War!.
Gerbera is one of those towns furthest from the center of Plumeria. It is not that it is unknown or little traveled, but its inhabitants liked to be a little more austere in comparison, although they are still like the rest of its inhabitants. Although believing that they kept a certain distance to avoid war was not far-fetched, after all, only Princess Perfuma was actively acting with the Rebellion. The inhabitants of Plumeria could be many things, but they not warriors. Not many in all of Etheria, in fact.
The small villages that make up the region are adorned by trees with reddish leaves and amethyst flowers, crystal-clear waters and leafy bushes that raise a scent similar to mint when the wind blows, the grass shines in the morning with dew and the land is fertile. so it allows its inhabitants to live off its crops. Tranquility, serenity; peace.
—"Come, this way!" —The children could enter the surrounding forests without fear, because the battles of She-ra and The Horde sometimes seemed so distant to them that they did not pose a problem.
—"Sanik, don't run so fast!" — A girl with blonde, almost white hair shouts to her friend with brown hair and lilac skin who was running at full speed.
—"Come on! I'm telling you, it's the biggest log I've ever seen, it will be a good base to play on." —
— "We've been here hundreds of times." — Claims another boy with freckles, curly hair and green eyes. — "How can it be that we haven't seen it?" —
— "Don't be a party pooper, Gony. Trust me." — Sanik says with confidence.
— "Palmira, do you believe him?" —
— "No, but as long as I didn't wash the looms I would do anything." —Says the girl with a smile.
They advance further, entering the forest without further talk. Gony didn't like it when they went beyond a crooked tree because it meant they were no longer in the borders of Gerbera, and although they were still in Plumeria, he had heard things from beyond that made him afraid.
A sound caught her attention. A pair of quick feet running. There was no one but them and he didn't care about it until he heard it a few more times and he swore he saw something out of the corner of her eye.
Making sure that his friends were not too far away, he separates to look for the origin of that sound. Maybe it was some animal from the forest's fauna and although perhaps it was because of the short time she saw it, it was something quite large, almost her size.
Trunks and trees. Nothing else. Surely it was just sounds of the forest and the paranoia of him playing with stories of monsters bigger than his house until something beyond catches his attention, something big on the ground. A deep dark hole.
Stupid! Adora scolded herself.
She though she should have seen it coming. Take her away from the town, attack quickly and capture the villagers. It was Catra's style. And to make things worse...
—"Ah, of course. They regenerate." —Swift Wind pronounced before the regeneration of the horde robot which went from being only two to being six. Adora was not willing to listen to Swift Wind's platitudes at that moment.
— "I ALREADY KNOW THEY REGENERATE!"—. She rise her sword and puts herself on guard to continue the fight.
— "Hey, Adora." —Looks like it was the day to irritate She-ra. From a distance she could see the black-robed figure of the feline with an annoying and presumptuous smile on her face. She moved her tail sideways carrying something in her tail. — "It took you a long time to arrive." —
— "Catra." — Adora knew she was going to be there, and yet, she still couldn't tolerate even a single mention of her. Something that was common in war councils.
— "I thought I had to kidnap another town! To get your attention. Oh, of course, you were at a party! You must have felt very special..." —
— "Shall we spare your speech? I'm already tired of your games, Catra. A lot of people got hurt when you activated that portal." — The feline snorts with contempt. — "I hope it was worth it, because I won't let you hurt my friends. Or anyone ever again." — Catra just laughs a little.
— "You were the one who left the villagers unprotected. You are very good at hurting your friends without my help." — Her movements with her tail increased. What does she have there? — "But you're still very bad at discovering my cheating." - Oh no. The electric currents under her feet made her fall to her knees as soon as they began to run through them. Her muscles were contracting painfully and she only saw red rays around her as Swift Wind also fell next to her. — "Pretty good, right? I got the idea from Shadow Weaver. Ugh, at least it served a purpose in the end. If only your friends could see you now." —
If they could see me now? Falling into a too obvious trap? Taking Catra's bait like a minnow in a stream? Doubled over and screaming in pain? She-ra was supposed to be the complete opposite of her weakness. She had the strength and the intelligence and was still so naive.
