her house and I headed back to mine. I knew that I achieved a lot at the weekend by saving my friends from Simon's burning cabin and prevented a forest fire, but I felt the best achievement I ever achieved was having Roxanne was back in my life. That made me very happy. I hadn't been this happy in a very long time, but now we had our amazing relationship back and it felt wonderful.