—"You know, Adora, your whole hero thing is getting old." — Why can't she just shut up? — At least I found a way to shut you up! "— A stone hits her right in the tiara that she always wore.
—"Hey! Stay away from She-ra!" — She recognized Flutterina's voice, then Bow's voice calling her.
— "Awww, your friends came to see you. Why don't we do a show for them?" — Catra snaps her fingers and the robots' visors turn red, staring at her, aiming.
Bow shoots a small arrow that hits one of the robots harmlessly and spins through the air, followed by Catra's gaze. The arrow falls activating one of the Horde cannons, recreated as a confetti launcher. The little pieces of paper are enough to disorient the robots.
—"Swift Wind!" —Adora extends her hand, trying to reach her equine companion. He brings his nose closer to her. A simple touch was enough to bathe them both in a golden light and the next thing they saw was She-ra riding her winged steed. The horse stomps on the ground, releasing a shock wave that makes the robots fall like dry leaves. Without hesitation. Adora thinks.
With her sword, she launches another golden wave towards the Force Captain, shattering the scaffolding where she stood. She hears a high-pitched scream and the sound of falling metal as a cloud of dust rises. She didn't dodge it, relief and… worry? They filled her mind. However, as the dust cleared she could see Catra's thin figure struggling to her feet. Anger flashed across her face, her hands balled into fists and a dagger she had picked up with… her tail?
How can her tail be that…?
She couldn't finish processing her thoughts as she saw how the feline ran into her at full speed with a look of anger. She and Swift Wind charge in as well. The steed clicked its hooves on the metal surface, honoring its name. Being at a certain distance she sees how Catra flexes her legs and jumps. The highest she's ever seen her do in her entire life, somersaults in the air and realizes that she had calculated her exact moment and was now heading towards her in a dive.
The world seemed to go slow and all she saw was Catra falling with her right leg extended ready to kick her and maybe knock her off of Swift Wind.
Adora quickly turns her sword into a shield. She feels Catra's weight fall on the shield but she unexpectedly uses it to propel herself forward again and it happened so suddenly that she could barely figure out what had happened.
She just watched as Catra twisted her body over her and then spun in the air, and with a movement of his hips and his tail, she managed to make a long cut over her left shoulder blade. And Catra falls to the ground so gracefully and seamlessly.
Adora brings her hand to her wound and as she suppresses a wince of pain, her hand is stained by the gushing blood. It hadn't been that superficial it seemed. Where did she learn that? A black and white blur passes in the corner of his eye and he sees Catra use her abilities to climb the scaffolding again, giving her a look of hatred before running away from her.
Like the coward that she is.
She pets Swift Wind a little and turns around looking for Bow. The cheers and applause of the town's inhabitants were immediate.
Counting the years had been lost to time, nothing but rotting flesh now clinging to those old bones that should have turned to dust centuries ago. Millennia even.
But Nagash's cruelty and stubbornness to stay dead had not only wiped out his homeland, but had also condemned hundreds of generations to eternal unlife, safeguarding the remains of what was once Nehekhara, the first great human civilization. of the Old World that had seen its years of glory blackened by necromancy, disease and desolation that the desert ended up burying.
But this was not his land. It was not Nehekhara.
(Assassin's Creed Origins Theme plays _ Sarah Schachner)
Born into a noble family of Lybaras, he experienced firsthand all the evil that The Great Necromancer unleashed over all Nehekhara. Since he was a child he was taught to fight and defend everything that Queen Khalida Neferher defended in life before being murdered by her cousin, Neferata. Khalida hated the vampire race created by Nagash, and Kafele Neffasom hated everything related to the arts of Nagash.
The Honorable, that's how they knew him. He succumbed and was resurrected to be a slave to Nagash's will, but it never came to pass. Dwelling in Lybaras, he fought intruders and abominations alongside Khalida's legions of archers, ever faithful to Settra, the Undying.
But now his majestic tomb was lost in a strange world, but far from feeling bewilderment, he feels anger. If this was another dark deed by Nehekhara's eternal enemy, the one who devastated his own country, he would not bow. They never bowed. And even less so when the asp goddess, Asaph, had manifested herself before them and not through the Queen of Lybaras.
Before the destruction of Nehekhara, Lybaras was known as a city of knowledge, full of scholars, scholars and engineers who worshiped Tahoth, the god of knowledge and learning, and its riches came from its magnificent academies, schools and artificers more than of violent raids or conquests. But now, according to the words of the asp goddess, weapons would soon be more useful to them. But knowledge is not something that is needlessly rejected.
—"I have never been one to execute prisoners without delay, but I like answers and it gives me great displeasure that you, scum, don't have any." He points with his curved sword at a bipedal reptile and another being with feline features and apparently female. The Tomb King, dressed in a torn sleeveless white robe and a royal calembe with blue and yellow stripes on his head representing his royalty, was already impatient with the reluctance of these abject beings to answer his questions. A small guard of four warriors who were nothing more than bone figures lacking any skin or organs surrounded them with spear and shield in hand. But these two didn't seem to pose a threat, not even useful.
— "We already told you. We don't know what you're talking about." —Says the reptile.
— "Yes. We don't even know what Nagash means." —
— "He is the one who has brought us here." — Speak solemnly. — "Leave Lybaras unprotected, retake Lahmia and try to conquer Nehekhara again. You are two of his abominations. He will never set foot in the Land of the King of Kings again." —
— "This isn't Nekemehara, it's the Crimson Waste, please!" — The feline begs
— "Yes, we didn't want to steal anything, they just sent us to explore. We won't tell anyone, just let us go." —
— "I never mentioned that you had stolen anything." —Replies Neffasom. One of the skeletons lifts the reptile's vest to find a small golden staff with a golden snake coiling around it. — "The Ceremonial Scepter of Asaph. Made as a humble representation of how the asp goddess acts through Khalida and you have dared to put her hands on it." —The look of terror in both of them was increasingly distorted into one of absolute horror, so much so that they were unrecognizable.
Before they could say anything, Kafele swings his sword in a slash that would last as long as a heart would beat, if he still had one. A pair of heads roll in the sand and their spectral blue eyes rest on their pyramid, thinking. Reflecting. Crimson Waste.
-"My Lord." — One of the members of his guard speaks with a slight echo. —"What should we do?" —What would Khalida do?
— "Honor Asaph's will. She has been clear about this. How long have we been in dark decay watching our halls fall apart? If the asp goddess has chosen someone else to serve as a tool for her will, we will wait until to appear before us. We have wasted centuries in this unlife, we can wait a little longer." —Kafele pronounces and he heads with firm steps back to the place of her mortuary rest.
She-ra had won once again. Elberon was safe, although it would have been nice if he had stayed to help clean up a bit, but it's She-ra. There are things that she must attend to. But she left first and they were captured. It didn't matter that she happened again it seemed.
—"Hey, Anid. Help me with this." — asked one of the inhabitants while he was trying to carry a large and somewhat heavy table.
— "Let's see, Joris." — Anid stands at one end and they both begin to carry her, a couple of running children collide with them, they apologize and continue playing. — "What a day, isn't it?" —
— "Yes, well, everything turned out well in the end so I wouldn't worry about it at the moment." — They both lower the table outside a house. — "But next time, at the first sign of trouble, we will evacuate. She-ra won't always be around to help us." —
— "Yes" — A deep voice surprises them. They both look up from the house it came from. The atmosphere suddenly becomes tense. — "She-ra won't always be close. Nor will the rebellion. They are always far away and always leaving you unprotected." — Spread a pair of wings to land softly in front of them. The black armor, metallic wings, and mask made seeing this being a little difficult, and even so, it managed to catch the attention of the inhabitants, who were beginning to gather around. — "Why run with them when you can defend yourself? You don't need them, you have the strength to stand up to The Horde. I bet you would be better than the incompetent members of The Rebellion." —
The speech was uncomfortable, that metallic echo was far from comforting no matter how hard it tries to sound understandable.
—"You're wrong. The Rebellion has kept the Horde out of it all these years, and now with She-Ra they have achieved more victories than ever. That makes me confident that everything will be okay." — Joris is the first to speak in the absence of response from the other inhabitants.
— "Yes, she alone defeated those robots, and Master Archer Bow took us out of where they had imprisoned us." —Anid supports it.
- "That's right." —The stranger speaks again. — "She did, but it would also be prudent to remember one important thing... what happened to the previous queen? As I have heard, she was there a while ago and out of nowhere she is no longer there. And as I could also see, she left them to fight one of the Horde robots and were able to capture them, which was sloppy. And his master archer friend Bow did a good job too but what if he hadn't been able to take them out? What would have happened?" —
Restless murmurs are heard among some people.
— "What happened to the queen was tragic. And… maybe it was careless to leave like that. But she always did it thinking about protecting us." — Joris was not going to agree with such an aberrant being.
— "Bow knew what they did with prisoners, he was prepared. They always are." — Replies Anid safely.
— "She-Ra is invincible!" —Screams a girl who was clinging to her mother's leg. At that the strange being slowly applauded.
— "Bravo, bravo little one. I admire your enthusiasm. But... tell me something. Where did the wound come from if she is invincible? After all, someone who is invincible cannot be hurt or rather, no one who is invincible can bleed because nothing can harm her. And also, how many villages were attacked by the Horde while she was here?" — Unsure glances are shared between neighbors. — "And who says that while she helps others, she can prevent from you being hurt again? After all she protects the world but she doesn't say that she only protects you." —
A couple of people nod at what was said.
— "A hero cares about everyone, but it does not mean that he can be everywhere. While The Horde can, after all, they have troops and vehicles to move and are in many places." — A couple of people unconsciously nod at that. — "There is only one She-ra and there are multiple villages. What will happen next time they attack a village and yours at the same time?... Will she save you or leave you aside to save others? Don't you think it's unfair?" —
A couple of angry gasps and now annoying murmurs could be heard, but not to rebuke or refute the stranger. And even if he had a point, Joris wasn't going to agree with him.
— "They have shown me a lot about this, and I can assure you one thing. She-ra is not a god, just a warrior. Master archer Bow is also just a man with a great mind. And so on with all the princesses... They may fall one day. And what will happen that day? Will you run away and wait again for someone else?" — The stranger opens its arms in an almost stately gesture. Joris already knew where this was going.
— "He said he was invincible, not invulnerable. You will notice that there is a difference. —
— "But… it's right." —How he wished that no one would say those words. —They're already gone, but what will we do if they come back?" —
— "They are in many places. Do we have anywhere to go?" —
— "What happens with the rest of the rebellion?" —
— "And the other princesses?" —
— "Where is the queen? What is she doing?" —
Panic was beginning to spread among some people. The stranger's voice broke the panic, silencing everyone.
— "You can choose. They have taught me the truth, a truth about this war. And that is that you do not have to depend on She-ra. You can choose to continually be the prey of The Horde... OR... Be the hunters." — Given that, several people were captivated by curiosity. — "The princesses defend their kingdoms and go out when they are sure that they do not need to stay in their places. The queen is only in her castle deciding where to attack and where not, but she does not go to battle. And they showed me how things always are. princesses and She-ra along with the master archer Bow who fight but never the soldiers of Bright Moon. —At that some people looked at each other in confusion and annoyance, and now the stranger had the nerve to approach the people. The worst thing is "They showed me a prisoner of The Horde in Bright Moon, and how do you think he is?... Chained paying for his crimes?... No. Paying penance in a cold dungeon?... No. Working to repair places that The Horde destroys?… Neither… This prisoner is simply confined in a garden, able to walk freely and enjoying the light of day or night, offering advice about The Horde…" — Those words generated looks of annoyance and disbelief. — "Is this justice?!" —
— "What?!" —
- "Is that true?!" —
- "It has to be a joke!" —
Patiently the stranger let everyone around scream in annoyance and anger to that information.
— "How can they call themselves a rebellion when their combatants are only 5 people? How can they guarantee to be their protectors when they are only few? How can they say that they fight for justice when they do not make one of those responsible for their pain pay?… I ask you again... What will you choose? Prey... Or hunter?" — He crouches down and stares at the girl he had spoken to before, who does not take her gaze away from the stranger's helmet.
But there was something Joris needed to know.
— "Who are they?" — The stranger directs his gaze toward him. — "You mentioned some people. Who are they?" — The stranger lets out a disturbing laugh into the air.
— "They are not people." — It was definitely not the answer he expected.
- "They who?" —
—Who are you talking about?" —
— "They took a girl to fight." — A man speaks with indignation.
— "She wanted to join." — Anid tries to justify.
— "What will happen when they need more?" — Support another person.
— "I don't want to live in fear." —
— "I've already lost too many to the Hordeans." —
- "What can we do?" —
— "Won't they be taking what he says seriously?" —Joris asks incredulously.
—Let's put it to the vote." —
Everyone was going to start deciding, although unsure, and with their emotions reflected perfectly on their faces. But before they could speak, the stranger spoke with a tone that detonated great faith.
(Hail the Nightmare — Bloodborne Soundtrack plays)
— "It's your decision if you want to come. But I'll give you the truth." —
All the people stopped and for some reason, it was as if the air was filled with a great weight, which then seemed to be real with each word the stranger began to speak.
— "There are beings greater than us. Beings who saw the birth of the first life and with powers beyond what princesses or She-ra could achieve. They taught me true power, a power that is not exclusive of birth but of everyone if you seek it. You can gain that power if you prove that you deserve it, just as I earned their gifts you can, and break that status quo that you have lived for many years. No more running away, no more depending on the princesses, no more fear or losing to The Horde, you can be your own defenders and crush The Horde yourselves." —
A pair of men clenched their hands with desire for retribution in their eyes. A mother held a pendant with strength and anger in her hands and a couple of young people were hypnotized by the stranger's words.
"—They will accept you if you decide to follow their ways, and in exchange they will give you not only the power you seek but also the opportunity to bring the justice you deserve. You can change the world not only for yourselves, but for your children and your children's offspring too. Everyone will be able to see the wonderful world they will build by changing this world stagnated by The Horde. They have many names but their power encompasses everything and they will be accepted." — Ears pricked up to hear more about "them" — "The great changer and master of destiny. The lord of battle and war. The prince of passion and pleasure. The father and grandfather of entropy. They are some of their titles but their names can only be heard by those who want to know" —
— "We don't want to know, thank you. Maybe you should retire." — Joris sentences and he tries to leave when he decides that this stranger is nothing more than someone crazy but at that moment two people pass by him. Dimas, his neighbor and oldest friend, positions himself on one side of the stranger. Then Horace the farmer; Luris, the florist; Anid too. - "What are you doing?" —
— "I... I don't want to live in fear anymore. I want a future, a life and if we have to do it ourselves, well... so be it." —Dimas says.
- "Yeah!" — someone shouts from the crowd.
— "Teach us to be strong!" —Said a young man who joined with a girl.
— "Give us the power to defend ourselves!" —Said an older man.
- "Yeah!" A couple of people shouted and joined the stranger.
— "Have you all lost your mind? Nothing good will come of this" — Joris tries to reason.
— "Yes. We must trust that the Rebellion can defeat the Horde." —Try to support someone else.
— "She-ra was wrong. Maybe next time will be worse." —A woman says as she approaches the stranger with doubt in her eyes.
— "Don't we all make mistakes?" —Joris says innocently.
— "Will you really justify it like that?" — Horace claims.
— "I say there is nothing to discuss. Let's do it. For Etheria!" —
—"For Etheria!" —
—"For Etheria!" —
—"For Etheria!" —
The stranger's wings opened and he enveloped those around him. The girl who previously defended She-ra now approached the stranger with devotion in her gaze as she was covered by her wings and he gave her a light rose on her face with her hand. There was nothing else to do.
